One Thousand Word Challenge 113: Small Thoughts

More ramblings from the day that was.

It was a long day and little was achieved, but I may have made a few people richer, though I highly doubt that was the case as I did not live in some weird fantasy today, though maybe I did.

There was a low rumbling that came from where the rain parted, though when I think about it, that may just have been my music telling me that it was on a song with a low rumbling and thus I probably should have paid more attention to it as now it exists in a space of uncertainty. Sure, I could try and find out what it was, but I’m pretty sure that I already know and I don’t want to do any more prying as, to be honest, I don’t feel like it. I’d much rather do this and then get on with whatever it is that I shall do after this.

It is a little cold outside and a little warm inside and I’m hoping for a little less warmth inside as it’s making me feel a bit drowsy and it is far, FAR too early for me to go to sleep as there is much to be done so I can announce there has been nothing done.

Work was work and as it stretches cross and smothers everything in its path, I could only stand there, mouth agape and powerless to do anything as people fell to its almighty power and ironclad grasp; its menacing look staring out over everything and reducing all to ash and nothingness as it continued to spread on beyond the vanguard of the living lands.

Sometimes I wonder as to how it is that I do what it is that I do. Then I am fortunate to remember that there is plenty of time to do things so long as I make the time to do things, so I continued to make the time and hopefully the time does not make me. That being said, I am not making time, but merely spending it as though it were a currency in strictly limited supply.

The rain is still falling but right now it’s much less raging than it was earlier on in the day. There are less waves, though they still are there. The waves are much calmer now. Perhaps it will get worse later, though maybe it will remain calm from here on and the rest of the rain will gradually decrease and disappear sooner rather than later.

Maybe my speed of writing comes in waves and depends on a number of factors rather than nothing at all. Of course, this is probably quite true and now I’m just trying to come up with whatever it is that I can come up with, but I think that somehow the point still stands and this will all make sense at the end of it all as what I am currently writing is, really not much to write about at all. This is just a series of thoughts that perhaps are not connected and as such they will be easier to make sense of, or something.

Now it is time for the derailing of everything, but I don’t know as to how I will be able to achieve this. I don’t even know if I want to achieve this. I think hat there are other things that I need to worry about at the moment.

The music that is playing is peaceful. It is, as far as I am concerned, great music. However, the person who created the music is best not described as a great person. In a way this makes me feel conflicted. I don’t necessarily see an issue with listening to the music, however, so long as I am willing to discuss the issues surrounding said person and their implications and ramifications. I feel that those kinds of conversations are as important as discussing the art itself. It’s not a simple thing that can easily be summarised and so much thought needs to go into it so as to be able to be concise.

Soon the sun will set, if you consider in around an hour to be soon. I will miss it due to the sky being quite coated in clouds at the current moment, and to be honest I’m already with that for now. There are other things that I would like to take care of that I’ve put off for too long and so those things will be taken care of instead. I will do my best, though perhaps it will be my worst that is done and of course I cannot discount that, so therefore I will just try to do things and not worry about missing the sunset.

I feel as though the longer this bit of writing has gone on, the more grounded and less fantastic it has grown and perhaps that is a missed opportunity. However, rather than focus on what I’ve missed out on here, I would rather focus on continuing the writing so that I get to the end of it and capture the sense of expression that I am trying to capture. This is assuming that there is any sense of expression at all, as perhaps there may be none whatsoever and I’ve done that thing where I do the thing with the rambling instead.

Soon I will be getting up and moving into another room. I will move in space and time into another location. I will be spatially displaced from where I commenced the journey, and that is the way that it should be. However, it doesn’t matter that much. What matters is that I find my way elsewhere and take care of whatever else it is that I need to take care of and then rest for the evening, for I’ve done very little other than work and feed the work beast, and doing very little is an exceptionally tiring endeavour.

Just wanted to see if I could put a few somewhat-non-connected things together.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 917: Writing About Rain

Morning. It is morning and there currently is a reprieve in the amount of rainfall that we are currently receiving. How joyous and all that other stuff.

It’s nice. It’s nice to have a break from things on the odd occasion.

The rain has been at times deafening, heavy and violent. It has been beating away at the roof of this residence and the ground surrounding it, though I imagine that its violence has been far more widespread than I am giving it credit, and such is the way of things on the odd occasion.

It has been a rough few hours, and by few hours I mean also the hours that extend beyond a few as this storm started its raining yesterday. Mostly in the evening, however. It’s mostly been continuous throughout the night and only now has it decided to have a bit of a breather. Sort of a relief.

Maybe stuff will have time to dry now, but I’m not entirely certain. I’m not certain on a number of things and I’m especially not entirely certain on this. We’ve a lot of rain coming out way and as such there’s a lot of work that needs doing in between the brief breaks that we get along the way.

And now the rain has resumed and the noise once gain picks back up and it’s all chaos outside, but perhaps not the same kind of chaos as it was earlier, and perhaps that provides a certain sense of relief as now it doesn’t sound as aggressive and vicious outside. Now it feels more calm and sort of typical for certain typical scenes and framings. Maybe. Of course it might be raining a lot harder than I think it is and I only think that it is not raining as hard as it actually is, which is an interesting form of unintentional deception through perception based on what my immediate surroundings are and are not doing.

I do know that if I go into the back room I will hear the rain with a greater amount of clarity and it will sound exceptionally violent and harsh, but of course I will still something something and find a difference in perception due to difference in surroundings due to difference in position in space and time and all of that other stuff.

It certainly does provide a pleasant enough background sound at times and right now it is peaceful, but it comes and goes in waves and I’m there for the ride as here inside my bedroom I am safe from getting wet and for that I am lucky and thankful.

Maybe if I were outside the rainfall would sound much more peaceful but right now that is not something that I want to try and find out. I would rather do this and then do work and then do some other things and get on wi0th the day. I’d rather hear the rain here, and listen to its shifting waves.

Once more this is a bit of writing that felt like it took a long time to write.

Not anything particularly interesting. Just sort of really grounded writing about the rain.

Erythrina crista-galli

It very much has been a long day and I was planning on doing some writing, but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you view it) the need for rest currently supersedes everything else.

Instead of writing, here’s what I think is a rather pretty set of flowers.

I feel as though these flowers look like a hand, reaching out to grab something.

I think that the shade and mostly uniform colouring helps to keep the attention on the flowers without them feeling overbearing.

I hope you enjoy.

Salvia farinacea

My understanding is that this is also known as mealycup sage.

This photo was taken at The Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney.

I was trying to capture the bee more than the plant, but I think I managed to do an alright job of capturing the plant.

I like how the detail came through, as well as the colour. I think that the flowers feel vivid without being overbearing. I also like how the bee is also quite clear and how it is interacting with one of the petals at this particular moment.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 916: Banal Thursday

It’s morning, blah blah blah, you get the idea.

Today is a raining day, but it is yet to rain. I want that rain to fall as I plan to do some photography in the rain. It would be rather pleasant, so I’m hoping for the rain to fall whilst I’m there and not before, and not after. Of course this hope has no basis other than looking at the weather report, but there remains hope and of course hope can be a motivator to do things, but I cannot make the weather what I want it to be, so that might  just be a bit of a dead end.

Still, I’m still heading out and doing the thing. It’s not going to stop me from doing the thing, so I’m going to do the thing which just so happens to be the act of photography today. That is what I am doing today. Today is a photography day. I am trying to think of something to say. Can you tell? I can.

Anyway, if it rains, it rains. That will be good as the rain falling will mean I get what I want. However, I should not rely on just the rain. I should rely on my getting about to go and see the things that I want to see so that I can take photos of them. I should also rely on the conditions that are out there. I can still get photos and and photos are still what I can get, so I need to make sure that I take them and work with what conditions are there.

It seems that I’m rambling a little more than usual. Not sure why I’m saying that as it’s rather obvious, but I thought I would, so I did.

Anyway, I should start getting ready soon. I need to be out of the house sooner rather than later and of course that means I am once more cutting it close to the edge, which really is something I need to start avoiding. Might cause issues and all of that other stuff. I’m mostly ready and it is going to be a good day full of adventure and adventure will fill the day with stuff that makes it more adventurous, or something. That is what I am going to be telling myself anyway as, to be honest, I’m not actually that sure. Maybe the day will be boring, but that isn’t a problem. There’s nothing wrong with a boring day. You need to make the most of it and today I will make the most of it. I am going to do my best to make sure that I am able to get as much done as I possibly can. I’m going to do my best to take some photos I can work with and I’m also going to do my best to work on my writing so I can write things that are less banal and overtly personal in nature.

This could’ve been so much better.

On the plus side, I felt rather relaxed in writing it, but maybe that is a negative.

Rib Cage

At least, it looks a little like one.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 915: Bit of a Cycle

Late starting with the writing and all that, but sometimes you just have to be a bit busy in the morning in order to be a bit busy in the morning. Bit of a cycle, really, but that’s fine. Cycles are fine; they come and go, much like quality.

Still, I’d much rather not be busy, but sometimes one has to be busy in order to be busy. I’ve already said that, but I’m reinforcing it for no real reason. Such is the way of reinforcing for no real reason. Sometimes you just do in order to do, or something.

Anyway, it’s cold and miserable, and yet joyous and not miserable, which is also fine by me as it means that the weather is doing the thing that it does. Cycles. There will be cycles of weather and they will keep on cycling. That’s fine. Things can happen in cycles; not everything is a non-circle.

Still, perhaps if it were a slight bit warmer… then I’d not be able to wear my warm socks and that would be true suffering. That would be an experience that I would not want to experience as it’s nice to wear the warm socks and have them on your feet as they keep your feet warm and then there is some comfort that is easy to experience and all of that other stuff that I should say but won’t as I’d prefer to trail off and talk about other stuff, but of course I’m not sure as to what that other stuff should be that I would talk about, or will talk about.

Maybe there’s some sort of circle in that too. Or was it cycles? Maybe it was squares. I’m not entirely sure at the moment, but I am sure that, given enough time I will work it out and therefore be able to continue on with whatever it was that I was meant to be going on about, assuming that I even want to talk about what I was going on about, of course. That is something that does need to be assured in order for me to say something about something, but I’m not really saying anything at the moment which somehow manages to make it something as it comments on the nature of talking a lot but saying very little.

How deep.

So of course I need to think about this and perhaps that too, but right now I’m a little busy so there will be no thinking as that would take away from the bring busy, so instead maybe I should just extrapolate some of the information that all of this writing is telling me and then push it forward to somewhere else and see if that manages to turn things around, but to be honest I don’t have high hopes as I’m about to stop writing and take care of the things that I need to take care of in order to get on with some other things.

This was fun to write.

Sails Three

Similar to this photo, but also different.

I think this one has a better sense of depth and shows the structures a little better.

I also like the brightness as it sort of makes the sails feel dry, if that makes sense.

I hope you enjoy.

Tiles to the Sky

This is one of the recent photos I took where I was trying to have The Sydney Opera House be decontextualised whilst still appearing recognisably as itself. I think this one has it no longer being recognisably itself.

That said, I like the contrast between the clear and (relatively) smooth sky, and the tiled, detailed and tiled sail here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 914: A Bit of Spare Time

A bit of spare time can be spent well so long as it is spent well. Therefore, make sure you spend your spare time well. However, truthfully do we really have anything known as spare time?

You only get so much of i0t and it’s not like you accumulate more, though perhaps it is due to how we expend our time that we consider time as being able to be something that you can get a spare (or more) of. Such is the the things of life and such is the way that the wheel turns.

If we could get more time, then perhaps time would lose its value. Perhaps it would be much more easy to recklessly squander it as it wouldn’t matter so much. You’d just be able to get more time so you wouldn’t worry about running out.

Perhaps it’s just not a good idea to worry about running out of time and just focus on working with the time that you have. Maybe that is the best approach to take, but who knows? There are so many options to take and perhaps none are inherently better or worse than an other option.

Of course I’d much prefer to make the most of the time that I have, but that’s just what I want to do. Whilst I’d want more people to make the most of their time, it’s not up to me to impose that kind of thing upon other people.

Anyway, I think it is time for me to use my time a bit better. Sure, I can keep being lazy this morning, but then I might not get much done and I’d rather get a bit done instead of not much.

Perhaps there is something hidden in here that I am not outright stating, but if that were indeed the case, then I imagine that I’d make it obvious due to not being quite good at being subtle, which might both waste and save some time for some, but only waste time for others if they consider their time wasted when they read something that reveals itself all too easily, which some just might and that’s fair, I think. Maybe I shouldn’t think it is fair, but we’re talking about the use of time here so I need to make sure that it’s all clear and all that, or maybe I don’t. What I do need to make sure, however, is that the time I spend writing this is time spent creating something engaging, though of course I am ready to admit that I might be missing the mark entirely and instead of being productive, I am not and am wasting everyone’s time, including my own, but I hope that I am not as I don’t want to be doing that… at least, not right now.

Or do I? That is a mystery that shall never be revealed until I decide that, of all things being considered, it is time to reveal the mystery.

This felt like it took a lot of time to write. It also feels like dipping the toes into water and then going elsewhere.
