One listen for this one.
I’m not sure if what I’m about to say is related to this song, but I’m wondering if a lot of music I’ve written about and listened to is about an idealised innocence rather than anything else it might purport to be. I started wondering when I was writing the below and I’m still wondering.
Anyway, I went in just looking to write about the song and that’s what happened. I think there’s a bit too much repetition in places, but overall I drew out an idea of the song.
Animal Feelings’ “Love Cubes” is from Love Cubes.
I hope you enjoy.
—
A rolling series of keys dancing in a dreamy light, shimmering here and there and rolling onward. A lower key underscores and guides melody through the fields and through the space, and soon beat comes in, pulsing in a pattern.
A little pause of sorts in some sounds and the pattern changes. It moves in a stillness on a flat plane and it carries delicateness. It is a brief moment and soon those lower notes return, looking at breadth and emotion, and that little melancholy comes through in joy and innocence as the beat pulls away and the notes keep on rolling.
Smiles and frowns, and maybe some tears as innocence fades but joy remains in these older moments and memories, and the beat returns and the sounds continue moving through space, and under a dreamy light and through the rain and through the joy and laughter, and the sadness and the looking forward.
Eventually the notes slow a little, or at least seem to slow a little, and they find a beautiful moment to reflect upon, and they draw to a close as the song ends.
