Overlooking Surry Hills

Well, some of it, at least.

To me this shot feels a bit enclosed, quiet and cold. Also a bit bare. Obviously it’s full of buildings, but there’s still something empty about it.

I do like the different styles of architecture. It makes the area feels generational, so to speak.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-seventh Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Winter“.

I’ve submitted this shot due to it being taken during winter.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This one is hosted by Leya. Next week’s is guest-hosted by Xenia.

I recommend checking out how people are interpreting the challenges. I also recommend joining in. It’s a growing, fun community.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 724: Raining Outside, Bored Inside

Alright, gotta start doing stuff. Gotta start doing the writing and push through the hurt that comes from when you fall over onto a hard surface. I can do it. I can also push through the being lazy. That is quite doable. Not sure about the being tired, however. Will see what happens.

Sitting here, listening to the rain. It is raining rather heavily at times. Not all the time. Just at times. Could be worse. Could be raining heavily all then time. At least my hands are feeling somewhat-warm.

Should try and think of something interesting to write but right now all I can say is that I’m tired and sore and it is actually hurting a bit more to write than I had anticipated. Oh well. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you have to keep on going on in order to keep on going on, or something to similar effect.

I don’t think I’ve much to say today. I think that I have less than the usual, which is to say not much. Less than not much. Less than less than not much. And so on. On the plus side, I’m writing and a few more days away should recharge the proverbial batteries. I think it should anyway.

The rain is still going and I’ve now eaten and I’m stuck inside, though there is little reason for me to go outside at the moment. I don’t feel like walking through the rain at night. I’ve done that more than enough times throughout my time on earth and would much rather avoid it where possible; especially right now when it’s cold and wet and dark and wet and cold. Definitely could spend my time better, such as inside where it is dry and (somewhat) warm. There is music and I can listen to it. The rain sounds muted and more calming in a way; or, it would if it hadn’t been going for most of last night as well as a good chunk of this morning. Right now the sound of it is tolerable but soon it is going to veer into the oppressive land and that is the lane of which I would prefer that it avoids as much as possible as I don’t want rain to feel oppressive right now. I’ve had enough of that recently and I would rather less than more. Still, at the end of the day it is not the worst thing that can happen at this given moment and for that I am quite thankful.

I guess with all of whatever I’ve just said being said, it is time to wrap this up. It is time to conclude and bring everything to where it needs to be which is somewhere between here and the final full stop of this bit of text. I guess I could try to come up with something witty and conclusive, but right now I don’t quite have the energy to think of witty closing words.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:32:36

This is more of a writing to get back into the swing of things than anything else.
The last few days have been long. I might talk about them tomorrow to some extent.

Flying Somewhere

Similar to two photos I took last year.

This feels a little less dramatic and smaller.

The rock dove seems almost as though it has no legs. It feels like it’s moving through the air without moving its wings.

I do like the clarity in this shot, as well as the dove’s form. It comes off as quite graceful.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 723: Flowing Once More

Sometimes you need to have a bit of a break in order to reset and get all those metaphorical juices flowing once more. Sometimes you just need to rest. Today was a day of rest. Yesterday also pertained to the act of resting. Now there are a few more hours left to go before sleeping, so now is the time to get everything done in a wild panic due to not having gotten enough done during the day. It all starts with the writing of this gibberish and then descends into further nonsense. We’ll see how it all turns out. Probably poorly, but who knows at this stage?

Need to set out a plan and see it through to completion. Once that is done, then the rest will happen, but of course the rest will happen only in accordance to whatever plan it is that I set out for myself. Don’t know what the plan will be yet but I’m sure that with enough work it will be… a plan.

Where am I going with this? I take a day away from doing anything (well, almost two days) and now I’m writing about nothing. I guess taking a break allowed me to continue along my usual continuation which is to express very little with far too many words under a time constraint that I seem to be quite good at getting under more often than not at this stage in my life. Perhaps I need to up the ante.

What I think I shall do from now on is find two agitated badgers, set them loose in my bedroom and try to write within the time limit whilst also fending off the badgers in whatever way I can. That might make these far more exciting and dangerous, which might lead to far greater writing. Need the constraints in order to really push things (sometimes), but perhaps this is allowing a greater deal of flexibility. Might take some of my attention away from the act of writing itself, but the writing might just be far greater than not including this sort of variability.

Of course, I need to make sure that in all circumstances I come out of the thing quite okay. If I do not make sure of this, then I might get injured and I’d rather avoid that, to be honest. Plenty of other things that I want to avoid, but getting hurt by agitated badgers is quite high on the list; especially if I have them in my bedroom with me whilst I am writing.

Now that I think about it, obtaining badgers of the agitated variety would require a lot of travel, deception and subterfuge. Quite frankly I’m not that willing to engage in the act just for one small thing and I don’t think the badgers would want to be removed from their homes, so instead of doing that I might just do what I’ve always done and just sit down and do some more writing.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:16:76

It’s cold and I need to write stuff a little less flat.

Exile Bay

Somewhat of a poor name choice for this shot as part of the bay is obscured and the focus is more on the small wharf. However, as the largest body of water in this image is a part of Exile Bay, I feel it’s still appropriate.

I think the monochrome helps to bring out the different shades and textures quite well in this shot.

I like the large amounts of space, as well as the strong sense of distance.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 722: New Ramble

So when I started writing a few minutes ago I was writing about some sort of escape from some sort of thing and that escape involved the use of a car. It wasn’t working so instead I’m now writing about this. This also is not working, but sometimes that is the way things go. Still should try to make the best of it.

So it’s a nice day outside but work starts soon. This is an unfortunate predicament to be in (well, it’s not) and unfortunately I must wear it somehow. I do need to do other things, but right now I’m wearing the preparation as that is about to commence. There will be calls, there will be laughed, there will be anger and there will be tears. This is the way that things go on the odd occasion, but also on the even occasion.

There are some sounds and some of those sounds are things that I have no control over. some I do have control over. I imagine that if I could control all sound, then my world would be less of an interesting place. It is good to not control everything. Sometimes it might also be good, now that I think about it. Depends on the situation, I guess.

I think that perhaps I put too much stock and effort into work preparation, even though I put very little into the act. Still, it is something that I like doing as it means that I go in ready and calm and… well, prepared. Rather be prepared than not prepared. Lack of preparation leads to more stress and stress is something that right now I am trying to avoid as much as possible. The job is unfortunately necessary even though it is paying very little. Oh well.

Still, maybe I should go outside right now. Soak up some sunlight. Get on with things. There’s more than thirty minutes before the commencement of the tolerating of assholes and the enjoyment of wonderful people, so who is to say that I can’t just have a short rest outside where the air is nice? Nothing to say that I cannot. Other than that there are other things that I need to do that require my being inside, there is nothing that is currently preventing me from going outside.

I think that I need to think of new things to write about, but maybe that will happen when I work more on getting out of my continual rut of which I seem to be stomping my feet in. I’m huffing and puffing and building up a lot of hot air, but the door is open and I’m refusing to step out. Maybe I’m worried about what lies outside. There are so many possibilities and I don’t feel as though I’m able to explore enough of them. Never enough time to get through everything before I need to do the earning money thing, but then again, there never is enough time for everything.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:34:35

A bit more focused than I hoped. Also mediocre.

Helensburgh Station

I think the platform’s curve came through really well as it shows part of the platform’s length.

I also like how the shade engulfs the end not under the roof. It’s an interesting contrast, I think.

I also like how the architecture contrasts with the visible patches of vegetation.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 721: Questioning and Pondering

The days stretches out and lays itself out for all to see and view, but that is not where it all leads to; not in this case. Instead over the gliding oceans do objects hover on their way toward unknown destinations. Orbital ellipses reveal themselves as finite in the view of some, but only to the slugs to they reveal themselves as a source of  knowledge sustenance to those who bathe in their guiding light.

Twisted upon turns and thrown upon the rocks are the stretching of the days but they do not mind for it is of no consequence to them. There are others who suffer for it, but in this particular instance there is no suffering whatsoever; only questioning and pondering. Perhaps it is all in the flick of the wrist as that seems to signify a transitioning of the ages. The tangible becomes intangible and the intangible becomes tangible, but who knows at the end of the day? Maybe it’s all just made up nonsense. However, so long as the skies peel back tangerine appearances, then maybe, just maybe all the frost that harbours deceit may find its own epiphany and let go of its own series of nonsense arguments.

There is always hope in that regard, but sometimes all it really takes to create a shift in change and scene is the shifting of the angle at which all who want to face something in a specific way use so they can face a specific thing in a specific way. If this angle were to be shifted, then all the massiveness that is embrace as a reality rather than a banality might become the mercurial object of desire that all who seem to want to seek may n longer seek for it no longer holds a form beyond some sort of amorphous liquid and thus can escape with little, if any effort on its own behalf. This might cause some issues for some, but for many it might just be a boon as they discover scenes that were once a practical impossibility to them due to their complete and steadfast refusal to do the bare minimum involved in turning around to see something that were yet to see.

But what does all of this amount to? The days are still stretched out over everything and still only slugs know a source of knowledge sustenance. It could lie in their sensory organs, but maybe there is a way to glean at least a little bit of information in how they perceive all of this. Maybe there aren’t, but there does need to be some sort of attempt at trying, though in order to try then perhaps the slugs need to be willing to reveal this information to us. Perhaps we need to become smaller and smaller until we feel even more insignificant, but then again so long as we’re not eating all of the walls and worrying about it, then maybe stretched days will once more leave.

I like that this is ridiculous.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 720: Warm Day

Warmth colours the room and reshapes its entire feel. Today is a warm day. Yesterday was cold. Perhaps it will soon be cold once more. I don’t know as I do not know the best way to predict the weather patterns, as well as the temperature patterns that come with the weather patterns.

What I do know is that right now everything feels warm, but it isn’t entirely warm. There still sits a large parcel of coldness in this bedroom and that is something I’m not quite a fan of, if I am to be brazenly honest.

Maybe this is a sign that I should go outside and enjoy the weather a bit more. It’s warmer outside. The sun is out and there are few, if any clouds in sight. Maybe I should go out and go for a bit of a walk. I’ve been inside a little too long at this point. Traveling about in a car does not count in my books, even though it technically does constitute leaving a place of residence.

I should go outside. I should go outside and go for a walk. I can bask in the warm light and walk around and visit parks I have not visited in a little while now. I could listen to birds and watch them fly about. I could see other people enjoying the weather. I could do a few things.

It would be good to stretch the legs and give them a good exercising. Have not done enough walking about as of late. It could be worse, but of course it could be better. I have this opportunity on my hands and as such I really should make the most of it whilst I still can. The afternoon is firmly here, but the day is still young. There still is time. There needs to be some more exercise. Need to get away from the computer for a bit and all that stuff.

Well, I think my mind is made up. I shall take that walk. However, today will not be the day as the joys of being in pain are here and I need to rest and take it easy so I can be my best. Need to make sure that I’m better and fully recovered. Instead tomorrow it shall be in which I engage in the act of moving one leg in front of another along a path in a very specific way so as to engage in locomotion in the forward direction. Today (what remains of it, at least) shall mostly be concerned with getting the writing done so that tomorrow can involve the action of moving forward.

Maybe instead I’ll cycle tomorrow. I will get up early and cycle all the way to somewhere so as to be able to catch that thing known as the rising sun. Might make for some good photo opportunities to boot.

Maybe options, but right now it’s inside and getting down and engaging in writing many words.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:13:96

More grounded than I had hoped.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 719: Sound Wave

Cold hands once more but that isn’t going to stop me from moving at some sort of speed that I may or may not consider as acceptable. I’m guided by the sounds and rhythms and maybe, just maybe I’ll slowly detach a little and find myself immersed in them once more.

Maybe I’ll slowly peel back and unravel until I am little more than a fine stretch of some sort of line and be brought into the waves of sound as they caress what was once my ears. I will become just as much a part of the music as the music is just as much a part of me.

It’ll keep spreading out and I will spread out with it, stretching an infinite length to reach an infinite distance toward a location far beyond what is visible and possible. The sounds will mix and detach and reattach and sway and swing and all those other things as it slowly becomes something so much more expressing so much less, yet still expressing something far greater than what is imaginable.

It continues to spread and change things and absorb them into its body and turn everything into sounds and sources of sounds. It builds rhythms and melodies and removes all that was so that it can become all that is.

It progresses and does not stop. There is no stopping it, for it has no tangible form and as such it is free to spread onward and outward rather than inward. However, as is the way of things, slowly it will slow down and eventually it may even retract. It will find what it is that needs to be found and once that has occurred, it will finally come to a halt and retreat back to its original form, creating new music and new sounds along the way.

As this happen it will lead to a reconstruction of everything that it absorbed. It will return things back to how they were simply because it never truly destroyed them, but merely absorbed what they were in order to create and expand this sound wave. It has no need to diminish what they were into pure nothingness.

As it goes, all is gradually restored and the sounds shrink and return to their rightful places. I am no longer stretched along and slow reforming myself. It takes a while, but eventually all is restored and the sound is back to its source, and it is as though no time had passed and nothing had changed.

Time itself had stretched out so as to accommodate the journey and everything was along for the ride, regardless of how much it did or did not want to be a part of it. All seems unaware of what happened, as am I, for I just sit here and listen to music and let myself be carried away on a journey. I did little else and I knew not what happened. All I know is that I heard music.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:21:31

Could’ve been faster. Could’ve been more flowing.
I was thinking far too much about what I was writing and I think the text suffered much more for different reasons than usual.
