Working Bee

Another bee. Maybe the same bee as in this photo. I cannot remember.
I feel as though the bee is hidden in a way here. It’s not, but it feels like it is. It also feels like a contrast against the flowers’ vibrancy, and I like that.

I hope you enjoy.

Pat Metheny: You Are

One listen for this one. I tried to sort of follow the sounds and keep what I was writing as something that came out easy and I think I succeeded there, but I wonder if I could’ve done better going in with a plan of sorts.

Path Metheny’s “You Are” is from From This Place.

I hope you enjoy.

Keys speak into space. They speak with simplicity, draw out and link to each other. Soon they add a bit more but the space is there. The space remains, even as they add more to what they are saying. It’s speaking and breathing, maybe.

Percussion and bass reveal themselves briefly, though maybe the bass had been there for a bit and is coming more forward. Soon guitar also joins the conversation and it’s not long before the keys start almost rolling along. Everything else fills out more and the hum of strings floats around in the background seemingly as a constant.

Instruments build and fill but they maintain that space. They fill it in but they don’t suffocate; they allow for that breathing. There’s something akin to a voice here and there, accentuating, filling out and everything keeps on flowing as a slow rush, and it keeps on building and various instruments know when to add and pull back and move to something else, and they ride the melody as a build and it keeps growing and expanding, and in a way it is comforting as it seems to keep on going.

Everything releases but pulling back suddenly, and there is a lingering lowness. Soft takes over as all sink back into silence, and soon it’s just the keys. They speak into space; they speak into the quiet. They draw out and link to each other and they linger, then stop as the song ends.

Direction Up

I’m not sure why this silver gull did this particular pose. Then again, I may be remembering this incorrectly and it wasn’t so much a stop as it was a brief hold before completing the motion.

I hope you enjoy.

Akusmi: Yurikamome

One listen and I went in just trying to describe the song, which I think I did well in parts and no so well in others. There’s a lot that you could pull from this song and I went for probably the most straightforward thing and that’s fine.

After writing about all the songs on this album I think it’s pleasant. It also is incredibly reliant on some techniques as though it needed a crutch. I want to check out Akusmi again, though I’m concerned it will be more of the same. Enjoyable stuff, though also quite visible in shortcomings.

Akusmi’s “Yurikamome” is from Fleeting Future.

I hope you enjoy.

Pulsing brightness pulsing away. Simple, light but not airy. Seems to extend into itself, but only slightly. Grows louder and something else is revealed slightly underneath. Becomes muted and other keys come forward.

Percussion is there, gentle and quiet, and everything else in the background seems to flow in a rush, but it’s not just background; it’s all around.

A beam of bass and woodwind form on through, filling everything without overtaking, then disappear. It comes back but as a lingering thinness, despite its thickness. Then it disappears again, and returns once more. It does not stop. Bass draws long and saxophone takes a precise movement. A voice is heard somewhere and the percussion becomes more striking, livelier and it grows in volume, as does bass.

Woodwind wails and underscores and there is a gentle rush of sound. It is moving; it is growing into something. It does not weave but it aligns and layers upon itself, and it remains static in parts and changing in others. Sounds start disappearing and the sound shrinks, but some come back as others fade, and what remains finds a final note to close on as the song ends.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 1295: A Few Minutes to Spare

So I’ve got a few minutes to spare and I’ll have a few more in a few, but right now I have a few that are available so I thought I’d just throw myself into this. Much better than sitting here and preparing, I think; at least, right now it is, or something.

Now I don’t know where to go from here but there’s a nice tune wafting from my speakers.

Anyway, it seems like I do better when I just throw myself into these things and perhaps I should be doing that more often. Hesitation and procrastination is bad, of course, so I need to be trying to do that less. Need to think less about doing these when I’m sitting down to do these and just go for it instead. Really get into it all and write away and get it all done and all that other stuff.

So now that I’ve said that, I guess it is time to reveal my grand plan for today, of which there is none, but we’ll see what comes forward. I’m not holding my breath – this could be the last thing I do all day – but I’m going to try. I want to try and I need to try as I need to push myself far more than I have this year.

It has been a pretty tough year but I don’t want to keep getting bogged down. Right now I’m racing against my finances and hopefully I can get ahead of them. It’s not looking good, but there’s always a chance. There’s always hope and I hope I can get ahead of them sooner rather than later. Means getting a new job so I need to keep trying there and I need people to stop telling me to keep on going because something will come my way. It’s not helpful coming from people who are quite comfortable in their jobs.

So now that I’ve said that I think I can move toward whatever else awaits me at the end of the road that is Monday; specifically, today’s Monday. Maybe there will be plenty of things and maybe there will be nothing. Maybe there will be a balance between the two. I’d much rather balance, or I’d much rather not have balance. I am yet to decide at this stage, but I’m sure I’ll decide before I need to decide, though maybe it will be after I decide.

The sun is out and it’s nice. It is pleasant to see the sun. It is spring at the moment and it will get warmer. It quite likely will get far too warm, but right now where the temperature sits is nice and seeing the sun is nice too. It helps illuminate the rooms and… yeah.

So anyway, I think that with that all out of the way it is time to say a few more things before I go on and say less things. However, I’ve got nothing left at this moment.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:13:00

There’s some stuff here that would work better expanded upon and I don’t know why I keep not doing so.

Written at home.

Walking Silk

Another photo taken at the same time as these four photos.
This one is a bit earlier in the set, when I was trying to get a shot of my partner walking toward where the camera was. I didn’t consider the angle of the walk relative to where I was enough, but I like the result anyway. There’s a sense of space and isolation that comes across, I think.

This is my submission into the two hundred-and-sixty-fifth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge. The theme for this one is “Black and White or Monochrome“.

For this challenge I thought about getting a photo that would work well processed with really strong contrast. Then I forgot to take something to work with, hence why I’m sharing this one.

The host of the Lens-Artists challenges cycles weekly between the following people:

Week 1 – Tina

Week 2 – Patti

Week 3 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 4 – Amy

Week 5 – John Steiner

Week 6 – Sofia Alves

Week 7 – Anne Sandler

Week 8 – Donna

Week 9 – Guest host

Anne is curating this one. The next is curated by Donna.

I recommend participating in the challenges as they provide a fun way to interpret theme. If not participating, then at least you should still check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Silver Gull Landing

A rather lucky photo, albeit one with what I feel is too much noise.

I like how this sort of feels odd in a way. The gull feels like it’s more angular than usual, and as though its proportions are off.

I hope you enjoy.

Akusmi: Concrescence

More just trying to describe the song and I think here I’ve done a pretty solid job of doing so. At the same time I don’t think this gives a good idea of the song, but that’s not saying much.

Akusmi’s “Concrescence” is from Fleeting Future.

I hope you enjoy.

Percussion hopping and bouncing with a hollowness and soon it is joined by more percussion. These two rhythms are one rhythm and they move alongside each other with some ease. A third percussive set comes in and alters the flow and melody, and then soon a fourth weaves its way in, and a fifth, and soon something that sounds like brass also comes in and it all builds toward some sort of joyous expansion.

More brass and perhaps some bass slide in then away and when that disappears there seemingly is less going on. What plays a slight flick over the percussion, and soon bass comes in, throbbing and seemingly celebration begins to come forward. It’s there in all the vibrancy but it seemingly is not willing to really break forward, and that’s fine because this is almost like memories of it, flickering by.

Bits of sound here and there slide through the gathering, then come forward. They draw long and smooth and seem to indicate a direction of gliding, and all starts growing quiet not long after. It all fades away, or at least most of it, and it grows quiet and the song ends.

PVC Pipes

This was taken whilst I was recently helping with something.
I don’t think there’s anything particularly good about this photo, but I like it.
Feels like a gathering of sorts.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week. Participating is pretty straightforward and something I recommend. If you do, then include the tag “monochrome-madness” in your post. If not participating, then at the least check out Leanne’s photography as well as what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Akusmi: Cogito

I think this could’ve been better had I not allowed myself to be distracted by the use of an overused melodic pattern. Whilst the song is still covered I didn’t want to wander into criticism again.

Akusmi’s “Cogito” is from Fleeting Future.

I hope you enjoy.

A slight swing in the step, almost like a start and stop of a sweeping motion. Drawn out sweep (albeit short), then a few quick brushes of sorts. As it happens more instruments join in. It’s more layering, forming the melody. Soon instruments come in and slightly add more than an expansion to the sounds.

It grows richer and expands and then bass comes in, as does the gentle percussion and it’s as though two different melodies are harmonising with each other. It’s not quite, but it’s like.

A brief pause of sorts and now a familiar melodic line encroaches. It keeps this feeling more fun as everything seems to build whilst some of everything remains steady and as is. It’s a sort of rumbling in preparation for a big release of celebration, but there’s something that’s not quite. It’s slick and cool but the familiar weighs it down. All the fluttering and motion and movement is there but it’s almost lessened.

The release doesn’t happen; rather everything seems to become diminished in a sense and the energy is gone, and it stops and the song ends.
