Rant About People Getting onto a Bus

So the other day I was catching a bus. I cannot remember as to why I was catching the bus. I was probably heading to work. I imagine that that was indeed the case.

I was catching the bus to get to work. I think.

Wait.

I was waiting for the bus so I could get to work. The bus arrived and I saw that someone was getting off so I waited for them to get off before I hopped on.

It seemed that the other people waiting at the bust stop did not seem to have the same priorities. One of them hopped on, saw that the person was getting off, paused for a brief moment and then walked past them. Then everyone else waiting walked passed the person trying to get off the bus, leading to them having wait before they could get off the bus.

Since when the fuck was it that people thought that the best action is to, instead of waiting for people to get off a vehicle, walk on and not let them get off until there’s space for them to get off the vehicle?

Where did people’s manners and patience go?

The fuck is wrong with these people?

I know it’s not a big issue, but it’s not that hard to be polite and show a little bit of respect for your fellow person and let them exit public transport before you decide to get onto public transport.

It is not that hard.

Now that I’ve said all that, I think I do know what is wrong with people who think that this is an appropriate action.

I think that people want it both ways. They want to be able to be as selfish and willingly oblivious to those around them so they can benefit themselves, regardless of how much of an inconvenience they make themselves whilst also wanting people to kowtow to them so that they themselves are not inconvenienced.

I have a suggestion for people who think that this is okay. Just one. For now.

How about you show a bit of respect for your fellow person and realise that you are as small and insignificant as everyone else on the planet?

I know that it’s pointless ranting, but this kind of behaviour really pisses me off.

Statue of Queen Victoria

Not too sure as to what the goal was here.

I think that I was just trying to get a good photo of the statue.

I think I may have made the image a little too dark, but I do like the way the light tone makes the details of the statue appear.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

I strongly recommend checking it out to see what other people have submitted, as well as checking out Leanne’s work outside of M.M.

I also recommend submitting and being part of M.M. It’s a fun, community-driven thing.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Silver Gull Goes to the Water

Another test photo.

I don’t think I did too good a job both of processing and taking the photo.

I think it’s a bit too bright on the bird.

With that being said, I do think that this does give a sense of motion and form.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 371: Ill Day

So I’ve been sitting down at my desk at home all day as I’ve been a bit ill and I’m thinking about how much I could have gotten done today and yet I probably would not have done much had I done anything else other than sit here, watch stuff and play a few games.

Thems the brakes, as they say. In this case, is that what they say? I don’t know at the current moment of existence.

Relaxing has not been too bad a thing, although I do wish I was doing it not due to feeling ill and being in a bit of pain. Still, I will survive. Always do, sometimes.

I wonder if there was a situation in which relaxing would be completely detrimental to my ability to do the things that I do.

I probably should go outside at some point. I can’t sit here forever, after all.

I could go for a walk and see how I hold up.

I could do that. It is probably a good idea for something for me to pursue.

If the breeze picks up enough, then I likely will go outside at some point today.

Even if it does not, then I shall still go outside, for there is reason for me to venture outside my bedroom and outside of the house and it is that reason that shall get me outside and doing things in order to progress through a bit more of life and become some sort of better person.

Eventually I will advance to a higher level with all of the experience that I would gain and therefore evolve into something else. Probably middle age. It’s a pretty sweet evolution where you get to whinge about how young people need to stop whinging as the situation that is bad is not actually bad and that they need to work harder and shut up as getting something isn’t hard whilst at the same time completely ignoring the massive benefits and opportunities you got handed to you.

Well, that’s one evolution. The other one is not so sweet. The other one allows you to have a realistic view of the world  and the situations that everyone goes through. I’d rather have my head in the sand, thank you very much.

Of course, this will take a lot of going outside and doing things, but there’s a lot of water to cross before there can be any announcement of a path for which I would traverse in my very life of merriment and joyful lack of joy.

And even before that, there is more work to be done, such as the wearing of the pants and the accepting of the consequences of my being ill, such as the repeated understanding that I need to take better care of myself if I want to make sure that I stay on top of things.

Well, that and a… no, I need to take better care of myself at this point.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:04:98

Not sure as to what I was doing here.

I think I was trying to express my being ill and did an okay job.

I think.

Written at home.

They Might Be Giants: I Like Fun Review

It seems that They Might Be Giants like fun. It’s a good thing if that is true, as they titled their new album I Like Fun, which could be taken at face value, as well as not taken at face value.

Is I Like Fun any fun?

The album starts off quite directly. No kind of intro; just straight into the main body of “Let’s Get This Over With”, which may have been the point. With its rather light, upbeat and quick melody and deceptively light-sounding lyrics, the song is an appropriate opener for the album, although it could have worked just as well as a closer.

The rest of the album is similar to the opener in that they lean more toward T.M.B.G.’s pop elements than they do their experimental, although there are certainly times where the more experimental parts come a bit more to the front, such as on “I Like Fun” and “McCafferty’s Bib”. In these moments some of T.M.B.G.’s stronger songs are found, but otherwise the songs are well-written and performed. There are no signs of over-performing and in some cases the instruments underplay various parts. Overall there is a fair bit of attention to detail that gives the songs a good amount of life.

As always, the lyrics are a fair bit more serious and humorous than they sound, although on I Like Fun they do still feel a bit lighter than usual. If there’s one thing that T.M.B.G. are good at doing, it’s doing a good job of disguising their subject matter and on I Like Fun they succeed in that quite well. “I want to say I learned something valuable today / Alas, my murdered remains are incapable of learning anything” may not immediately register due to the poppy overtones of the tune to which they are a part of, but it (as well as many other lines) work far better with their songs than they should.

They Might Be Giants have been lucky enough to have a career that has outlasted many bands that have come and gone since their beginning. Not only that, but they’ve also been lucky enough to have that career full of albums that are generally quite good both on a surface level and in a deeper search. I Like Fun continues that trend. It’s consistent, well-written and strong with plenty of clever lyrics and interesting melodies.

As with many of their previous albums, I Like Fun contains within it enough to satisfy fans who want to go deep or stay on the surface, as well as enough to draw in new ones.

Sandbanks

Another photo taken whilst flying back to Mackay from Avoid Island.

I like the way that the sandbanks seem to be like rolling hills, as well as how they stretch out and elongate whilst the water separates them from each other.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 380: On the Acceptance of Weirdness

You know what really grinds my gears?

The whole idea that it is cool to be weird, as it seems to be to be some sort of fastidious grooming to look weird, as few people actually seem to like weird. They just like the image.

I think that it is fair to say that I’ve been weird most of my life. Possibly. I don’t know.
I used to be bullied for being weird. That’s how it was. Being weird was seen as something undesirable when I was growing up. It’s also something that’s lead to a lot of distance between myself and others and generally it leaves me left out in a lot of groups.

That’s not a complaint. That’s just the way life is sometimes. Not much you can do other than keep on living and being who you are and all that.

So at this point in time, people love the weird. Well, that’s at least what they say. They love weird things and love weird people.

It might be cynical to think, but I don’t think that people who claim this actually do love weird things. I really think that they’re trying to keep some sort of scenester / hipster image going in order to be cool, as most weird people are still left on the outside and not included.

Does anyone know why “weird” people are weird? It’s not due to their love of things that most people perceive as weird and try to stay away from as they cultivate their image of weird. It’s due to their attraction to things that may have been a part of their whole life.

It might be to them acting the way that they act due to finding their own place in something and choosing to be who they are.

These people (usually) don’t try to shape an image to present to people. They just do their thing.

Now this might seem as though I’m setting goal posts, but I’m not. I see a whole lot of people who claim to be weird putting on a facade almost as some sort of attempt to fit in, as it’s cool to be weird, just like it is cool to be a gamer.

Meanwhile people who are weird are still kept away from as they aren’t desirable. They’re not cool. They’re not people to be around.

Of course this does exclude weird people who are accepted, but that’s not the point. There’s a lot of weird people out there who are ignored by far too many people as their being weird is not considered socially acceptable. A lot of them don’t have to even be too weird for this to kick in.

There are worse issues out there, I will admit.
However, I can’t help but be frustrated by the whole adoption of image of people instead of actually accepting the substance of people.

I don’t understand why people do this. All it does is perpetuate a hollowness that shouldn’t be acceptable.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:05:65

This was much calmer than I thought it would be.
I don’t think I’ve made a strong argument.

It most definitely is a rant, but it could have been much better, I think.

Written at work.

Low Cloud Takes the Tower

So here’s a photo that I took of Centrepoint Tower during some low clouds hanging over the city.

I think that it makes the tower look a little more ominous and unsettling… kind of.

I like the way that the tower disappears almost entirely behind the clouds, as well as the way that the sign on it brightly tries to get through the cloud cover.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 379: Silence is a Powerful Thing

At the moment I’m reading Landscape of Farewell. It is a book that I should have read when I was doing Australian Literature in the first semester of last year as it was part of the course, but I did not read the book. I intended to for the longest time and am now reading it and I must say that, despite some things being really on the nose for no reason, I think that it is a good book.

However, as with most books pertaining to serious subject matter, it is making me think a little too much about my life and my current situations. Such is the way of things, I suppose.

In the book, the power of silence is explored in what can be described as an unflattering light and it is this that probably resonates with me the most.

Silence really is a powerful thing. It can be a hurtful, painful experience, not just to those that are silent but also to those that are on the outside.

I am on the outside.

Of course, being on the outside I can only have the perspective on an outsider, but even though I am keenly aware of that, it is still this that assists in forming how I feel and what I think about one situation.

Silence can be, for some a rejuvenating tool as it allows them to look inward, but when, to someone on the outside that silence feels as though it is directed, then it can really hurt.

I can be misreading this situation. I have to openly admit to that. That does not do much to change how I feel.

I genuinely believe that talking about things is much better than remaining silent. There is a time and place for silence, but I think that talking about issues, tensions and problems is much better for dealing with them than remaining silent.

Too much talking can always be an issue. That is not something that can be ignored. However, not talking about things can be, in many ways a lot worse. Too much talking can be circumvented. Silence can be a most stubborn thing and prevent any progress form being made. It can lead to things being carried for far longer than they need to be.

There needs to be a balance found.

Sometimes I wonder if I talk too much.
Perhaps that is driven by my life having far more silence in it than I would wish.
I do not know.

I think that I’ve just had too much stress in my life from silence. As said before, it is a powerful tool. It can have a most crushing weight, both on someone being silent and those on the outside.

Perhaps it is due to communication being one of the most powerful tools that we have at our disposal. Many issues, if not understood by two or more people can only find resolution in communication.

In these situations, silence can only prevent resolution.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 12:04:14

Slow. Don’t care. I think that in some ways this is one of my better pieces of writing as I was much more thoughtful as I was writing.

Star of the Show Ferris Wheel

The Ferris Wheel at Darling Harbour.

I imagine that some “Tour Guide“s have brought tourists to this spot as it is kind of nice to look upon.

I like how the wheel appears at this angle, as well as the difference in light on either side that can be seen.

I think that in this photo the wheel almost appears as though it is looming over you.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week. I hope you enjoy.
