Five-Hundred Word Challenge 154: Last Exam for the Semester

So yesterday I sat what I hope is my last exam for the semester, and I am hoping that somehow I really luck out with it and do well enough to pass the subject for which the exam was for.

So, I went in more unprepared than I thought, but still somewhat confident that I would be able to do well enough.

However, I had to think a lot harder than I anticipated, making it a bit more challenging than the exam should have been.

I read the questions that I had to answer a few times, making sure I understood which ones I wanted to answer and didn’t make any errors of judgement, then I decided to try and “word challenge” them, writing something almost close to being stream-of-conscious.

Unfortunately there still had to be some semblance of knowing what I was talking about and I think I was able to get something akin to that across, but there was a lot of filler words used in what I had to write.

Right now, I don’t mind too much.

I’m more concerned about whether I’ll have to do the exam again or not than I am about what I wrote down on the exam.

Oh well.

It’s been a busy few days and now I’ve begun a new job and all I can think about right now is about how I should be getting to sleep so I can get up early so I can go to the beach before work tomorrow, but in order to go to sleep early I need to stop writing and getting the next post ready, which is something I want to do more, but I need to get sleep so I don’t feel so tired tomorrow and also so that I can get up early to go to the beach and go for a swim before I start work, but then I wouldn’t be able to finish this post, or the next one, therefore leaving more incomplete things for me to complete, so instead of going to sleep, which is really what I should be doing, instead I’m going to finish writing this post and then get onto the next one.

Then I will be able to go to sleep.

Exams are a fun thing.

Well, sometimes they are a fun thing.

I don’t enjoy the ones that feature a lot of writing, because they feature sections that ask to you “write five-hundred words as fast as you can, with little regard for coherency or quality”.

If more of them had questions like that, I think I’d be able to do amazingly on them, leaving the markers baffled at how one person could come up with so much tripe.

I would then be allowed to skip some years of study and become some sort of brilliant genius at whatever it is that I would be studying, because any subject that would allow that would not be a subject that I’m currently studying.

Oh well.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:54:66

Hooray.

Written at home.

Flies and Dung Beetle

Two pictures that were taken last week.
Both featuring “Tiny” creatures.

I like these because they show nature happening.
I also like that some of the details on the wings of one of the flies can be made out, as well as the details of the shell of the beetle.

I think the lighting is fairly nice.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

The Republicans Won. It Happens.

If there’s anything that the recent election showed, it’s that you can say almost anything you want to say; it’s unlikely that it will stop you from being elected.
Funnily enough, we had something similar during the federal election in 2013, although Tony Abbott was a bit more careful with what he said.

I think it’s really interesting that, shortly after the Republican/Donald Trump win, a lot of people protested. It would appear that they can’t deal with the idea that a candidate and party that they didn’t want to win, won.

There’s a few theories going about as to how the Republicans won.
Personally, I think it’s due to apathy.
I think that a lot of people didn’t actually care enough to go out and vote.
I also think a lot of people started caring once the election didn’t go the way they had hoped.

I don’t think Donald Trump will do well as a president.
I’m hoping that it turns out that he’s a lot more progressive and thoughtful than he’s made himself (as well as plenty of spectators) look.
However, I’m not going to be outraged by the election results.

There’s more important things to do, such as not continually attacking him and pretending it has nothing to do with personally not wanting him to be president.
It’s also important to accept that what has happened has happened and begin working on showing that you’re more interested in working toward a better future for all.

Recently I saw a photo of a person holding a sign with “Love trumps hate” written on its front.
I’ve read that people are using these signs at the protests that are currently happening.
I think that protesting is a good thing, especially when it’s handled well.
I think the use of these signs is a bit hypocritical and shows that most of the democrats weren’t really interested in having a more unified, progressive U.S.A, considering how they’re currently acting.
I think it shows that they were significantly more interested in not having Donald Trump as president.

To be fair, having interest in that is not entirely unfounded, considering what he has said.
If it turns out that Donald plans to go ahead and try and implement some of the regressive ideas that he has suggested and somehow gets enough of the Republican party on his side when it comes to having things passed through (there seems to be enough Republicans in the party that don’t support him that will cause issues with getting things through congress), then times are going to be trying.
It had the bonus of showing more overt unification of various groups.

With that being said, there’s no guarantee that Hillary Clinton would have been a good president.
I think a lot of people bought a bit too much into the emotional sway of the election which is something that should never be done.
Too many people blindly supported Donald Trump because of it and too many people ignored the flaws of Hillary Clinton in order to justify their support of her.
There is room for emotion in an election, but it should never be allowed to overwhelm serious thinking and consideration as you’re deciding which employee will run the country.

Right now the focus shouldn’t be on protesting because the election didn’t go the way you had hoped.
The focus should be on education and building a better, more open tomorrow without resorting to hate disguised as dissatisfaction, because that’s what most people seem to be displaying right now, which makes me think that the people supporting the Democrats aren’t so different from how the people supporting the Republicans mostly seem to be displayed.

Whilst my support does lie somewhat with the Democrats at the moment, and whilst I think that Hillary Clinton would have made for a better president, I don’t like most political parties and their members.
There’s good and bad in most of them and they’re all worthy of serious constructive criticism.
The biggest problem I probably have is that a lot or political parties are lead by people who don’t seem to care much about the people they say they represent until elections come around.
Being a politician is not an occasional job.
It’s one that requires a politician to always be representing the people that not only elected them, but also the ones that didn’t, to the best of their ability.
Through that, perhaps actual progress could be made.

Blurring Clouds and Tree

Well, there’s three trees, but two are significantly less prominent.

Here’s a photo I took a few months ago.

I was trying to get a long exposure of Parramatta Road in the morning and ended up also taking this photo.

I like how strong the detail is in this photo, as well as how the clouds are moving quickly.

This is my entry into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Dawn In Sydney

It almost looks like a sunset.

Here’s a shot I took last weekend.
I’m pretty happy with how the colours come through in the image.

With that being said, it’s a fair bit darker than when I took it and whilst I like how this turned out after processing, I kind of want to go back to it and make it less dark (as it wasn’t this dark when I took the picture).

Maybe I will one day, but for now, I’m fine with the photo.

Here are two versions.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 153: Get off the Seat

Today I had an exam and whilst I could probably write something resembling something being interesting if I used that as my basis for whatever comes out of my hands today, instead I’m going to write about something that annoys me greatly.

It’s probably something that I’ve written about before, but I’m going to write about it, regardless of if I have or haven’t, as it’s incredibly insignificant and irritating at the same time.

People on the bus, as well as people on the train both annoy me quit a lot.

There’s one thing that they have in common that really grinds my gears.

Well, there’s probably a lot of things that they both have in common that really grinds my gears, but right now I’m only going to talk about one of those things as it’s something that is, to me, mindbogglingly selfish.

Also, I feel like ranting pointlessly.

You get on a bus or a train, you sit down, then someone sits down next to you.
You get to where you need to get off, so the person, seeing that you need to get up, decides that the best course of action to take is to try and tuck their legs in, congratulating themselves on their ingenuity in a situation as trying as the one that they’ve just had be a part of.

This pisses me off.
Why do this?
Why?

Why not get up and let someone out instead of having them have to squeeze past you because you’re too much of a selfish asshole to actually move?

I know that this is not always the case.
There are a times when getting up might not be possible for some reason.
These seem to be few and far between.

I was on the bus today and I had this happen when I needed to get off.

There was plenty of space for the person to get up and let me pass through, but instead of doing so, they tucked their legs in and waited for me to pass.

Noticing that I was still waiting for them to move off the seat and making my getting off the bus a little bit easier, they then turned on the seat so that their legs were facing into the walkway of the bus.

Then noticing that I was waiting for them to get off the seat, they decided to get up and move to another one.

It’s some sort of solution to a really basic problem.
However, it’s a problem that shouldn’t have existed in the first place.

It’s really not that hard to get up and move out of the way to allow someone to get off with a little bit more convenience than usual.

It’s really not that hard to not be selfish and allow someone to move past you.

It’s hard to think that your ability to sit for a few extra seconds is significantly more important than someone’s ability to get off at their bus stop.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:08:77

Slower than I hoped and probably had a bit too much repetition.

Oh well.

A View From Otford

So I was going to write about something tonight, but Je have been trying to sort out a rat problem, so instead it’s just this picture tonight.

Oh well.

Here’s a photo that I took last week.
The clouds look pretty massive in this shot.

I like that they’re slightly reflected on the ocean.

I hope you enjoy.

Plume

Here’s a photo I took yesterday whilst I was standing on the beach.

The surf was a bit odd. The tide was far out and the waves were breaking a bit too far to be near them safely.

There was also a strong rip.

Still, it lead to some photos that I’m quite happy with, such as this one.

I really like how waves can break and release their energy in such a beautiful display.
They are, to me, one of the many amazing displays of how wonderful and amazing that nature can be.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 152: Got a Job, Bought Some Books.

Alright,I’m going to try and really knock this one out of the park, speed-wise, and I do not care as to how rambling or incoherent it ends up, so here goes…

Well, I ended up landing a job that starts after the exam period, and whilst it is only temporary work, I’m still rather happy about that because it means I don’t have to worry about work for about three months minimum, as there’s a chance that the work could turn into something a bit more permanent.

With that being said, if I don’t end up getting permanent work from this job, at least I’ll be able to get a bit of money behind me and then at least not have to worry about finances for a few months, leaving me to be able to search for a job with a lot less pressure being felt in that situation (not having something beyond the temporary work of last week began to get to me a little bit).

It’s quite relieving because now I can focus on things that need to be done.

There’s a lot of study that I need to get out of the way over the next week, as well as a lot of procrastination and photography and many other things that I cannot begin to bother to consider right now, as they will inevitably be pushed to the side whilst I continue to work on getting study done, as well as a lot of swimming, in order to get back into enjoying swimming, as well as pass exams that I need to pass to ensure that I never have to worry about doing certain subjects again, freeing myself from the tyranny of repetition of information that I rightly should have learned the first time around, as opposed to the second, unless I genuinely did not understand the subject at all, which would be something I wouldn’t be too concerned about because sometimes you understand everything the first time around, hence why you need to have a second (or third, or fourth, or…) attempt.

Otherwise you don’t end up doing the subject again and, whilst that is okay to do sometimes, it’s something that shouldn’t be avoided because you can probably get a lot out of some things.

Yesterday Ewe and I went to the beach in the morning for a swim.

After we parted ways, I ended up in a book store to buy books (a real shock there), despite my needed to get more of the books I currently have out of the way because I’ve overbought and now have a massive pile to go through.

Whilst I was in there, I was thinking that I could probably write a book, but the major problem it would have is that it would be lengthy, rambling, incoherent, challenging and nonsensical, all in ways that are not good.

Not everyone gets to be James Joyce, and that’s probably a good thing, all things considered.

Finnegans Wake was enough.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:11:22

Well, that was a lot slower than I hoped.

Oh well. Beach time.

Preparing for Wave Impact

Here’s a photo I took near the end of 2014.
There’s a little bit of “Chaos” in the ocean and waves when they release energy.

Whilst this isn’t the most dangerous activity shown in this photo, I like how calm one the person on the left of the small group appears to be.

This is my entry into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.
