A Poem About Attempting to Write a Poem

I really need to work on poetry.
Well, I don’t, but despite my lack of being able to create something decent, I enjoy writing poems.

Anyway, here’s a poem about trying to write a poem.
Nothing fancy. It’s lacking and rough but it gets the idea across.

I hope you enjoy.

It is easy to sit and stare at the screen
And think that the words will spill forth
To know what it is that you want to write
And be seated, prepared to let text flow

When moving toward the keys
Or perhaps whilst wielding an instrument
The motion stops almost in full
As the words refuse to reveal themselves

Whilst clear when thought of
They do not seem able to translate
From thoughts to a format considered visible
For their traversal is stalled

It is easy to sit and stare at the screen
To know what it is that you want to write
And have the words unable to come forth
And not write anything at all

Yellow Clouds

I was stuffing around a fair bit when I was processing this image. Don’t know why I stated the obvious, but there you go.

I kept this as it is as, to me, it seems almost like this looks like sunlight shining into water. It doesn’t look completely like clouds in the sky.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 743: And Then Some

Surely when in jest, gesticulating gestures go good, or something to similar effect. I think. Perhaps I don’t think. Perhaps the idea of thinking is something that we trick ourselves into believing when all we’re doing is running on instinct, or something to similar effect. I think.

However, now that that has been clarified, is it certainly the day of mornings when the evening collapses into itself and reveals a backdrop for which could never be reached but only seen and felt; not literally, but still felt? Perhaps there is no one to ask but ones own self and to your self you must be real. If you are not real then you are not real. In that situation it is difficult to reel in the unwieldiness of life and life is the thing that must be reigned and controlled so as to make sure that the thing does or does not happen, whatever that thing may be.

Perhaps it is time to reconvene with the rocks and engage in a conversation with them about the passage of time and see what it is that they have to say. I shall see the words as they are spouted over many a millennia, but hope that I do not get so old and impatient that I find other things to do. That would indeed be a bit of an issue and somehow the hopelessness of it all, alongside the inevitability of change makes me think that perhaps my time best be spent among the fish and trying to work out what it is that they don’t want to do and see if they can form some sort of universal collective that allows some sort of indisputable harmony within the confines of reality, and then some. That might be a good idea, but I’ve got things that I need to do.

Will they get done? Will they not get done? Will there be any questions that see themselves answered? I do not know. Of course, there will be some questions, but I’m not questioning those questions and I am not questioning their ability to see themselves find themselves as questions that may or may not be answered. I’m not questioning anything at all and I’m questioning why that is the case. Perhaps that is what the rocks will be able to tell me, but I think I’d rather approach the birds or the trees. There is a good chance that they may provide the answers that I seek.

Maybe instead of all of that I’ll just approach someone who can make sense of the chatter and reorganise it so that it forms the image of which I cannot draw and thus I will draw it into my being and see some sort of revelation that will not reveal much; just enough to hint at the capacity to be curious and go on the trip that involves the exploring further so as to be able to learn some more stuff, and then some.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:12:10

It’s more words strung together in some sort of incoherent fashion… I think.
This was about creating imagery. I feel as though I didn’t have enough focus to convey that, but I do like the way the words come together.

Hurstville Bus Interchange, Early Morning

What I feel is a peaceful and quiet scene. The sun is coming out and few people are around. Traffic is low. This area is waking up.

I like the softness of the colours, as well as the difference in the height of the various structures. I feel there’s both a sense of variation and sameness in the architecture, the roads and the other visible objects. I also like that part of the main part of the sunrise is quite visible despite it being outside of the scene.

I hope you enjoy.

Issue During a Bushwalk

Yesterday I went bushwalking. It was certainly a walk in the bush, of which I mean the following of paths and not straying from them unless I knew with absolute certainty that it was safe to do so.

A friend and I headed off into the Royal National Park. It had been almost three months since my last bushwalk and I wasn’t quite fit enough for that one. Considering the amount of physical activity I had done in the interim was somewhere in the range between very little and not at all, it’s quite safe to say that I was not quite fit enough for this one either, though that wasn’t quite what took me down.

We started early and got a good pace. The first part was a fire trail and it was easy to move along. Kind of interesting, kind of not. If it had been my first time I did this particular walk, then I’d probably have found this part of the track more interesting, but I’ve seen it enough to not quite care for it.

Eventually the fire trail ended and we continued along the path we needed to follow in order to continue our walk. We checked out a waterfall and it was quite strong (the last time I was at this place the waterfall and the creek it fell into were quite dry). We walked through a semi-open, rather windy area. Saw sweeping valleys… you know, stuff easy to see in quite a few bushland regions.

Eventually we reached a major rest point and so rest we did. We were doing quite well for time. Had The Honeymoon Track as the last major hurdle (a part of The Royal National Park that I don’t like to walk, though still find it appreciable). The rest was somewhat-smooth.

Whilst we were resting I started getting pain around my right lung (or at least what I’m assuming was around my right lung as it was in the vicinity. It went from the front of my chest through to my back. There was also quite a bit of pain in my right shoulder and in a small part of the right side of my neck. I began to have difficulty breathing. I stood up, tried pacing back and forth just to see if it helped, which it did not, though on the plus side it didn’t make things worse.

My friend had gone to the bathroom whilst this was happening. When they came back I told them what I was feeling, then made my way to the bathroom. I wasn’t able to walk too fast. On the way back to where we were resting I was slower. I told my friend a bit more about what I was experiencing, but that I could keep going; we’d just have to go slow. They were fine with the change of pace.

My friend took a few items I had so my backpack was lighter. It helped out quite a bit.

We walked up to a short bridge we needed to cross in order to continue. I was struggling more with breathing. When I say struggling, I still was breathing, but my breaths were quite shallow as it hurt quite a lot to breathe. We stopped on the bridge for a moment, then kept going. Still was moving quite slow.

On the other side we kept walking for maybe a minute before I said I needed to lie down. I had been somewhat-concerned beforehand and here I still was, but I was quite calm by this point. I had panicked a bit when I went to the bathroom and came out, but I wasn’t feeling faint and was still quite conscious and aware, so I felt that there was a good chance that I had only strained something and didn’t require a hospital visit.

I lay in the shade partially in the recovery position (right shoulder was too sore to allow myself into recovery position properly) and my breathing was much better. I couldn’t quite breathe deeply without some pain, but normal breathing was easy. I lay there for a bit and my friend and I talked. My friend made it clear that if I wanted to stop and call an ambulance, or get a lift out of the park and to a train station, they’d support it. I think there were a few times I told them what I was experiencing and I went through my reasoning as to why I didn’t feel it was necessary to call an ambulance.

I don’t know if I should or should not have called an ambulance. Skills gained from Marine science studies don’t quite translate well when it comes to medical deduction (depending on the specific field of course, but in my case it comes to very little, if any of what I’ve learned is useful for medical stuffs) and I’m not entirely sure if my deductions were sound. However, I felt that, considering I was still conscious and aware, I was still able to talk and when in a position where I could breathe more comfortably without that ability to breathe growing more difficult made me think that I’d strained something rather than grievously injured myself. Well, there’s that and I was too stubborn to give up the walk.

Considering where the pain was I figured that it was the weight on my backpack being quite poorly balanced, creating a lot of strain that could’ve been avoided. Not 100% certain, but it was (and still is) what I felt was the main cause.

Eventually I got up and the pain, whilst still quite prominent, was not as bad as earlier. We kept going slowly, though I was a little faster. When we reached the start of The Honeymoon Track I had another rest. Then we slowly made our way up.

The Honeymoon Track is short. It is (if I remember correctly) one-and-a-half kilometres and usually takes around twenty minutes. When you start it at the Audley End, it’s mostly uphill. Going slow and stopping semi-regularly made it a lot easier for me to handle.

By the time we got to the top my breathing and walking was much better, but still not great. We had one more rest, I called my partner and let her know what was going on but that I was mostly fine (as, whilst I was in pain, I was functional and coping). My friend and I then did the last bit of the walk.

We followed the Loftus tram track to near the park’s edge (saw an eastern brown snake along the way), took a turn away from the tracks and followed a path that took us to where we needed to cross a road to get to Loftus Station. By that point I was significantly better, though still in bad shape.

Caught the train, went home, rested. Took it easy. Still am at the moment. Today has been rough. Deep breaths still aren’t great and they lead to me coughing a bit, but the pain is nearly gone. Well, I think it’s nearly gone. It’s probably going to linger for a few days. My legs are more sore than my chest, arm and neck are, so I consider that some sort of positive.

The walk was a good one. Needing to rest and slowing down added extra time but it was time well spent. We got to see some great scenery and a good amount of birds. The air was crisp and lovely, and all around the sound was rather peaceful and relaxing. It was worth the effort, which is more than I can say about writing out all of this. However, at the end of all of this, I feel that it is important to state one rather important thing:

Make sure the weight in your backpack is properly balanced.

I’d say something about fitness but I don’t feel as though I overestimated that as the walk we did isn’t a difficult walk so long as you’re careful. Being fitter would’ve helped, but a lack thereof didn’t do much to impede. The backpack weight balancing firmly stands, however.

Structural Ants

I’m only putting this up right now as I’m rather tired and managed to injure myself in a mysterious, yet rather serious way so I want to rest for the time being.

This is a rather simple and plain photo, but I like the geometry of the rails and the bridge. I also like the difference in colour, but I mostly like the ants that someone drew. There’s something cute about them.

I hope you enjoy.

During Movement

This is the guitarist for Even.
They were the support act for The Dandy Warhols when they played at The Enmore last year.

Maybe this shot is a little too dark, but I feel as though it captures the guitarist quite well. There’s a sense of passion and enjoyment that comes through, but strangely enough he seems to be quite still.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 742: Lost the Incentive

Now, I think I was going to write about the application of chicken to glue.

I think I was, but somehow I lost the incentive and it’s not behind the couch, so therefore I am merely going to do the thing that involves the thing and so there will be chains and consequences. Who knows how it will all turn out in the end? It doesn’t merely end with this bit of writing, but after many, many more to come. We’ll just have to see how it all frazzles itself. Hopefully there is no fizzling. A nice pop will do, but fizzling is just not acceptable in this current climate of climates.

I think that perhaps instead of that I’ll just let the simmering begin and whist that happens I’ll make sure to do the dance that summons the reason of doubt to combat the reason of certainty and we’ll see which of the two come out on the top of the pile that has been created from the amount of battles that have occurred among the pile that was once not a pile. It was once a spot and it was a spot that had no piling up upon it, so the piling needs to be cleaned at some point as perhaps some might consider it to be a little too much of a pile. It might reach the ceiling and we just can’t have that.

After the dance of the conjuring there will be the dance of the cleaning and by that I mean there will be a series of events that involve the process of cleaning done in order to clean the pile. Therefore there will be the use of tools in order to clean a pile up. I think. Maybe there will be no tool use at all. If that is indeed the case, what will have to be applied are the things known as “elbow grease” and “hard yakka”. It might be difficult work, but with enough grunt it will be far more surmountable than people once thought possible.

Then there is the simmering that needs to be taken into consideration as there was nothing cooking at all other than the water left in the pan. Bit of a waste of energy, as well as good water. Perhaps that too will need to be addressed, unless of course someone else is able to find a good use for what is going on. Myself, I’ll just float on back to where I was before ad try to work out this chicken glue problem. Once that is worked out I’ll just find myself going to bed or something as I’m rather tired at this point as there have been far too many nights with low amounts of sleep and I’m getting a bit tired of being a bit tired.

Anyway, now that that is out of the way I’ll just think of something to finish this off. Then I’ll look for something else upon which to work.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:25:12

I’m somewhat-okay with this. It’s a product of being rather tired. It’s loose, sloppy, etc. However, it has a certain kind of sense of scenery that appeals to me.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 741: Repeating Myself

It has been a long day and now it is time for much-needed rest. However, rest has to wait as there still are things that I need to take care of before the sleep of a period of a series of (hopefully) consecutive hours occurs, so I don’t get to rest much. However, I probably will anyway as that is the kind of person that I am… sometimes. Right now I’ll just hurt this keyboard a bit and we’ll see what the result is. Maybe it will be good. Maybe it will be bad. Probably bad. Anyway.

There’s something rather inviting about the night at this current moment. Something inviting and comforting. Maybe it’s just that, after having a long day of doing stuff it seems a little less oppressive, though realistically those are qualities that I’m applying to the night. Of course those qualities can be applied to many a thing. It depends on many factors; some internal and some external. I don’t feel much like getting into that at at the moment, however as I would much rather write something less grounded. Doesn’t seem as though that is going to happen, however, so maybe I should just stay firmly planted upon the planet of which so many of us live and not attempt to float off and away into the stars, or something else entirely.

So, a long day and now I’m here and I’m doing the typing thing. Sometimes that’s the way things go. Sometimes they derail hard, but sometimes they stay on track. Some of this day derailed, but it mostly remained on track. I guess it’s possible that if the slight derailing had not occurred then the day would’ve gotten a bit more squeezed into it, but it didn’t and I guess I made do with what I could, or something to similar effect. I’m trying to get something across here and it doesn’t seem to be working, so I’ll stop pretending to be trying to get something across and instead just get back to finishing this off due to the need to do a few things before going to sleep, but keep in mind that those things are likely to not be done. Such is the way of things sometimes, but not always.

Anyway, now that I think I’ve said what I was trying to say (or not say, depending on how you want to read the whole thing), I think that I shall find a moment to rest as there is rest needed, which is something that I’ve said a few times now. However, I need to keep in mind that there are things that need to be done before the rest starts, so those need to be done to get them out of the way so the rest can occur, but instead of doing them I will not do them and rest instead…

I think I’m repeating myself a bit here, so instead of that I’ll just make my exit right now.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:39:22

This one… eh. I’m glad I wrote it but I think I became too self-aware whilst writing.

Framing a Frame

Specifically of a bridge that I cycled across last week.

The light rail runs across this bridge and Parramatta Road passes underneath.

I like how it seems that, other than some of it visible in its curving over, the frame appears to be curving away at the sides of the photo.

Mostly I really like how well the colours and shapes came through. I think that the image is interesting mostly in terms of shape and geometry, but it also has a decent colour balance.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-tenth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Creativity in the time of Covid“.

I don’t know how creative this image appears, but I feel it’s important to try and be creative in photography, despite what restrictions are and are not in place, hence my inclusion of a photo taken flat.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is hosted Tina. Next week’s is hosted by Patti.

I recommend checking out how people are interpreting the challenges. I also recommend joining in. It’s a growing, fun community.

I hope you enjoy.
