Clouded Sunrise of The Harbour Bridge

These two images serve as the follow-up to the recent photo of Sydney Harbour Bridge during first light.

I feel like these two photos are a slight bit more muted but not diminished.

Likely due to the clouds the sunrise was kind of soft and relaxing and for that morning such a sunrise was appropriate.

I think that the way the clouds capture the light of the sunrise creates a nice contrast with how gray and dull the structures underneath appear.

I think that the water does a good job of scattering the reflection to the point where it could be seen as a vague description of what it is reflecting.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 445: A Day of Adventure

That’s it, I’m checking out, or am I?

I’ve been awake for far too long at this stage and feel as tough it is slowly doing me in.

How long have I been awake for? A little over an hour.

It is far too long. I need sleep. I may have had a good amount of sleep last night, but sleep is what I need for I am tired and being tired requires soothing with the more sleep.

I could just get up and do things that need to be done, but that would make too much sense.

A day of adventure is planned out ahead of me so right now in my down time I am taking care of business, as it were.

I am going to have breakfast. Perhaps before then I shall have a shower. These two events shall occur, but they won’t occur concurrently for me. One will precede the other. That much I do know.

After breakfast, I shall be doing the event of heading off to work for a few hours in order to do the thing that I do.

After that, I shall walk. Walk toward my current residence. Along the way I must go into an alley.

In this alley will be a door of secrets that must be addressed in a certain manner in order to be shown the rest of the way in which I will head, as opposed to foot.

From there, I shall turn around and see that the buildings were never really there, but always in my heart all along.

I will then realise that the city is my own construction and I’ve set it up as a defence mechanism to allow the running of the away from things that I felt I could not face, but with this realisation I of course will understand that you can’t run away from some things and sometimes you need to face your biggest fears in order to proceed toward something far better and bigger than yourself.

These bigger things of course being the things that were controlling what I was afraid of, so the sooner I tear down the veil of illusion that I have allowed to be cast upon me, the better.

Once this has happened the desert will finally be open and among the ruins of a once prosperous city I shall walk out and search for that which will try to claim is my redeemer and strike it down I shall, for justice is not something that is kind or callous.

This will of course show me the way further and soon I shall be in the thick of it all, looking for something that may be construed as a sign that will not so much show me the way, but give me a sense of meaning to understand, despite how meandering it may turn out to be.

I guess I have a fairly busy day in front of me, so I should probably get ready.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:03:31

Better.

I didn’t have much drive to write this morning, but once my imagination took hold, this came out and I think that it’s okay.

Not bad, not good, but okay.

The start could have been better.

I do have to admit that it is one of the few times I am satisfied with the results.

Bending Away From the Sunrise

I woke up really early yesterday morning and so I decided to leave the residence a bit earlier than usual.

Lucky for me I was able to witness the glorious sunrise of the morning.

It was one of the strongest sunrises I’ve seen in a while.

I like the strength of the blur of the train in this shot.

I also like the way that this photo has captured the sunrise and the way the colour is cast over the sky, but I don’t think that it does the sunrise justice.

Oh well.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 444: Air Con Drone Sound at Work

I need to tear my away away from the screen as I’ve been glued to watching numbers cycle.

I seem to have slowed in my typing, but only by a smidget.

We’ll see how that all pans out over the next few days.

It is a day of work. We had the air con being as loud as it could for a few hours. That was fun.

It lead to some sort of swathe of symphony that I could not comprehend, for the sound was as audacious as it was beautiful.

My head was carried along and smooshed into something and the sound was bouncing around me leading to some sort of leading to something else and the eyes could only peel back as far as possibility would allow, but you know it’s all oil when we get down to it and the static head reaches out to beat the brow back from thee sweat as I’m talking in circles about what is going on, but it is all stretching out and compacting and I’m left here wondering where the symphony will lead but I can’t even see or feel myself anymore and I’m disrupted at the subatomic level and all blurs around me, so now I’m flying off on some sort of journey as all is a blur and it all stretches out looking for some sort of reasoning, but the low droning hum keeps up its attack and attaches itself to my being and suddenly I’m no longer feeling or hearing the sound, but instead I have become the sound and I can’t even tell which way is forward anymore but my cheeks know how to do the tango and down I go onto the ground and it’s all tingling static that my face can embrace in some sort of darkened zone so long as I close off to all that is around me whilst the ground melts away and I am just there. experiencing whatever the droning experience that produces such abrasive, yet such beautiful sounds that I cannot even begin to fathom.

My ears have decided tor arrange themselves and I can only go toward some sort of thing as it all blasts around and through everything and it’s all becoming a haze of sound and notes and it all rearranges and reshapes so fast that all I can do is wait it out and appreciate the experience that is grappling with my very being and shaking me to my soul for the fear of sound is as much as the lack of fear of sound and balance must find a way, lest I be struck off and onto something else.

Then it all ends and I am back in my seat at my desk for the sound could only go on for so long before it would cease and the air conditioning resumes being its usual, non-obtrusive self and I am ready to do my job and discovering something in the memory of the sound.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:33:54

Very much based in reality.
For the first few hours this morning the air con was running far louder than it normally would.

Morning of Watery Suburbia

After seeing the sunrise whilst looking at Sydney Harbour Bridge I went for a walk around the water.

During the process of walking I took this photo.

I like that the water is distorting the reflection cast upon its surface and that the reflection of the buildings is occasionally blocked by the various boats sitting on the surface.

I also like that this picture seems both sleepy and busy and yet neither empty nor busy.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Melvins: Pinkus Abortion Technician Review

This review can be read on Cool Try.
I recommend reading the other stuff that people are putting up there if you read this here.

Anyway, here’s the review.

—–

Melvins are powering on with their abundance of Melvins albums and have recently released a new Melvins album by Melvins. Featuring some covers and some songs written by Melvins, the album is called Pinkus Abortion Technician and it’s by Melvins.

Pinkus Abortion Technician has a thick bass to most of the songs which is likely the result of having two bass players performing. It does make for an interesting rhythmic drive, but rather than push out and do a fair bit with the setup, Melvins instead play it safe and most of the time the two bass setup doesn’t amount to much more than a thicker low end. It would have been interesting to see what Melvins could have come up with had they done more with the setup, but otherwise it works for the songs.

The songs themselves are more of a lighter affair for Melvins. They’re mostly more rock oriented and have a lot less sludge, but there also are a few punk and blues moments. There is still some playing around with formula, but it’s much more subdued than on prior releases. In one way it leads to a more consistent and cohesive experience, but it’s less exploratory and a little more throwaway. Besides which, Melvins have seldom had issues with creating albums that are consistent and cohesive the whole way through.

Of course, there are some standout tracks such as the brief, punchy “Embrace the Rub” and the slower, bass-heavy “Prenup Butter”, but the one song that really stands out above the rest is “Flamboyant Duck”.

“Flamboyant Duck” starts off driven by acoustic guitar and banjo. Whilst occasionally it has some crunchier guitar, it remains quite relaxed. After about two-and-a-half minutes the song switches around. The banjo is still there and still follows a simple pattern that does little to build, but it is more sparse and tense. Gradually the other instruments come back in as well as some background sound that expands the song and strengthens the tense, uneasy atmosphere. Building around the background sound and the banjo, the other instruments become more intense and prominent, leading to a sense of unease and dread. Before hitting some sort of massive release, the song ends abruptly and the album resumes the rocking. It brings forth focus on mood, shows a good use of restraint and is performed so effectively that it may just be one of the best songs Melvins have written.

Outside of “Embrace the Rub”, “Flamboyant Duck”, and “Prenup Butter”, the songs mostly work. The covers are interesting, sound honest and to an extent fit in, but beyond that they not necessarily memorable; nor do they feel like a worthwhile inclusion. Some of the tracks are okay enough but drag a little more than they should. The whole thing sounds fun but overall it doesn’t do much to go beyond “it works”.

In talking about Pinkus Abortion Technician, Buzz Osborne has said “If you take it in conjunction with the double album, it all makes sense”, which is likely due to it being recorded in the same sessions. Viewing the album as something that is part of A Walk With Love & Death does make sense as Pinkus Abortion Technician does sound fairly similar to the first half of that record. It could work as a closing or opening third due to the lighter, less exploratory sound but it still could be seen as its own thing due to those reasons as well as the amount of covers. Furthermore to this, due to these reasons Pinkus Abortion Technician can be seen as leftovers from A Walk With Love & Death.

Whilst Pinkus Abortion Technician is an enjoyable album, the biggest problem is that it doesn’t feel like a Melvins album. That it sounds like something Melvins would do is most likely due to the fact that it’s Melvins playing the songs, but the album feels less like a Melvins album than Everybody Loves Sausages and The Crybaby. The covers fit but whilst they’re interesting they mostly indicate that Pinkus Abortion Technician may have been better as an E.P.

The album is fun and whilst some could have been dropped there are some good tracks but it feels like someone else.

Pinkus Abortion Technician can be found here.

Goat-shark

I’m somewhat surprised that until now I was yet to put this up here, as whilst I don’t think it is great, I do think that it is worth showing.

In 2015 when I was much more heavily into MS Paint than I am at the moment (although I’m working to change that around) Anna requested that I make a goat / shark combination, and so I did just that.

It’s a bit ridiculous but it still makes for an interesting image due to its simplicity and effectiveness in getting  across what it is, which is not much more than a goat-shark.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Cuts the View

There’s a pathway being built near Central and I don’t know if it’s for public pedestrian / vehicle access or for private access.

Either way, it’s obnoxious in how much space it takes up and how much it clashes with the surrounding area and, unlike the Sirius Building, doesn’t seem to serve a multi-faceted purpose.

With that being said, I think that it is interesting as to how it obstructs the view with it’s blatant presence.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 443: Procrastination Problem

Riding down the freeway, I’ve escaped all that I wanted to get away from.

The wind is blowing in my hair and nothing can stop me at this present stage of my life.

Running out of gas could stop me, but that’s not something that I need to worry about in the present moment.

So I’m here, the wind is blowing through my hair, I’ve not a care in the world and in truth I’m actually sitting in the computer lab at uni even though the semester has ended as I came here to study and instead of studying I took care of other things that I need to worry about.

Actually, I don’t need to worry about those other things. They were business-related.

Well, I don’t need to worry about them as much as I need to worry about studying.

Studying is indeed more important at the moment.

So why am I here? Why did I spend the time heading into uni when I could have spent the time travelling studying?

I guess to get away from everything and lock down on things that I need to get out of the way, but instead of the study it became other things I’m trying to tackle.

On the plus side, there has been progress, but now I’m in here bashing away on a keyboard as I don’t have much time left before I need to head off to work to do the customer service thing which will then be followed by going to a gig in order to listen to the music and knock out another review of a band I’ve not heard of before, so that will probably lead to something, which will inevitably be a review unless I choose not to go down that path.

Now, where was I?

Oh, that’s right… I’m in the computer lab at UNSW.

I think I have a bit of a procrastination problem today.

I think it is due to the excitement of getting things done… maybe?

I know that it is due to something. I have been focusing on othger things that I’ve put aside for a little too long. Perhaps I can balance this all out with doing uni work at work, or something.

I shouldn’t but if I can use my time in such a manner, then I may as well use the time so long as the manner allows such a thing.

So long as I avoid living in a fantasy that is not particularly one that I’m enamoured with, I think that I would be able to get a fair bit more done than I’m allowing myself to believe.

I guess that there’s only one way to find out, and that is through actually doing the uni work whilst at work and not letting the calls frustrate me as taking calls is what I’m paid to do, after all.

I know I’m not paid to live in the cliché of driving a car around the coast fantasy.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:54:22

Not too bad.

A bit banal, but not too bad.

Of course, the text could have been much better.

L01

There is a large boat in this photo.

This naval ship kind of reminds me of a large building. I think that it has to do with the shape of the thing.

It doesn’t look flashy and appears to be fairly practical and professional, which I guess that, in conjunction with it’s large size indicating perhaps the same thing, might be the point.

I like how the light falls on the boat and highlights different parts of its outside.
I also like how despite there being a fair bit of details, the boat doesn’t look ornate.

This is my entry into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.
The reason that this one is of a boat is that the theme for this week is “Boats” due to this being the first Thursday of the month, as every first Thursday of the month is a themed M.M.

If you are a photographer, then I recommend checking out Monochrome Madness and consider participating in the event. It’s been going for a few years now and it’s a fun way to be part of a small photography community.

I also recommend that you check out Leanne’s work outside of Monochrome Madness.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
