Flying Foxes Over Bridge

This is a photo I took a few weeks ago.

Two of my housemates and I went to a lookout near Gladesville Bridge so I could attempt to capture it during sunset. I had a feeling the sunset would be strong and would work well with the bridge.

We got there and there was too much cloud cover where the sun was so, other than some slight patches of colour off in the far distance, the sunset was quite restrained.

We stayed for roughly thirty to forty minutes and I was able to take a few photos such as this one.

I like that this section of the bridge feels suspended in air due to it lacking relational context. I also like that the traffic makes the bridge feel quieter than it is as there was more traffic than this photo suggests.

I also like how the flying foxes appear small, but unmissable. I think that their appearance draws attention well due to how they contrast against the design of the bridge and the vehicles.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-twenty-seventh Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Precious Moments“.

For me this is a precious moment as I don’t see many flying foxes where I live. It’s nice to see them in groups whilst moving through the air.

I also feel this is a precious moment as around this point I felt a desire to come back to the spot where I took this photo and try and capture the flying foxes again, but with different weather conditions to see how it would affect the scene.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week’s challenge is curated by Amy. Next week Leya is curating.

The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.
