Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1418: More Rambling About Writing

So I’m meant to be working on some things, but instead I’m gonna do some writing. Then I’m gonna work on some things. Going to try and work out some thoughts now, though. Get that out of the way, then continue with other things.

You know; other things.

I think the day has been a warm one, and that is because it has been a warm one, and I think about the monumental task ahead, and there is a lot to do and maybe I can get it all done, but we’ll see. A lot of editing, a lot of cutting up and rearranging, a lot of getting things into the order in which they’re meant to be… if there even is an order in which they’re meant to be. A lot of moving words here and there and trying to work out what it is that I was trying to say, or if there was anything I was trying to say at all.

The art of writing is a great one and I keep treating it disrespectfully, though of course that is never the intention. The intention is always to write, and in all of that writing one sees what happens, and what changes, and all of those things. One sees where it points and how it guides, and I keep on doing a bit of the bad writing, but that’s okay. It could always be worse; I need to remember that. I need to remember that writing doesn’t need to be good, but perhaps there are times when one should aspire to try to do good writing. Perhaps.

You need to know when to and when not to, and sure, some people would argue that you should always try to be good, but shouldn’t you try to write? If you always try to do good writing, will you? Even if you don’t try to do good writing, but instead just try to write, does that not also count as improvement?

Some people seem to treat the act of creation as though it is competitive sport, and I don’t think that’s a good thing. I think there are times where it’s probably ideal to do so, but I don’t think it’s good to constantly do so. I think you need to be able to have a bit of fun with it, but you should try to be responsible. Being responsible is important… though not always, and it depends on the content too. A lot of it depends on multiple things.

I think that I’ve gotten across what I wanted to get across well enough, so you get the idea. I could probably keep on going on and start getting into the aesthetics of writing, but I’ve just remembered that a while ago I said I wanted to write more about marine environment stuff (or at least said I wanted to), so maybe I’ll write about that soon, but only after everything else I’m doing, unless I move things around.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:34:48

I wrote this yesterday and perhaps I should have shared it yesterday, but it’s here now and that’s fine by me. I think I could’ve struck something poignant here, but I didn’t quite.

Written at home.

About Stupidity Hole

I'm some guy that does stuff. Hoping to one day fill the internet with enough insane ramblings to impress a cannibal rat ship. I do more than I probably should. I have a page called MS Paint Masterpieces that you may be interested in checking out. I also co-run Culture Eater, an online zine for covering the arts among other things. We're on Patreon!
