Wharf in the Royal National Park

There was a brief stop in the Royal National Park when two of my university colleagues and I were heading back to Sydney from the marine science field trip.

I saw a part of the area around Audley Weir that I had not seen before.

I like the angles and lines in this photo, how the colour on the wall appears to be in layers, the brightness of the sky contrasting with the trees, as well as the texture of the water.

I also like how far removed from the city this feels.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 331: I Can Spell

Why do customers feel the need to spell out the most basic of names, and even then some of the less basic but still obvious spelling names?

Why do customers seem to think that it is okay to assume that you do not know how to spell?

Do they think that it is okay to think that we are incapable of doing some ot eh most basic of things that our job requires?

I don’t get why they do it at all.

Yes, this is a bit of a rant today, but I don’t care. It has been bothering me for a while.

I think it bothers me because, generally it seems that I know how to spell much better than most of the customers that I speak to and it frustrates me when they insist on spelling a word such as “street”.

I know how to spell street. I don’t need you treating me as though I have never learned how to use or spell words, asshole.

It seems so condescending, especially when they are calling up for the help of customer service.

Why can’t customers just wait until we ask how to spell something instead of assuming straight away that we aren’t capable of functioning in some basic manner, being drooling idiots that can’t even do basic things?

It’s like the customers who seem to assume that, because they are much older than you, that they know more about your online system than you do.

No, you don’t. You’re an idiot. Shut up now and defer control to the person you are calling for help, because the only thing that you’re good at doing is wasting our time.

Stop it. Stop it now.

To be fair, I’m sure that most of the customers that we deal with don’t have attitudes that they are superior to the rest of us because they know how to spell the name of a cheap budget wine that almost everyone will call about and I don’t think that most customers think that they know more about our systems than we do, but this does not make the spelling or their generous expression of knowledge any less frustrating to deal with, because it usually does not lead to anything other than a waste of time.

Seriously customers, stop spelling stuff unless we ask for confirmation of the spelling.

If you’re going to insist on spelling everything out, then don’t say every individual letter like someone is really slow, because all you’re doing is treating someone like an idiot.

No one appreciates being treated as though they are an idiot, even if they are an idiot.
Customer service representatives who are trying to help you really don’t like being treated like an idiot.

One of the worst things that you can do to someone when they are trying to help you is be disrespectful from the get-go.

Well, at least I can look forward to the day when people start spelling their date of birth.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:26:06

I wrote this yesterday.
It’s something that I’ve occasionally thought about.

Not great, but I think I got my point across clearly.

Cormorants Over Water

This is another photo taken during the Msrine Science field trip.

On the morning of the last day I went for a walk along the beach and took some photos, with this being one of them.

There’s something really powerful about the form of a bird when it is in flight.

I hope you enjoy.

Geostorm Review

Geostorm is a film that features Gerard Butler, Andy Garcia, Ed Harris, Abby Cornish, and some other people who act their way through the film.

Alrighty, here goes:

The world was going to shit due to extreme weather, so instead of people turning their ways around, Gerard Butler and his swarthy team build a satellite system to control the weather.

Then Gerard Butler loses control due to being a rogue and his younger brother gets control.

Then a few years later Gerard Butler is called into action once more when things start happening to the space station that controls the satellite system.

This movie was so bad and I loved almost every minute.

The acting is mostly serviceable, some characters make some incredible leaps about why someone did something…

The child actor is bad. “He’s going to come back because he promised”. Kid, Gerard Butler only came back because he rode in a satellite that was found whilst the space station was exploding.

“You get us a car. I’ll get us a president.”

One of the most glorious moments, said by Andy Garcia: “I’m the president of the United States”. Yes you are Andy Garcia. Yes you are.

Almost every line of dialogue is on the nose without fail.

Timer before the titular Geostorm (yes, it deserves to be treated as a proper noun) hits, which surprisingly gets stopped at the last second by Gerard Butler.

Airplane falls out of the sky due to being frozen to try and kill some lady who runs into a dead end street in order to run away from an instant-freeze cold wave that started just off of a beach that seems to be able to get everyone, including seagulls which rain from the sky except for her and of course the plane does not hit her but instead hits the ground near her.

There was a dog that appeared near the end, which left me feeling relieved because I didn’t know if I was meant to care or not until that point. You can imagine just how relieved I was when the dog survived.

Gerard Butler variable beard length.

Characters introduced as though they’ll be important but have little to no purpose. Of course, one is evil.

Extreme weather events disappearing very quickly after the Geostorm is prevented.

I don’t think I’ve seen such a large amount of water recede that fast.

The satellite system is capable of using a heat death laser.

Guy in a mini car manages to outrun a heatwave earthquake but later dies by getting pushed into traffic.

Cartoon spaceship.

I give Geostorm a 10/10. It was sooooo bad. So wonderfully bad.

Patterns in the Platform

Patterns in a rock platform.

Caused by erosion.

Water contrasts with geology.

It almost looks like river flow.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 330: More Assessment Procrastination

Well, here we are once more on a nice day of wet weather, studying for more stuff, but this time in a group as group work sometimes helps. Sometimes.

It is helping right now, but probably because we’re bouncing a lot of questions off of each other. We want to make sure that we know our stuff. I just want to go home.

I want to go home, play my guitar and make some music. Perhaps I want to do other things along with making music and playing my guitar. I do know that I do not want to do any more assessments right now. Right now I want to rest. I want to unwind. I don’t want to study.

I want to whinge into the night, forever barking at the moon until there is nothing less to bark at because I do not want to do any assessments right now.

Still, assessments must be done and I am thankful for being in this group right now, for the bouncing of questions off of each other really does make things much easier.

Do I think I will pass?

No, no tat all.

do I think that I will get at least one question correct?

Yes, yes I do.

Do I feel calm and confident about my chances?

Well, calm. I do feel calm. Probably more calm than I should feel. Probably because I lack complete confidence in my ability to succeed and I am fine with lacking any confidence in my ability.

Right now, I am sitting here, listening to the questions whilst I bang away om the keyboard, for writing helps me warm up and feel a lot more calm than I normally would.

Had I not been typing right now, I would be freaking out much more than I should and that would of course affect my ability to learn and study.

There are only a few hours left to go before the time to see if my knowledge will truly be good enough to help me succeed where others have failed, but sit;ll I am here. I am preparing by not doing their work whatsoever, which somehow helps.

Well, I said why before,  so I  shall keep on going.

It stormed this morning which meant that I did not have to water my plants which makes me happy. However, one of my plants was knocked over during the night. However, it has been sat upright once more and shall make a speedy recovery, not that there was much recovery to make.

So my plants are doing well, you could say.

My washing has not been done, as it was done a few days ago when it was not raining.

It isn’t raining right now. I am inside, dry, but I am sweating due to the furious rate at which I am typing.

Well, I really should get back to it so I can gain more knowledge in order to answer two questions, at the least.

Study time!

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:15:79

Could be better. Still, I think I got my whinge across.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 329: The Procrastination Beast Returns

Fun, excitement, games.

It is back and with a vengeance it cuts swathes through my armies that were set up to prevent it form arriving.

I have an essay to write and I don’t need the almighty beast looming over me once more.

Oh yes. It is that one. The one with the unmentionable name.

The one that comes and stalks me in the night when I need to sleep or study. The one that comes during the day when I am preparing to write for lengthy periods of time.

the one that terrorises the women and tortures the men.

It is the one know by only one name:

Procrastination.

Without fail it has returned. Nothing could stop it from awakening from its slumber, for it chooses as to when it will rise. There is nothing that will prevent it from doing so. It may be prolonged, but eventually the evil beast of burden will rise once more to wreak havoc on everything that it can before it goes back to rest.

This is a cycle that has been occurring for far longer than we can imagine. It is like life in that it is a continuous cycle that seems to have no end in sight.

Perhaps one day it will, but for now it will not. Like history, it will repeat itself and it will continue to grip and enslave me, no matter how many times I slay this horrible menace to my soul.

Perhaps I could try and ignore it, but it will continue to push harder if I do. I must let it have its way with my efforts before I can try and fell it once more.

Perhaps I should try and attack it now whilst it is preventing me from doing the assignment work that I need to do. There is always a chance that there will be some form of success if I do. there is always a chance that I will be most victorious.

Either that or I could stop crapping on and get back to doing the study that I need to do, for there is a lot to do as there always is, and as always there is little time to get all that need to be done done in a timely manner.

There will be things that suffer, but that is inevitable. I could somehow slay the beast and at least get as much as I can get done done and then do better in other things, but at the same time making sure that the things I don’t do as well in get done at least well to some extent.

Yes,m perhaps that is the way to go. Stop crapping on and get back to doing the things that need to be done. It does seem like a good idea and it is one that is probably easy to execute.

Well, I guess it is time to begin, for if not now, then when would be a good time?

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 06:04:15

Actually had to warm up before I started typing away at this essay.

Humpback Tail

There was some whale watching during the marine science field trip.

Therefore, here’s a photo of the tale of a humpback.

I like that in this moment the tale appears dramatic and powerful, as well as slightly “Rounded“.

I also like that it appears really clear in the photo and that you can see some water trailing off.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Crossing Tom Uglys Bridge

Tom Uglys Bridge is two bridges both considered one bridge due to their being next to each other. I think. I could be wrong.

This was taken on the way back from the marine science field trip.

I took a lot of photos from out of the front passenger window and most of them came out as Dutch angles.

I do like how the Dutch angle has allowed for the bridge to be captured and I also like how the cars all seem to be still rather than moving.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

If you’re a fan of monochrome photography on any level, then I recommend checking out Monochrome Madness and I also recommend considering submitting if you do photography.

I also recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s work outside of Monochrome Madness.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Coral Trees on the Riverbank

A shot of the Minnamurra River passing by some coral trees.

The river appears calm as the trees look over it, tall in their appearance due to being tall.

I like how the colour on one tree is significantly greater than the others and yet is still a minimal amount.

I also like the way that the river bends and cuts in this photo.

I hope you enjoy.
