American Sniper Review

I thought it was okay.

Things I liked:

Most of the sniper scenes were quickly paced.

It wasn’t a film about how awesome the main character was or how awesome the American army is.

It felt like his sniping ability, whilst playing a large part, was more background than anything.

There was focus on how war can affect a soldier in civilian life.

Music was seldom featured and when it was, it was minimalistic and underscored the scenes it played in well instead of blaring out far more than it would ever need to (I’m looking at you Interstellar).

The mumbling.

Things I didn’t like:

The film did feel a bit one-sided at times.

Although there was focus on how war can affect a soldier in civilian life, it seemed minor at best as I felt that the scenes away from the war were short compared to scenes at the war which seemed to drag on at times.

Sometimes the dialogue came off as stupid.

Whilst there were tense scenes, there were times where scenes that should have been tense didn’t feel that way.

The mumbling.

There’s a bit of other stuff that I can’t remember right now.

It’s not a movie that I wouldn’t turn off if I found myself watching it again, but it’s also a movie I wouldn’t myself put on.
