There was a forest and within that forest were many a tree and on each tree were many a habitat and ecosystem containing many upon many invertebrates, each supporting their way of life and some indirectly supporting each other through their vast journey around the sun.
In the forest with the trees was a stream that turned into a river at points and in that river was life sustained quite well. There was a push and pull, but otherwise balance was well-maintained and there was little reason to panic or change the way that the life had operated.
One could say that this was a place that sustained life well. Of course, in many many thousands of years from then, this could change, but in this particular point in time, there was little to be concerned with for life was sustained and the forest was untouched.
There were birds, there were insects, there were fish, there were many creatures.
It was a place to live and in this place that was so untouched it was to remain that way.
Of course, eventually people went in to explore and discover what lay in the impenetrable, but true to that word, the people were unsuccessful in getting in and discovered nothing.
There were attempts to survey with drones, but other than a few small open pockets, there was no way to discover what lay within the boundaries. The forest was safe. The trees remained untouched. The stream that became a river remained full and the inhabitants remained fine.
When a tree fell due to whatever reason it would fall, eventually one or more would grow to fill in the space. Of course, it took many a year before the space was once again covered, but it would eventually be filled.
Over time, the forest eventually shrank. It took a long time, but its mass and vastness decreased and eventually people were able to find a way in.
Many a species that was not known to the world was discovered and many a person was ecstatic.
Many years passed by and eventually the city that was nowhere to be seen grew closer and closer, until it bordered the forest.
There was a need to fight for space, for the city needed to expand its bordered further and going around was not, in its mind, something that could be considered, so it was not long before the city and its denizens began moving over the forest.
Many a tree went down and much of the land lay bare.
Once the stream was reached, many of the people realised what was being done in the name of the city and so they designated some of the area as parkland in order to help preserve some of the forest and the wide open spaces with only a few small pockets of trees, as it had always been.
And thus they then could remain content that the forest was quite successfully preserved as it had once appeared.

Started dull, kind of remained dull.
Feels like an improvement, if only by a small amount.
