On the recent trip to Smiths Lake I once more had the opportunity to attempt astrophotography.

Of course I have the opportunity to do that in Sydney, which I’ve done before, but I digress.

Whilst taking these photos the many mosquitoes that were around decided they loved me very much and left me with plenty of parting gifts.

Overall it was enjoyable.

These are a vast improvement over my last attempt at Smiths Lake, but that’s to be expected considering I have a bit of a better idea of what I was doing this time around.

It also helped that the gear I had this time was better suited for the task.

The way that the stars seem to form a pattern is quite interesting.
I like how they span the whole area of the photo without engulfing the whole scene.

I think that scenes like this really make you appreciate how small you are, as well as appreciate nature.

I included the second photo due to the shooting star. I didn’t see it occur as I was pacing back and forth whilst the timer was running in an attempt to avoid the mosquitoes. I felt that it was unfortunate that I missed the shooting star, but I saw one a couple of nights prior so it wasn’t too bad.

I like the way there’s a contrast between the shooting star and the other space objects.

You have all these lights that are still, then a long, bright trail cutting through the darkness.
