Berrys Bay on an Overcast Day

I thought I had shared a photo of Berrys Bay in the past, but it does not seem to be the case; at least not here anyway.

This place is mostly the same since I first walked past here.

The biggest change is the city’s appearance.

I think that, whilst in parts the scene is busy, overall this is just a pleasant view.

More so after walking for a while and coming out to the open area of which this is a part.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 601: Follow Your Feet

Sometimes when you stand somewhere and you look out, you think about all the time that you’ve spent staring out into nothingness in front of a beautiful scene, and that in a way is also beautiful.

Sometimes you don’t think about that and you just appreciate the beauty of the world before you move onto something else.

You need to follow your feet and see where they take you, if they are indeed taking you anywhere at all. If they aren’t taking you anywhere, well, that’s also fine. Just so long as in any given moment where you are moving, you are indeed moving and not saying otherwise, I think.

I don’t know where I’m going with this, but bear with me. I’m sure I will reach some sort of realisation before the end of this.

The smell of the bushland is enticing, despite what some may say. It is the smell of being away from the city, but you can’t always have it, even if you are indeed in the bush. It just isn’t always there, so you need to keep your eyes open also and see where yo-u are going. If you are in the bush and you can’t smell it, that doesn’t mean you are not in the bush.

There are, of course, other things to consider. What can you hear? What can you sense?

What is the point of all of this?

It certainly isn’t to be blunt, although that may be the subtle message, or something. Not entirely sure yet, but I’m sure that in time it will reveal itself.

So you move through the bushland, appreciate the beauty and and the sublime nature of things and you see it all and just absorb the whole being in the midst of it all and being present, as nature, whilst it just is, is still a beautiful thing to be among. It is so much more alive in appearance and feel than what we consider as being alive, and that in itself is appreciable, I think.

But it is also something tat we need to respect as much as we can, for if we don’t, then eventually we won’t have enough of it left.

There are plenty of ways in which we can appreciate and experience a more natural-appearing region, and we all should, where we can.

We can experience it with various senses and we can allow our feet to carry us there. We can allow many forms of motion to take us there and in doing so we can experience it. We can experience it and think about all the scenes we’ve seen and all the memories we’ve had among nature, both good and bad, and we can see things that normally we aren’t able to see.

I don’t know as to how many other ways I can say nature is a beautiful thing, so I’ll just try and wrap this up by saying that nature is beautiful and worth being among where possible.

A Resting Cat

A cat is in this photo.

It has been a while since I last had a pet, so instead here is someone else’s.

This was taken some time last year whilst walking around Redfern.

I saw this cat, so I took a photo of it.

I really like how this photo turned out.

The background is dark and out  of focus enough to keep the attention on the cat.

The cat itself looks rather peaceful in its rest.

This is my submission into The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme this week is “Precious Pets“.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week is hosted by Tina and next week’s will be hosted by Patti.

I recommend checking out the challenge to see how people interpret each theme.
I also recommend giving it a go.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 600: Not too Much Consumption

I probably should’ve started writing earlier in the day, but if I don’t start writing now then I probably won’t write anything at all and then that is another day down the proverbial gurgler, which is something that I want to avoid, but there are too many ways I’m allowing myself to become distracted, so so long as I start now and get writing of the most preliminary form out of the way, then I should be able to get a “roll” on and thus get to writing other things, such as fairly overdue reviews and whatnot, which need my serious attention at this point which is something that I’ve not been giving them. hence the predicament of having them overdue and hence the need to get with the writing which is something that I should’ve started about four or five hours ago, but did not happen as there were things to take care of, such as the watching of the meaningless things and the gaming of the games of video, and the drinking of more coffee than necessary and the consumption of the necessary delectables that constitute an entirety of a breakfast that was needed as consumption as I was going to get hungry, but I wasn’t quite able to avoid the hunger as much as I had hoped and now I’m feeling hungrier than I hoped, therefore requiring even more consumption of other delectables, almost as though it is a vicious cycle required to perpetuate my being alive into my reality, as the body needs energy and a lot of that energy is acquired through consuming food, which is something that I should repeat doing soon, but not too much as I should only eat what I need and nothing more, lest I then put myself into a position where I’m eating far more than I need to, unless it is not far more and only a little bit more in which case it doesn’t matter, as eating too much for what is required is probably a bad thing to do and we all want to avoid doing bad things, but sometimes a bad thing must be done, but only in certain circumstances, such as when the whole fate of the world hangs in the balance and the only way to preserve the beauty and the nature of everything that is worth treasuring is to do something that could be considered unsavory, in which case it is a better thing to do a bad thing than a good thing which I guess means that the good thing is the bad thing and the bad thing is the good thing, leading to some sort of morally ambiguous area in which you’d need to inhabit in order to do whatever it is that you need to do, lest you are not one to do it and instead passing the buck in order to do something else, such as being responsible for your actions and getting to the end of this.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:25:18

Well, that is a rather lengthy sentence.

Really is the writing kick-starter of what is now the afternoon, but I’m somewhat-happy with the result.

The good thing is I didn’t feel like I need to stretch to write this.

The downside is that, as always, it could’ve been better.

Written at home.

From Bush to Buildings

What I like about this photo is how parts of the background are covered, yet strongly suggested.

To be fair, it’s mostly water, but I do like the effect.

The clouds appear massive and the city small.

The plants are not quite vibrant, but rather striking in their contrast against the urban landscape.

I also like how far from the main part of Sydney CBD the Sydney Harbour Bridge appears.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

The theme for this one is “Bridges”.

Whilst not the most prominent feature of the photo, I think the Sydney Harbour Bridge makes this photo count.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 599: Cake of the Pan

Today is Sunday. This is not the day of the sun, although I have my suspicions. That may not necessarily be a good thing, but it may not be a bad thing either.

At the end of the day, it is just a thing.

Now, as I sit here and await my fate, I think about how The Flaming Lips are a band. I think about how they’ve produced a lot of music.

This morning has been spent listening to a lot of The Flaming Lips. However, I must be specific: It has been a morning spent listening predominantly to two of their songs on repeat; “Look… The Sun is Rising” and “Always there in Our Hearts”. Both of these are from The Terror, which might be my favourite album that The Flaming Lips have produced.

Not entirely sure why as There are songs (and albums) of theirs that I like more. However, overall I find The Terror more of a satisfying listen. I think.

Now I’m not too sure, but I’m sure that one day I will be.

Anyway, it has been a long morning thus far and I am here at work, but I’m still listening to The Flaming Lips.

Waking up earlier than necessary still remains something that I wish I did not do, but such is life and you need to make the most of your hours awake in order to make the most of your hours awake.

I think that gets the point across, but I still remain unsure as to how succinct it is to say that, as it may not be as succinct as I would hope.

Well, there’s still hope that it remains succinct.

There is always hope, but if you do not hope and take action, then all you are doing is hoping.

Well, I guess it depends on the situation. There are times when hoping is all that you can do. If that is the case, then just hoping is probably the best thing that you can do. Therefore, you best be hoping that hoping is the best thing you can do if it’s the only thing you can do. Otherwise, it may  be better to find yourself in a better situation than the one you have managed to find yourself within.

Of course, there are other situations out there, but right now I am tired and I don’t want to be at work. I would much rather whinge about this fact. I’d much rather spend time writing about other stuff, but I need to get back into shape and get all the waffle out, lest I make pancakes.

Now that I think about it, I’d much rather the cake of the pan, over the object known as a “waffle”. What does one do with this foreign object? This is a thing that is rather difficult to understand, and there are not enough words left in the day.

Well, there probably are, but I’d rather think about it another day.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:57:13

So I think I was going somewhere with this before I decided to veer away as quickly as I could; hence the result.

Written at work.

A Special View

This is view I’ve spent a good bit of time seeing.

This particular spot in Sydney is special to me. It’s a spot I’ve spent a lot of time staring out from with a close friend.

We’ve seen heavy clouds roll in from the distance, preparing to release their contents upon all that was beneath them.

The view has slightly changed, but the area remains a place I find special.

This is my submission into The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 598: Morning of the Work Day

And so the morning of the work day begins and already I’m trying to get away as soon as I can, but of course I am chained here until I can get out.

Too long I’ve been underground and without a window, and too long I’ve had nothing but lights to illuminate my desk at work.

I miss the natural light but alas, it is not to be at the moment, for the powers that be don’t understand and don’t want to see the science behind having natural light leading to a better workforce.

I kind of tried. Probably could’ve tried harder, but that was not to be and now I am here, writing my grievances and throwing them into the abyss, as it were.

The rain falls and waters the plants and I am here, dry and preparing to take an onslaught of calls from people who don’t understand how foolish they sound and how foolish they are.

Well, maybe they do, and perhaps there are plenty of them out there who are significantly smarter than I believe, but that is another story for a day that will not come, unless I allow it to arrive and finally sink my teeth into that beast of a topic that I wish was a beast of a topic, but is not really. It’s more well-trodden ground and I would be there trying to flatten it even more so that it has no chance to be revisited. Of course, in a few years after the fact I would revisit it, forgetting that I ever tackled the thing in the first place.

What else can I say about the topic at hand other than it is indeed a topic and not at my foot? What else can I say outside of something that clearly expresses a desire to keep on doing the things that I want to do, and catch up on all that that I have missed out on?

Well, there is always time and to comes down to the best application of it. If applied well, then I’m sure I’d have all of the time in the entirety of the planet on which we live in order to do all of the things that I want to do, or have missed out on doing. There is always time, and more of it, but the thing that needs to be remembered is that the reality is you only have time and you don’t get it back, so the more you capitalise on what you have, the better use of it you are making.

Of course there needs to be time for downtime, but too much of it is a waste, just like anything else really, so you need to remember that it is best to do a lot and not much in careful balance so that yo-u are always doing the most with what you have.

Also don’t eat more than you need to, unless required, but only if it is required.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:13:33

Sometimes there is a logical flow to these, and sometimes there is no logical flow.

This falls under the latter.

I think I got some stuff across but the whole thing is too entrenched in reality.

Written at work.

Aloft and Descending

An ibis caught as it makes its way back to a hard surface.

This was a lucky shot. I was in an area of a park where birds flock and looking in the right direction at the right moment.

As it came to land, the ibis’ movement was graceful in a way that only birds are able to be.

If you want this image, it is available as a print.

Moving Toward Evening at Central’s Tracks

I took this photo in the first half of last year.

Not sure why I didn’t put it anywhere.

I think the muted colour helps to get the idea of the transition to evening, but I think I went too heavy on the shadows.

This was taken not too long after getting the 5dMarkIV and I think it shows.

Overall the photo works, but at the time I was learning what I could and couldn’t do working with a RAW shot from a full frame camera. I still am, but I know more than I did last year.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

The theme for this one is “Leading Lines”.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.
