Five-Hundred Word Challenge 308: Another Field Trip

Well, if you’re reading this, then it means that I have written what you are reading.

It also means that I am currently on the last day of the second field trip of this semester that I must complete for my studies, but this time it is a field trip that is more directly related to what it is that I want to do once I have finished with the lengthy and arduous education that I am undertaking.

It is one of many a day and one where I will sleep in a tent each night of the field trip.

I am only looking forward to the field trip to an extent right now.

However, when this goes up it will be the last day of the field trip. A few hours after this has reached your eyes, it is likely that I will be heading home.

For those who read this well after it has been uploaded, then it is likely that I am already home or somewhere else other than home.

I’m sure that I will have had some sort of fun, but right now I do not feel as though I will.

Such is life.

I would rather be at home, working on other things.

Of course they can wait, but they are still things that I’d prefer to invest my time in, despite them not being things that I need to do in order to further my university education.

Well, at least on the field trip there will be whale watching.

Of course when I say that I mean on a boat.

There will be no approaching of the whales whilst both they and I are underwater at the same time in order for me to watch them do whatever it is that whales do when they are not watched by people.

I imagine it is as exciting as something that may not necessarily be exciting.

There will also be a lot of research.

There will definitely be swimming. If there’s anything that I am looking forward to in particular, it is the swimming as I’ll be able to hit the waves each morning before breakfast and hopefully after research.

It will be interesting to see how I feel about the field trip once I return, but right now the feeling is not one of excitement.

I probably will be really happy with how it turns out.

Probably.

Well, with that being said, I guess that I will write about how the field trip was once I get back.

Until then, this is something that you are reading that I wrote in advance. It is not something that was the greatest bit of text I’ve ever written, but it was a slice of life strung together by a series of thought that I had that were probably not worth presenting.

Oh well.

On the plus side, this field trip will lead to plenty of photos taken.

Plenty of photos, and hopefully plenty of opportunities to swim.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:42:42

There has been a bit too much writing in one day for me.

I imagine that one day this will not be too much writing at all.

Written at home.

Sunset Reaches Through the Clouds

On Saturday, whilst heading to see Who is Mordechai Waterview? (it was showing as part of Sydney Fringe Festival) I had to walk through Sydney Park which allowed me the opportunity to get a few photos of the amazing sunset.

I think that the way the colour gradually shifts among the varying types of clouds is gorgeous.

I like the way that the clouds dominate this bit of sky and sit above the land as the evening approaches.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 307: My Fan Sounds like it is Wobbling

I can hear my fan sounding like it’s wobbling, sort of.

As it rotates, it very briefly makes a sound as though it is slightly off of a central axis and it is rather annoying. However,  am choosing to do nothing about it as I’d rather sit here, sweating away and get annoyed at the sound as it seems more productive to not switch it off as that would mean that I’d have to stop doing whatever it is that I’m doing and I’d rather not stop, for I am on a roll and I want to keep that roll up as I know that if I stop I will slow right down and that is the end of my roll, therefore leading to me requiring to gain more momentum and I would never be able to get the momentum that I once had as if I had continued instead of stopping, the momentum at that given point would be far greater as the momentum can only continue to increase as we all know it never slows down and that is a true fact.

Perhaps I should stop though and give myself a bit of a rest. However, if I do that, then I may rest far too much which would lead to me going into some sort of panic, therefore causing me to stop entirely instead of picking up the pieces of my inevitable downfall, wondering where it all went wrong when I would also know quite well where it went wrong.

It went wrong when I decided to decide to have a break instead of continue through, therefore leading to the result of having far too much of a break that would lead to my panicking which would then lead to not getting anything done.

It’s a dangerous game that I play, but it is one that must be played.

There is no prize and everyone loses!

However, I will find a way out of this.

Will I though?

Perhaps I won’t.

Well, there’s nothing wrong with everyone losing, for even if you learn something from that failure, then there is still a form of success, possibly due to the realisation that failure does not necessarily mean that you do not gain anything.

Indeed, we most likely learn the most from being wrong, making mistakes and failing rather than success.

Well, we also learn a lot from reading and being taught things by others, but most certainly a lot of learning must come from things that we do not expect to teach us anything.

Still, there are times when nothing happens.

I don’t know as to where I was going with that sentence.

Perhaps I really should rest at this point, but I’m on a roll, so I think that I’ll continue on until I decide not to, which may just very well be sooner than tomorrow, as well as sooner than a few hours from now.

Perhaps it is just right around the corner.

Perhaps it isn’t.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:41:05

Another fast write.

I’m not sure if this was a thought experiment or not, but it certainly was an exercise of sorts.

As I was writing I hoped that I would once more go for a continuous sentence, but that did not happen.

Written at home.

Blow Your Trumpet Gabriel

On the first day of the field trip two weekends ago whilst we were stopped at some place for lunch I went for a bit of a wander.

Not far from the place I came across two witches hats and decided to have a bit of fun.

First there were photos with one witches hat.
Then I had the idea to pretend one was a trumpet.

I like that this is a ridiculous, almost absurd photo, but I also like how well the colours are balanced.

I also like the balance of light, as to me it seems that it’s not too bright or dark.

Despite the ridiculous nature, I think that this is one of the better photos I’ve taken.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 306: Trapped in a Room

It was hot in that room.

That room?

It was not just any old room. It was a room that was containing far more heat than it usually would.

Inside the room was a person, thinking of how to get out. It had been a nice cool season until one particular day when, instead of the usual gradual shift into a warmer climate, the temperature went straight to hot without any form of warning.

For had the room the time to adjust, it would have remained cool.
However, in this instance due to the temperature undergoing a sudden shift rather than a gradual escalation, the heat had wormed its way through the cracks and beaten the insulation, trapping itself inside and creating a place where you would go to sweat.

The person had been staring at the walls and the ceiling, hoping for some sort of palpable change. There was none to come for a long time and the only two options they had were to deal with it or find a way out.

They did not want to deal with the heat, preferring to once more experience the coolness outside, but they knew not the way out. It had eluded them for many a year and they remained mystified by how to move beyond the walls and beyond the ceiling into a world that was growing more and more unfamiliar to them.

They had tried many a time to get out and each time failed. They learned a great deal about waiting and the art of the inner monologue, but they had not learned how to once more have their freedom.

Freedom had been taken away. They did not know if it was a willing decision or not, for they could no longer remember. They just knew that they had gained more knowledge about something that once was and knew not what is.

Still they persisted, for they knew that there was no point in giving up as there was always a chance in their situation.

Still, with the heat inside, refusing to let go, continually clawing at their body, the person decided that enough was enough. Now was the time to get out, so get out they did.

They got out for their seat and walked toward markings that seemed to resemble a door carved into a wall. This was something that they had examined many a time, yet never knew how to open it.

Perhaps now that the conditions had changed, so to a way to open the part that looked like a door, assuming that it was indeed a door to begin with.

They pressed against it and so it seemed that they were correct.

The person was elated. Finally they would be able to step through and see the outside world once more.

The door swung open and the person ran through.

However, they only found themselves once more in the room, for the door could only lead back to where the person had begun.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:45:04

Well that was unexpected.

Probably one of the better things that I’ve written if only for the reduced amount of repeating.

Written at home.

Mouth of the Minnamurra River

I think that this was the last photo I took whilst on the field trip two weekends ago.

Here we see part of the mouth of the Minnamurra River, taken as a quick long exposure.

A flow smooth in appearance that almost seems to be getting cut through, showing both stillness and motion.

It’s not quite minimal, but it also isn’t full of detail.

I hope you enjoy.

On the Same Sex Marriage Plebiscite

Recently the vote form for the same sex marriage plebiscite commenced the process of being sent out to everyone.

It’s stupid.

It’s stupid because it’s a waste of everyone’s time and the government doesn’t necessarily have to act out on the wishes of the majority.

Well, it’s good if the majority says no and same sex marriage does become possible in Australia, or if the majority does say yes and then the government honours the desire of the Australian people, but somehow I don’t see that being the outcome.

I think that it’s lead to some of the shitty self-righteousness of some people come out in full force.

I don’t know if I’m the only one who is noticing this, but there seems to be a large number of straight people coming out and talking about how they’ve voted yes or that they’re going to vote yes like they need to remind everyone that they’re progressive and have no issues with gay people.

To me it seems like some sort of giant pissing contest that reminds me of general elections a little too much.

It also seems like a whole lot of people don’t care about whether same sex marriage is legal or not, instead seeming to only care about how letting people know that they voted yes makes them look.

It really doesn’t feel like a lot of people are treating it as though they are voting to give someone else a benefit that they gain nothing from.

Who needs to know that you voted yes?

Why are you telling people?

Does it really matter that much that you make sure as many people you know know you voted in the affirmative?

There’s no issue with marriage.

What’s wrong with people getting married?

There’s nothing wrong with marriage at all. Why do people have a problem with people getting married?

They’re gay?

Why does it matter that they’re gay? Why does it matter that people who are into the same sex may want to choose to get married with another consenting adult?

They’re just people getting married. Their sexual orientation shouldn’t matter.

People talking about their voting for the affirmative in a vote that is non-binding seem like they’re in it for themselves. I bet they’d vote against if it made them look good.

Flowering Plant

During the field trip that ended last weekend I took  this photo of a plant that was flowering.

I like that there’s a strong sense of progress in the plant here due to being able to see it in two different stages.

I also like how strong the red comes through and how the light falls on the plant.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 305: Procrastinating the Day Away

There is a sterile sound around me right now.

The air feels as still as the sound sounds sterile.

I am in a library sitting here. I am meant to be studying so I have some stuff to take with me on a field trip that begins tomorrow.

The study is required as we have to write an essay whilst there and have our references ready beforehand.

Instead I am typing away as I would rather warm up by writing whatever I can write right now. I do not feel like reading.

I feel like writing.

I also feel like remaining at home, lying on my bed in my underpants and being as lazy as possible, but right now that is not possible so instead I am here at university, writing away to warm up which will somehow make it easier for me to find my references that I will need to write an essay that I have not yet even started as I am expected to write it under exam conditions.

FUN!

It’s not a pretty day outside. It’s probably humid.

In here it feels almost dead, sterile and unpleasant.

I’m not sure why.

It still is a lot better than how the library usually feels, which is busy, almost overcrowded and unpleasant.

Oh well.

Maybe this library is just never pleasant to be within.

Who knows?

I don’t.

Or do I?

I do know that soon I will be outside. I know that my university colleague and I have a lot of work to do before we can say that the day is over for us.

I do know that I am sitting here, wearing a gaudy shirt and pretending I know how to do the things that I know.

I don’t know what that sentence was about., but I think that I shall continue on with that train of thought.

how do I know that what I know  is what I know and not in fact what someone else knows?

How do I know what I know?

What if knowing what I know is not actually knowing anything and instead I know not what I know at all?

What if knowing something is not true and instead I know nothing?

How do I know?

How do you know?

What if what I know is what someone else knows and I am merely not knowing anything but instead channeling what someone else knows?

How would I know if what I know is not what I know and instead a whole bunch of things that I have made up that have no real attachment to each other, just simply because I read them?

What if I am going on a tangent for no reason whatsoever?

That is a possibility that I must consider.

Well, I don’t have to, but I must.

Perhaps I should stop and instead get back to doing the things that I should be doing.

Perhaps I should do the work that I need to complete.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:20:85

Quick!

Back to it, after the next post.

Urban Coast

A photo of… an urban coast.

To me, it seems that the spread of houses increases the farther away they are from the location of where the photo was taken.

They seem vast, almost being the dominant feature of the photo, yet seem so small and easy to ignore.

The ocean seems really still and quite in this photo.

I hope you enjoy.
