Here’s a picture I took when I went to the lookout point near Bondi Beach to get photos of the sunrise.
It was partially an accident.
I was sitting in front of the camera to use the remote to get a shot of some of the land (I’m probably remembering this incorrectly though and was probably trying to get a shot of myself).
Forgetting how zoomed in it was, this was the result.
I don’t take much interest in photographing myself beyond pulling a stupid face or having a ridiculous pose as I don’t consider myself an interesting subject.
With that being said, I do like this photo quite a lot.
I like how the light is sitting on my face and how I look oblivious to the shot as my focus appears to be on something far more serious and awe-inspiring (whilst I may have been aware, I do know that, based on the direction I was facing, I was looking at the sunrise at the time, which certainly was awe-inspiring).
I also like that it highlights how tired I am (there had been a number of nights where sleep had been short before getting up to get the sunrise photos) by highlighting the creases under my eyes.
I think that as the red and blue (and other, less prominent colours) aren’t clashing, they make the picture feel warm.
I don’t think this photos would have worked with a different background.
It adds a lot more light to the photo without making it overly bright and feels ambient.
Well, that’s what I think.
If it had been anyone else, I would still like the photo.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Cool photo, buddy! π
