Five-Hundred Word Challenge 353: Strong Desire to Write

I’m sitting here with a strong desire to write and yet I have nowhere to start.

I also want to see if I can finish this in under five minutes and keep this coherent, but again I am really not sure as to what it is that I want to write.

I could just sit here and write about not knowing what to write, but there is a good possibility that I have done that a little too much in recent times.

Of course, when I see recent times I mean over the last few years.

Yes. That works as a good cover. I think I shall use that as my excuse.

I really am picking away at something inside my head but there is nothing revealing itself and that is not a bad thing.

Maybe it is a sign that I need to make sure that I get more sleep than I usually have been over the past few days.

I don’t know.

I am thinking a fair bit about what I have done up until this point in my life and am pointlessly wondering if I have achieved anything.

I probably have done a lot more than I would like to let myself believe, but that really is another train of thought for another day.

It is a little cool in the office, but that’s fain. It’s probably a little humid outside.

Who knows?

I guess people outside would know.

Right now I do not know as I am not outside.

However, one day, one hour, eventually and soon I will know as I will be outside, continuing my journey through space and time in a form that involves motion generated by putting one foot in front of the other in order to walk forward, which is the direction in which I would most preferably travel, instead of backward as I would not be able to see where I would be walking if backward is the direction in which I walked.,

No, forward is the best way for me to walk in this case as at least I will not be endangering myself.

Actually, that is not quite the case. It would be fair to say that I would be endangering myself far less than if I was walking backward.

Soon I will be outside and the next phase of the day will begin for me.

I will be out there, among the world that’s outside of this office, doing things and seeing people and saying things and thinking about food and the rest of the time of the day that exists for me to spend.

Will I spend it wisely? Will I be lazy and falter at everything that I should not be faltering in?

I do not know. I do know that here I am, sitting, trying to think of something good to write and not coming up with anything at  all.

Well, here are a few words for you to read now. Here you go.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:01:35

I’m probably a bit stretched at the moment.

Written at work.

Tall at the Quay

I caught the ferry to Balmain during my small trek on Tuesday.

Decided to take a few photos whilst on the ferry, such as the one here being presented to you all.

I’m not sure as to what I was aiming for when I took this photo, but I do like the way the roof of the ferry frames the buildings.

I like that some of the buildings seem to be leaning toward the centre of the photo and some seem to be leaning backwards, as well as the way the sky seems to spread out from somewhere behind the buildings.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 352: Spending Life on Hold

So much noise, so much wind.

Inside I know that there is wind outside. I cannot feel it, but I can see its effects.

Inside I can listen to the sound of people talking to other people. Voices bend into each other and form some sort of sound that is currently existing as the background soundtrack to my life in these moments that I am currently living.

I’m sure that when I am outside the soundtrack will change to something else. Perhaps it won’t. I doubt that it will remain the same, but you never know with these things.

Where am I going? Why am I inside? Why would I be outside? Where is the exit to the thing that I am trying to find?

Am I trying to find something or am I spending some of the words here writing things that have no real connection to something else in this current moment?

I have spent a significant portion of the working day on hold. So much of my life today has been spent listening to hold music.

“welcome to this department, please hold whilst we transfer you through to another department.”

“Okay.”

Bam, back to being on hold. So much hold music, so much hold.

Maybe I could make a career out of being on hold. Write about the adventures and review the hold practices and music that each place has. This seems to be an untapped market.

I could really revolutionise business operations if I do this. The idea is now mine. IT does not belong to anyone else.

I am going to do this using a lot of elbow grease and an even larger amount of whimsy.

Yes, whimsy shall be the force of driving in this fruitful endeavour that covers many things, including LIFE and its many forms of knowing and unknowing in the showing of the going.

But how to start? How would I start? Where would I know where to start?

I guess the beginning is the best place to start, for then I can develop things. Rather be at the end though.

Of course this will mean that I will have to go on hold for a while in order to speak to someone at the other end of the line who would then instruct me in the best way to proceed, so long as it did not involve some sort of duck quackery, for that would be almost as foolish as many of the things that I write about and that is not something that we can have at the moment. It would not do.

I guess then I’d have to hold to find out why the suggestions were of an absurd nature. Not sure as to how far that would get me. Would need to hold again.

I hope that at my funeral they tell everyone to “please hold” and play a rotation of one particular Bernard Fanning song and one particular Pete Murray song.

Which ones? I won’t say!

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:44:60

A lot of my life has been spent on hold.

How odd.

Written at work.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 351: Flowing Thoughts in a Rush

What am I doing here today, on the day of all days?

There is some volunteer work that needed to be done. That is something that was done today that needed to be done.

For now the gloves are on and it is time to get ready for the incoming deluge of all that is and won’t be at once, forming some sort of thing that forms the thing that which is what is it in order to be the best that it cannot be, for sometimes you need to be good at what you’re bad at in order to give yourself a little bit more of a balance.

I am siting here in the dark. there is exactly one other person in the room here with me.

I don’t know what to do. I should be doing my uni work right now, but is there really time to do the thing when there is other things to be done, such as write out whatever it is that I am writing wright now and getting somewhere that is nowhere and yet somewhere else but extrapolating my thoughts from my mind and letting them flow there into the thing that I am doing right now?

Perhaps I really should focus on the uni work. It is pretty important to get out of the way. It is more important than doing what I am doing right now. I need to admit that to myself, but I need water and as I sit here with my legs partially crossed, I can’t help but wonder as to what lies over the edge of my field of vision, for the road is long and the sun is dry and the expanse is vast. A flat plain expands around me and I am lacking in the juice of orange that would help  me feel refreshed. There is only chocolate but the chocolate is in my face and around the corner for every bite takes me a little bit closer to that sweet spot of sustenance and tasty abbreviation on the collapsing pipeline of the fancy pants dance throwing the lance.

I think that I am entering a trance.

Perhaps I just need some sort of tea but that would require getting up and facing the world without greeting it and that is not something that needs to be done right now, for it would causes problems and I would then have to turn the crank up to eleven whilst eating the nose and then after the gentleman has tipped their hat verily so in my general direction, I need to take three steps back whilst riding an axolotl into the sunrise as whilst the sun is rising it can be walked to. Need to get there before it leaves the surface, for I am not the best at jumping, but not the worst, but it is likely that it would rise a little too high for me to be able to reach it with some ease.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:57:87

Well, I managed to get under five minutes.

It took a lot of partially nonsensical writing to get under five minutes.

HOORAY!

Jervis Bay in the Morning

Here’s a photo taken whilst at Huskisson Beach on the last day of the marine science field trip.

I think that the way that all the objects in this photo sit together combine to form a “Serene” image.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Erosion on the Cliff Top

Great patterns that look as they are a flow appear to move on down the rock as the ocean spreads out as far as the eye can see.

I really like the pattern and detail on the cliff top in this photo. It seems really intricate and contrasts well with the ocean, I think.

This is my submission into  Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

If you’re a fan of monochrome photography on any level, then I recommend checking out Monochrome Madness and I also recommend considering submitting if you do photography.

I also recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s work outside of Monochrome Madness.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Looming Behind

I went for a bit of a walk yesterday.

During the walk I stopped at Pyrmont and walked to this place to take some photos.

It had been the first time in a while that I was there, although earlier in the year was not that long ago.

I like that the apartments look like a model in this photo and I like the way that Anzac Bridge seems to dominate the photo.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 350: Lizards are Awesome

I have to get this written really quickly as there is someone waiting for me so we can go into the lizard lab and  look at lizards for a while.

Yes. I volunteer at uni.

Lizards are awesome.

Do you know what lizards are capable of? Do you?

Lizards can shoot stuff out of their eyes and climb buildings when they are not busy reshaping the way that we think about the world using their powers of the mind over us in order to get the best coffee available to the humble fly of destiny.

Sometimes lizards wear suits.

Being related to chickens, their mouth bite potential is really high as that means they are also related to sharks.

I once saw a lizard take on a face on a wall and the wall collapsed out of the sheer terror that it had to face in order to be able to stand in front of the lizard.

There was one time that a lizard decided that it was not going to be a lizard for a while. Then it decided to be a lizard again.

Lizards can hit you so hard that you do not know what hit you. You will be so knocked out that you’ll realise the awesome powers of lizards in a nutshell riding the wave organ majestic shoehorn of the oboe-inspired future.

When there are many lizards, there are more lizards than if there was one lizard in an area.

Lizards sit in the sun not because they are cold-blooded, but to spite the sun just because they can. There are no ill feelings toward the sun, but a lizard just does it because it is better than the sun.

In fact, it might be possible that thew sun is made out of many lizards continually wiggling their tails and legs in order to generate a mass amount of energy concentrated in one spot, therefore leading to the massive amount of heat that we perceive as being a thing burning in space. The sun will go supernova once the lizards decided that it is best to stop and disperse away from each other.

When the lizards do the thing, you know that it is a thing that will be done. That is how lizards operate, and so will you know that lizards are reptiles.

Lizards do not rule the world, but maybe one day the will once more. That is the way of things.

If lizards were a meat, they would be melon.

Lizards are cute and cool and can do many a thing that people cannot do, but they will always be humble for they know that there is only one way and that is to catch the almighty banana as the janitor shoots the eyes and winks at in the correct pattern to indicate that you know the way forward in order to let you into the super secret jazz club where you shall meet a dramatic event flying through the precipice of time.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:31:83

Well that was fast.

Could be much better, but I’m pretty satisfied with the result.

Motorway Construction

There used to be a lot of abandoned train tracks put through here, but now there is a massive motorway being developed.

It would seem that few people want it as it will probably increase traffic congestion.

Working on having public transport improved and more viable is a better choice in the long term.

Anyway…

Despite the results, construction can be an interesting process to witness. We see things change and reshape.

I like the contrast between the clouds and the land. I also like that the C.B.D. is visible in the distance.

The area in this photo feels very open to me.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 349: You Sound Like one of those Eggheads in Science

Yesterday whilst I was at work there was a conversation about global warming.

At this point in time I’m a little tapped out as I’ve been hearing about climate change going too fast for a few too many semesters.

I know the impacts. I know that things need to change regardless of where your beliefs lie. Give me a bit of a reprieve.

Anyway, so there was a conversation about this and clean coal came up. The person who was explaining how clean coal works tried to say something about how the CO2 is removed in the process.

I told him that you can’t really remove it, to which I was cut off and told “You sound like one of those eggheads in science.” Might not be the exact phrasing, but it is pretty close.

Now I don’t understand as to what is wrong with sounding like a scientist.
Nor do I understand as to why scientists are not trusted unless it is convenient.

You know, there’s nothing wrong with doing a bit of research and actually having an informed view of the world that doesn’t just follow your whimsical view of the world that you really want to hold on to regardless of what challenges that. You can still have a bit of whimsy in your life. There’s nothing wrong with whimsy. There is a problem with being an idiot.

It’s like how the anti-vaccination people don’t do the research because they think they know what is best. Suddenly their kids start getting illnesses that should be considered a rarity and some of these people then go see a doctor and get their kids vaccinated.

I recently read part of an article about how some person changed their views when their kids got sick. They thought that they were smarter than people who followed the advice of doctors. This person has also said that herd mentality allowed them to ignore the advice of doctors, the people who you would expect to be trained in what to do and kept up to date with what the most accurate research is.

Herd mentality is certainly a bad thing in a lot of ways, but it is not a justification for your idiocy.

Scientists get a bad rap unless it is convenient. Science changes. Clean coal is not a real thing and if you think that being disparaging toward someone because you think that the best thing to do is not think or do research, then you need to stop talking.

Reading online conjecture and a paper or two that keep on getting knocked back and successfully challenged, or following the word of some celebrities does not make you informed. Following the research, including that which you may not agree with and keeping an open mind when it comes to your views quite possibly being challenged does make you informed.

There is no need to keep your head in the sand and refuse to listen when your uninformed belief is openly challenged.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 14:42:41

Slow, but I think I got my point across.

Written at home.
