How I Damaged my Left Foot

In March this year I was cycling down Abercrombie street after finishing up at uni for the day.

I was crossing Parramatta road at a speed between twenty to thirty kilometres when I changed my gear.

The chain came off as I pushed down on my left pedal. My foot left the pedal and decided to meet the road, big toe first.

I got off the road as quickly as I could. It was quite painful and my toe was swelling quickly.

In a decision influenced by my vast intelligence, I hopped back onto my bike and headed to Broadway shopping centre to pick up a game, then cycled home instead of heading straight home to rest.

I had to take the following day off as I couldn’t walk.

Luckily enough I didn’t break my foot, but it took a while before I was able to walk on it for more than short periods as I managed to damage most of it.

I do have some trouble on occasion still, but that is to be expected.

On Thursday last week I had cycled to Wynyard station.

After getting my tickets I made a dash for my train.

As I was running up the stairs to the platform, I managed to drive my left foot into a step instead of onto it, big toe first.

I managed to not fall over and apart from a stumble, I was able to keep my run going and reached my train.

It would not have been very pretty had I fallen as my bike is fairly heavy and I was moving fast.

Managed to avoid breaking anything again and it didn’t hurt nearly as much as the first time, but it has still caused some slight trouble with walking.

Oh well. So long as I take care of it, I should be fine.

It’s funny in a way. The first time was with me on my bike and the second time was with my bike on me.

Hopefully it doesn’t go full circle.
