I think this is an old pit; not entirely certain.
This was seen at the blast furnace ruins I somewhat-recently visited.
I like that, whilst some of the remnants remain visible, they’re slowly disappearing. The idea of nature is at work here and so this is a scene of change, I think.
I wonder as to the purpose of this part of the furnace. Perhaps it had to do with slag removal.
This is my submission into the one hundred-and-forty-sixth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.
The theme for this one is “Focusing on the Details“.
I think that, whilst this photo doesn’t quite focus on any particular detail of this pit, it does have a lot of detail; hence my inclusion in this week’s challenge.
The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:
Week 1 – Patti
Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya
Week 3 – Amy
Week 4 – Tina
This week’s challenge is curated by Patti. Next week Amy is curating.
The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.
The eye of a photographer is so often drawn to decay – there is something beautiful to be found in it. Your image does indeed make one wonder about the pit’s original purpose.

Maybe it’s due to how decay can represent history of some sort.

Great choice. You capture the texture of these stones. I like the composition.

Cheers. In hindsight I think the rain before arriving probably helped a bit.

Nice one. The gateway to Dante’s Inferno? 😝🧐

Hopefully not. Bit of a distance for Dante to travel just to get into Hell.

Yes, SH, it’s a mystery. Now I’m wondering about the history of this place and it’s purpose. My eye is drawn to the foreground. The texture, shape and condition of the stones is intriguing.

Unfortunately it being part of a blast furnace is all I know. If I’m ever there again I might just see if there’s any info on this particular bit.

Yes. I wonder how much different it would look if there hadn’t been rain earlier in the day.
