Dress Code

I REALLY need to put stuff up here more often.

To be honest, I’ve had a lot of ideas for writing. However, procrastination is a full time job.Oh well.

I’ve been with the same company for a fair while now. I don’t think highly of them. They’ve tried to do some things that a fairly suspect, but I’ve stuck it out with them as I like my job.
About a month and a half ago, I found out that according to our dress code, Hawaiian/Aloha shirts were technically acceptable attire for men outside of casual dress Fridays as our dress code stipulated that either dress shirts or polo shirts were acceptable attire.
This made me quite happy, as I like them a fair bit and have a few, but I don’t get to wear them often. So, naturally, I started wearing them to work.

This didn’t seem to be a problem until four weeks ago. Three others decided to start wearing Hawaiian/Aloha shirts every Monday, mostly because they could. After the second Monday, one other person started wearing Hawaiian/Aloha shirts every day. This was brought to an end come Wednesday afternoon.

One of the managers who prefers to remain in their office, infrequently stepping out and if so, seemingly refusing to acknowledge in the slightest any of the workers that aren’t team leaders or coordinators sent out an email advising of an updated dress code, stressing that Hawaiian/Aloha shirts were not acceptable business attire. Checking the actual dress code attached, dress and polo shirts had been removed for men and replaced with business shirts, which happened to also be both in bold font and underlined. The rest of the dress code was unchanged.

Come Thursday, early in the morning, the manager that sent out the email stepped out of their office to do some copying or printing or faxing and whilst they were, thought it appropriate to stare me down. I decided to check the legitimacy of the new dress code with our HR department. Sadly, they confirmed it was.

I understand that in an office environment, a certain level of professionalism in attire is to be maintained. However, a dress code should not be changed because someone doesn’t like it being followed in an unexpected way. Especially if that someone hides in their office as much as possible and ignoring most of the floor.

I probably wouldn’t take so much issue with it if they themselves followed dress code.Or if some of the other managers followed dress code.
One of them who happens to be friends with the code altering one seems to have had the dress code vaguely described to them, as they make no attempts to dress appropriately, usually showing up to work in an extremely casual attire with a business jacket.
However, this could be due to, as one manager explained it, a supposed different set of rules for managers that are incredibly difficult to locate.

Suffice to say, the whole silly situation has left a fairly bitter taste in my mouth, as well as others.

Well, at least, at the end of the week the dress code changed, the manager that had it changed was able to go to the pub with one of their office friends well before the work day had ended to reward themselves for a job well done.

I’m back?

So, I managed to procrastinate myself well into a situation where I haven’t written anything for a long time and now I need to pull my finger out as I now have a fear of being entirely irrelevant even though I lack relevance in the first place and am highly unlikely to find myself in a position where I can obtain such a thing.

So now I’m here to stop that fear by eventually giving in to my delusions of grandeur whilst also gradually going off the proverbial rails and going out in some sort of insane glorious bastard manner that will be discussed for generations to come.

But the truth is that I just really missed writing.

The End of 2011

So here we are, at the end of another year.
And what a year it has been!

I managed to squeeze out a five track demo at one point. Then one of my fingernail beds became infected and dropped off. Had a possible relapse of glandular fever and also went to hospital to find out that I may not have had appendicitis.

Bought more musical gear and somehow got a girlfriend. Quite happy to be in a relationship.

Moved house. That wasn’t so fun, but the house was for a while.

Partied hard and relaxed a lot. Have now been with the same company for 3 1/2 years.

Rediscovered old friendships.

Got back into Photography.

Walked off into the sunrise with Fabian, discussing the future.

Got into a fight with a cabbie.

Discovered Pamp.

Got to have an intense experience whilst celebrating the birthday with one of my friends. But that’s another story.

Even though there’s been some downs, I’ve enjoyed this year quite a fair bit. I’ve become a stronger person in ways. Been able to think about who I am a bit more. That’s helped.

I do look forwad to next year. I have two resolutions.

The first would be to complete an EP and an album.
The second would be to enjoy myself.

I look forward to seeing what happens in 2012 in my life. I think it will be another interesting year, but who knows what will be brought onto my plate?

2012? Bring it on.

The Beginning of an Adventure

Every now and then, my trusty companion Fabian & I go adventuring.

I remember one night, when I was resting in my bed after a day of great excrement. I was in a deep sleep, when Fabian violently, yet dramatically burst through my ceiling, unexpectedly as usual.

“Fabian!” I exclaimed as I woke. “You know the wall is perfectly good for that!”
“This is a matter that was far too urgent for the wall”, he replied.
“And what matter could be more important that bursting through a wall violently, yet dramatically would not be sufficient enough to get across the message of its urgency?”
“It is a matter that would require me to violently, yet dramatically burst through the ceiling. I violently, yet dramatically burst through the ceiling as bursting through the wall in a violent, yet dramatic fashion would not, in any possible way, be sufficient enough to carry across the message of how urgent this matter is. It is so urgent, that in preparation, I taught a wombat and a grizzly bear aeronautical engineering for no reason whatsoever.”
“I see your point. What is this urgent matter?”
“High Overlord Emperor Generous has begun his invasion and we are the only two who can stop him!”
“You’re right.”

And without further delay, I leapt out of bed and prepared myself.

I thought about the challenge ahead of us. This would be no ordinary task.

I had my doubts, but as we set out for the journey ahead of us, I knew that we would be able to carry through.

Bucket Hate: Ultimate Power

Once there was a hat of the bucket variety.
It was of an ordinary nature.
“Standard” would’ve been an accurate word to describe it.
These days, the bucket hat is an item that invokes fear and respect.

During the great war against sensibilities, times were harsh on the battlefield.
Neither side had the edge and morale was dropping fast.
After much time spent in the struggle, first side devised a plan that would be devastating to the second side.

The began their plan. It was working greatly. The second side was dropping like flies. There was no hope.

A mysterious man stepped in through a rip in the fabric of space and threw his bucket hat into the sky, blocking out the sun and unleashing a plague of death upon the land until there was no choice but to end the war.

But that woud be a bit too dark, wouldn’t it?

A mysterious man stepped in through a rip in the fabric of space and threw his bucket hat into the sky, blocking out the sun and unleashing a raging herd of bison.
The first and second side had no choice but to put aside their differences and unite to fight this new, unbridled menace.

After great battling, the combined sides eventually came through. But it was not without great sacrifices, only realised as the mysterious man took the bucket hat left through the same rip he came through, leaving the sides to ride off into the sunset.

The Moral of the story is to not let your goats eat your corrugated iron roof.

Fabian

Once, in the fog of history, there was a man. His name was Fabian.

You could say that Fabian was a man of some minor, miscellaneous quality.

One day, he was sitting at his desk in his office of work, debating with one of his friends about the origin of the flying vengeance brick when suddenly, out of nowhere, a posse of stock villainous henchmen burst through the ceiling and started shooting everything. Fabian reached into the drawer in his desk and pulled out his dual pistols. Then he leapt to action.

He started shooting whilst under cover whilst slowly making his way closer to the exit. When the posse realised that they were no longer having a rain of bullets fired upon them, they noticed that Fabian was escaping.

Fabian noticed that the posse had noticed. There was a moment of absolute silence. Fabian ran. The posse followed, shooting throughout the building.

When he reached the lift, Fabian gained slight hope, until realising that the lift was out of order. He would have to take the stairs.

And down the stairs he went, with the posse following close behind.

A few caught up, throwing their fists at Fabian. He managed to dodge and block. Then he fought back, with a few well timed head butts.

As the descent to the entrance continued, Fabian managed to take out some more of the posse by using his mind fist as well as the walls and stairs.

He finally reached the entrance, with a few of the stock henchmen still chasing.

As he charged down the street, he saw a duck at a lemonade stand trying to score some free grapes. Fabian was getting tired of running at this point, so he decided to fight back again.

As the duck was about to pull it off, Fabian utilised the power of artistic licence, grabbed it by the legs with one hand and started swinging the duck above his head. He then let out a deep, booming battle cry that could be considered a fine example of a falsetto voice and started moving towards the remaining stock henchmen whilst swinging the duck as it was freaking out.

He managed to take them out, one by one, until there was only one of his enemies left. Fabian launched the duck at this one standing man with great ferocity and hit him right in the kisser. The duck panicked some more and got away as quickly as it could. The man was unfazed. It was time to run again.

And run he did. The henchman remained in close pursuit. It came to a point where Fabian couldn’t run anymore. He was almost out of energy. After gathering his breath, he realised where he was. The only way was down, as he had managed to reach the highest cliff in Arnham land. This was not ideal.

The stock henchman approached Fabian. The situation looked dire, so Fabian did what he had to.

He jumped.

Fabian fell fast. Whilst it seemed inevitable that he would not survive, he fell through a roof that helped break his fall. He expected a bit of luck at this point. What he wasn’t expecting was the henchman to follow.

The started trading punches and kicks. The fighting was intense. It was brutal. It was majestic. Even though the upper hand had swayed between the two many a time. Neither was superior to the other.

Eventually, Fabian fell, as did the henchman. They had done too much damage to each other to be able to keep fighting. Then they realised they weren’t alone in this house.

The house was filled with many narwhals. As narwhals are prone to exploding violently for no reason, this did not bode well. Fabian had to get up, before they started. Not only that, but the henchman was back on his feet and slowly approaching again.

The Narwhals were about to start exploding. The henchman drew close. Fabian summoned the last of his energy and rose from the ground. He focused. He back flipped. It was the only way he could escape out of the house. Narwhals were blowing up all around him, but he continued to back flip. The henchman had trouble keeping up.

Fabian finally reached the front doorway of the house. There, his trusty panda steed with jetpack was waiting. Giving it a high five, Fabian said it, “Herr Yeltsin, it is time for us to depart!” As he hopped on, the henchman dove and grabbed Fabians’ leg. Fabian took it well. He turned his foot and placed it firmly on the henchman’s face. The henchman let go immediately, grimacing and falling to the ground as the foot remained on his face. As Fabian moved away from the henchman to get back on Yeltsin, he turned to the henchman, looked at the large imprint on his face and said “Das boot.” Then Yeltsin took off, carrying Fabian over a sea of mouse traps, away from the house as it exploded most magnificently.

As they flew, Yeltsin grunted.

“Where to now, you ask? Hmmmm.” Fabian looked into the distance. Off on the horizon, he spied a duck.

“Well, Yeltsin, that duck looks like it could lead us to stranger lands.”

With another grunt, Yeltsin started to follow the duck, off into the sunset.

Pre Order Problems

Earlier on in the year, I pre ordered a special edition of an album I wanted.
It was roughly $100 for the special edition. The shipping? Also $100.
It never arrived.

The first thing I did, after waiting a month from when I was notified that it was being shipped, was contact the the company that was meant to deliver the album. Before this, I had found out that it was listed as being delievered a few weeks prior. However, no one had seen the album arrive and there was someone home at the time of delivery.

The shipping company told me in a very poor manner that they had done their job and to take it up with the company I ordered the album from.

I contacted the company and received no response from them.
I sent a follow up email two weeks after that, again with no response.
It tookalmost two months of emailing them periodically before they sent me an email that asked me to rate the customer experience.

I then also received a proper response asking me to confirm the shipping address.
I provided them with one, only to find out that the company had no more special edition packages left.

I probably should’ve kept better track of the shipping at the start, but I gave it a month due to the general shipping times from America to my place.

In the end, I was refunded what I paid, which is good, but I’m going to avoid using either company in the future.

A Strange Dream

I had a dream recently where I was in Terranigma.

I was doing this side quest where I had to find 5 hobos at the Jordan River in New York City so I could get a legendary item.

I don’t know why in my dream there was a Jordan River in NYC, or why it was referred to as a river, when it had more of an appearance of a man-made canal with diagonal sides.

I found the bed of one of the hobos in a slightly fenced off area of the river, then started looking around and came to sewerage. I kept searching until I realised that the hobo I was looking for wasn’t on the riverbank. They were in the sewer system connected to the river.

I looked around for the entrance to the sewer for a bit, until I went down to the water and put my hand into it. Suddenly, the water started rising quite quickly. I stood there as the water lifted me from the ground as it developed a swell, carrying me with it.

Then I woke up and had to go to the bathroom.

Why 6 is Afraid of 7

There was a time where the numbers all got along. Those times were prosperous and peaceful. There was much enjoyment to be had by all. Everyone thought the peace would last, until one day, when all that changed.

6 was chilling with 9, doing wicked mad stunts with their rocket roller blades, when a new “playa” rolled onto the field. His name was 7. 6 extended a warm welcome to 7, along with 9. Whilst 6 and 9 explained the area that was around them to 7, they went for hot dogs and chilli-filled bagels of a delicious variety. It was quite. 7 seemed alright. However, they were oblivious to what 7’s real motives were.

One day, 6 and 9 went to 7’s crib to chill. 7 greeted them and let them in. Whilst their backs were turned, 7 knocked them out.

When they came to, they were tied up, hanging from the ceiling of a lab. 6 ask 7 to tell him what was going on. 7 explained his plan to take over the general area that they were in and he only had to do one more thing.

That one thing was to consume 6 and 9.

9 passed out at the horror of this plan. 7 begun his consumption, starting with 9. When he was complete, the lab began to crumble. 7 demanded to know why this was happening. It had turned out that 9 was a load bearing number.

7 was quite disgruntled with this revelation. He had to act fast. He made a quick approach for 6 and was about to begin consuming him when a large chunk of debris fell on 7, seemingly ending his life. All hope seemed lost for 6 as the lab continued to crumble, when the thrice octopus flew in and saved him.

As they flew off, the last of the lab finished crumbling; hopefully ensuring that 7’s number was up.

6 didn’t feel entirely at ease though. He felt that somehow, 7 would survive and come after him. Fearing 7’s retribution, he looked onward into the horizon, knowing that his last days of freedom were at an end as the thrice octopus took him to a place where he could remain in hiding until it was safe once more.

It’s not Judgement Day Again

So, as most are probably aware, Harold Camping has once again incorrectly predicted Judgement Day.

Life goes on.

I will admit that for a period, I was paranoid. However, the more I thought about it, the less paranoid I became. I guess, the main thing was that very little, if any of it, made sense.

As much as I think the man deserves the scorn and ridicule he’s going to receive for this, part of me also thinks he doesn’t. He’s embarassed and shamed himself quite heavily and now he’s probably going to have to answer to all the people who blindly followed him without actually thinking.

He’s also made Christianity more of a laughing stock for people who won’t do the research.
Most Christians were not following Harold and now they’ll most likely have to face more ridicule than usual because of him.

Although, I’m listening more to the part of me that thinks he deserves this.
He might have been well meaning, but it didn’t need to be forced down everyone’s throat.
He also should’ve done more research into it instead of showing that he wanted to find a date for the Rapture by applying mathematics to a few numbers in the Bible. He probably also shouldn’t have come out and said that he knew it was true because the Bible is always true, or that the Bible has never been altered.

Well, now that I’m still alive, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I had no plans beyond yesterday and now this.

I might actually have to go back to enjoying life. Or making music. Or taking photos. Or hanging with my friends.

How will I ever cope?
