South Once More

Another shot of the view of the south of the apartment I was in a few weekends ago.

This one gives a greater view of what is visible than the previous photo of this area that I uploaded.

I think that there’s a sense of “Order” to the layout and sizes of the buildings, as well as their windows.

This is another photo where I like seeing how the clouds and the buildings work with each other.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Passing through Beverly Hills

Here’s a photo that I took a few weeks ago when I was on my way to university after doing the first part of my first commissioned photography assignment.

I played around with this image whilst processing and ended up with a bunch of results, the below three being the ones I liked the most.

I like that two of the image look a bit rough and “lo-fi”. It adds something that I can’t quite put my finger on that makes them a little more appealing to me.

Maybe it’s because the images feel a bit faded.

I included the 2nd one as I like it quite a lot. However, I felt the contrast was a bit too strong in parts and I couldn’t quite fix it without changing the result too much.

The last image is my entry into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.
I recommend that you check out what other people are submitting and perhaps consider submitting something yourself.
I also recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s other work.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Hill at North Head

Here is a photo of… a hill… at North Head.

This was taken last year. I’m not sure as to why I didn’t upload the image.

I think there’s a good sense of depth in this photo.

I also think that the clouds in this photo appear quite grandiose, especially when compared to the land which seems humble in comparison.

I hope you enjoy.

Canal near Mill Pond

Here’s a shot that I took on Sunday whilst riding home on my indirect route of choice.

I like that the reflection is not perfect in this photo, as it seems to make the photo feel a bit more real to me.

I also like that, hidden behind the trees you can make out some construction equipment, among other things.

I think that the sunset adds a nice hue to the blues of the photo.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 230: The Pedaling Warrior

Riding down the freeway, the pedaling warrior of the sunset dips in and out of traffic like it is the business of no-one they ever knew, for they are beholden to no-one and no-one can try and stop their purposeful pedal.

The traffic is slow and mostly stationary, but the pedaling warrior knows their way around as they duck and dodge, moving in between greater vehicles with their trusty iron steed with amazing grace and skill so far beyond what everyone around them could ever hope to know, for they have become one with their ride and their ride one with them, almost as if they were fused together and operating off one brilliant mind.

When the traffic moves, so do they. When it is still, they move more freely.

Soon it is time to abandon the freeway, for the path does not need to be apparent and there is little time to spare before the warrior needs to be at the destination that they have chosen. Perhaps they never chose the destination, but it was always calling out to them in ways that they never expected for it to call out, although this must have been on a somewhat subconscious level.

Once given the opportunity, the pedaling warrior abandons the road and into the field into a gradually thickening vegetation. It neither slows nor deters them as they look onward with a great intent that is not usually seen in someone’s eyes. Such is their strength of will to push on in the face of a path that cannot be easily discerned.

Soon the path begins to tilt downward, allowing the pedaling warrior to accelerate faster. They know where they are going, even though they cannot see where the path is leading. It is more direct than what some would consider necessary, but for the pedaling warrior it is the only path that they can take.

The vegetation is still thick but it is becoming easier to push through. The pedaling warrior has cuts on their skin but they do not stop. Soon the composition of the air seems to be changing, signalling that they are close to where they need to reach.

The vegetation suddenly gives way to a clear view. As the edge of the cliff approaches the pedaling warrior prepares to temporarily leave the earth.

Faster and faster they go, faster than they usually are. The wind hitting their face is pulling tears from their eyes. Still, the pedaling warrior does not falter, nor relent. The time is at hand for them and they are not prepared to stop here, for if they do, it will have been all for naught.

They leave the earth, following the downward trajectory that the incline had guided them along.

It’s not long before they seem to be falling downward, miscalculating the amount of speed they needed to carry them right over, and yet the pedaling warrior manages to get over with success, allowing them to continue on their journey.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 229: Maybe I am Dreaming

It’s currently quiet at work, so I’m seeing if I can get a sneaky post out before I finish as I have less than nine minutes to go before the end of my shift.

Oh, the things that I could write about right now!

It’s been an interesting day in that it hasn’t actually been that interesting, other than my going to work which will soon lead into my going to home, because I’d rather sleep at home than at work, although I imagine one day they’ll allow me to.

I’ve never slept at work before, although I have come close. Of course, this was at another job.

I’ve slept out in the bush, although that was in a tent, so I’m not sure as to how much that counts as sleeping in the bush. I do know that I have been awake in the bush, which is another story entirely.

Such is the way of things when I am going on about nothing at all when there’s nothing to write about, sometimes, but not always, although it can usually be frequent, and very much so.

I do know that right now I perceive myself to be awake, but who knows if that is the true perception? Maybe I am merely dreaming of an ordinary life after an extraordinary amount of dreams, although my life is slightly more extra than it regular ordinary life, I would like to believe.

I do know that I get to spend an extra amount of time awake compared to the amount of sleep that I usually have, which is entirely on me.

I also get to have extra portions of food sometimes, although how much of a life beyond ordinary is up to debate at the end of the day.

I remember once when I ate a really large amount of food. It was about a kilo of food. I was feeling rather lethargic at the end of the meal. I needed two iced coffees to help wash it all down. There was a little bit of bread left over. I walked from where I was (Kings Cross) to Town Hall afterward. It felt somewhat difficult to move due to how much I had eaten. I don’t think I’ve eaten that much of one item since. It was a rather heavy meal. It was satisfying to eat, I can tell you that much. I can’t really remember how it went though other than it was slow to eat and I’m glad that I haven’t had such a large meal since because it was quite excessive in the amount that I had.

It probably would have been good if there was less of what I ate, but then again it would have been less of a celebration of excess had I had less, so I’m glad that I had as much as I did, I think.

Sometimes I like wombats and other animals but usually I prefer to wear a hat on a sunny day.

Pretty happy with the speed of this writing.

Pretty happy with heading home now.

Sinking Sun Over Redfern

Passing through a patch of sky between clouds, the sun continuously moves beyond the reach of those who would chase after its light.

Here’s another shot of the sunset over Redfern.

I was mostly playing around with processing, seeing what would result when I tried to get certain things to happen, which is why these look the way they look.

I like all of their colour and light levels, but I’d have to say that I like the first and the third the most.

The first due to it looking something like a painting and the third due to being less colourful than the others, yet not quite feeling as though the colour has been drained.

The last one was included to give an idea of how the scene originally appeared.

I like that in all the photos the word “ULTRA” written on the crane is visible.

There’s something similar to a powerful, moving feeling that I get when I look upon this. Maybe it’s because the photo is somewhat dramatic and moving due to how quiet and still it feels, almost as if the area is empty.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 228: My Legs are Sore

My legs are sore.

They are feeling very sore this afternoon, as well as this morning.

They will no longer be sore soon, but right now they are sore.

Why are they sore?

Well, it’s a bit of story.

I decided to go on a long cycle from work to home yesterday by going home via the airport in Mascot, as well as along the Cooks River for a while until reaching a point where I’d have to go along a road for a while that would get me to another location that would lead to me getting home.

There were some stops along the way and the route had some parts where I veered off the indirect route to do a lap somewhere.

Well, that happened twice. Kind of.

Well, that was a lot shorter than I expected it to be, but I guess that that’s the way that these things go sometimes.

It was a bit of an interesting trek in that I did it mostly in the dark. Seeing people walking their dogs in what was near pitch black was a bit odd. I’m glad that I had lights on my bike.

It was actually a pretty good run. It took longer than I thought it would, but that’s the way of these things.

Moments where I was forced to be on the road instead of a shared path were alright.

Doing laps was alright.

It was a decent cycle.

I made sure to have my camera with me to take some photos. I was hoping to get the sunset at the airport at Mascot, but I missed the opportunity. I certainly will have to go back there some time in order to allow myself the opportunity to get some good snaps.

Probably the best part of the cycle was going along the Cooks River at night.

Other than seeing people walking dogs in the dark, it was interesting in that I was able to quite quickly despite having reduced visibility due to how straightforward the path is to go along. It’s easy to always know where you’re going and it’s quite a smooth ride. There are times where you have to get off your bike, but they are few and far between, so it’s easy to get a good amount of speed going.

Despite seeing people around, the path is wide enough to not have to worry about whether you’re going to hit them or not and getting around them doesn’t slow you down too much.

Probably the worst part was the last hill climb. It’s one that I’ve done many a time. However, after a lengthy cycle, it was more of a struggle than it should have been, but such is the way when you haven’t done a long cycle for a while.

Other parts were varying in difficulty.

It was a decent cycle. It’s one I’ll do again some time down the track. For now, I think I’ll be fine with a short cycle.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:01:76

I was thinking that this would be much longer word-wise.

Oh well.

More Drifting Clouds over Sydney CBD

This photo was originally quite beautiful, in my opinion. The clouds looked almost like some sort of collection of brush strokes, I think. I’m not sure.

Anyway, I thought it was a good photo. However, there was a lot of dust on the sensor that showed up, so I increased the black levels quite a fair bit whilst processing.

I do like the results, but I I do like the original more.

With these there’s a greater contrast between the light levels as well as the pattern of the city skyline and the pattern of the clouds.

I hope you enjoy.

Once when I was Cycling Across the Sydney Harbour Bridge

I was going to have a go at pedestrians today, but the thing is I can’t think of much that they do other than walk onto the road without looking at where they’re going most of the time, then seem to express surprise at the idea of there being vehicles on the road when they’re almost taken out by said vehicles.

However, I think that in all fairness, I must have a go at cyclists today because, as a cyclist I think that it is important to be as critical of the cycling community as possible.

This probably won’t be too critical, but with that being said I do have to admit that there’s only one way to find out.

I remember once when I was cycling across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, some great words were spoken to me. I was going at a good speed and had my hands off the handle bars as my balance was quite good. One of the lycra elite decide that, in their infinite wisdom, they would impart some of it onto me as I was merely a lowly peasant that needed to be guided along the path of righteousness.

Thus, as they were passing, the wise, knowledgeable words were passed on to me in a form of kindness and understanding:

“Put your hands on your handlebars dickhead!”

They were as just as they were appropriate and not in any way full of fault. Despite seeming like  was also fine that, in this persons infinite wisdom, they almost caused an accident as they were cycling right into a number of oncoming cyclists. Thankfully they managed to get past me and into the correct side of the cycle path in time, but of course there was nothing wrong with what they did whatsoever. After all, they were a part of the lycra elite, the most infallible of all cyclists.

Who am I to argue about what I could perceive as sheer idiocy ? After all, I am not even worthy of being within the same area of this person who clearly knows better than I, as well as knows more about how to conduct themselves in a good way with a good attitude.

As they past, I think I shrugged. I’m not sure. I didn’t care so I didn’t pay too much attention to my reaction. I was more interested in the fact that I was cruising at a decent speed, not taking over the cycle path and therefore not causing an obstruction that could have lead to a really nasty accident, considering the cyclist who decided to give me the wise words was going much faster than other cyclists on the path.

It’s stuff like this that makes cyclists look like assholes. It ends up spreading to look like an attitude that most cyclists hold when that’s not the case and in turn makes cyclists have to work harder to turn over the perception that we’re a major nuisance in Sydney.

Admittedly, not holding onto handle bars is not the safest thing in the world.
However, I won’t pretend that being an idiot and almost causing an accident is any better.
