This one was interesting as I went to the gig drunk and sobered up before The Mark of Cain started.
A former colleague of mine was having drinks a few days before she flew home for a few weeks and I drunk far too much.
It probably influenced my opinion of the support act I did manage to catch (there were two [I think]).
I don’t know their name, sadly as whilst I thought they were lacking in some areas (mostly stage presence), I did enjoy some of their stuff and they do have talent.
The Mark of Cain were good.
End of the review.
Okay…
The Mark of Cain were good.
Once again, they played a solid set.
Whilst they didn’t sound as tight as they usually do, they were firing on all cylinders.
They played a few more songs off Battlesick and The Unclaimed Prize than they usually do.
I’m not too sure as to how the rest of the audience felt about this, but I was pretty happy to hear them do something else.
To be honest, I would have been fine if they had played the same set they did the last time I saw them, but to hear them mix it up a little bit was better.
Oddly enough, the crowd seemed mostly reluctant to be energetic.
I think this comes down to the feeling of the Manning more than anything.
Regurgitator is the only band I’ve seen there that has the majority of their audience reacting energetically to their performance.
However, I haven’t been to a Regurgitator gig that hasn’t had an energetic crowd.
I think the Manning has a more restrained feel to it than other venues as I’ve been to a lot of good gigs there but the crowd will often seem unwilling to embrace it in an energetically enthusiastic manner.
I do like the place, but that’s how I think it feels.
Anyway, yeah.
The gig was good.
Hopefully the tour this gig was a part of leads to them writing new music to add to their repertoire.
