Morning River

About a month ago whilst walking to a train station I took this photo.

There were a few things I found appealing about it:

The low water level revealing a lot of the constructed riverbank bank and bed.

The rubbish that ends up in The Cooks River being apparent, yet somewhat-ambiguous.

The strong reflection on parts of the water.

The ibes feeding.

The way the light is cast on the area.

The great amount of vegetation in the area obscuring some of the more urban elements.

This is my submission into the seventieth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Monochrome“.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week is hosted by Patti and next week’s will be hosted by Leya.

I recommend checking out the challenge to see how people interpret each theme.
I also recommend giving it a go.

I hope you enjoy.

Party Looks

A shot of Quan Yeomans whilst Regurgitator was performing at The Metro last year.

I like how theatrical this image feels to me.

There’s something rather dramatic about it, I think.

I also think the image displays good, strong form and shape.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

The theme for this one is “Sport”.

As Regurgitator has stated, music is sport, so I feel the image fits.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

You can find the challenges here.

I hope you enjoy.

Pelican Waiting for a Catch

This was taken whilst waiting for a field trip to begin.

The pelican was waiting to see what the people fishing would catch, probably in the hopes that it would be fed. Considering how patient it was, it probably spends a bit of time in the area waiting for food.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Wednesday” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Sydenham Station at Night

I was on my way home from shooting a gig when I took this photo.

I don’t often find myself at train stations during the night anymore. There’s something that I find interesting about them in the darker hours of the day, so I utilised the opportunity.

This is a rather simple and flat photo, I think.
I like how the mix of light against the night works as, even though there aren’t many light sources and this clearly is nighttime, the photo is quite bright.

Still, only a few parts of the photo are highly visible as some details are still lost to the night.

I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 31: Ramble, then Customer Service Stuff

It’s not as early as the earliest I have written, but some might still consider this to be a pretty early time of the morning. It is before eight and after seven.

I’m trying to get myself to do this now before I wait any longer, as if I do spend more time relaxing, then I won’t get anything done and I’m trying to get back to a place where I’m actually doing stuff rather than doing nothing.

So it currently is the morning, I have my coffee and I’m sitting here. I’m thinking about the day ahead and wondering as to how I should proceed. I imagine that starting off with pointless waffle is not the best way to go about with a beginning if I’m looking for something with a bit of strength behind it, but… well, I’ve got no excuses this morning.

There’s a bit of study that needs to be gotten out of the way, and also a bit of writing of the critique variety (I’m being rather generous in what I refer to as a critique). There’s also the journey to and from work that I’ll need to undertake that needs to be factored into how I use the time of my day, but aside form all of that right now I’m just going to sit here within the confines of my room featuring a bed, in the hopes that the magic starts flowing.

However, aside form all of that, I’m just going to enjoy my coffee and resist all of the distractions I’ve set up for myself in the hopes that this does not take too long so I can get stuck into doing the other things that I’m looking to do.

Need to resist. Need to resist the urge to be distracted. Need to find something to talk about, but also need to resist my desire to wander off into some sort of fantasy land where I am in control of all that goes on, or at least firmly implanted within that world and in control of my actions, of which I am in the real world. However, in this fantasy land I’d either be a player, or the player. Not sure as to which yet. Need to resist that desire.

So I’m sitting here and resisting said urge so that I can keep on writing and I had something to write about, but that floated away from me so now I’m rambling for no real reason other than to try and save some face.

Coming up to Christmas and work is getting rather busy. To be fair, most of the year has been quite busy, but right now it’s really picking up steam. Strangely enough the customers seem less entitled than usual, which I guess means I’m being nicer to them, or something. Not really sure what it all means. What I do know is that it is busy enough to be tiring and it’s only going to get worse from here, so I need to capitalise on what time I have outside of work so that I get as much done. Doing so after a long shift is difficult, but it’s not something I cannot surmount.

What I have difficulty in surmounting is my allowing myself to continually be distracted by a whole bunch of different things, thus leading to my not getting things done, such as writing and photography and whatnot. I think at this point I’ve made that abundantly clear, so I think I’ll just stick to working on writing about work for the rest of this, as that is a much more important (well, not really) thing to write about.

So it is getting busier at work which means that the likelihood of higher stress levels across both customers and employees will increase quite a fair bit. It’s a busy time of the year and a lot of people make decisions too late. However, I need to stress that both sides do their best to remain calm and polite; especially customers.

I’ve said this before but it’s something that, unfortunately, cannot be said enough; customer service representatives are not punching bags. We’re here to do what we can and we do what we can.

Sometimes you will get someone with less experience than someone else, but that is not a reason to take out your stress and frustration on them. We are people, we exist and we too have mental capability.

It would be lovely for people to be kind to everyone coming into the busy period, but the likelihood of that happening is low and that really sucks. It also goes for customer service representatives toward customers, but I’m going to focus on customers here.

We understand that customers are likely feeling a lot of pressure in working out what to do and what to buy when it comes to obtaining gifts for either other people or themselves. We understand that  it may make customers irritable. However, customers need to understand that there is only so much customer service representatives (and managers) can do. We do have our limits and if something is past a cut-off point, then unfortunately that’s it.

If you find yourself in a position where you need to speak to customer service over the next few months, then please remember that who you are speaking to is also a person. It doesn’t matter if they’re in the same country as yourself, or if they are overseas; Whatever you’re feeling, they’re likely feeling it much worse as they would have been dealing with a large load of issues from different people throughout the day. It gets difficult to treat every call as though it’s your first call of the day when the customers aren’t listening and refusing to be informed. It also gets difficult if they are informed and decide to shit on you anyway.

Please be kind to customer service representatives. Often the job is stressful on what is considered a good day.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 18:13:94

I think I was thinking too much whilst I was writing, but it did lead to a bit more focus toward the end.

That’s what I’m going with.

Written at home.

Two Humpbacks

Two humpbacks as seen outside of and near Sydney Harbour.

I believe the suburb in the background is Manly.

I like that due to not being able to see the entirety of these wonderful creatures, the mind can wander about how they appear. Of course many people know what a whale looks like, but details can be lost when summoning the image of one in your mind.

I also like how little they appear to be disturbing the water around them. There is some disturbance, but here it’s not as much compared to disturbance related to the act of breaching.

This is my submission into the sixty-ninth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Seeing Double“.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week is hosted by Tina and next week’s will be hosted by Patti.

I recommend checking out the challenge to see how people interpret each theme.
I also recommend giving it a go.

A Sunny Morning at Circular Quay

This was taken shortly before going on the whale watching field trip.

This shot holds a few “Layers” of buildings, but only when looking over the image in a certain way, I think.

The clear sky helps reduce the potential for the buildings to appear harsh, and overall the image as a relaxed feel.

This is my submission into the sixty-eighth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Bare Island in Monochrome

I recently found myself in La Perouse for the first time in a while due to the need to participate in a field trip. I arrived early so I took a number of photos.

I feel as though this one is much better than the one I shared last year.

The light is better balanced and the island feels larger and more present, I think.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

The theme for this one is “Iconic”.

Bare Island isn’t as iconic as The Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Sydney Opera House, or the Centrepoint tower, but it does hold some historical significance for Sydney.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

You can find the challenges here.

I hope you enjoy.

Evening Commute

This was taken whilst heading into the city on the same night I saw the fire juggler.

It had been a long time since I had seen a part of a train this empty.

There’s not much to say about this shot; at least from my point of view.

I think that it may say something, but overall I just like the lack of people in the scene.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Wednesday” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 601: Sleep Right Now

Breakfast was something that I found most delectable, but it was a bad idea as it was not what someone would consider healthy by any stretch of the imagination.

I should be careful in saying that as I will be proven incorrect in my assumption, I imagine.

Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. Maybe not ever. However, eventually it will happen, as far as I’m aware.

At least for now I can sit here and be content in my thoughts, hoping that they will keep me going through the remaining few hours of this shift of work.

Not enough sleep, too much work,.

Photographed a gig last night. Some photos will go up somewhere over the next few days. That is what I hope, anyway.

I guess that in order to make sure that that happens, I need to do my thing and process them so that they are presentable to a larger audience. However, I think I may have taken far too many.

I think that, although it is not necessarily the case. I imagine that on any given night, people who shoot gigs for a living take far more than I did.

I took somewhere around eight-hundred. I’m trying to get my shooting amount back down to somewhere around three-hundred at the most, which still seems to me like an unnecessarily large amount when taking into consideration the gigs I’m shooting.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but right now I don’t know. What I do know is that I desire rest. I desire sleep and being at work is actively preventing access to that sleep that I so very much want.

However, I doubt that I will still want it as much as I do now when I approach, or even enter the region known as “home”. There will be other things that I need to do and needing to do them is what I’ll… something.

Anyway, sleep. Sleep is what I want. I want sleep right now.

Wait; I don’t want to sleep right now. Right now I just want to go home and escape the consequences of what I ate this morning. Probably worse things in the world, but right now it is THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE SAID THAT WILL MAKE ME CHANGE MY VIEW! Well, aside from the multitude of things that exist out there that can easily make me change my mind. Other than those, nothing will make me change my mind.

But of course all I’m doing right now is rambling about choices I’ve made in order to keep on surviving… I think.

Anyway, this hasn’t really been about anything and as it has no substance I’m going to look for an exit. I’m not sure as to where it lies, but so long as I keep on searching I’m sure I will find it at the end of the search, unless I decide to keep on searching afterwards.

I probably won’t, however.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:27:06

I wrote this on Saturday. Not sure why I didn’t put it up then.

Not anything exciting, but might be one of the more structurally sound things I’ve written.

Not definitely. Only might be.

Written at work.
