Five-Hundred Word Challenge 665: Cold, Cold Morning

It was a cold, cold morning.

Perhaps a little colder than usual.

There was a need, a desire to warm up somehow, but other than putting on more ;layers of clothes there was only the choice of movement, for there was no fire and there was no heater. Movement, however, seemed like it was out of the question as there was also a strong desire to not move, even though it would be what helped the most.

Moving would mean moving through the air and moving through the air and all the molecules that made up its being would mean experiencing the cold far more than usual. Of course it would only be temporary as eventually there would be the warming up, but this still was something that was strongly against the agenda of not being colder than necessary.

It was, however, only a small hurdle. It was one that was easy to surmount, but in those few moments it seemed like the greatest mountain of all.

And so they sat there, trying to take their minds off the experience of the cold, but it kept on pressing on, reminding them that it was there and that it was present. They looked up a few sites and tried to find something they’d find interesting to read, but the cold hung around them, looking at their screen whilst clawing at whatever it could that was exposed. It almost seemed as though it was getting colder by the minute.

They kept on doing their best to ignore the cold, but it was reaching a point where it no longer could be and something indeed had to be done about the situation.

They finally gave up on the ignoring. they finally stopped and got up and out of their seat. They rose with a strong sense of determination, lifting off from where they had been firmly planted and up into an upright position, strong and steady. There was a sense of certainty in their action and there was a sense of confidence.

Once firmly away from the sitting position, they moved away from their chair and elsewhere. There was no longer a time for not taking proactive action against the cold. They knew what they needed to do. Of course they could not get rid of the cold, for the onset of winter was nearly at its arrival. They had to take other actions in order to find themselves in a position of warmth once more. They knew that sitting there and just putting on more clothes was no longer good enough. There had to be more. There had to be some sort of action that made a statement that would allow them to warm up even more. Perhaps something that could easily be done with minimal effort. That was the idea. That was the plan.

And so, with confidence they struck out and reached for the thick blanket on their bed, then returned to their chair and wrapped the blanket around themselves.

If my fingers were warmer then I’d probably have typed faster.

I think that there’s an interesting concept for a story in here. I dragged too much around the middle and toward the end.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 664: Going to Say Something

I think that, at the end of the day, so long as you have reached the peak of whatever it was that you were trying to tackle, then you most certainly can walk into the sunset all dramatic-like, but you still need to wear a suit that resists the heat of the sun as it is a bit hot and you might get burned. You don’t want to have to bathe in ice, especially in winter. That is not exactly a fun thing to do, unless of course you’re into that kind of thing, in which case it is, but right now we are assuming that that is not the case, so don’t do it unless you wear a suit that allows you to do so.

No snazzy suits for that kind of thing either, mind you. You just have to go in in this bulky thing that isn’t the most comfortable thing to wear, but them’s the breaks if you want to do these things. Of course you could just not do it and find something else to do, though that would require effort and energy and who really has the time for that kind of searching these days? Certainly not me, let me tell you. Has nothing to do with the evening being here and being all tired and worn out from jumping around boxes to look for a small object combined with driving around for a bit. Nothing to do with that at all.

But anyway, instead of walking into the sun you could just not. You could just sit at home and take solace in the fact that you had a day that was filled with the completing of the things and the things that got the completing handed to them are done, so you’re not able to rest and not feel stressed. It’s a good thing, so take it whilst you can, or something.

You’ve earned it. You’ve earned the time that you have. You can now do whatever it is that you want to do. You also could not, but you could. Maybe you should just walk into the sun so you  can see what is on the other side, but make sure to wear sunglasses. You don’t want to strain your eyes from the sever brightness. Might not be a good thing in the long run.

Make sure to wear the suit too. If you don’t, you’re not going to have a satisfying time. You’re gonna get sweaty and do you really want to have to deal with sweat throughout your clothes just from the simple act of walking into the sun? Is that something you truly want to deal with? I can tell you that that is something that I myself would not want to deal with, but that’s just me. At the end of the day, you’ve got to do you, or however it goes. I don’t know what the saying is.

Anyway, I think I was going to say something.

One Thousand Word Challenge 45: Lazy Sunday Ramble

Not enough sunlight filtering through this living room window for this kind of morning. There needs to be more. More sunlight and more words. More expression, as they say, whoever “they” may be.

Nut anyway, enough of that. There are other things at hand and at foot and it is up to me to do something about them, but of course I won’t as it’s cold and I’m lazy and what I really want to do is get into the blankets and lazy the day away, but of course I cannot do that as there are responsibilities that I need to address and take care of so I can go back to living my life and being lazy, but of course being lazy means the work piles up so that means I can’t be lazy at all and that really is a conundrum. It is a conundrum that I must tackle some how. Maybe if I get ahead of the work, then the work will be tackled, but who knows if that is even possible.

Maybe it is impossible for now, but maybe one day it will be possible to do the thing, or something.

Anyway, as I was saying, I need to do thing. There are things that need to be done. There will soon be walking and on that walking there will be the experience of life occurring.

It looks like it is a good day outside, but it also looks like a good day for writing if I am to be honest. I only say that as there are a lot of things of which I need to catch up on, but I’ve been slow and I’ve been lazy which you are all probably aware of anyway, but of course so long as I push through that laziness I can keep on going on and getting through things. However, the outside world really does await me and that is what I need to get on top of at the moment. Well, the walking, that is.

Less walking means less fitness and less physical activity, and considering that more of my day now is spent sitting down than it was previously, I need to up my game as they say. I need to be moving more than previously as there is a world out there that requires more fitness for me to be able to explore it, and by sitting here and not exploring it I am letting my time go to waste more than usual… assuming that I’m sitting here doing nothing of course, which more often than not I am. Not a good thing as far as I’m concerned, but of course this pertains to me and not everyone out there. Not sure why I felt the need to say that, but I did.

It’s cold outside, but the sun is nice and it is illuminating the world quite nicely so it is a good time to be among the birds and among the air and among the trees and so on and so forth. It is a good time to be using the legs to produce a motion that means moving forward and in a direction that I can see, and seeing as the sky is relatively clear and the sunlight is beaming down on everything, now is a good time to see in the forward direction if that is indeed possible.

Now is just a good time, though for some it might not be, so we should do what we can to make sure their lives are better. Of course we need to also make sure that our lives are doing well enough, but we also need to make sure that we help our fellow person where we can rather than just stride on y and ignore them when they are down.

But anyway, today is a nice day. It looks like it’s a nice, relaxing Sunday and that might just be what many people need at the moment. WE may need a break from things and having a break from things can be a good thing, but for me being busy after this walking will be a good thing, if only because it means I’ll be a bit more productive than I recently have been. Rather the productivity if I am to be honest. Well, I’d rather the laziness but in the writing of this lengthy ramble I feel as though I’d rather be productive, which seems to happen each time I go to write when I’m feeling lazy. Same with music. Something just switches in the brain and I get energised and feel like doing more things rather than less.

Now, there was a point that I was trying to make but I’m really not sure as to what that point was meant to be at this point.

I guess I should look for where the point when whilst I got for a walk and maybe I’ll be able to come back and tell you all what it was, but maybe there is no point and all that I’m doing is deluding myself into believing that I was trying to make a point which is quite possible. I’m good at being deluded some of the time. Not all of the time.

Right now I’m just good at sitting here and thinking about how I’m trying to finish this off but I need to go to the bathroom but that involves moving through cold air and that right now is something that I don’t want to do. I just want to sit here, but I need to go to the bathroom. That has to happen between finishing this off and going for a walk. Maybe it won’t happen. Maybe I will suddenly lose the need to go to the bathroom.

Tough decisions, let me tell you. Reminds me of a time a long time ago (about ten years ago, to be precise) where I was in the same predicament.

I came out okay.

Mount Solitary in the Rain

A shot of Mount Solitary in the rain.

I’ve looked at and taken photos of this mountain a few times now, but I’m yet to tire of it.

It’s not the most amazing thing out there, but I still find it a rather beautiful and powerful thing which is helped by the layout of the land in the area.

It was raining when I took this photo. It’s more apparent closer to Mount Solitary than closer to where I was.

I like how the rain kind of makes things appear slightly less distinct and I also like how it enhances the contrast between light and dark as it makes the scene more about shape than it does detail.

I think that Mount Solitary remains distinct in appearance which is helped by the valleys. It sticks out around the land and rises above most of the vegetation, drawing attention to its appearance.

This is my submission into the ninety-fifth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “All Wet“. I feel this photo counts as it was raining, leading to a wet landscape.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

Tina is hosting this one. The next will be hosted by Patti.

I recommend giving the challenges a go and seeing how you interpret each theme. I also recommend checking out what other people are doing to meet the challenges.

I hope you enjoy.

Quiet QVB

I had planned on doing a bit of writing today but after work I left my room and engaged in an hours-long conversation and am now just wanting to rest, but also wanting to get a photo up here, such as this one.

This was taken yesterday morning whilst wandering around the city before putting my camera in for servicing.

It’s not necessarily uncommon to see this floor mostly devoid of people, but it’s still interesting to see, especially given the current circumstances.

To be fair, this isn’t showing the area the most clearly but there still is a sense of emptiness, I think.

Other than that, I like the warm and mostly gentle lighting, as well as the geometry in the scene.

I hope you enjoy.

Out From Under

A train as seen this morning at Ashfield Station.

Whilst I do like the contrast between motion and stillness, I’m more interested in the contrast between light and dark as it makes the train almost feel different to itself despite being the one vehicle.

I hope you enjoy.still

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 663: I Should Write

Instead of sitting here thinking to myself “I should write”, I should write.

Easier said than done at the moment as I’m rather tired from the lengthy day of work and disconnections, but I’ve got to get through it as I’ve a plan, or something.

So the cold has well and truly settled in now. We had a few too many warm days in a row, but they are now a distant memory, of which I am happy as hopefully it means something a little more recognisable as a cooler period rather than a warmer period. Hopefully.

Other than that, I’m just tired. I’m tired and I’m fighting it, though I shouldn’t as I need to go to sleep soon, but I also need to get this done. Well, I don’t need to get this done, but I want to get this done, but then again it probably isn’t worth the time I’m putting into it, though maybe it is to someone, in which case I’m glad.

Still, I should take a rest. Long day, long day tomorrow and short day after that. Things to do. Things to take care of. Things I need to complete in a short period. All the stuff. You know. Or maybe you don’t. I don’t know if you don’t know or do know, but I know that there is something coming and it involves a lot of work of the hard variety, though of course it may seem like lazy work, or something.

Right now it’s just a time where I want to settle down and rest so I’m ready for the hard work of the following days. Want to rest now, can do work later. Hard work. Working hard. All that other stuff.

Long day, cold day, busy and slow whilst feeling lazy and fast. All those things and many others over a day spent mostly sitting down, though the morning certainly had its events, of which I was going to write about, though they aren’t exciting events. They just were the events of a life happening and experiencing things. Maybe I’ll write about that tomorrow. I’ll see.

Probably will forget, but if I don’t then there will be the explaining of the things and the discussing of occurrences, though not necessarily in that order. Maybe it will be in a different order. I don’t know yet. There is only one way to find out. However, that way of finding out may not necessarily come to me easily and instead I might just mix things up in a horrid way, but that too is okay so long as I manage to create something of some worth and value.

Well, now that that is all said and done I guess I’ll move on to the next part of my evening which involves more doing things and things being done before I finally put myself to rest for a period of time that involves having my eyes closed until I find myself waking up again.

Transmission Structure

I took this photo as I wanted to capture the tower’s structure.

It’s quite angular, rigid, cold and net-like, I think.

There’s a great deal of form and shape in this, though at the same time the shape isn’t variable at all.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 662: Waiting for a Break

Of course there would be a push to move on forward from the safety of the oasis. The oasis could only remain safe for so long, after all.

They had to keep on moving forward. There was no other choice, really. If they didn’t, then that which they were trying to escape would catch up, and the oasis would wither, as would their will to persevere.

It was a dangerous journey. From beyond the confines the sand was whipped into a frenzy as loose grains were picked up by relentless wind as it continu9ed its determined agenda of reducing the dunes to nothing; at least, in this location. Perhaps they would be moved elsewhere; it was too early to tell.

They sat and waited in their small, temporary paradise and waited for the time to step out. Of course it was good and all to say that they needed to keep on moving, but of course they also needed to be able to move safely. Time was on their side, but only if the winds receded sooner rather than later.

Of course they had to hope that their little pocket of safety didn’t end up too inundated by the winds and the grains that it carried. It wasn’t just a simple escape that they needed to complete, but also a persistence against the elements and a need to reach the other side of the desert in one piece.

Of course they knew not was on the other side. There had been rumours, of course, but there was no telling. Where they had left had managed to do well as for as far as they were aware, but of course the place before that and the place before that was the same. It seemed as though the desert was endless and, for the most part, quite formless.

Little pockets of towns, villages and occasionally cities would rise from the horizon. There too were plenty of areas with vegetation, as well as areas with great rock formations and landscapes, but more often than not, other than the luck of stumbling across the oasis, the desert seemed to stretch on far beyond itself, much like the horizon that it seemed so keen to meet. It just kept on going. Dunes here, dunes there, some small, some large, sometimes a flat, featureless area.

And of course, other than the rare rain, the desert could reveal its rage and aggression when it let the wind come into its being, creating an unstoppable frenzy that required more than a basic shelter.

And so they sat there and waited, hoping for their time to come. They had to keep on waiting and so they stared out, watching the landscape be blown away whilst replenished at the same time. All they could do is sit there. Every now and then, a word uttered, hoping to break the overbearing rage of the wind, but of course it was bound by the confines of waiting for the break they needed.

I think I was trying to paint imagery in a sense.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 661: Tired Rambling

So I started off writing something that seemed vaguely poetic, but it ended up getting tossed aside as I just don’t have the energy to try and find many ways to describe the evening in ways that seem poetic and imaginative.

Instead it’s just going to be brute force minimalism from here on in as I’m tired and I want to read a book and I want to get into bed, but not in that order, though that may indeed end up being the order in which things happen as sometimes that is the way the order happens. I control it, but I pretend not to. I pretend to let the whimsy of fate decide which order things will be in on any given day, though admittedly some things remain in a particular order that I don’t pay much attention to because I don’t for whatever reason that may be.

I guess that makes me think about routine to some extent. How much do we pay attention to routine? How much do we care about falling into a routine? How many out there even notice the notion of a routine? Is routine good at being obfuscating? I don’t know. There are many things I don’t know and of course this is one of those things.

Maybe I need to think more about it. Of course routine can be a good thing, but you  can’t always stick to it… unless for specific reasons you need to stick to it.

Now I’m too tired to even commit to this train of thought. Maybe I should get myself a warm glass of something and then just lie down. Skip the book. Disappear into my headspace until I just fall into a deep, unrelenting sleep for around eight hours, then wake up and get back to doing things that I need to get into so that they’re out of the way and then that’s the rest of the day done, or something. Where am I even going with this?

I think the point that I’m trying to make is that writing when tired is a tricky endeavour at times, but it too can be highly rewarding so long as you know what it is that you’re doing, but even if you don’t know what it  is that you’re doing, you might still coming up with something of a great quality, or great insight, or something.

Of course it is only a chance, but then again chance can be mitigated with work… though only sometimes.

Okay, now that I have that out of the way I really think I am going to take to my book. I need to stop. I need to rest., I need to be relaxed for the morning. The book isn’t relaxing, but it’s something along the way to relaxing and then I’ll pass out and dream of things and then I’ll just keep on repeating myself as that surely is the best way to find some sort of ultimate conclusion.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:04:06

A great deal of rambling that seems to actively avoid substance.
