Five-Hundred Word Challenge 197: Tired, not Many Ideas

It’s morning!

It most definitely is the morning in Australia right now. I’m not as tired as I usually am, but I’m at work and already annoyed by the sheer arrogance of the customers.

It’s almost as if they are holding a lemon that gives them instructions on how to live their life whilst wearing a tie for a hat and pretending that it can croon much better than the best crooner that has ever existed in the the entirety of existence.

I don’t know what that is saying, but I’m sure that it somehow makes sense in some manner.

It makes about as much sense as watching the sun peel off its skin as though it was a fat ripe plum that was bursting with the juice that would fill the void with delicious taste and flavour whilst at the same time reciting the works of John Favreau in a manner that implies they have far less Latin than they actually do.

If you’ve gotten this far, then you’ve probably realised that I’m running on empty and need a little bit more sleep than I ended up receiving last night, which is something that I can only blame on myself as I stayed up late for absolutely no reason (as is usually the reason for my staying up late as I’m seldom, if ever productive when I’m up to some hour well past when I should go to sleep), and ended up waking up early once more.

I’m running on a lot less energy that I would hope I’d be running on right now, but I’m okay with that as I’m not feeling too flat. With that being said, I am feeling the encroaching fatigue a bit more than I wish to be and will probably go to be a little earlier than usual tonight so as to get a bit more sleep and hopefully feel well-rested in the morning.

Other than that, I’m just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks, but I don’t have much to throw and most of it isn’t worth throwing.

I don’t feel like going on a rant and I don’t feel like being angry about anything.

I also don’t feel like trying to make something up on the spot that may or may not be worth reading and in my life, all I can really think about writing is that, despite feeling tired, I’m feeling fine, which is just fine and dandy but it doesn’t make for some sort of interesting reading, although I could attempt to flog it to death, but that would not be nearly as interesting as something else that would actually be interesting, so here I am sitting and hoping for the best whilst I churn this out, but I know that nothing will come and that’s okay.

What;s more important is the fact that I want to go to a café and sit there and read for a while, but that is something that’ll wait.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:52:37

Well, that was something.

Oh well.

Written at work.

Reflected Land

Here’s another shot taken at Smiths Lake.
This was taken during the sunrise shown in the last Smiths Lake photo.

I like the clarity of the reflection, as well as how the clouds and land were captured.
To me, it feels like the clouds are streaming out from the land, or from behind the land.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

How Easter Came to be

Easter: It is a time of eating chocolate and celebration. For some, it is a time to relax from work and get paid for relaxing.

There are many reasons as to why people enjoy Easter, but few people know how it all began.

A long time ago in the annuls of history, there was a chicken. This chicken knew not many a thing, and yet it was still as wise and ancient as the cosmos.

Eventually it decided to go on a sabbatical from being wise and ancient and traveled the world in order to obtain new experiences.

During its journeys it came across many a thing, both above and under the earth, as well as in the ocean, especially areas so deep that not even light had a chance of reaching the inhabitants that lurked in the darkened, high-pressure waters.

When it returned, it was as satisfied as it could be at that point in time, for the chicken was one that did not get satisfied often, and when it did the satisfaction was little for it was always looking for something else to learn about, as well as which methods would be used to assist in learning.

Shortly after returning from its trip, the chicken learned about the possibility of a rabbit being born from an egg. In learning of this, the chicken decided to find out how.

During the process, it discovered that an egg had indeed been laid and that there was a high chance that a rabbit would be hatching from the egg, due to the egg having indents for where the ears of a rabbit would sit comfortably without being horribly folded over.

It also discovered that, much to the complete surprise of everyone, the egg belonged to said chicken.

So another journey the chicken did indeed set out upon to witness the hatching of its child and witnessing the hatching of a chick from an odd-shaped egg is what it ended up experiencing.

No, the possibility was entirely false. However, not being disappointed, the chicken raised its child to be fair and just to all and to seek knowledge, yet not override other needs, for knowledge can be as powerful as it can be a source of suffering.

Meanwhile, while this was all happening, a rabbit born from the soil of the earth emerged in a slow, matter-of-fact manner, for the egg had hatched and the call was heard. The hour was approaching in which its destiny would begin to be revealed and it would need to fulfill what was required of it sooner rather than later.

It ran faster than anything before its existence and made a leap of great gusto into the sky.

The sun rose as this was happening.

Then, whilst it was airborne, a giant egg rose to take it in before shrinking back down to a more regular size.

And then the miracle of birth happened.

You see, when the egg swallowed the rabbit, it was in a symbolic gesture for the rabbit to be reborn as the Easter bilby, consumer of tortured souls and supplier of great delicacies in April.

And that’s how Easter came to be.

Looking Out From Above the Rocks

I was on the Sydney Harbour Bridge earlier this week.
When leaving, I took this photo.

I think it gives an interesting view of some of the area as the image seems to become about the geometry and lines of what can be seen more than the actual objects themselves.

I think i may have made the image too dark, but I am happy with the result as there’s still a fair bit of tone and the contrast of the sky against everything else works quite well.

This is the photo that I’ve submitted into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

If you like photography, you should check out what other people submit, as well as Leanne’s other work.

I also strongly recommend considering submitting something into Monochrome Madness.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 196: Something About Being Tired and Working on an Assignment

Here I sit, thinking “considering the amount of times that I’ve started a post with “Here I sit”, that seems like a wholly original way to start a post”. I’m at work, I’m tired and I’m quite okay with being tired and at work because even though it is busy, it passes the time and it’s legitimately one of the best work environments that I’ve ever had the pleasure to be apart of. However, the post today is not about that.

What the post is about today is… well… I don’t know, but I have an urge to write about something, so this will indeed be a bunch of words strung together in a way that will construct something worth reading about… I hope.

If not, then I must wholeheartedly apologise for that was never my intention today.

I could try and get a review done, but I’m also incredibly tired and not desiring to think too hard about anything right now. I’d much rather go to sleep for a good long while.

Now there’s something that I have not written about in at least a month.

Sleep. It is good. I like sleep. You also should.

So I was up until nearly one in the morning last night working on an assignment until I decided that it was time to pack it in and get some rest. I hoped that I would at the least get seven hours and instead ended up with a chunky under six hours of sleep and have therefore not been operating at my full capacity. As I was working on an assignment still and coffee seems to affect me rather badly these days, I had to work through the remainder of the assignment still feeling tired.

Oh, what a hard and tragic situation that I found myself to be immersed in, with little to no possible escape that I could easily see as there happened to be none.

No, I had to suffer through this extreme torture until my task of unending infinity was finally complete.

So I sat there and worked my way through everything I had to, staying as awake as I possibly could and trying to resist the urge to let my mind wander onto other, more productive things. It became more and more difficult as my fatigue tried to take over my body and wrest control from my mind to leave me in a state of desiring sleep more than anything else, yet unable to obtain it for I was too awake to be able to rest with any form of comfort.

Eventually I was able to silence the voices gnawing at my ears and push on through, slowly putting together all that I needed to into what could be considered a cohesive readable format that would allow someone to make sense of what I was trying to explain, although I doubt I knew myself.

That is to say I am very tired and worked on an assignment earlier today.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:40:94

Hooray!

Well, back to work.

Sunrise at Smiths Lake

Behold, a photo from the second morning of the field trip.

I like the smoothness of the scene in this photo, as well as the pattern created by the clouds and their reflection. I like how the land is reflected with a lot of clarity.

I also like how well it captures morning and the sunrise, as well as what kind of atmosphere the sunrise can add.

I hope you enjoy.

A Short Writing About Public Transport

I’ve complained about public transport quite a lot and I refuse to stop being as vocal as I can about its mediocrity, yet I still use it a fair bit because I think that public transport should be supported in any way possible.

There’s certainly something that can be said for not using Sydney’s public transport until it improves. I think that it is a good way to show that it’s not working because using alternatives that work better generally make people turn around and re-think how something should operate.

It is unfortunate that that isn’t always an option for others, so the next best way (in my opinion) is to keep using it and be as vocal as possible about what is wrong with how it is operating, as well as not having much of a choice in other forms of transport.

Public transport is a really good idea and allowing it to accommodate as many people as possible at as cheap a rate as possible is generally great incentive for more people taking advantage of what it offers.

To be quite frank, for what you get, Sydney’s public transport is overpriced. Services have improved quite a lot over the last ten years (with some areas having no shortage of options and little to no worry about missing something and having to wait for a while), but they are still nowhere near as good as they’re made out to be, with delays still being overly common, buses that are a part of the timetable never showing up because it’s the weekend or the middle of the day and services not being frequent enough in areas where they’re needed, among many other problems.

On top of this, removing things such as the free trips with Opal (the electronic ticket system for Sydney), a major incentive for many for using Sydney’s public transport and replacing it with an inferior reduced price option (originally it was that after eight trips you would ride for free for the rest of the week and now it is that after eight trips you pay half price for the remainder [Sundays are capped at $2.50 for the whole day and this still applies]), with the possibility of the decision partly driven by the loss of money that was incurred due to free trips, which shouldn’t actually be something taken into consideration if more people are using the transportation available due to the incentive offered.

Perhaps if a loss in the millions is a problem that you have, then perhaps you should look at if you’re recklessly spending money instead of putting the costs back on the commuter because it seems as though the “loss” wasn’t really affecting the development and improvement of the public transport.

If many people are using the services provided, that’s good. It’s good because it gives an idea of how to develop the transportation system. With that being said, if there aren’t enough people are being vocal about what is wrong with the services, then improvements will be slower than they should.

Ending Sunset

I took quite a lot of photos of the sunset at Smiths Lake.

Here’s one where I had the f-stops set too low so I had to readjust the exposure in processing.

The first shot is one where I’ve attempted to make it look impressionistic, whereas the second one is much closer to how the light was at the time of shooting.

I like both of these versions. I think that they show the scene quite well, they both give a good idea of the atmosphere and I think that there’s a good balance of detail in each.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 195: A Cat Story

Once upon a time there was a cat. It did not wear a hat, nor was it in a hat, but it was indeed a cat.

This cat decided that, due to its desire to explore the vary area that it found itself in at this particular moment, to go into the library at the University of New South Wales as that was where it wanted to explore on this particular day.

It was a Sunday, meaning that there were less students around.

It walked right in as though it owned the place, strutting proudly and without any fear.

Once it was past the entrance, it had a quick look around before deciding to head to the right into the computer area. Unfortunately its exploration of that was cut short as it quickly noticed the library staff hanging round in the area just after the entrance.

The cat froze in its steps as the staff quickly approached it to shoo it out.

Now, this cat being a cat wasn’t necessarily going to go back out

Well, not at this stage. It wanted to explore and explore was what it was going to do and no person could prevent this desire becoming a reality.

It wasn’t long before the cat tore off as quickly as it could. It did not check if the people followed. The computer lounge had to wait though, as it knew that if it was going to avoid capture it had to go elsewhere to explore. Heading left from the entrance it soon saw a set of stairs leading upward and decided that that would be the best way to go if it was to see the interior of this building.

It went up to the fourth floor and decided that at that point it could relax. There weren’t many people around so it started wandering around, rubbing itself against various objects and books. Eventually the cat saw a sleeping student, so it decided to rub itself against them whilst they were slumbering so as to mark its scent and make sure that everyone knew that that particular human belonged to the cat.

The student stirred from their slumber pretty quickly, but as they were used to being woken this way from owning cats, did not express any surprise and instead started petting the cat.

After about three minutes the cat decided that it was done with the student and looked around more bookshelves, rubbing itself against books whilst also looking for a place hidden away that allowed for it to nap in peace.

After eventually going up another floor, it found a nice, hidden alcove that it spent a little while resting. Once it was done, it stretched and continued on its way.

After seeing a few more floors, the cat decided it was time to leave. slowly retracing its steps, it made its way to the exit of the library back to home where it could have a nice meal before going back out again.

Could have been much faster.

Tree Shapes

Here’s some Trees that I saw on the first day of the field trip.

I like how these are shaped.
They’re interesting patterns that are a reminder of the fact that bush fires are part of the reality that exists in the Australian Bush.

Of these shots, the last is my favourite as it looks like the trees are dancing.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
