Five-Hundred Word Challenge 131: Morning on a Saturday

It’s a morning on a Saturday, the first full day of the end of the week, although the week also begins on the following day, Sunday, so I am not sure as to why that’s called the weekend as well, as it should be called the week-beginning, although trying to call it that would lead to a weak beginning, just like this one, although I should probably pretend that it’s a lot stronger than it is, thus covering somehow, although not at the same time.

Anyway, today is the day I start to hunker down and study, by not doing such a thing at all!

There will be some, but it shall not be until later, as there are things that I must attend to beforehand.

They are not as important as getting myself an education increase, but they still need to be done for procrastination has reigned supreme over the last few weeks, so it is time for me to kick it in the face and complete obligation and responsibility to an impressively brilliant amount and then stop farting around for a good while, until I get lazy again.

Maybe I should write something interesting instead of blabbering on, demonstrating my ability to procrastinate (and at the same time, not really demonstrating anything), but that would require effort, and that is in short supply right now, so instead an ongoing waffling about very little, or quite a lot, shall continue on until I get to the end of these five-hundred words that I’ve set upon myself to conquer in the same way that a flower conquers the soil on a day with good conditions, slowly taking root and strengthening the grasp it holds over what is directly beneath it, forever ruling until the land strikes back and cleaves the flower with no difficulty that can be seen in any way, shape, or form, for it is truly the land that rules over the flower and not the other way around.

With that being said, I should also probably stop writing right now and get onto what it is that I need to take care of, as this is also a form of avoiding doing things that I need to take care of.

Well, to be fair, I don’t need to take care of much right now, but if I actually took care of it sooner, then it would be out of the way and I could do more study sooner.

Nope. Still not interesting in the slightest.

Alright then…

Once upon a time there was a mysterious stranger that had a deep, resonant voice and handsome pose. He was so strange and mysterious that they struck an equilibrium that was not unheard of, but combined with his handsome pose, enhanced themselves to stratospheric levels of amazement that could not be well defined.

Then, without warning, he headed somewhere and did some thing, and the story ended without much else to go on, as sometimes that does happen.

The end.

Fast, but mediocre.

Afternoon Moon

Whilst walking from Waterfall to Loftus, I was able to get a good shot of the moon.

It’s not too often that you see the moon during the afternoon.

For me, the “Cherry On Top” for this photo is the light cloud cover in this photo.

It makes the image look a little more interesting and pleasant.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Mower

Here’s a shot I took when I was walking from Waterfall to Loftus.

This was somewhere during the second half of the walk.

I didn’t expect to see a lawnmower in the bush, but I did, so here it is.

It was covered in rust and quite broken down. I’m not sure if it was stripped for some of its parts, or if they disintegrated over time.

This is my sixty-fifth submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 130: Return to University

And thus, the unending nightmare that is university has resumed its ongoing consumption of all that is held dear by many, such as an aversion to studying whilst relaxing far more than anyone should at any given time.

Yes, it’s that time of year where I go back to university for the semester known as the second one that comes after the first, sequentially, in order to maintain some semblance of order and flow, instead of some sort of random chaos where you don’t know what is coming next as someone stuffed up and managed to mix everything together by mistake without remembering how it was all meant to go because they didn’t pay enough attention, so now everyone has to suffer for their transgression, which really isn’t fair at all because I’d rather have some semblance of order and cohesion, knowing where I’m meant to go and what subjects I’m meant to attend, so I’m glad that that has not happened because that would be a real mess.

Well, actually, this is my second second semester of university (the first being when I did the preparation program), so I’m feeling pretty chuffed and at the same time tired and lazy and not wanting to go in, but I must, for I want to be the best that ever was and will ever be until someone who is better than I comes along and challenges me for the crown that I wear upon my head due to my continuous work to maintain its position of being there, sitting comfortably and yet uncomfortably at the same time, for one should always strive to continue to push forward and so on.

Technically I’ve started, but aside from today (I have to go in to pick up course packs and other items), I don’t go back until next week, so I still have plenty of time to bemoan my fate and not do anything, trying to remain in a panicked state and avoiding all responsibility until the hour of finality dawns and I am forced to return to learn and absorb the knowledge of the elders that entrust it to the youth of today.

Although, before all of that, I should probably have breakfast as I’m rather hungry and satiating hunger is quite important in this day and age.

Essentially, as you have most likely figured out, it’s cold, I’m hungry and don’t want to deal with responsibility right now as my desire to be lazy outweighs everything else, and yet I know that if I put everything off now, it’ll create more work later, so if I want to be lazy, the best solution is to get everything out of the way so I don’t have more to do later.

That way I can lounge around and do nothing for a while, but then again, there will probably be more stuff to do in some sort of never-ending  dance between doing what I want and plenty of responsibility.

WILL IT EVER END?!

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:42:35

Pretty happy with that time.

Nothing else to say, really.

Sydney Harbour Bridge From Sydney Harbour

I took this photo on the way to Circular Quay after I was finished with taking photos at North Head.

As I don’t often have the opportunity to take a photo from the front of a ferry, I decided to do just that.

I like how all of these turned out. I was mostly playing around with saturation levels and not much else.

There was another I was going to include here, but I like how these three kind of look like they’re showing an image progressively fade.

I feel that the images are quite relaxed and don’t have too much empty space.

I also like how much they show of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and I like how the Sydney Opera House is also here, seen at an angle that’s not too common.

The last image is my sixty-fourth submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.

Clouds Above North Head

Here’s another photo I took after doing the Spit Junction to Manly walk.

I headed to North Head after to take photos.
It was the first time I had been there.
At one point I took photos of the clouds above.

I decided to play around with the photo and ended up with the below result.

I like how dramatic, vast, ominous and massive it looks.
I also like how it looks like there’s a face that cannot be seen.

The second is closer to how it originally looked

There was another but I decided not to include it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 8: In Which I Attempt to Write a Lengthy Poem as Quickly as Possible

And thus the berries were out of reach
And there were many lessons of which one was to teach
And yet the challenge was so near and so far
And there were times when it felt to be too tough
Yet there was a need to try and succeed
And perhaps that once the challenge had been faced
And all adversaries and obstacles had been displaced
A chance to rest would be attained
Yet the time of peace could not forever be retained

It was a day twice the length of the night
On which the journey I took upon myself
It was needed to be reached; the branches beyond grasps
It was a task that required some sort of completion
A pack full of supplies was all that was required
Its weight was felt, yet some of it would be retired
And along with a familiar blade by my side
The weight was felt, yet was needed for what was supplied

An early start was the best approach
Walking whilst eating and thinking of anecdotes
A road wide and easy laid bare in front of my steps
Leaving little chance of leaving the track
To reach branches that lay high upon an earth stack
Yet the track  was long and far too linear
Leaving the mind to grow restless and thinking unclear
It was the danger of progressing easily
Yet an early start helped ease the tedium

Eventually a tree was reached and faced
With little difficulty found in the path traced
The mind was able to focus more and be exercised
As I tried to work out how I’d climb to reach the skies
And once more a challenge was posed in front
Although it was the first real one found on this quest
A tree with no easy way of ascending
The branches were high and not prone to bending
My short blade would  be needed for ascending

I approached the trunk; thick and smooth
I removed my dagger from its pouch
Light and nimble, yet durable and strong
My hand raised and prepared to strike into the wood
When a sound behind me struck out in surprise
Someone fell from the tree, uninjured and prepared
They had been waiting in ambush to take out my head
I did what I could and prepared for a fight
Removed my pack and assumed position

The person charged with a fearsome stride
Suddenly I found that I would prefer to hide
Yet there was nowhere to go and nowhere to run
The area was open and lacking in vegetation
Aside form the tree – so large and grand
As long as my back was to it, then strong I could stand
The first blow came and I was lucky enough to parry
For their blade was longer and probably more than I could carry
And not something that I should have been able to parry

I did my best to prevent any wounds
I did not want to hurt them, but I did not want to lose
My best course of action was to continue to block
And make sure that I remained as safe as I could
And yet I knew that I could not keep this up
For they did not seem intent on ending this reign of attacks
I would eventually have to make a strike
That would allow me the chance to end this tirade
So I could focus on ascending the mighty tree

I looked for an opening and yet it did not want to come
I kept on deflecting blows that I faced
There would have to be a point where I could make a strike
Or perhaps I would have to swing blindly into the night
There was a chance my success would be fine
Although perhaps I would miss entirely
And feel myself embarrassed entirely
Yet I would have little choice if this continued
For my adversary felt the desire to refuse to tire

So soon after one of the strikes
Their arm rose up into the sky
I used this opportunity to strike out to their vest
Refusing to do anything that could bee seen as in jest
A sound of air and a gasp was heard
And the sound of metal hitting the earth was heard
Blood had been drawn that was not mine
And yet a wound I had sustained and leaking a little
Yet I was the victor and it was not the end of my tale

I watched them slump to the ground
It was not pleasant; there was little sound
I dressed my wound and prepared for my ascent
To reach the berries after facing detriment
I drove my knife into the trunk
And raised myself to higher places
It was slow and arduous – there were dangers
Yet it did not take long to reach a branch
Finally the berries being attained had a greater chance

And thus the berries were within reach
And many lessons learned that I could teach
The challenge had been dispelled to have a new one arise
As I looked out onto the moving skies
There was a need to try and succeed
And it was met with conviction and well-paced speed
But now it was time to descend from my perch
For despite the peaceful scene I could see
I needed to begin my return journey

It was growing dark as I began to go down
I slowly and carefully planned to reach the ground
I tried to take my time and prevent any mishaps
To ensure that the berries would be brought back to town
Yet it was more difficult than I expected
A rope I could use but had not carried
For the trunk was as thick as it was smooth
And soon I lost my grip and began to fall fast
For the grooves made earlier had moved from my path

There was nothing that I could do
I approached the ground and hoped for the best

The time it took to write one thousand words: 24:36:45

Slower than I hoped, but still happy with the time as I ended up pausing a fair bit and trying to think about what I was writing which ended up being more than I should have.

Anyway, not a great poem, but I’m happy.

Written at work.

A View of Sydney Harbour

Here’s a shot I took at the same time as the last one.
To me, this image feels relaxed, simple, and warm.

I’m not a major fan of shots involving the Sydney Opera House, but I do think it does look good in some photos.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 129: Monday Ramble

I don’t think I have a rant in me today, but I felt the need to write something as I’ve been lazy as of late and I don’t enjoy that very much as I’m not doing enough of what I want to do, so that is why I am now writing what I am writing right now.

The major problem that I currently have is that I’m rather tired, but I guess that is bound to happen when one attends a gig on a Sunday evening and then end up being surprised by it finishing late.

I shouldn’t have been surprised and I shouldn’t have expected a gig on a Sunday to finish early just because it’s a gig before the first day of the traditional working week.

Still, as much as I should not have been surprised, I was and that’s my problem.

On the plus side, I attended a gig on a Sunday and it was quite satisfactory.

On the down side, I need a pillow and a blanket and a bed so I can get some more sleep.

However, if I do that now, I’ll be awake for most of the night and that would end up being more disastrous. I’d much prefer to stay awake now and make it to the end of the day, go to sleep at a reasonable hour, then wake up tomorrow feeling less tired than I am now.

I’d also prefer to spend some time with my dreams during that period of having my eyes closed for an extended period of time as then I get to be bound by whatever my dreams decide.

I think…

Anyway…

so right now I’m tired and talking about things that don’t really matter, but at least I’m awake and working in a job I want to work, although I could also go for a bit of cycling along a river, or lengthy cycle track, taking it easy, finding somewhere to stop and pull out my camera so I can take a number of photos and then go home, make some music, make some “art”, and then go through the photos I took  and start tearing my hair out because I took far too many and none of them are good.

It’s a hard life.

I could also just get back to work and let the day fly by, but I don’t think that’s going to happen because I don’t have a winged kangaroo to fly around and those things are generally quite disgruntled, although not nearly as disgruntled as wombats are.

And see, this is the point where I start rambling for no good  reason, but at least I’m going with the flow that’s coming out.

Now, if only I could try and focus and write something with meaning.

Perhaps not quite possible right now.

Either way, I’m still writing and that’s the main thing.

Whether it’s any good, I don’t know, but at least there will be some entertainment gained from it, hopefully.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:03:26

I’m quite chuffed with that speed, although I think what I wrote could have had more focus.

Oh well.

Written at work.

Into the City

Here’s another shot I took at the same time as these two.

I like the warmth of the colours and how well distance works with the view.

I like how the image makes what is being seen seem small and low key.

I also think that it’s a decent view of the city and a small part of some of the suburban areas.

I hope you enjoy.
