Seatbelts: Road to the West

One listen.

I thought I’d be able to draw out more from the song which is why I chose to write about it, but I didn’t get as far as I’d hoped, which is fitting, so this is a brilliant piece of writing, or something.

Seatbelts’ (シートベルツ) “Road to the West” is from the fifth (or fourth, depending on what you count) of Cowboy Bebop‘s soundtracks, Cowboy Bebop Blue.

I hope you enjoy.

A gentle synth stirs as saxophone wafts and drifts. It seems to call out in conviction and loneliness. It is there and it follows the synth, and every time it stops it seems a little bit is chipped away.

What is it that disappears? Maybe it is realisation that goals will not be achieved; that hopes and dreams remain as such. Still, there is an attempt and maybe the attempt is enough. Maybe it is not. Maybe seeing desires and hopes and dreams fall away is what this signifies, and it carries with a sadness, but even so the sounds keep moving forward as they fade and the song ends.
