Five-Hundred Word Challenge 305: Journey Beyond the Horizon

There is talk, there is yelling, there is something over the horizon which cannot be felt, seen, or heard as it is over the horizon, far beyond being close to those would would seek it out, always out of reach, for sometimes in some cases the goal is never in sight.

Perhaps they are chasing a feeling, continuously heading toward a line that is always far from where they are, trying to get beyond what they can see in order to discover the feeling that they may be chasing.

Really though, no one knows what they are looking for. Perhaps they themselves also do not know.

All that has been confirmed is that they are searching and they do not yield to the search.

They continue on, stopping for rest only briefly before resuming, for whilst there is plenty of time for continuing to try and cross the horizon, there can only be success if there is rest mixed into the journey.

Perhaps there is no reason as to why there is this seemingly-foolish determination to do what could be described as impossible. Perhaps it is never about the actual completion of the task, but the actual journey and the pain and joy that comes with it, building the experiences that can only be obtained in this manner and somehow passing them on before they pass on.

Perhaps there is no reason and they know that there is not reason and prefer to be nomadic as it is the life that they enjoy.

There are many reasons as to why these people would try to get beyond the horizon but none are known and they are not forthcoming about whether they know the reasons or do not know but continue to persist regardless.

Sometimes a journey has no end. It does not matter has to how many generations of people try to complete it, for it is a journey that is eternal.

Sometimes a journey will come to an end, whether as a gradual conclusion or an abrupt ending.

Sometimes there is no control over how the journey will end if it does indeed end.

Sometimes it seems to be the case that we are all trying to get over the horizon to try and see what is beyond it; something that is a foolish and yet noble endeavour, so long as we all realise that there is plenty along the way to see and experience, for the destination is not the only thing that is available.

Sometimes there is nothing to see, yet there is plenty to learn along the way.

Even in the banality of the repetition of modern life, there is still plenty that can be found and discovered regardless of how much we want there to be.

Ultimately there are plenty of journeys out there. Some overlap. Some do not.

That is the way that life is. It is full of joy and pain.

A mix is better when we try to journey beyond the horizon.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:27:63

Slow, but that’s fine.

I started this off as a fictional piece and then it morphed into something more directly related to life.

It could be much better.

Written at work.
