Five-Hundred Word Challenge 979: Friday Morning Ramble

That need. That drive is there. It is early morning and I feel the need to make something.

Well, it’s not so early in the morning now, but it’s still kind of early. The sun is out and it’s a little brighter outside, but ti was darker before.

It appears as though the day is going to be sunny and bright once more.

In here it is never sunny and bright, though a little light does seep in. A little is better than none, yet it remains not enough. Still, you work with what you have and all that other stuff.

So with that being said, I guess I should keep on pushing on to try and create something out of these words. The drive is there, but the aimlessness also exists and that poses a problem, but sometimes you can work a problem into its own solution. Of course it depends on what the problem is, but sometimes it can be done. I don’t think that it will be done here, but it must be said that it can definitely be done.

What cannot be done is the thing that I am not doing, though it too can be done. However, it might just be underdone. Or something.

I have no idea as to where I am going with this.

So anyway, the birds outside can be heard, as can the music of which is playing from the speakers connected to the device of which is playing music which just also happens to be the device that I am using to bang all of this out. There’s a sense of connection going on here and it might just happen to be due to the devices being connected. Maybe it is due to other things too, but the most direct thing is the thing that I just mentioned, so… yeah.

The desire to create does not necessary lead to a creation that could be described as having god form, but that’s not the worst thing in the world and so I consider this to be an exercise in exercising, or something to similar effect. However, I do feel the need to start working on wrapping this up and so I will start working on wrapping this up. I will find the way to the conclusion and once I have found it, I will look at something else once more. Then there will be a lot of procrastination and once that is done, perhaps something else will find itself revealed among all of the debris that I am summoning with the words I am using. Maybe then something will reveal itself and I’ll be able to come to a conclusion about the creation of this bit of writing, but of course there are other things to consider and all of that other stuff.

So anyway, with all of this being said, I think I’ll close this off. Not much space for rumination, but sometimes you create to create and so on.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:01:32

Thinking about this and how bland it is, but I’m not dissatisfied.
Feeling the drive to get things done at the moment and I need to capitalise on that instead of letting it slip away. In a way this helps get things started.

Can You Love Me For Me?

I took this the last time I was in the city.

I found the graffiti intriguing. Not sure why.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Camera Obscura: Cinematheque

Two listens with a restart a small part into the way of one of them.

With this one I started looking to talk about what the instrumentation was doing but stopped doing that really quickly and instead talked about what the sounds overall were doing. Kind of.

Not sure if I did enough to cover the song, but I think I captured a sense of it, if that makes sense.

Camera Obscura’s “Cinematheque” is from To Change the Shape of an Envolope.

I hope you enjoy.

Bass plays out with a solidarity. It is lonesome, determined. Something comes in and throbs, something else begins moving. A sound rises far in the background, or perhaps it is underneath, then fades, then comes back, as though it is about to burst into focus. Then suddenly the rest of the instruments come in, wide, expansive loud, warm. Massive, atmospheric. Vocals float somewhere in the middle of it all as the whole thing just washes over and engulfs. They are there, barely audible as something creating words. Almost indistinct and more of a sound to grab hold amidst the mass of sound.

For a moment there seems a sense of rising in the music as though it is churning, though it lasts not long and a return to the verses is quickly found. Once more the sound stretches out and pushes, then churns again, then goes back to pushing outward. Then it churns once more, this time longer and with more heave.

The song’s closing comes in, this time with more melody. Fitting, yet harsh against what came before. The sounds rush as much as they don’t, and the sense of release moves onward, surging without abatement. A sound repeatedly rises to surface, almost as though it is riding the mass. Vocals stretch out more, still distinct yet indistinct.

Eventually the sound gradually diminishes and fades away. Scattering synth sounds come forward, begin to unify and start rising before getting cut off as the song ends.

Boots

These are the boots that I wear when I shoot gigs.

Not necessarily tough, but reliable.

They’re also not as old as they may seem; Just worn out.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-sixty-first Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Feet and Shoes“.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

Leya is curating this one. The next one is curated by Tina.

I recommend participating in the challenges. They’re enjoyable and allow room for interpretation of the theme without straying too far. If you don’t participate, then I recommend that you at least check out what others of the Lens-Artists community are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Loose Rant About Climate Change

It is daytime and I am getting this done in the morning.

Small goals.

So anyway, it is getting warmer at the moment. Sure, we’re near the end of our winter, but this feels unseasonably warm. Concerns abound and all that stuff. Perhaps it is time that there is more attention paid to the things that we do and the impacts that they have. There’s a lot of science and research available on those things and a lot of it is not behind a paywall of sorts, so perhaps more people should check this stuff out. See what information there is and work out what they base their beliefs on and how the research conflicts with that and all that stuff.

When I went through my undergrad degree there was a lot of stuff on climate change which annoyed me as I understood that there was an impact from our actions already. I understood that we can turn this around and make things better for both the planet and ourselves. However, at the same time, seeing the research (or at least parts of it) and seeing how the data is collected and studied to work out what it can reveal goes a great distance; well, not always, but usually. Sometimes the data reveals things you weren’t expecting and sometimes it reveals things you were expecting. There are a lot of things between, but at the end of the day research helps us better understand stuff and make decisions more informed by that understanding.

I hate being sensationalist, but the fact is that we’re at a rather critical juncture in our history. We’re at a point where we can start making changes in our lives that better benefit ourselves and our communities and the world as a whole. We can take on some things that are slight inconveniences that, ultimately, won’t affect our going about that much, but will have a greater, positive impact on our lives. We can choose to do this, or we can be forced into a situation where we have no choice but to take on some pretty significant inconveniences due to our continued inaction.

This isn’t just a people problem. This isn’t just a personal responsibility thing. It is not just a person issue. We also need to look at corporate structure and industrial activity. A lot of that can also be turned around. There needs to be some sort of accountability that matters.

The problem is big, but one person can make a difference. More people doing things can have influence others and in turn build a stronger movement toward change. Corporations can be changed and shifted, and policy can be guided by the will of the people.

What’s the worst that happens when it comes to building a better tomorrow? Say that climate change driven by human impact turns out to be a big fat hoax and we did all this work, making our environment cleaner and healthier and then nothing comes of it?

Well, at least everything is cleaner, healthier and our overall standard of living improves. But apparently that’s too fucking much to ask for some.

End rant.

A Poem About Trying to Get Something Down

I left things way too late this afternoon and perhaps I should’ve have written anything, but I did, which is the below.

It’s… really, really rough.

I hope you enjoy.

I know not what I shall do
For there are many ways to go
I have sat here for far too long
And my need for slumber approaches

I’ve moved back and I’ve moved forth
As all I find is indecision
Though all this comes down to
My lack of bothering through the day

So I sit here and hope for something
Though nothing finds itself apparent
And so I just keep on sitting
And aimlessly beat on a keyboard

On the Platform

Here’s a photo of someone on a rock platform.
Port Botany is visible in the background.

Something rather isolated about this photo. It almost feels as though there is no one else around. It’s an image somewhat quiet and somewhat minimal.

Well, maybe not minimal, but with little to distract from the main subject. Or maybe a lot.

I hope you enjoy.

A Poem About Doing Too Much

So this was written mostly quickly.
I stopped for a while, then churned out the third verse.
Not necessarily well-written stuff. Probably a bit too obvious. I don’t know.

I hope you enjoy.

Pressed for time I rush about
Hoping to find a little more
To squeeze in some extra bits
Leaving little left undone

Despite how much I hope and try
There only is so much each day
And so some things are best left
For other days to accommodate

Though much as I would for this
I will keep on squeezing
As much as I can into a day
And try to add a bit more

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 978: Lazy Day

Ear burning and all that, but it’s a relaxing day so I elongate my fingers and move over the keyboard at an accelerated pace, but it feels rather relaxed and calm and all of those other things.

Today is a day in which things get done, but they are not currently getting done and their not getting done means that this is getting done, but I covered that yesterday and that is something I don’t quite feel like doing right now. I’d much rather look at other things and see where they all lie, then traverse the obstacles that lie in the path of my choosing and then get to the thing that is the other thing or things and then look at that for a bit.

It might be fruitful.

So anyway, I sit here and let the day lazily slide by. I imagine the clouds drifting on over, but the small patch of blue that I can see when I look out of my window in a specific way suggests that the clouds are not here today. Perhaps they are elsewhere, doing the things that they need to do in order to help spread some sort of rain or something.

It would be nice here, but maybe not. Maybe there is a need for the sun today and… well, there’s a need for the sun every day, but that’s beside the point. At the moment the point is that I’d like some more clouds in the sky in this particular location of the world so that my lazy daydreaming can continue unabated by my need to check to see if there are clouds outside, thus ruining the illusion and leading to me writing all of this nonsense out at a rate that could be deemed as quick, but not necessarily as fast as quick implies.

Still, maybe the daydream can continue in some manner. Maybe I can find a way to stretch it out and have it take some sort of meaning and shape and thus make it become reality and all that other stuff. Maybe the illusory can become real, but that won’t happen today as today is the day of living in the illusion and hoping that it all comes to reality, like those clouds, which eventually will appear, but not due to my desires. Rather they would appear due to patterns in nature, so all I can do is wait and hope.

Well, I can do other things, so perhaps I will do other things instead. I will write this out and then I will do some other things. I am not sure as to what those other things will be, but they will come to me as I approach them and then we will link hands or something. There will be a linking and then all will happen and nothing will happen and I will still be sitting here, wondering where the time went.

Maybe I should just pick up a book and read.

Lazy writing this one is.

Peter Gabriel: Fourteen Black Paintings

This was slowly written over three listens.

I was aiming to avoid imagery (I think) and I mostly succeeded.
Still, this doesn’t say too much about the song, though maybe that’s okay.

I hope you enjoy.

Woodwind comes in, soft, gentle, though not without a sense of something off.
Sounds hum in the background as the woodwind continues its movement, then when it is time they come more to the forefront. A sense of something building underneath becomes apparent; there is tension and perhaps there is anger. The rhythm, faint, stays steady, almost rolling forward, marching with the music that almost feels like a dirge. It is dry and sparse, though also very full.

Peter Gabriel’s vocals come in, not quite shouting and not quite howling. Distant, calling out. Pleading, rising and falling and rising in power. Underneath the music rolls and flows, rising in its drama.

Upon Gabriel’s final word the sounds pull back for a moment, then shifts, almost as though dawn has come. There is a shift and whilst the music remains dark, it starts to find something shifting away from a sense of hopelessness. Peter Gabriel calls out in the background, sounding vague, yet impassioned. Hope and determination come forward, and the music warmly drones as the song ends.
