Well, I am back from doing field work with turtles on an island, which was a rather satisfactory experience, I must say.
Much work at night, little sleep, plenty of activities, some lectures, some presentations, walking, turtles, walking, turtlwes, walkgin, sprained wrist, photos, working, walking, working, turtles, turltes, and turtes.
There was one point where a turtle was charging at me. It was rather scary.
Well, it was moving toward me as it was going down the beach and I had no idea as to what I should do as I had never been in that situation before. I was able to roll out of the way, thankfully.
It was some hard work but that was part of what made the time I was working on turtles enjoyable.
There was one point where I had to sit in the slope of a sand dune whilst a thunderstorm passed over. There was a turtle next to us filling in its nest. The person closest to the nest had to deal with sand being thrown on them whilst it was storming. Then the turtle left and shortly after the rain stopped.
Then it was humid and many of us were eaten alive by the mosquitoes that were quite happy to dance in the humidity.
I don’t really know what else to say.
I do have a fair bit of sleep to catch up on, but that can happen over the next few days, thankfully.
I’m kind of glad to be back, but at the same time I could have been working on the turtles for a few more weeks.
It was a real learning experience. A lot of work was done.
I got to see hatchlings.
Unfortuantely I had to put up with a child who thought it woudl be a good diea to tell me how I was feeling,a as well as belittle me for no reason whatsoevere. REminds me as to why I really love people.
I need to remember that it is okay to get shitty at someone as they took a call. I need to also remembver that it is okay to tell someone that they aren’t enjoying themselves as they’re reading and wanting a little bit of quiet instead of being loud and inane.
Apparently there’s something wrong with that.
Apparently there’s something wrong with being dispassionate, or stoic, or calm, or whatever other descriptive work you want to use to describe someone who doesn’t feel a need to overly express themselves all the time.
I guess that justifies plenty of eye-rolling and getting shitty for no reason because you think that someone should help so you tell them to do so rather than ask whilst you yourself spend plenty of time doing little whilst talking a whole lot of empty, vapid bullshit.
Someone else told me as an observation that they thought I may not have been, but I was hard to read. Perhaps people don’t like that. Who knows?
I digress.
The field trip was enjoyable. I’m hoping to head out again as a volunteer as I would gladly go back out and spend time doing what needed to be done.
There will be a fairly large amount of photos that will be processed that I will be sharing over the next few weeks. Hopefully I get them done sooner rather than later.
The trip was definitely worth the time and effort.
