Enthused Audience

During the gig over the weekend I took a few shots of the crowd.

Mostly wanted to see how well I could capture them.
I’m beginning to think that they’re an important part of gig photography.
Also, I think that they show interesting form and shape.

Here’s one of the audience shots I took.

Looking rather passionate, I think.

I hope you enjoy.

Another of those Commuter Space Situations

There’s a certain joy in making people uncomfortable in very specific situations.

It’s only in very specific situations, but I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with this kind of inflicting of discomfort on people.

Pretty sure I’ve written about this before, but you’re going to get it once more as this is something that happened this morning.

I arrived at where I’ve got to catch the bus to uni in order to catch the bus to uni so I could get to uni.

Of course there were other students there, waiting to get onto the bus.

Wait. The bus had arrived and so we were all getting onto the bus.

I took a seat which was next to one of those people that doesn’t understand that a seat for two people is not a seat for one person. As such, their legs were spread and they were giving themselves space between themselves and the wall, thus taking up a bit more space.

I sat down and, noticing that I wasn’t the whole way on the seat, gently but firmly pushed up against the other passenger. They shifted slightly, but not enough. I was just on the whole of the seat and as the person decided not to got he whole way and take up more space than they needed, I was right up against them.

It was about ten minutes into the bus trip when the person next to me started occasionally shifting which then lead to them leaning as far away as they possibly could, which revealed itself to be quite a bit of distance.

Then soon came the loud sigh, followed by more shifting around to try and make more space, but of course it led only to a minor reprieve until they properly shifted over which lead to better space.

When the bus reached its first stop at uni, the student was getting up and said “excuse me” to me and then tried to push past, but there was no space. Other people were also exiting the bus and there was no room to get up until they themselves were out of the way.

I got up, received my reward of a mean stare from the student and then sat back down when they had moved from the seat.

This is all kind of petty, but I do believe that you really shouldn’t believe that you are more important than other people. People need to be aware of their actions and the world around them and if they choose not to, then they waive the right to be surprised by the consequences of their actions.

I guess if they’re oblivious, then they also waive their right to be surprised, but that goes without saying so I don’t know why I’m saying it. I guess all of this goes without saying, but I digress.

I find it funny to see people get uncomfortable on public transport when they’re faced with having to be in physical contact with someone just because they won’t move over as often they don’t realise that the one thing that will solve the issue is that they just need to shift their whole body, or close their legs. It seems as though they cannot comprehend the possibility that there is a really basic solution to the situation. They’ll get restless and fight it by leaning away, but they won’t do the one thing that will solve the issue.

Well, not for a while at least.

Up the Incline

Titled as such due to the water going up the slight incline.

What can I say about this image that is something I haven’t said before about other images?

I think that part of the image appears to be flat, whereas another part appears to have depth.

I like that the whitewater appears to be heavily concentrated and almost looks like its pouring from the rock rather than moving up and down a narrow crevice.

I feel as though the rock fits really well with the ocean in this shot.
I think that that has a lot to do with the darker colouring of the rock.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 547: Plant Head in Ceiling

There is a window, or at least a series of windows to the left of my very being in this particular point in space and time.

I sit here. I study. Well, I do not study at this given moment, but soon the study of studying will commence.

Too many assignments, too much time, not enough procrastination.

What kind of old-found hell am I in right now?

Actually, it’s not really hell, now that I think about it. Realistically, saying such a thing is clearly a dramatising of something that can be surmounted with a lot of hard work and focus, but those are both things that I care not to dive into at the moment. Got a lot of other things that I want to do and of course my desire to float away and take care of other things is a much greater ruler in the realm of my being than the desire to get good grades and pass.

Of course, there is a large realm somewhere in there, wherever “there” may be and unless the procrastination and flights of fancy have completely taken over, then there is always a hope for fighting back and letting the focus and the drive and the desire to succeed take over.

But then that is a battle that could go on for far longer than my existence and that is one that may have no clear winner at the end of it all. A battle that sees loss on both sides, but also winning and a complete form of static that makes everything so indistinct.

Then you’d need to find a way to cut a swathe through the static as you’d need to peel it all away to try and get an idea of what is going on and cutting through something that doesn’t necessarily have a physical form is a difficult thing to achieve, so of course I’m talking about a metaphorical static as that is much more interesting than talking about a literal static; at least, for this bit of text it is.

Or is it?

Maybe there is nothing at all to cut through and all I’m doing is trying to paint an image of something that may or may not exist.

Then again, I’m not a painter, unless you consider photography as a form of painting, in which case, I am?

I don’t know. I don’t know what is going on at the moment. I do know that I am racing across the blah blah blah and there is a song in my ears. It is a song that I need to review and it is a review that should have gone up last week, but I also need to work on assignments.

I need to do a lot of things and I’m sure that if I spent less time sitting down doing nothing, I’d get a lot of things done, but there’s no time for that as I need to plant my head in the ceiling.

The Space Between the Barrier and the Stage

I was shooting a gig on Saturday.

I like looking at the space between the stage and the barrier.

I think that it’s interesting as there’s obvious reasons for the barrier’s existence, but it creates something like a disconnect between the performer(s) and the audience from a certain angle.

I think that this photo shows a bit of passion in both the audience and the band.

It was a pretty lively gig, so that should come across in the photo.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

The theme is “Fences”.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

You can find the challenges here.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 546: Banal Stuff

The low hum of the sound that should be one that is buzzing is getting me in the situation that I am currently in. Well, it’s not, but that is beside the point at the given moment.

There is a low hum. It reaches across the room and among the students, but their talking is making it difficult to hear. That is not necessarily a bad thing. I its just a thing of which I am currently noticing.

All this sound from different sources, and yet there is very little of it. Not that that is a bad thing either. Just another thing to notice.

I can notice that the carpet is patterned in a familiar pattern, but its colour is different, which kind of makes it feel like something I’ve never seen before. Of course this disregards the fact that I’ve been in this room a few times, but I think it’s interesting that it is the colour of the carpet makes it seem like something that is not familiar, pattern-wise.

I think. I’ve noticed, so I don’t know as to what I’m going on about, I think.

This room has rows of seats that fold and unfold, depending on their need. The low hum of the sound continues through the room and around us. It is pleasing, but it is prominent. Perhaps it is a sound that was designed to be pleasing. I don’t think that that is the case, but I do know that the sound is there and it is likely the byproduct of machinery that is operating.

So with all of that being said, there is a room in which I am in. The walls are prominent, the carpet is prominent and I see a desk in a corner for where the lecturer will lecture when they arrive.

I need to go to the bathroom. That is something I should do sooner rather than later, I think.

Sitting here, waiting. Waiting for the time to pass. Noticing the rows of the chairs and how they seem to hover above the ground. They don’t, but the bits that anchor them to the ground are few and far between.

I guess that they’ve been engineered to support as much weight whilst using as little material as possible.

I guess that goes without saying.

I think that soon I should twiddle my thumbs, but if I do that I’m sure that I will get into a rhythm that cannot always be sustained and the, I’m boned, as it were.

Then again, part of my composition involves bones in the body that I call my own and my composition and makeup allows me to appear as a person. That is the shape in which I am forced, but the low hum has no shape, unless we define it as having a certain shape that is the idea of one and not necessarily a physical presence.

And the carpet’s pattern is kind of distracting, now that I think about it.

More waffling!

Revealed Structure

Here’s what appears to be an old place.

A fair bit of the exterior frame is still intact, but the whole structure is quite clearly showing the wear of the effects of time.

Plants are slowly growing around it. Maybe they’ll end up growing enough to consume the structure. It’s doubtful, but maybe it will happen.

I think that the rigidity of the structure is interesting as, in a way it kind of makes the building feel stubborn in its resistance to the elements.

I also think that it shows some nice angularity in the structure.
That, combined with the colours makes for a nice contrast with the vegetation.
It kind of highlights the dichotomy of the human-built and natural environment, as well as how nature is likely to take over an area given enough time.

Still, there’s quite a fair bit of the urban in this particular area.

I’m sharing this photo as part of The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme this week is “Weathered or Worn“.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week is hosted by Leya and next week’s will be hosted by Amy.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 545: Naked in the Rain

Well, here once more.

It’s a real surprise at this point, but what would be far more surprising is if I had’t had two coffees this morning.

I need to peel back my face like the trees when the bend down to greet the lower beings of the planet of earth. Not all trees bend. Some instead ascend, instead.

But of course this is all a form of conjecture that isn’t really conjecture. Or is it?

I don’t know. Too much coffee. Racing across.

Feeling my breathing come in and out and now I’m breathing a bit deeper, hearing the sound and feeling the fill of the lungs as they expand and collapse and expand and collapse and I sit here wondering as to what it is that I am going to do when I get to the end of it all.

I sit here and wonder as to why I’m drinking so much coffee, but I need to be out there in the rain, naked and experiencing the joy of my body being enveloped in the waters from the sky as they cascade and all onto the earth, following the contour lines as they try and find the lowest point that they can, always racing down and down and down.

Yet I am inside, dry and typing away, talking about the experience that I should be having rather than experiencing the experience that I should be having.

But then again, if that was an experience that I was to have at this given moment, I’d rather be away from the city and be among the plants and vertebrates and invertebrates and be moving freely until I of course slip down a hill and realise that I should have paid a little more attention to what it was that I was doing.

Bit of a silly thing to do, but then again, there are a lot of things that can be considered silly things to do and that is merely one of them.

That is the not paying attention of what you are doing in an area of which you are unfamiliar.

Being naked in the rain is just fun.

There are probably other things that are more fun, but then again there are few things that would feel as liberating, unless it is not something that you feel liberated by, in which case I’ve got nothing to say about the matter and will probably stop as soon as I’ve found a conclusion that is suitable to conclude with.

Sometimes I really wonder as to how these must read to people that aren’t those that are me; that is to say, those people that aren’t the person that writes these things, which just so happens to be me.

Anyway, with all of that said, in conclusion, being naked in the rain is awesome. Being in an office is not as awesome, unless you have free range to do whatever you want without losing any form of fiduciary compensation.

I think.

An Evening in Burwood

Behold, a view of part of Burwood in the time period often referred to as being the evening.

I think that the scene is pretty… well, not vivid, but apparent… I think…

It’s just a really simple shot. Straightforward framing and a good idea of what the area is like after a certain hour and before another.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for last week.

The theme was “Night”.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 544: Brief Touching on Things

There’s something slightly unpleasant about sitting in a seat with the sun beaming down upon the back of your neck whilst the rest of your body remains refreshingly cooled.

This is not the most pleasant experience that I’ve had, but I’m feeling a bit lazy so it will have to remain as is for the time being.

There was an election yesterday. It was for the state of New South Wales. The voting was conducted and then the votes were counted and at least some of the results are already known, which is amazingly fast, I think.

And so everything keeps on going, people will remain angry about things, life will go on. A hulking shell of what a city should be shall continue to be inhabited and people will get on with their lives.

I will keep sitting here and do what I can to hold the government to task, as, even if the vote went another way, all government should be critiqued, regardless of how much you may or may not support them.

For now, there will be the doing of the cycling within what will be considered a reasonable amount of time. That time of course being within the next thirty minutes, I believe.

It is a nice day for it and it’ll be roughly the same amount of time as it would to just catch public transport to work.

Then again, maybe I’ll instead choose to be lazy and take public transport anyway, as that way I can rest my legs and read a book.

Life is hard. These are really complex decisions and I know not which one I should go for.

Woe is me, woe is me and so on and so forth, blah blah blah, you get the idea.

My neck is still feeling the impact of the sun, if that is anything worth noting.

Out side the sun beams down bright and shiny and upon the earth its light is being cast.

In this area there seems to be a lack of storm activity at the moment and that is something that I’m am neither here, nor there about, as it is just weather.

Guess it means that the clothes can be washed without  much issue. That’s always a good thing.

For the time being I get to sit here and beaver away at the words that I am trying to get down on paper of the metaphorical format and I will keep on beavering away!

There’s no real reason to do so, but at least it keeps my hands warm and moving.

But soon I shall reach the limit of my tether and will once more have to retreat and lick the wounds of my fingers, as there is something something and so on and so forth and here is the part where I try to wax poetic but then fail to do so as it would be apparent and there needs to be a little bit more mystery, I think.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:05:59

I was kind of going to write about the state election, but then didn’t.
Then I had nothing.

Written at home.
