Once More, a Polemic Related to Public Transport.

Like many people in Sydney, I feel disgruntled about the idea that some of the transport services are going to be operating semi-privatised.

Well, like some people in Sydney, as most people don’t seem to care anymore.

I’m disgruntled by it as it is highly unlikely to solve issues that are currently affecting the bus network.

You can’t do much about traffic if you don’t do much to give people a reason to catch public transport.

If prices were raised and a noticeable improvement was seen in how our public transport operated, that would be something that a lot of people would be okay with, but when prices are raised and the transport system still remains as average (at best) as always, then people aren’t going to be willing to use what is offered.

Funny that.

But I digress.

I do not want to see semi-privatisation happen unless there is an absolute guaruntee that it will provide significant improvements, whi8ch I doubt, so in that sense I guess that makes me side with bus drivers in their desire to not see the semi-privatisation happen.

However, I don’t see how pissing some of the passsengers off endears the passengers to the “plight” of the bus drivers.

When some of the services suddenly stop showing up, joining a bunch of routes that see buses randomly, yet too frequently not have buses run, people aren’t going to feel the desire to keep on rallying behind the bus services.

Perhaps it is not the fault of the bus drivers.

Perhaps.

However, when a bus that is meant to arrive around 7:20 P.M. (it may be the 7:30-something P.M. service; I’m not entirely certain, but I do know that it is one of the two) during the week seems to disappear off the face of the earth, as well as the service after it continuously running late, you’re going to be left wondering as to what is the cause.

Realistically this is only one small example. It is possible that I’m one of a very few amount of people who happen to be experiencing this issue. I have my doubts that I am the only one experiencing something like this.

If bus drivers want passengers to support them in this fight, they need to not antagonise passengers.

End rant.
