Five-Hundred Word Challenge 177: Something that’s Probably Vaguely Poetic

Well, it’s a hot day, I’m in my room sweating like crazy and all I can think of is how I should be outside, heading somewhere with my camera and taking photos.

Well, I’m not actually thinking about that. I’m actually thinking about what I’m writing about and wanting to know where it will carry me. I do doubt that it will carry me home as I’m already there.

Beyond my window is an inescapable expanse with a horizon that spans ages beyond what I could conceivably comprehend, for I can only comprehend less than I could ever hope to know.

All I can do is stare out as it slowly reaches toward me, dragging me in to feel all that it has to offer, having me float throughout whilst I experience a feeling of being overwhelmed as all realisations come flying toward me and my mind is peeled back to prevent any of the guard mechanisms that I would have set up from stopping anything from making a full penetration.

As I would experience this, suddenly I would find myself under the dry sun in an expanse somewhere in Australia. There would be no one around and the sky would see heaving clouds approaching slowly.

I would be digging into the dirt as the sun beats down on me, allowing sweat to shower my arms and face, dripping into where I’m digging. I wouldn’t be sure as to what I’d be digging for, but I do know that I would have to finish before the clouds reached me and unleashed the rains that the land underneath needed to keep on surviving, allowing the expanse, as dry and thirsty as it was to bloom once more with various grasses and wild flowers, turning the expanse into a vision of beauty and wonderment.

Eventually I’d finish digging only to find myself falling away from the ditch and into the sky as the rain would fall.

Beyond the clouds would my ascent slow down and I would be there, being dragged along to somewhere else at a gradually accelerating pace. The clouds below would become some sort of blur and various oranges and reds would pierce the atmosphere, yet where I would be going would never draw closer and I would be forced to only be a spectator to what I am experiencing once more. There would be no stopping until it was time and that time is not what I would know.

Suddenly I would find myself in my room as though nothing had actually happened, for the fact is that nothing actually did happen. It would feel as though I did. It would feel as though all that had just been witnessed was as real as my thoughts, but that would be because it was all in my thoughts and had never left them.

Instead, after all of that I would go back to writing, sweating and waiting for the dry heat to pass before I head out for photography.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:39:04

Faster than I had hoped. Hooray and whatnot.

Back to sweating.

Written at home.

More Tall Buildings

I can’t remember where I was heading when I took this photo.

It’s probably not relevant.

From what we can see here, there’s buildings in the “Shadows” of other buildings.
Very few  are completely engulfed, as they are too tall for that to happen.

I like the angle of this shot, as well as how there’s a little bit of reflection being cast.

I also like that it’s a shot taken in the city, yet there’s plenty of sky to be seen.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

On Bad Driving

Whilst I was in work earlier in the week I was unfortunately able to overhear a very clear and audible conversation about the supreme selfish idiocy of people and their reveling within said selfish idiocy.

If you have your licence suspended, then it is highly advisable that you do not drive your car. It has been suspended for a reason and if you think that you are above that, you’re kind of an asshole.

There’s very few reasons as to why someone should be speeding, let alone on a suspended provisional licence in a school zone, and thinking that you might be able to get away with it is not an acceptable answer. It never is an acceptable answer.

If you want to increase your chances of being in an accident, then be my guest. Just don’t increase the risk for anyone else because you’re too unable to see anything beyond your own nose.

There are too many people in Australia who don’t seem to understand what driving is, what it entails and what responsibilities you have to take every time you get behind a steering wheel. You are not just taking a risk with your life. If you think that being a reckless idiot is absolutely acceptable and that there’s nothing wrong with driving with a suspended license, then you  need to go back and learn how to drive, or do everyone a favour and put the car away and take public transport instead. The roads are not just for one person. They’re for everyone and that’s what a lot of people don’t want to acknowledge.

I’ve been in a car accident before. The car I was in was stopped in some very light traffic waiting for lights to change and a person in front of us was doing an illegal u-turn. There was nowhere for the car I was in to go. The person doing the u-turn hit the car because they thought that this was perfectly acceptable behaviour. They weren’t going at any speed that could be considered fast, but doing it in traffic whilst not paying attention to what they were actually doing whilst being close to traffic lights in a spot where you can’t do a u-turn tells me that they didn’t care because they thought that their crappy behaviour is above the law.

There’s always a push to get more cars off the road and, despite my grievances with how the public transport in Sydney operates, I do think that there should be less cars on the road simply because there would hopefully be less people who don’t know how to drive on the road. There are so many accidents that can be avoided but still happen just because people don’t know what driving is, don’t seem to feel a need to pay attention to what they’re doing, or don’t think that speeding in a school zone on a suspended provisional license is something that shouldn’t be done.

You don’t deserve to drive if you refuse to understand that you’re driving a car and that there’s rules that need to be followed.

Pigeons in Flight

I forgot about this photo, so when I was going through what I should submit for Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness this week and came across it I felt it only appropriate that it was the photo that I submitted.

This was taken on Christmas Eve. I was on my lunch break and as I had my camera I decided to wander around.
When the opportunity to take this photo arose I couldn’t resist.

I think that the shape of the pigeons as they are flying looks great.
I get a strong sense of their form and motion as they head to wherever their next destination happens to be.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Long Exposure on the Cahill Expressway

Another shot from last week.

I like how there’s a sense of the vehicles moving in this one, as well as how the vehicle lights seem to be coming out from a single point.

I also like how this is another shot that, whilst you can make out the shape of the buildings, they are still somewhat ambiguous.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

People Protesting Abortion Clinics Pisses me off

Usually when I’m working in the mornings and I’m walking up to work I get to pass a bunch of people who appear to be praying. They’re usually quite fervent with their praying and at what they are praying toward and never seem to cause a ruckus. However, they are praying in protest as they are protesting an abortion clinic.

There’s many reasons as to why people get abortions.
A significantly small amount of them have to do with “can’t be bothered having protected sex, taking the contraception pill or the morning after pill”.

Don’t hide your ignorant prejudice behind religion because you decided that the best way to go through society is to remain as ignorant as much as possible because you think that your god will be appeased if you start forcing your bullshit down other people’s throats in your attempts to try and make the world a worse place because you somehow think that you’ll be inconvenienced if the population doesn’t grow faster than it already is.

Would you really want more people brought into a world when there’s a chance that they might not be able to be looked after because their birth ended up causing a bunch of preventable problems?

As George Carlin once said, these people don’t care about the child once it’s born. It’s not “their” problem any more. They only care when it’s in the womb. They’re not going to help raise the child once it’s born. These people are anti-women.

Whilst I find myself disappointed by their backward views, I’m completely disgusted by the fact that some of them seem to think that it’s acceptable to bomb abortion clinics, or gun down people who are involved with them in some manner. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Plenty of people who are religious would say that people who do this don’t represent them.
Despite many of them hiding behind religion to justify their prejudice, unfortunately the do represent your religion (or at least parts of it) whether you like it or not because they are still a part of the community.

With that being said, I understand that many religious communities out there work hard to show that there is plenty of positive coming out of them.

Whilst I myself am not religious, I do think that religion can be a good thing at times for some people.

I’m neither anti-religious or pro-religious. I’m anti-willfully-ignorant-assholes.

It really pisses me off that people think they have a right to try and prevent something that, whilst can lead to a horrible experience, is ultimately for the benefit of people just because they don’t want to go through the process of critical thought, learning, understanding and minding their own fucking business.

Furthermore to this, I can only guess that pro-lifers would end up attacking anyone who is scared away from using one of these clinics if they then had to struggle to raise the child and weren’t doing as good a job as what they thought was required, despite any reasons as to why, such as the child being born from assault, the parent being a single parent, or their ending up being scared into avoiding the clinic and thus preventing a bad situation from getting worse.

With all of that being said, if their god cared then it would probably take care of the issue itself, or already has.

A Train Departs from Central

I was going to have something written up at this point. However, I’m being lazy.

Here’s a photo that I took on the weekend whilst I was at Central Station.

I like the scene.

I think there’s a decent amount of depth and the lighting isn’t overly bright.

I also like that (to me) it feels more like a town than a city.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Sydney Opera House at Night

Another shot taken last week.

I like how the lights from the passing boat make the opera house look a little like it’s moving at a high speed.

I also like how the photo feels like there’s a lot of empty space around the Opera House.

The reflection being a vague representation is quite nice, I think.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Turning Boat

Here’s a photo of a boat that was turning.

I was aiming to get a long exposure of it passing so I ended up being pleasantly surprised when this happened.

I like the curvature in the lights as well as how they are reflected on the water.

I also like how part of the area in which I’m standing is illuminated and its shadow being cast onto the water.

I hope you enjoy.

Mount Solitary in the Afternoon

Another shot taken when I went on a solo camping trip last year.

Here we see Mount Solitary in the afternoon instead of another time of day.

What I like about this photo (as well as the other photos I’ve taken of Mount Solitary) is that it shows the mountain in “Solitude” despite being surrounded by a plethora of nature.

I like how some of the clouds look like they’re coming from a point directly above Mount Solitary and are expanding in size as they float away.

I also like how they cast a shadow on part of the photo.

I mostly like the photo because it has Mount Solitary in it and how it feels powerful and kind of intense.

At this point, I think that Mount Solitary has a certain resonance.

I’m not sure in which way, but I think it does.

It’s a rather beautiful thing to see.

This is my photo for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week.

I hope you enjoy.
