Five-Hundred Word Challenge 232: Writing About Music

Sometimes music can really take you on a journey through sounds and memory, feelings and scenes, and so on and so on.

Music is a wonderful thing. I’ve heard it described as the closest we’ve ever come to describing the indescribable.

I’m not too sure as to how true that statement is, but I can’t deny that I see some credibility in it, as music reaches out and speaks to us in ways that we cannot easily describe some of the time, although I imagine that for a lot of people it is a lot of the time until they find ways to understand the feelings that they feel.

Music can really help set a scene, whether it be in a film or when moving around in some form of transport, or just walking.

Speaking of scenes in a movie, there’s a really bad habit I’ve noticed where it seems that whoever created the score decided that the best idea is to outright tell you how to feel rather than help underscore the scene and let you come to the conclusion of how you’re mrean tot feel yourself. I’m not sure if this is intentional or not, but I would like to see an audience not treated like they’re a bunch of idiots who can’t think for themselves more often than I do as it’s a really bad way to treat both the audience and the musical score.

Music allows you to take form and shape and change, moving along to music in dance as you let the rhythm move through your body and take you on a journey that can be as energetic and intense as it can be slow and relaxed.

Music is a wonderful thing that we have somehow discovered and adapted to our own thing.

There’s plenty that could be described as throwaway. Almost as much as there is that could be described as well-made, timeless (although I do believe that there is less music that is timeless than most would have you believe as plenty of people seem to be stuck in the past, whether they want to admit to that or not), and truly evocative of imagery and feelings that are not easily expressed in a setting that does not feature music.

Music is as much a massive industry as it is an art form and both are as credible as each other. You can find as much pretentious rubbish in music as an art form as you can find excellent quality in music as an industry.

I would like to believe that music is as objective as any other art form. I like to believe that it can be analysed objectively. I think that it is also as subjective as any other art form out there.

Music has an ability to connect to you on a deep level that other things might not reach. It is a form of language that does not always need to be spoken in order to effectively communicate.

Faster than I thought.

Not sure what I was aiming for.

Walking Home with Ewe

After Ewe and I saw Baywatch, we decided to walk home for reasons  that are beyond me. I think I mostly wanted to get away from the large amount of people outside of the cinema.

And so walking we started and verily did so with vigour. Well, as much vigour as we could, considering our condition at the time.

It was a long, lengthy walk full of scenic scenes and other things that are in a walk some of the time.

So we headed down from Greater Union on George Street and gradually made our way to Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour. On the way I asked why we were walking that way to Darling Harbour as the way that we were going lead a little away from where we wanted to be, which was most likely Pyrmont Bridge so we could more directly go to Anzac Bridge, which we decided to walk across on the way home.

Anyway, we reached Tumbalong Park and started walking around it when we were talking about how far off course we were, when Ewe mentioned we could take a lift nearby to get out of Darling Harbour, which we did.

On the way to the lift we took note of how Darling Harbour was changing, with some of the changes seeming much more superfluous than others.

Once out of the lift I took a couple of photos somehow and then we continued to walk.

It was slow going. I’m certain that we were walking faster than it felt, because it felt like the walking was taking a long time.

We followed the walkway that we were on, then went up some stairs that took us over a road. It began to rain and it wasn’t long before the rain was heavy.

We hid out under some playground equipment as it was the driest place that we could find. We were there for a few minutes with rain getting to us quite easily until Ewe noticed that we could easily wait it out under an overpass that was a few metres nearby, so we did.

We talked about risking getting wet whilst we waited, but thankfully the rain eased up much sooner than I thought and off we went back on our walk.

We went down a few back streets and somehow crossed a busy road without getting hit before going along more back streets and ending up near the Anzac Bridge and marveling at some park area that we could see.

Just before this, Ewe liked the look of the end of a street, so he took a photo but was disappointed as it didn’t look as good as it did in his thoughts.

Anyway, we reached Anzac Bridge and then crossed it before parting ways. Whilst we were crossing I looked at the horizon on one side and thought it was cool that I could see the sunset colours, even though I couldn’t.

It was a long walk as it was not as direct as it should have been, but we got to see some stuff we don’t normally see.

I thought that writing about this would produce something more interesting than this as the walk was quite enjoyable. We talked about stuff, got confused, laughed and overall had a good time.

There were a number of times where we expressed surprise at how long our walk was, but we still found it to be enjoyable.

Darling Harbour at Night

This was taken last night during the lengthy and scenic walk that Ewe and I went on to get home.

I’m surprised that, given my state last night, I was able to get the shot as well as I did.

In the first version, I really like how the colours come through with the varying light levels. It feels a bit warm and the people becoming blurs due to this being a long exposure works well with the scene as it had been raining heavily during parts of the day.

In the second, I like that the area feels somewhat cold and uninviting despite being a very social precinct. I also think that it feels and looks quite artificial, which was unintentional as this is very close to how it looked when I took the photo.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Baywatch Review

Last night Ewe and I went to see Baywatch.
We weren’t expecting a great film and went in a bit smashed but I still remember the film quite well.

It was a somewhat interesting experience that is best described by the message my smashed self sent to my partner after getting home:

So it all started off as a cheesy film that started becoming more and more surreal. There was a point where The Rock started punching people and the camera was behind him, but it was really quick. Then he got shot. Then he comes out of the water and declares himself the Ocean God and shoots the villain in the face with a fire work. It had two endings that were great and then one that wad okay.

Plenty of the humour was pretty flat, mostly aiming for the lowest common denominator.
Some of it is okay, but only some.

Effects were cheap, acting was passable, etc. etc.

The film not taking itself seriously worked well enough and prevented a complete disaster.

It really should have ended either at the point when Dwayne Johnson gets fired, or when Zac Efron is drowning. It would have made or a great surprise and been far more daring than what we usually get when we watch a movie.

By the way, there’s spoilers in this review.
If you’re planning on seeing Baywatch, then don’t keep reading as there’s spoilers.

I like the part where Dwayne Johnson punched the ocean to get into it in order to rescue someone.

I also liked the part where Zac Efron launched out of a cold chamber.

Also, a flock of manta rays does not go around stinging people. The character who studied marine biology should have known that and corrected Dwayne Johnson.

I’m not sure if I’d recommend seeing this film as there’s a chance that it might not be the same as what I saw.

I will say that it was a film that could have been better.

Bank of Communications

On my long commute, whilst near Mill Pond I took this photo.

I like how it’s framed, as well as how the spread of light illuminates some of the detail.

I also like that this sign doesn’t seem to be doing much.

I’d say something about how I’ve re-contextualised this from being just an advertisement into a sign that is a critique on the surrounding area which, whilst has much going on seems a bit cold, but that would be fibbing.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Coldness. A Girl.

Here’s the result of the last post being translated too many times.

For those interested, here’s the path that I took:

English > Japanese > Igbo > Arabic > Latin > Filipino > Yiddish > Azerbaijani > Vietnamese > Russian > Traditional Chinese > Scots Gaelic > Japanese > English

This is mostly for fun, but once again I find the result to be rather poetic.

It is, at the least, kind of interesting.

The below is unedited.

I hope you enjoy.

—–

But hey, I am glad to swim it is not needed, it is not water.

Therefore, as water (at least in water) in the water, the opportunity to begin to decline.

Coldness. A girl.
It is probably so useful, therefore, also for long-term use.

They think that it was painful when they come out, mud which is thought to be the cause of the war, if it comes out, I will come out.

If there is no, in the past will release the age book avoidance groups, they will drown and kill.

maybe.

Maybe I said. They continue to see distance, I think it’s pretty cool.

I said now that it was less water than was supposed to be in the water, but he did not eat on the day of the accident.

I do not know.

Cold feet, no incomparable. If they need to make money, water, you will not work as you get points. In most cases, you are used to make meat, you have a sweet eating.

Sometimes it seems good, I think I want to see. I need this instead of this.

But keep in mind that it remains low level. After that, I think. But well, in the case of social security this story, or the real need to change to reflect the life remember, of course, after changing the history of the rock, struggling in the future There, I say, do not do.

The target sits as a goose’s neck and a bear bamboo and covers the gray songs and opens the bag in the way of orange juice.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 231: Words Strung Together to Form Sentences

It’s stopped raining now which means I don’t have to swim to work, so I’m rather happy about that, I think.

I think because, despite the weather easing up (we’re getting a lot of rain once more), there’s still a good chance that it will start bucketing down again, meaning I may have to swim regardless.

It’s a cold day, which means that it’s a day to rug up a fair bit.
Perhaps it’s also a day where rugging up may not actually be beneficial in the long run, but really, there’s only one way to find out.

Perhaps if it turns out that rugging up is indeed the optimal way to go, then my ebullience will shine once more like the rising sun on a battlefield of clay and decrepitude.

Perhaps it may not and instead, like the heavy objects that are unable to escape the grasping, engulfing body of the deep heavy ocean, my mood will sink in a manner that would almost seem fatalistic.

Perhaps.

Perhaps I’m just talking for the sake of talking because I need to keep on typing in order to keep my fingers warm due to them feeling quite cold.

Perhaps I want the sun to come out a bit more so that the amount of water that the plants I have are receiving is balanced out so that they don’t end up drowning due to the significant amount of rain that has fallen over the last few days.

I don’t know.

All I know is that my fingers are cold, it’s not raining right now and soon I will need to make my way to work in order to earn the money that allows me to buy the honey, or better yet a wide range of food that I can then use to cook with to make the meals of delicious temptation that my eyes cannot be averted from in their usually wandering gaze.

Sometimes I like looking at things because they look interesting to me. There was one time where I was looking at an object and thought to myself “that’s a rather interesting object”.

However, due to the unreliability of memory, that may not actually be what I thought. There’s a chance that I was not thinking at the time. If that is indeed the case, then my memory will need to shift to reflect the more accurate version of history, although history, whilst set in stone, is able to be shifted, for it is as mercurial as it is subjective, just like all the courses that I take in order to obtain the future that I want and cradle it within my hands like a precious item of desire that requires care and protection, I think.

Well, it’s time for me to grab the swan by the neck and mosey my way onto something else that lies on the path to the grand discovery of nominal importance when a grey-coated wombat haranguing a meringue lemon sauce unsurprisingly stands tall.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:38:60

So I’m going to run this through a translator a few times and see what the result is because I’ve wanted to do this for a few days.
I was hoping for more verbosity, but you can’t win them all.

Written at home.

Photo of Mr. Demir Provided

In trying to work on the next two posts, I decided to post this which was “written” last year as it relates in a way. It’s now lead to me aiming to finish a bunch of drafts that I’ve had going for a while.

So this was the result of running this post through a translating software using different languages for a while.

I decided not to post it at the time as I thought it was a bit silly.

It still is a bit silly.

I like seeing bad translations as, whilst I do find them humorous, I also think that they are poetic and occasionally profound.

Everything below (including the bit written at the end) remains unedited, from what I can remember.

I hope you  enjoy.

So, if anyone is wondering as to what this is, I decided to run the last post through Google Translate multiple times and got this.

It is as wonderfully horrible as it is poetically graceful.

Have fun with this one.

A Weak Post on the Far Cry 5 “Controversy”

So here I am sitting down after a whole day of illness and not doing much other than sharing photos, realising that my photo to writing balance is seriously out right now (or is it?) and I need to do some more writing, which is what today will be filled with.

Now that that’s out of the way, there’s something that I want to talk about at the time of this writing.

Recently Far Cry 5 was announced and a bunch of people got a little bit upset about the content of the game, showing that people have double standards when it comes to portrayal of something.

The game seems to have themes of religious extremism with whites being the main antagonists. Seems to. It might be cultists. This is just the premise that everyone is aware of at the moment. It could change significantly.

It’s enough to get a bunch of white Americans into an uproar about the situation, because it’s okay to have anyone who isn’t a white American as a villain, especially if they’re Muslim.

I’m not sure of the numbers of how many people are angry about this. I imagine that it’s actually not many. I think that it is still worth discussing because it shows that there’s still people who need to pull their head out of their ass and realise that an antagonist of a game being a religious American is nothing to get upset about and is not social justice going to far.

Starting a petition to have the people changed from being white religious Americans to Muslims is petty and idiotic. It shouldn’t matter who or what the villains are. What should matter is that the game is well-made and if it is designed to make one think then it shouldn’t be a problem so long as that element is handled well.

I think that people can’t handle a bit of criticism, whether it exists or not. I also think that maybe people want to find offence in something, whether it exists or not.

I think that these kinds of people need to shut up and get on with their lives because all they’re doing is revealing how much on the side of a losing battle they are.

A white American  fundamentalist as a villain is not a bad thing. If you find that offensive, perhaps the problem exists with you and not the rest of the world. Perhaps the problem is that you need to grow up. Perhaps the problem is that you don’t want to be challenged, especially by something that is not challenging in the slightest. Perhaps the problem is that you need to stop being so close-minded.

There’s a lot of worse things in the world to worry about and, despite the current political climate, the nationality and religious beliefs of a villain in a video game is significantly less important than learning more about who else exists in the world and trying to get along with those you may not agree with for whatever reasons.

There’s nothing wrong with criticism. There’s also nothing wrong with healthy discussion and debate.

There’s plenty of problems with getting angry because you feel offended by the villain of a game being a white religious American.

Mill Pond at Sunset

Here’s a shot of Mill Pond.

It’s a shot of Mill Pond at sunset.

There is water and sky in this photo.

There are also colours.

There are lights and reflections.

The lights are from the urban area which includes the airport.

As this is a long exposure, the lights from the plane seem to be in the sky just as lights, which are also reflected in the water.

I hope you enjoy.
