Following the Curve

Here’s another long exposure taken outside of Erskineville Station.

When I took this, I wanted to try and capture a train from a different angle.

I would like to believe that I was successful in this endeavor.

I think that the angle gives a better sense of the train moving due to it no longer being seen from a spot directly above the path that it follows.

There also seems to be a better sense of depth to the photo.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 224: TEA

So it had been a while before this morning since I had last had a tea and whilst I was drinking tea this morning, it got me thinking about just how awesome a beverage tea is, due to how much more versatile it is than coffee.

Coffee has two states: mud water and something that kind of resembles what people say it is like. Both are awful.

You can have a tea however the hell you want. Up a mountain? Done. No milk or sugar? sorted. Infused with everything under the sun? Not a problem.

Tea is so versatile and brilliant that it will go back in time and slap you in the face for daring to treat it as a second-rate type of drink.

You disrespect tea? You disrespect life.

You disrespect the drink of the gods.

Tea is so good that it will make flowers explode from your eyes in a water display of technicolour painting techniques.

It is so flavorsome that there is no dint on its smooth, shimmery surface.

There are drinks that try to come near its being, but they are unable to touch it due to the fear that they will become aware of the knowledge contained in a small cup of the beautiful beverage known as TEA.

It is so good that VIOLENCE becomes OBSOLETE in its presence because everyone wants to sit down with it instead of a CUP of JOE.

Then the peace is achieved and we can go back to watching Saturday Night Fever over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until the television is launched out the window because you realised that you’ve subjected yourself to that film far too many times and essentially wasted a bit too much of your life that could have been spent doing other things, such as drinking more TEA.

TEA comes in many flavours, but there’s only two that are important: Grunt and Beyond Reality. All flavours are as nice as each other, but one must realise that these are the two that you return to all the time, for these are the ones that help you realise as to whom really is a tea drinker and whom is a being pretending to be a human being.

TEA goes hard. It never goes home. It is the drink that whispers sweet nothings into your ear ad gives you the courage to fight a bear on the side of a mountain whilst thunder rains down around you, which then leads to you both heading off for a bit of a kip and then maybe a frolicking in a field before breakfast.

If there is any drink in the world that is worth abandoning everything you knew for, it certainly is TEA. Coffee pales in comparison. It is a weak drink that is for those that cannot handle the TRUTH of the MATTER.

Drink TEA. Accept no imitators.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 8:52:18

I think I thought a little too hard with this one.

Oh well.

So I had a tea for the first time in a while this morning, which is what inspired this post.

Another shot of Sydney CBD

Here’s another photo of Sydney C.B.D. that I recently took.
I like the softness of this photo, as well as how it is lit.

I also like how it is somewhat flat.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

More Cycling-Related Ranting

So earlier today I was writing about stuff. I don’t know. It wasn’t that interesting.

I ended up losing the timer and decided to discard it because I decided that I wanted to write about something else instead.

The thing I want to write about is something that I’ve written about a few times.

Well, I guess now is the time to start flogging a dead horse.

Cycling. I enjoy cycling. I enjoy being a menace to everyone out there, as cyclists are the worst in the world. There is no one as bad as a cyclist because reasons that are unfathomable to the human mind, but apparently they’re horrible people.

Ergo, I am a horrible person. I’m fine with being a horrible person in this regard. I don’t mind being a horrible person by not doing things such as doing a very fast and sudden lane merge over two lanes into one that has someone cycling in and almost causing them to hit your car. I don’t mind the fact that by deciding that it is not a good idea to walk right into the pathway of a cyclist because you want to get into a car, that that makes me a bad human being.

I would go as far to say that I don’t mind the fact that as I don’t stop in the middle of the road for no reason whatsoever, or decided to turn left in a lane that is not a left turn lane despite the fact that the left turn lane is right next to me, holding up not only cyclists but other motorised vehicles, that that makes me the scum of the earth. I don’t mind at all, because I can revel in the fact that I’m not pretending to be an environmentalist who is driving around a car to go to the city when I live right next to it and have no actual need to drive to and from work and decide to anyway because I need to be as much of an asshole as possible.

I’ve written before about the fact that there’s a lot of bad cyclists out there. Well, I think I’ve written about bad cyclists. I’m not sure. I will gladly admit that there’s a lot out there. However, I don’t think that justifies the weird amount of hate that they get in Sydney.

I’ve heard motorists rant about how they pay for the roads by paying registration. I wonder how many of them would think someone is lying to them if they were told that the cost of registration probably does not pay for the roads and that everyone who is paying tax pays for the roads regardless of whether they use them or not.

I think that there would be a lot less traffic congestion if people who didn’t need to drive (we’ll say a 20km trip in either direction as an extreme) instead rode to work. There probably would be a lot less assholes doing things such as deciding on a whim to almost cause an accident on the road by trying to merge into your lane when you’re right next to them.

A lot of people don’t like cyclists and I’m not sure as to why. There are a number that aren’t good. I won’t deny that. Perhaps the issue is that people can’t handle the fact that some people like riding a bike. Perhaps the issue is that it’s acceptable to be an asshole when you’re in a car or crossing a road right into traffic.

City within the Suburbs

Here’s two shots of the Sydney CBD.

Here it sticks out quite well, and yet cannot escape the suburbs that enclose it on each side.

These two pictures don’t share the same atmosphere to them, but they do have a similar basic image.

I think that they’re framed well and capture the CBD decently at different points of the day.

They also show just how small it is, despite being surrounded by buildings that are smaller in comparison.

I hope you enjoy.

A Friend

So I was going to write about a child at university who doesn’t like me for some reason beyond my understanding because I have no idea as to what I’ve done or said. The only reason I can think of is because I am not like them or am from an area where people are so white and desperately trying to cut themselves off from the world due to their thinking that they are better than everyone else that even being slightly darker than what a tan may provide is likely to get you dirty looks.

I was going to write about this child who cannot handle people having a brief socialisation and tried to stop me from interacting with friends that, when failing, they left the room I had entered. However, I’ve decided not to as, beyond this writing, they aren’t worth my time.

If someone is going to decide they don’t like you on a whim and not talk to you about it, there’s a good chance that they’re not worth consideration, or that they can’t deal with the fact that maybe that’s a crappy way to go about things.

Actually, now that I think about it, I have to thank said person for this post, because (other than my being in contact with whom I’m going to write about every day leading to this), thinking about them made me think about someone that has been important to me for almost seven years.

I don’t often write personally anymore. Well, not often in a direct way, although probably far more often than I’d like to believe. However, I feel like being direct for this post.

There is someone who has seen me at some of the lowest points in my life. There is someone there who has accepted me for for who I am without condition. Someone who I’ve butted heads with plenty of times and yet they have still stuck with me as a friend and, in many ways a brother as he, his partner and their housemate have been better family to me than my own a good chunk of the time.

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it was not for this person. I wouldn’t have had some amazing experiences and journeys if it weren’t for them being with me.

I don’t know if I can confidently say that any future experiences would be worth it if they were not in my life.

It’s really difficult to say, because this person really has seen things through thick and thin with me.

As cliché as it is, you really see who your true friends are when you’re going through rough times. You find out who really loves you when you’re going through rough times, whether they be of your creation or from someone else.

You can fight with someone like this. It is bound to happen every now and then. In the end, you always meet back up. You let stuff be in the past and move on because your bonds are too strong for something petty to break them. You both know when you’re behaving like idiots and you may hug it out. You may not, but you both move on and keep going.

This friend has had my back far more often than he has needed to and I am so very grateful for him being there when I’ve needed him.

Ewe is one of the best people I’ve ever had the luck to have in my life.

We’ve grown up quite a lot since knowing each other, both as friends and individuals.

I look forward to whatever we get up to in the future because it has been worth every moment.

Last Light of Sunset Over Redfern

Here’s a shot of… the last light of sunset over Redfern.

This moment was kind of “Evanescent“. Of the whole day, it takes up such a small amount of time.

I like how it contrasts with the darkness across the suburb.

I also like the various windows lit up in the area.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Anzac Bridge on an Overcast Day

Here’s a shot that I took whilst walking through Jubilee Park.

I think that the reflection, as well as the subtle details of the clouds adds more to the photo.
The clouds in particular as they seem to make the bridge appear more prominent.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.
I recommend that you check out what other people are submitting and perhaps consider submitting something yourself.
I also recommend checking out Leanne Cole’s other work.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 223: Group Assignment Completed

The assignment was completed.

It took more hours than we had anticipated and the work could have been significantly better than what the end result was, but we managed to complete it and get it submitted on time.

There was probably some sense of relief mixed with a desire to get home as soon as possible and get to sleep as we had commenced the finishing of the assignment around midday on Monday and had finished around 2:20 Tuesday morning.

When our group was making our way to the car of the one person in our group that drove, we were forced to stop and turn around due to a gate being locked.

It added an extra ten minutes to the journey, and considering that we had been working for far too long at that point (with the other two in the group working on significantly less sleep than I had as they had other assignments due at the same time that also took longer to finish than expected), it felt like far longer.

I ended up crashing a little closer to university rather than going the whole way home as I didn’t want to have my colleague drive me the whole way home.

I slept for about four or five hours, woke up, forced myself up, had breakfast, a shower, then went back to university to keep on working on the assignment.

We did manage to hand it in on time, but there was still work that needed to be completed and submitted, as there were two parts that required submitting.

Afterward I managed to make my way to work, then home after work, then stayed up until it was time for sleep and slept through my alarm this morning.

I feel quite rested.

I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much time working on an assignment. We didn’t go in unprepared and had most of our work done before we went in on Monday afternoon. We did encounter a few problems, mostly with getting results and files corrupting. There was also problems with getting commands to work. It was a fun time.

We probably should have gotten more done when we had more time as well, but that’s another problem and not something I can be bothered with getting into right now.

The main thing is that it is done and now I can focus on other assignments that are due very soon, as is the way of things when you are in pursuit of the academic life.

More importantly, I am able to spend time at home in my underpants and not worry about whether people can see me stressing over something as I’m allowed to be my own lounge lizard now.

Or so I would hope.

I don’t know what kind of mark our group will get for our assignment. I hope it is better than a pass, but that is all I hope. I think that, in this instance, it is better to have reasonable expectations.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:51:00

One of the more sensible bits of text that I’ve written in recent times.

Huzzah, and so on.

Written at university.

Tall Buildings Among the Sydney Cityscape

Here’s a shot of a few tall buildings.

I like the colour of the sunset, as well as the band of clouds.

What I really like is how (to me) this sort of feels ominous and menacing in a way, as well as somewhat small and not menacing and ominous at all.

I hope you enjoy.
