Five-Hundred Word Challenge 236: Lunch Time Thoughts

Those lunch time thoughts are coming back to me, flooding my mind like a flood into a place that floods from time to time when there is heavy rain, causing the water to overflow the banks of a river as the soil becomes too full of water to hold any more water, therefore allowing the water level to rise higher and higher, sometimes leading to a mud slide of sorts that rampages through the streets of your town like a wild pack of wild animals that are behaving in a wild manner, as is the way of animals that are wild that are behaving wildly.

Sometimes many of the houses would end up mostly underwater, causing problems for the residents of the town that is flooded and that is bad as they have to wait for all the waters to completely recede.

Such is the life of living in a flood plain, but at least they aren’t in a plane that is flooded and still flying, because that would be slightly uncomfortable and I imagine that it would affect the ability for the plane to fly due to it retaining too much water (or mud for that matter, if there was dirt in the plane when it flooded and the dirt was so numerous that it turned into mud).

Some people would have to wear ponchos, so more power to them.

Well, more power to those that would wear some sort of plastic bag that was also a suit because when they got off the plane, they’d just take off the plastic bag and they’d be there in their regular suit, looking all cool and respectable.

Then they’d be covered in mud as it poured out of the plane as they did what they usually do which is take action without thinking the whole thing through.

Then they’d look like they were covered in mud.

Such is the way of things when you gamble with your cleanliness.

Sometimes you have to wonder as to why people do these silly things.

You’d also have to wonder as to what would convince someone to get on a plane that was flooded with either water or mud if they were planning on flying to some other location.

It doesn’t seem to be the right thing to do.

It would be better to get another plane, or walk, because at least then you get a bit of a good view that you can appreciate, sleep under the stars, fight for your life and generally struggle with the harsh nature of reality that forever keeps us on our toes when we are outside of the city because we’ve become detached from the world around us unless it’s surrounded by buildings that block out the sun, therefore preventing us from the feeling of catharsis that comes when you rip off your shirt whilst on a cliff facing the ocean and scream about anguish and pain before boxing with a kangaroo, then taking it for a drink.

Late Afternoon at Centennial Parklands

I was walking to Bondi with my study group after being at university for long enough on Tuesday.

We went through Centennial Parklands for part of the walk which is something that I made sure to take advantage of whilst I could.

Here is a dramatic shot with a nice balance of colour, lighting and plantation.

It feels rather quiet and still to me. I doe like that it is a mostly shaded shot with colour being what constitutes the detail and shape of anything not dark in this photo.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 235: Six Minutes to go

I’ve got six minutes to go before I need to log back in from my lunch and I don’t know whether I should be running around like a chicken that is sadly lacking its head and therefore its mind, or if I should sit here in silence, muted and deafened by the muting, biding my time until it is indeed my time to log back in and assist the customers that need my help and verily so in ways that only I can assist in, as per the training that I have received that allows me to do my job as efficiently as I can, although perhaps some of that has to do with the quality of my voice.

I know that I probably should be standing and doing something a bit more productive with my time, but right now I do know that I don’t feel like being productive even though the very process of writing this length of text is in fact a form of being productive, especially if I get it done as quickly as I possibly can, which would mean that I am being more productive than I usually am, I think.

I don’t know.

It has been a long week of study, albeit not with as much as I should be doing and now I am at work wanting to be at home studying in order to make sure that I am all-knowing about the things that I need to be partially-knowing so I can then pass my exams at the end of this semester, even though the semester has already ended.

I do know that soon I will have to log back in and assist customers, but I want to be studying and that I am sitting here and wearing pants, which, all things considered, is a great achievement in my life.

I am also wearing shoes and I’d rather take them off and be prancing around in my socks in some sort of Flashdance style dance, running down the aisles of this contact centre and impressing everyone with my moves that have been described as smooth. Well they would be described as smooth in that moment, for usually I am about as smooth and fluid as a giant cement wall rubbing up against a giant cliff face whilst sandpaper scrapes against itself between these two colossal behemoths.

In that moment smooth is what I would be and I would then launch out a window in a fantastic scene that would turn into something really optimistic and upbeat due to my magnetic moves of swift velvet. People would be drawn and everyone would start dancing and then the camera would zoom out and you’d see the scale of the whole thing as the song would close to an end.

Then I’d go home with a tub of ice cream and sit in front of my computer in my underpants whilst not doing anything that is particularly interesting, as my life is a beautiful dichotomy.

I wrote this whilst I was at work earlier and didn’t get around to posting it and I don’t know why.

It’s silly.

Light Tower

In April of last year I went for a walk around Balmain at night.

I thought that I had shared some of the photos from that walk, but it looks like I have not.

Oh well.

Here’s two of those photos that were taken on the walk.

As can be seen, the “Focus” is different in these. I think it has to with something.

Most likely not paying attention to how the lens was focusing. I’m pretty sure I was using manual focus at the time.

The second shot is one of my favourite.

I’ve wanted to make use of it for a while but never got around to doing so.

I like how it is framed, as well as the use of space and the ambiguity of the shot when trying to place it in context with which area it may be a part of.

I like the one that is out of focus as well, but I don’t think it works as well as the one that is in focus.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Expanse of Clouds

Here’s a shot of an expanse of clouds.

This was taken earlier in the year during my walk from Bondi to Coogee.

I get a real sense of depth from this photo, although I think it is much more apparent in the third and fourth photo than the first two.

I also like the spread of the clouds, as well as how the different types work together in their pattern.

I’ve included the image four times as I like the way that an image can change in look and feel over various changes made.

The second image is my entry into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.
I recommend that you check out what other people are submitting and perhaps consider submitting something yourself.
I also recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s other work.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Tamarama and Bronte Coastline

Here’s a photo that I took back in January whilst walking from Bondi to Coogee.

In the first photo, I like the softness of everything, as well as the flat lighting and colour as it still seems to have a lot of depth and vibrancy to me.

I’ve included the second as to more accurately represent how the area looked at the time, but it now seems weird to me.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 234: Looking for Something

There was a cool wind blowing hard across the desert landscape.

Staring outward with intent whilst the wind caressed their face, a lone person was staring out across the vast expanse, looking for something that they could not quite put their finger on, for they knew not what they needed to locate, but they knew that they would recognise it once it was caught in their sight.

It had been a long journey to reach where they were. They did not know why they had left their home. They only knew that they had to, almost as if compelled by their very being to leave and make it this far and to wherever their next destination happened to lie.

There were times when they wondered as to where their life was being taken, but they never thought to question what it was that they were doing, despite not really being sure.

Sands were being picked up and trying to scratch against their skin, but they were well-protected from any form of abrasion, as well as the sun, which was attempting and failing to beat down mercilessly upon the person’s being.

They didn’t seem to be able to discern anything in particular and, after standing around without much motion for a while, decided that it was best to continue moving on and searching for remaining stationary had not proven fruitful in their endeavor and did not look likely to suddenly provide the results that they were searching for; thus it was important that they began moving again, lest they remain stuck to a single point in the vast and empty landscape which they found themselves inhabiting in that given moment of time.

Trudging their way along, they found that, whilst almost imposing and most definitely epic in size, the way forward was far more straightforward than what they had perceived, although they weren’t sure if they had actually perceived anything about  the difficulty of making their way through the desert that surrounded them.

It was hard to deny that the sand was annoying at times, but as they mostly had hard surface to walk along, they found the path both easy, open and inviting.

It was easy enough to get moving quickly without having to stop, or slow down, or expend far more energy than what one would deem necessary.

The longer that they walked, the more that they realised that whatever it was that they were looking for would not be found in the desert around them. It was something that they had to look for far beyond the reaches of the arid surrounds. It was probably going to be a long journey for them before they could truly say that they had found what it was that they were seeking, but they did not truly know for certain if this was indeed the case.

All that they knew in that given moment was that they were looking for something and in the arid landscape was not where it was.

Clouds over Rozelle Bay in the Early Stages of Sunset

Here’s a shot that I took yesterday whilst I was getting a lift home.

We were at the end of Anzac Bridge and I had been taking shots the whole way across, so when the cables were out of the view I took the opportunity to get this shot, not noticing the plane in the sky.

It feels like a bit of a soft, relaxed picture, which I think mostly has to do with the colours.

I think the spread of the clouds combined with the emptiness of the sky in this photo is rather lovely.

I also think that this photo has a few layers in everything underneath the sky, the band of clouds and the clear sky.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 233: Studying in a Room

Sitting in a room staring at my laptop whilst I wait for the words to appear on my screen despite being waves of sound that small bones in my ears perceive and translate into something audible that I can understand so that I can make the words appear on the screen using my fingers to hit the keys that are attached to buttons that, when pressed, provide commands to the laptop to create letters that, when put together in a certain order, form words that I can understand which hopefully lead to sentences that help translate the audible words into a visual language that I can then read as these will be the notes that I take from the lectures that I listen to in order to help my brain retain the information that I need to retain in order to be able to pass the exams that I have coming up, although right now study is focused on passing only and exactly one exam, for once that one is out of the way, the next one will have my attention as I want to make sure that I pass the closest one as I need to get more marks to pass it and  now I am rambling and I cannot remember what my intention for this post was, although I am sure that I will find it along the way.

I am in this room with the team that I worked with on the group assignment and we are doing somewhat well. We are doing a little bit of procrastination, but progress is good and so long as we stay as focused as we can, then I’m sure that we will do alright.

We just need to stay focused, regardless of how difficult that that seems to be for us.

I can honestly say that this is a team that I like being a part of. There’s only three of us, but we have some sort of group dynamic that seems to work, although I’m not too sure as to what the dynamic is, but I imagine that one day I will work it out.

Maybe we’re a democracy. Maybe.

I’d prefer a dictatorship, where each of is is as power-hungry as the other but too lazy to seize it and too lazy to protect what precious control we have, despite none of us having any control whatsoever.

So it’s a group of deluded students slowly working their way through course material that they should have started going through a while ago. Such is the way of things in the world.

Wait.

Such is the way of things in this room that we have booked for six hours.

We’re locked in here until we learn something new. Then we are locked in here until we make sure we’ve learned a fair bit, as the exam is a week away and we have a lot of work to conquer before we can truly say that we are prepared for success.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:00:07

Even though I shouldn’t be writing right now, I do think that it keeps the mind sharp and more able to absorb knowledge.

Also, I just realised that the exam is Wednesday next week, so a little over a week to be successful.

Spilled Chocolate Milk

Or is it?

Here is a shot I took a little over a month ago.

I was walking home when I saw this and decided to take a few photos due to the bottle being positioned the way it was working well with the mark on the ground.

I did end up positioning the bottle slightly as I think it moved whilst I was taking pictures, either from wind or from me accidentally moving it beforehand.

I hope you enjoy.
