Shallow Flow

A photo taken near a waterfall.

I took this photo as I liked the way that the flow (or at least its surface) was disturbed by the geological features underneath the surface. It highlights an interesting interaction between two natural features and creates for some nice “Details” and patterns.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

You can find the challenges here.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 552: Another Thing About Being Ill

So I’ve been sitting here for the lat four days feeling sorry for myself but I need tog et back into action as all this doing nothing is really putting a dent in my ability to get anything done, so I may as well write about the last four days as that is probably the best place to start with the writing of anything that is as current as current can be, or at the very least as current as I feel like being.

I’ve been ill for the last four days (which includes this one).

Well, that was a pretty easy thing to write. Don’t know what else to say, really.

Been ill. Been lazy. Need to pull the finger out and get back to doing the things that I enjoy doing, for there is no time to be lazy at the moment. There is a lot that J need to do and I do not have any time to get it all done in.

Maybe I’ve been lazy as illness breeds laziness, or something.

Cold. I think I have a cold. I’m well over this at this point. I want to be back to being healthy and functioning, but in the grand scheme I have it pretty well. I’ll recover and get back to doing the things that I do. There are plenty of people out there who have it far worse than I do and I’m sure that they make the most out of the situation that they can. I’m just sitting here feeling sorry for myself.

All things considered, I have it pretty well.

Doesn’t change the fact that I’m going to whinge about  this as much as I can, although in al honesty I have not been whinging about this at all.

Well, actually a little bit, but I’ve mostly been stoic about it, I guess.

Not much point in going all “woe is me, how could this insufferable torment be inflicted upon me?” as that doesn’t change the fact that rest and time will allow me to get better.

Just gotta wait it out and try to stay healthy whilst I wait it out. Don’t know as to how long it will take before I’m back to being better, but it does need to be before tomorrow. Otherwise I may need to take another day off work and that’s something that I’d much rather avoid at this stage. I’d much rather go to work and do the work things that I need to do than spend another day at home.

It kind of feels like I’ve had the choice of staying at home taken away (in a sense) and that is probably what bothers me the most about being ill; that I have no choice but to stay home and rest.

Technically I can leave the house and do stuff, but if I want to get better, at this stage it’s better to stay at home.

Being ill: It’s not the most fun thing.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:29:60

Probably one of the better things that I’ve written, although that’s not really saying much.

Written at home.

Hawks Nest Dunes

One of the places visited on the recent field trip.

Larges swathes of sand with a bit of vegetation (and much more vegetation behind the dunes).

I like the simplicity of this photo.

Not too much detail and the soft colouring doesn’t prevent the massiveness of the area coming through.

This is now available as a print.

I’m sharing this photo as part of The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme this week is “Something Different“.

This being a landscape is not necessarily something different for me.
It being of sand dunes is something kind of different in that it’s uncommon for me to get photos of them, so I think it counts for the challenge.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week is hosted by Tina and next week’s will be hosted by Patti.

I hope you enjoy.

Fourth Time to Smiths Lake

Got back from the field trip yesterday.

Am now ill. Not sure why. Does it matter?

So it was the fourth time I’ve been to Smiths Lake. Hopefully this time was the last time.

More research. A lot of beach profiling. A lot of gathering data. Was an acceptable time.

Was over pretty quickly, which is something that I’m pretty happy about, to be honest.
Field work is fine. It’s important to understand why we do the things that we do and what they allow us to gather, but the closer to the field trip I became, the less I wanted to be going on it as there was a bunch of other things that I needed to take care of.

Oh well.

It was nice to see Smiths Lake with the estuary entrance opened.
It was also nice to see some interesting beaches and geological features.

Probably the biggest highlight of the field trip was the person who decided it would be a good idea to assert their authority, assume some sort of directorship and start telling people what to do.

We were working in groups. Unfortunately mine had one who decided the best course of action would be to assume leadership and direct people in what they should do and how they should go about things; people who had far more experience than this person did.

People who were already in the beginning of doing what this person told them to do before they said anything.

There’s nothing like someone who doesn’t have much of an idea of what they are doing telling you how to do something and talking about how it will take less time when their method ends up taking more time; something that becomes readily apparent during data gathering with other people involved.

I’m whinging about something that doesn’t matter, but I can’t help but be bothered by it.

Well, I guess I could work toward not being bothered by this stuff, but… well… that’s for another time.

There’s just something that really bothers me about how there are people out there who have to talk about how “crazy” their life is (even if they don’t necessarily use that word) in a way that seems to be some sort of “look out cool I am” signalling.

There’s also something about how a bunch of people not helping out with cleaning a research station so everyone can leave sooner. I guess some people consider cleaning to be criminal.

On another note, Smiths Lake was particularly lovely to look upon this time around. Then again, it always is.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 551: Indemnity of Ashes

Something oily, stretching across, stretching over and reaching toward a new destination of a sort.

Tomorrow is a field trip and today is a trip into the field. The field of calls, that is.

If you are looking for a stricter form of sloppy writing, then you are looking in the incorrect place, my reader. You need to look elsewhere if you want quality, for right now the only way is down and down is coming fast.

There is no going up from here we are right now!

Riding the transport all the way down. Going all the way down toward a new destination. This destination is, of course, a new rock bottom. Need to get there, then start tunnelling. Otherwise, how else am I going to make sure that the thematic errata of the noisome structure that surrounds the indemnity of ashes will supplicate that which is not one of those?

No way to tell, really, but a whole bunch of fancy words thrown out certainly sounds fancy. Well, sometimes anyway.

Soon there will be the ticking of the clock and the passage of time will certainly take hold and reduce me to another person, but I am already another person, so would that make me an other another person?

No way to tell!

Listening, looking out, making sure that I am in a motion of smooth smoothness, but the sesquipedalian loquaciousness is not within my grasp right now so I need to keep pushing. Perhaps I need to recant.

Perhaps I need to use the word “perhaps”.

But then I don’t know as to what words that I should use. I know that I need to warm up, but I also know that I need to cool down. So many directions. So many direction. Little tapping of the keys that bind my fingers to them.

Pow that is a painful prospect. Could you imagine being bound to a keyboard and having no way to separate from it?

How would you hold things? How would you operate things?

You could probably get a film out of it and call it The Typist, or something.

Now presenting The Typist: A film about one person’s struggle to survive in the office environment.

Yes, there would be plenty of allegories and metaphors and messages, but instead of being handled subtly and well, they’d be all on the hose as that is what sells and that is what makes the big dollars!

It’s a great idea. The pain, the suffering, the heartwarming, the connection, the music that is telling you exactly what to feel… This may just be the best idea of all time.

Of course it would have to be based on a true story as that would make people more interested. There would be some who would realise that it is a dramatisation and there would be plenty who wouldn’t.

Of course, it’s all a film world and you just need to leave your brain at the door!

Maybe also your being.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:26:95

I wrote this on Thursday last week and only got to uploading it now.
Not sure why.

I think work was busy and then there was stuff I had to take care of. I think.

Then the field trip.

Anyway, here it now is. A merely okay length of text.

Written at work.

Main Walkway

Toward the end of the university day this was taken, although for most it had already finished.

The weather has had a somewhat-sudden shift and as such a number of people here are rugged up.

I feel as though everything feels really still in this shot. It is clear that the people are walking, but it doesn’t seem to come across as such.

I’m sharing this photo as part of The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme this week is “Hello April“.

I think that this photo is appropriate as it was taken on the first day of April, and the way that people are dressed is kind of representative of what Autumn is like during April.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week is hosted by Amy and next week’s will be hosted by Tina.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 550: There was Food Here

Food. There was food here. Now there are just a few bags. Two to be exact. Brown. Made of paper. Probably recyclable. Don’t know. Don’t care to find out at this very instance. Need to focus. Zoning into the zone. Zoning out of everything else. Just feeling the rhythm, feeling the flow. Letting the sounds come in and wash over me. Letting them carry ,e away to somewhere else. Feeling some sort of commitment in the sounds. Feeling the commitment of the assignments dawn upon me and dawn upon my being. Reaching out. Looking for a sunrise within myself, but of course the only one that I need to find is the one worth seeing.

Is this one ahead of me worth seeing? No, as it’s not a sunrise. It is a plain wall. There is another person here in the room, but I am speaking in metaphors, I think.

What is the sunrise a metaphor for?

I guess I’ll just say that the sunrise is a metaphor for the sunrise.

I saw a little bit of the sunrise on the way to university on this fine morning. I was at the station of trains in a particular region of Sydney.

There was no sun, but plenty of light. The sun was rising and I saw its product, but I did not see the sun. That is something that’s fine by me, I guess. I was probably too tired to appreciate it, or something.

Still got some nice shots.

There’s something nice about being at university this early with someone in my group. Need to work on the group assignment, need to work on chopping and changing it around. Need to knuckle down and get it all done, but it nearly is done which is the main thing. Need to get other things done, but this one is nearly done.

This has been a weird trimester. Time spent on buses hearing a radio host try to question the idea of electric cars being used in the future based on how they operate now. That was interesting.

Also seeing many a bus not stop as it was marked as “not in service” despite being the very bus that was meant to arrive at a particular stop around a particular time.

I’ve spent a lot of time waiting at bus stops this trimester, now that I think about it.

Now that I think about it, the trimester has not actually been all that weird. It has been pretty full, which is in a way a good thing.

Then again, there are plenty of things that may seem bad and are probably good, depending on the angle at which you view them from, such as electric cars.

Yes, based on today’s technology, they would take a lot of time driving from Sydney to Melbourne in sixteen years. I imagine that they would be much more efficient in power consumption in sixteen years’ time, seeing as technology improves and becomes more efficient over time.

This post was brought to you by not enough sleep and probably a little too much caffeine.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 549: Source of the Legs

Legs poke out from behind the screen, but he screen is not part of the body of which they belong to.

There is a thread that must be followed if one is to work out as to whom these legs are the property of.

Of course, there is a great distance that must be traveled, but the distance traveled is of course relative to the size of the traveler. Were it not, then there would be issues.

Well, there probably already are issues, but that is neither here nor there.

A great journey of perilous perils and dizzying highs must be completed. These legs have a source and the source must be found in order to discern the legs in relation to their source.

Many a character will be met on the journey and on the journey many a betrayal will be had. Allies who were trustworthy will reveal themselves to be evil, and those who were considered to be those among the ranks of enemies will turn out to be those that should have been trusted.

There are those that do not want the source of the legs o be found and they have their own sinister purposes for this. These purposes will not matter to the protagonist of the journey, but they may still cause issues.

Still, there will be the pushing past and hopefully the eventual success among the grandest of plains and the tallest of mountains, and eventually after climbing and falling and swimming and walking and many other a thing, the source shall be found.

Of course, then the journey back must be completed, for the journey is usually one that is seen as being in one direction, but of course it does include the way back. Then again, the way back is seldom one that is interesting.

Well, that is how it is thought anyway.

Once the source is found, the journey back will commence. Those who would obstruct will of course make one more attempt and of course one hopes that they will remain unsuccessful, for no one wants to see the antagonists succeed in this scenario for some given reason.

Then when the return is complete, the person who decided that the journey was one that was worth going on can reveal the information that they discovered, therefore revealing that they went on a journey of real length and arduous arduousness which would then of course lead to their becoming someone who would become just another background person, or something.

This is due to the event that, once the journey is complete, there is no need for the importance of the person anymore. Hopefully they would not be expecting to be celebrated for all eternity as, despite them going on the quest to find out the source of the legs, all that people cared about was getting the information and nothing else.

It’s unfortunate in a way, but sometimes that is the way it goes with these massive, uncompromising and dangerous quests.

I think that I’ve done better, but I do like that the premise of this is silly.

Small Waves on the River

Another Cooks River photo.

I think this is a shot very much about texture and light.

I can’t quite explain why.

The river almost looks like static in places, and the sunlight is making the shadows appear pretty full, I think.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s photo challenge for this week.

The theme is “Rivers, Streams & Creeks”.

I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit into the challenge.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 548: Where are the Drums?

So sitting here, reclined in a way that is comfortable. Feet on a table. Listening to music. Trying to dig through the sunlight to reach the screen that is in front of me. Looking for a journey. Looking for something beyond the beat that is hammering away from the speakers.

Looking for a way through the whole thing. Just gotta wonder to myself. Wonder and wandering through a thick beam of sunlight that penetrates the window nearby and leads to the brightening of the small area around myself. Leads to the things that can and cannot be. Leads to some bit of synth in this music that pulses throughout the minute area in which I am currently inhabiting. Seems to scale. Seems to be something that may lead to something else. Is that even synth? Don’t know. Don’t care. It’s pleasing to the senses at the current moment.

May not be later. Don’t know. Don’t care. Pretty chuffed.

Soon I will need to extricate myself from the situation and then do something else. Soon work will need to commence. Soon the commencing to work will need to commence. There is a day of work ahead and it will be one that has a lot of work, and yet not much work either.

This is all something that weighs… not at all on my being. Just looking for the words to get across the point. The point is that I am relaxed. There is work coming up.

Therefore, there is no point that I am trying to make, but then again, maybe there is.

What is this form of screaming that I can hear and perceive? It seems to be very passionate.

I need to get into a better position. This is not as good for the wrists as I didn’t think about.

Shifted. Beat away drum beat. Let the hair fall in front of my face. My head is now tilted. The hair is moving, but very slowly. Soon it shall obscure my vision. Soon I shall be in a world of hair. So much hair. Need no cutting. Need to move it from my face. Too lazy to do so right now. In the zone. Focused. Focusing. Sticking to the focusing on the doing of what I am doing. Much to be done. Very little to be done. Feeling around in the dark. Where are the drums? They have disappeared.

Oh. There they are, once more. What is going on with this music? Don’t know. Don’t care. Pleasing to the ears. Good old throb and flow-type thing going on. Interesting stuff. Giving it a wholehearted number out of a number.

The washing machine drones on in the background, but it is not mine for this moment, for someone else has laid claim to it as they have more need of its use than I do in the present moment.

Doesn’t congeal well with the current sounds coming from the speakers, but you don’t always win them all, I guess.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:34:75

Not quite sure what happened with this one. Just kind of lost myself in the words, I guess.
