Five-Hundred Word Challenge 335: I Want to Explore Many Islands

There is an island somewhere that I want to visit, but I do not know where it is as there is not just one island that I want to visit, but many.

I can only wonder if there is enough time in my life to go everywhere I want, or if there is enough money if time is not an issue.

Perhaps are both issues, but there are things that I need to try and overcome in order to do what it is that I want to do.

There are many islands scattered over the world and I can only wonder as to the best plan of action to get me to them as quickly and efficiently as possible, whilst also making sure that I am as safe as I can possibly be.

There are many islands that I want to explore with my camera and take photos to catalogue as much of the world, both natural and artificial as I can.

Thankfully many of the island that I want to explore are natural.

The semester is coming to an end.

Correction: The semester has ended and exams are fast approaching.

I do not think that I am prepared enough, but I will still give it a go.

I know that once exams end work will be quite busy which means I’ll have a few weeks of getting more shifts than usual before I head off to an island off of Mackay to do some more study and learn how to do some practical research.

Well, learn how to do more practical research.

Of course I will have my camera with me and will be snapping away at whatever I can.

There will be no swimming, but there will be plenty of exploring.

I want to go off and explore islands, but right now I have to be at work. It is not so bad, but it does slow some things down.

Still, I enjoy my job somewhat so that is a bonus.

It does not beat exploring as much of the natural world as I can.

Bushwalking is an interesting thing. It allows us to experience some of the natural world whilst generally still being part of something that is somewhat urban in that a path has been created in order to allow for us to explore those parts of the natural world we can easily access.

I guess it would be more accurate to say urbanised.

I don’t know.

With that being said, those paths generally remain paths as people keep on travelling along them which is not necessarily a product of urbanisation, but features items that exist due to urbanisation…

I don’t know as to what I’m going on about anymore.

Suffice to say, There are islands out there. There is at least more than one island out there that I would very much like to explore.

Right now I have to work, but perhaps one day I will be able to fulfill this desire I hold.

I think I was doing pretty well until close to the end where this kind of fell apart.

Oh well.

Could have been better overall. Needed more drama.

Warden Head

I was trying to capture the wind blowing across the water when I took this photo and I think that I managed to do so with some success.

I think that there is both a sense of motion and stillness in this photo.

I like that you can see waves in the background and almost get an idea of their size.

I also like how the cliff face came through with a lot of detail whilst almost appearing as though it was a silhouette.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 334: A Horse Named Schrog

Once upon a time, in a land far from where I am currently sitting there was a horse named Schrog.

Schrog was a noble horse of grand stature. Well, at least that is what Schrog was considered to be, for what Schrog really liked to do was get down and dirty, creating a mess and running afoul of things, for whilst he was a horse of grand stature, he was also a horse that liked mischief and did not care for the machinations of people.

It was very difficult for people to ride Schrog. It was not difficult for people to approach him, but it was always difficult to ride him, for he did not enjoy the act of being ridden and much preferred to run wild and free at whatever pace he so desired to run.

Of course this caused all sorts of problems for there were needs for horses to get around the area with quick speed and horses in the area were usually few.

Some people had accepted that Schrog was not going to change and become more complicit, whereas others kept on trying and kept on failing.

Despite it being likely that it was better to let Schrog be Schrog, the ones who kept on trying to get Schrog to be more complicit  kept on trying due to one thing: Schrog was the best horse in the area and not by an insignificant amount.

There was no getting around the fact that, whilst the horses in the area were fast and nimble, Schrog was able to outpace them with ease whilst also keeping the ride feeling comfortable.

Schrog seemed to glide through the air whilst still being able to maneuver around objects with ease. He would be able to take turns without losing too much speed, knew when to stop and when to slow down without fail.

The few that were able to ride Schrog were unable to find themselves anything less than impressed and could not help but talk about the experiences that they had, despite how few and seemingly random they were.

One day, when everything seemed all okay and uneventful, there was an emergency that had arisen.

People needed to travel far across the land in a short amount of time and none of the regular horses were up for the task.

Of course, the only horse that could get across the land quickly was Schrog.

Of course, Schrog being Schrog, didn’t care whatsoever and did not want to be ridden.

People were not happy about this and so they took out the regular horses.

A few days later they came back, successful in their support and quite dissatisfied with Schrog.

At this point they did not care that Schrog was a noble horse of grand stature. They had had enough of this horse that did not like being ridden, so they approached Schrog and prepared to capture him.

Of course Schrog easily noticed this, kicked one of the people and took off.

Could have been faster, but I’m not too fussed.

Really struggled with this.
Kind of satisfied with the result.

I can’t decide as to whether Schrog is a good or terrible name for a horse.

Between Apartments

A couple of months ago whilst walking through the city with a friend after work I took this photo of The Centrepoint Tower looking both massive and short, probably due to only getting a “Peek” of it due to the buildings blocking a complete view.

I like that The Centrepoint Tower lines up with the apartments as well as contrasts quite a bit with them, being far less block-like in its appearance.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

From Knapsack Hill

This is another photo from the first field trip of this semester.

I like that there’s a few different shades of green, as well as how the land dips and rises.

I like that the clouds are making the sky look layered.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

As this is the first Thursday of the month, M.M. was themed and the theme this week was “out in the open”.

If you’re a fan of monochrome photography on any level, then I recommend checking out Monochrome Madness and I also recommend considering submitting if you do photography.

I also recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s work outside of Monochrome Madness.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

A Trio

Three pied oystercatchers walking along as seen in a caravan park whilst on a field trip.

This was the last morning of the first field trip of this semester.

I like that their legs are in different phases of a step.

I also like how in a way they seem elegant.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 333: Stuff, Including Something about Exams

It’s the afternoon and I have not written anything down other than lecture notes.

That is not a good start to the day.

Well, a good start to eh afternoon, nor the morning.

Still, it is early in the afternoon, so there is plenty of time to write whatever I want, whenever I want and however I want to write it, if I do so feel so inclined to commit such an act of uneventful events.

What am I even going on about right now?

I don’t know.

Well, here I am. Here. Not there. Here. Until I am there.

There are many lectures to plough through today as I need to catch up on a lot of missed work an opportunity so I can do well in exams, followed by a brief break in the monotony (although it is not as monotonous as I had hoped), followed by some adventuring up north where I go to look at turtles for seven days as well as some ocean that I cannot swim within due to it being filled with dangerous jellyfish whilst also being on an island with death adders.

Fun times for me, let me tell you.

Well, it [probably will be a bunch of fun. Some hard work, but fun regardless.

Right now, however, I am confined within the cold walls of my bedroom which has been cleaned for once, although that was yesterday.

I am sitting here, hearing a lot of abrasive noise and it is quite good. I would say the quality of this abrasive noise is of a good quality and achieves what it sets out to do, which is be music in the form of songs that are shorter than twenty minutes.

What a review.

I’ve probably stated this somewhere on here before, but I do not quite enjoy exams. Yes, they serve a purpose. I think it would be better if students of the sciences were tested entirely on their practical application of the knowledge that they gain.

I do not consider a practical exam that involves going around a lab and identifying things whilst writing notes about them a practical application of knowledge. To me, that is a regular exam with visuals.

Still, they are somewhat useful.

If exams had to remain part of a curriculum, I would have their weighting reduced significantly in favour of practical application. It’s great to teach people that they need to remember certain things, but if that knowledge is applied in conditions that were not exams and instead genuine practical ways (report writing, research, etc.), even for undergraduates, then students would be likely to excel a lot more due to being able to retain more of what they are doing by putting it into practice.

Well, I guess that that is my little rant done for the day. There’s probably more to come, but right now there’s nothing else that I have to say, so I am going to get back to doing some other stuff.

The Church: Man Woman Life Death Infinity Review

It has been a long and somewhat “illustrious” run for The Church, managing to outlast many of their contemporaries by a significant amount of time. Still releasing albums and touring regularly, The Church do not seem to be showing signs of stopping, especially now that Man Woman Life Death Infinity has been released.

Cinematic seemed to be some sort of driving force here, whether intentional or not as most of the songs feel very cinematic and expansive in their sound. There’s plenty of breathing space, but there’s a way that the songs flow both in themselves and in conjunction with each other that, combined with Steve Kilbey’s lyrics which seem to be evoking imagery more than they are trying to provide meaning, come across as though they are painting something a little grander in scope than what they suggest on initial listening.

There’s a lot of lush and airy sounds following the rhythm that usually add to the songs quite well whilst the vocals mostly follow suit and seem to sit far above everything else. There’s a bit of vocal processing that sometimes works and sometimes is more distracting than it should be, but otherwise they work well with the various sounds that come into each song.

Well, it’s The Church sounding lush, atmospheric and cinematic. As always there’s solid work on the songs. Man Woman Life Death Infinity is an album that is not weighed down by its missteps, as well as an album that is a welcome addition to The Church’s discography.

Cows

Here are some cows.

I like the way that they are positioned in this photo, as well as their form.

Not much else to say.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 332: A Lovely Morning for Sculpture by the Sea

It is a lovely morning this morning and I will be going to see Sculpture by the Sea for the first time in a while.

Exams are coming up, but I don’t care! It is time to relax, or something.

I want to see what people have put out into the world and see how they comment on their surroundings.

I want to look at all the things that people have made and take photos. Lots and lots of photos.

There will be so many photos, that I will have taken too many. Oh no!

It is that time of year where I should be studying hard, but right now I feel as though I need a day of very little study. However, there will be study involved a little later on in the day.

It is currently dark in my room. That is due to the blinds being down. They block the light and prevent it from getting inside.

It is keeping my room nice and cool and I don’t mind that too much.

In fact, you could say that I don’t mind that at all.

It will be a lovely day that involves the viewing of sculptures as well as a quick swim at a beach of mutual choosing between two individuals.

The water will be nice and I am looking forward to the swim. It is possible that I am looking forward to the swim more than I am looking forward to being at Sculpture by the Sea, but at the same time it is possible that I am looking forward to the latter more, or perhaps I am looking forward to both equally.

Who knows? It is a mystery at the moment. It is a mystery that shall be unraveled by the time I am where I am going this early morning.

There is so much mystery that the only way it can be found out is by going to the location.

Once there, there will be knowledge revealed as I walk across the sands toward some sort of thing that is ahead of me.

Alright, so I am rambling right now. That’s okay.

I probably should be doing other things, but this is once more for warming up rather than getting the stream-of-consciousness writing trained and sharpened, like a beak on a bird of prey as it soars through the air, waiting for the right time to strike its target, then taking a  dive faster than most people usually move, cutting through the air as though it was sliding around in velvet cloth before catching its prey with the grace of something that is far more graceful than I could ever be.

Yes, that’s exactly what this is like.

Well, I guess I should start getting ready, for there is much to do and little time to do it all.

Yes, that is what I will do. Very shortly. For now, I must finish this off with some words that help tie this all together.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:49:78

So I didn’t really have anything to write about.

Surprising I know.

Eh. this was alright. Could have been better, but it is alright.
