Sun and Clouds

This is my submission for The Daily Post‘s weekly photo challenge for this week, with the theme being “Muse“.

I’m not too sure what I could call my muse when it comes to photography.
Even after thinking about it I find it hard to pinpoint something.
The closest I can get is either water, or the sun on cloudy days.

I like how water is ever-changing yet the same.
I like how it is as rough as it is gentle.

With the sun on cloudy days, I like the patterns that are formed.
I like how the sun can drastically alter how the clouds would appear without it.

I’ve decided to put up a picture of the sun and clouds.

Five-hundred Word Challenge 17: the Semester is Over

I’m feeling rather relieved about it as well.
It was a bit of a slog towards the end, what with doing a lot of overtime at work and studying at the same time.
However, it’s over for now.

I’m almost certain I did not pass. I went in feeling fairly prepared for the final exam for stats, but when I sat down I found myself feeling rather lost with the material.
I was able to answer some things but not all and I know I did provide a few incorrect answers.

However, I’m still happy that I reached that point and if I have to do stats again, I don’t mind.

If there’s anything I learned from this semester, it’s that I don’t need to write down all the lectures slides. I think this was my biggest error, as most of my study time was spent listening to lectures and writing information from them.
Whilst writing information is a good thing, I didn’t need to write everything down and could have used a large amount of summarising.

Oh well.

I’ve also learned that, despite a fair bit more crap than usual piling itself on to me, I can surmount it and keep going.

Now that the semester is over, I have a fair bit more free time which means I’ll be able to spend more time writing, taking photos and working on music.

I’m also hoping that it means I can do more overtime at work as that will be more money for Japan, which is coming up quite soon.

Despite only doing one subject at uni this semester, I still had a tough time at points.
I think this mostly falls on not studying for a while.
I did do a prep course in 2013 and that had some challenges, but it was a bit different in comparison to what I’m doing now.

I’m hoping I can continue study next semester, but it depends on if it would be okay for me to not be there for a few weeks (as the next semester starts before I head to Japan and ends after).

Hopefully it will be and it doesn’t affect me too much, but I need to look into it.

For now, uni-wise, I’m going to wait for my exam results and see how I did.

I might continue studying the stats material for this semester as well so I remain familiar with it instead of forgetting it.

I’m certainly looking forward to the challenges that will present themselves to me as my studies continue, whether it be this semester coming up or the one at the start of next year.

Part of me wants it to be right now.

However, I do also recognise the need for a break between semesters as I imagine it would be easy to burn out if I kept on going without respite.

Studying at uni seems to become easier the more you go.
It’s getting into the swing of things that’s difficult.

Considering the last one was over a month ago, I’m surprised with how fast I completed this.
Well, back to improving my writing speed.

Uppercutting a Bus

Back in March I complained about public transport in Sydney.
Shortly before this I also complained about it on Facebook, saying that I was going to uppercut a bus into space the next time it happened (this was before the third time it took me almost ninety minutes to go a short distance).

Well, I did it.

It features the Cosmic Fridge partly due to my looking to create an overarching narrative with some of the stuff I do on “MS Paint Masterpieces” and partly because I thought it would make the final image sillier.

On the third panel, the top of the front of the bus says “huh?”.
It’s a bit hard to see.

Power Pole

This is my fourteenth entry into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

I’ve had this photo floating around for a while now.
I took it whilst walking to Balls Head Reserve.
It was taken on the same day as this one.

I like how menacing power poles can look.
I’m not sure why.

What I like most about this photo is how intense it looks.
This is (I think) mostly due to the sky.
The clouds look like they’re going everywhere and the sun appears to be bursting with more light than it usually does.

Meanwhile the power pole stands tall and unmoving.

A Photo of a Rainbow

This is my submission The Daily Post‘s weekly photo challenge this week.
The theme is “ROY G. BIV“.

I haven’t taken many photos of rainbows.
I think they’re interesting, but nothing more than that.

Well, sometimes I see them as amazing, but those moments are few and far between.

It was taken last year. Je and I were heading off to get food and I had taken the camera along with me.
I can’t remember why, but I’m going to assume it was due to how everything appeared.
It had rained and it was close to sunset.

Anyway, I’ve selected this picture as I like how the colour of the sky compliments the rainbow.

There’s not more to it.

Rock

It’s a picture of a rock.
What more can I say?

I took this photo on the same day as “Web“.

Ewe and I had a second break at Bobbin Head (as we were walking to Wahroonga instead of heading back to Mount Kuring-gai Station).

After we were done resting we continued our walk but instead of immediately heading along the track that leads to Wahroonga, we took a slight detour.

It took us to a shaded stream.
We followed it briefly and when we stopped we had a short break.

Ewe headed off after resting and I stayed behind for a few minutes to take photos.

I took pictures of this rock as I was fascinated by how the light was shining on it and how the shadows around it appeared.

I was also fascinated by the rock being the only one that was prominent in the small area around it.

I took a few photos of it and I will post some more of them at another time, but I wanted to focus on this one as it’s my thirteenth entry into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

For me, this photo is less about the image and more about the lines.

Due to the sharp contrast between the light and dark of the photo, the edges of the objects and their shapes become more prominent than they usually would, drawing the focus away from the details.

That is what I believe.

Archibald Fountain

Here is a photo of Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park.

I took this in March.
I was attending a farewell dinner for a manager that had left my office and I managed to arrive much earlier than I expected to, so I walked around Hyde Park to kill time.

I decided to take a few pictures of the fountain there. I can’t remember why. I’m going to assume it was because I could.

It was slightly windy so the water coming out of the fountain was being blown in one direction.

I like how some of the water streams appear to be blurring as they meet with each other, almost becoming fog-like in appearance.

I also like how the figure still appears to be standing with determination, despite the darkness removing much of the details.

Short Poem

Sometimes a left foot wanders inwards
Tracing its path through stars in the grass
It lifts and twists and turns and tries
But it never finds the sounds it seeks

Sometimes a left foot feels sadness
Unable to locate what it looks for
It is the right foot that will always be there
To assist it in carrying on.

A Good day for a View

This was taken on the same day as my photo of the Lewis Wolfe Levy Fountain.

About forty minutes into our walk we stopped briefly to rest.
I decided to take photos of the view as I had a flat surface to work with.

I’ve decided to use this for The Daily Post‘s weekly photo challenge.
The theme for this week is “Off-Season“.

The reason I’ve used this photo is that, despite being at the beginning of winter, it wasn’t cold.
The sky was clear and the day was warm when this photo was taken.

I like that the Sydney Harbour Bridge is visible in the distance and near the centre of the photo.
I also like that it’s not an angle it’s normally seen from.

Jurassic World Review

I found it to be good due to it not being good.

Some of the acting and action was a bit off.

The subplot involving a possible divorce of the parents of two of the characters that was as quickly introduced as it was dropped added nothing to the film.

The soundtrack and the setting was nice.

The pacing was decent for the most part.
Some scenes felt as though they could have benefited from being shorter although it’s a minor complaint.

Some of the dialogue was incredibly cheesy.

Whilst a fair chunk of the film was predictable, it was still fun to watch.

There were a fair number of references to Jurassic Park as well as some objects from it that showed there was still a strong fondness for the setting.

My major complaint is that it was mostly a straightforward action film with minimal use of suspense and a bit of excess, but I guess that’s due to it being a different beast compared to Jurassic Park.

Actually, when I think about it, maybe it’s a brilliant film.

Jurassic Park was fascinating when it was released.
Partly due to my being a child, but also due to how amazing the dinosaurs looked and functioned.
It was very much like a grand discovery.

Of course science moves on but the film is still quite good.

In Jurassic World it is mentioned that genetic splicing was used to create a newer and more exciting dinosaur to keep people coming to the park.

This has to be a commentary on how people are continually wanting and expecting to be wowed more and more due to allowing themselves to be bored easily to the point that some things have to go beyond being ridiculous.

I suddenly feel this may be a brilliant film.

Wait… why does Chris Pratt have a house in the park?
Why does he have golf clubs and fishing rods?

AND WHERE THE HELL DID HE GET THAT COKE?!
