Clawing at the Sky

I don’t usually spend much, if any, time on “Nostalgia“, mostly because I don’t see a reason to.

Sure, things should be remembered, but I find that looking forward is significantly more important.

I also think that it can be too easy to live in nostalgia.

With that being said, here’s a picture that reminds me of my bushwalk from Waterfall to Loftus.

It probably has a lot to do with my having taken this photo during that walk.

This was taken near where I started.

I liked the shape of the tree, hence the photo.

Not much was done in processing.

Looking at the photo now, I really like how contrasting and striking the tree is against the sky.

A quick plug for other photos I took during the walk:

Uloola Falls
A lawn mower
The moon

This is my submission for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Apartments

When Je and I headed out to the location where I took the picture of White Bay, I took a long exposure of the apartments behind us.

Well, that wraps that up!

I think this turned out well.

I think the clouds have a good contrast with the building.

I like how there’s light coming out from some of the parts of the building instead of all or none.

The second image came around through stuffing around.
I think it looks pretty interesting.

I think the light at the top is the moon.

Anyway, this is the seventy-fourth photo I’ve entered to Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

You should check out what everyone else is submitting, as well as Leanne Cole’s photography out side of MM.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Some two-bit Poetry

Here’s something I just knocked out.

Not sure if it’s worth reading, or if it’s even poetic, but it’s here and that’s something.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

———

Watching the crumbling rock slowly trace its way down a face
Seeing the grass on the hill follow the wind that runs through it
The air is thinner than that found at the roads of the city
Clouds hang above in the sky and flow as though to poorly imitate water
Yet seem to be smoother in motion and bring a a sense of calm to the view
Listening for sounds that are as natural as the world that belong to them
And somehow finding that most, if not all are a delicacy for the ear
Not so much that time has stood still as it, like the clouds, continues to move forward
But  for a while, at least, there is some sort of reprieve from that which would rush us
Watching the shadows move in conjunction with the sun
The time required to move may be soon, but for now there is none

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 142: Bland Whinge

Well, it’s a Wednesday afternoon and all I can feel is the cold, lonely stench of fatigue slowly reaching out and trying to caress my eyelids into irresistible submission so I get carried off somewhere whilst thy work that I need to do decides to just dance and celebrate for a while as it won’t go away for a little while longer, yet I am helpless to the powers that force me to try and fight it off as my work needs to  be done as I’ll be disappearing for a week whilst I go do things like look at rocks somewhere int he distant west from Sydney for two days and some gardening ,mixed in with it.

All I want to do right now is sleep and yet I am cheated of that due to my wanting to handle the responsibility of having a job (admittedly one that I enjoy a lot, but that is neither here nor there, or it is, but I don’t feel like mentioning it as part of the main body of text [despite the fact that it is part of it, albeit in brackets], so I won’t), because I feel that somehow having one will help me  achieve something that I don’t achieve if I don’t have one; the act of having a job.

There are two things that people can learn from what I’m writing right now.

The first is that you shouldn’t neglect getting sleep, for it is important and whilst you can function on less sleep than usual, doing it for long enough will cause problems.

The second is that if you’re able to spew a lot of words into text form and still somehow form coherent sentences, or at least something that is not total crap, then you should perhaps consider becoming a well-paid journalist, author, poet laureate, or something that involves a lot of writing.

My job does not involve a lot of writing, so the last part of the second thing should probably be ignored, or not.

I can’t say that I have full experience with it, so pretend I didn’t say it or something.

I don’t know.

All I know is that right now none of this is worth reading, I’m tired, I’m pointlessly whinging and I want to go to sleep so I can face the inevitability of waking up early tomorrow so I can get to university early tomorrow so I can catch a bus to go look at rocks for two days.

I can’t contain my excitement at all.

Well, to be fair, I’m not totally uninterested. It should be fun to some extent.

It’s just that I want to be lazy and not have to get up early, despite my waking up early every day.

I’d rather just be able to lie in bed for a while and let my mind wander before I’m forced by my sense of responsibility and desire to do things to put my pants on and leave home.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:35:86

Now that’s a better time.

This one was written at work, which is where I seem to do my fastest writing.

Well, I seem to do my fastest whenever I’m not on a desk that is as high as the one in my bedroom.

The Australian Aboriginal Flag

Well, technically, it’s an artistic depiction of the Australian Aboriginal Flag, but still.

I think that the flag is quite a powerful image in a lot of ways.

I won’t go into details about it, but I will say that if it interests you, then you look into finding out about what it respresents.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Beautiful Stallion

A magnificent piece of art of a beautiful stallion whilst the sun sets.

I was working on another MS Paint masterpiece when a friend made a suggestion.

I adapted the image they used for their suggestion.

If anyone knows where the image that this is based on came from, please let me know.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 141: An Alcove

There did not seem to be any location near that could be hid under without only protecting a small part of their body. The only option they had, at that moment, was to continue into the rain.
They ran as they knew that it would be sooner rather than later that they would be in a state that suggested that they had gone for a swim with all of their clothes on.

However, running was risky due to the dark of the night.

Still, they persisted blindly along the path, hoping to see something resembling a decent shelter that they could use to wait out the storm, hoping that it would end quickly, allowing them to get home and rest.

Eventually they reached what appeared to be a small alcove in a cliff, to which they hurriedly got into and began to let themselves drip whilst they wrung their clothes out.

The person was quite thankful for this small bit of luck, for the storm did not seem intent on leaving, or wrapping up for that matter. It raged on and only looked like it was going to become more furious as the minutes passed.

The person waited and waited and waited, hoping that somehow they would at least dry up a little bit in the interim. However, the rain did not abate and their clothes did not dry, leaving them to also grow frustrated with the situation that they did not want to be in.

Despite not having any desire for the current alternative, they found it to be much more preferable to waiting out the passing of some bad weather, for at least it was less wet than walking through the rain and they were significantly less vulnerable.

Many hours passed and yet it still continued to rain and the person continued to wait. They decided that sleep might have been able to pass the time, so they did the best they could to ensure they would not be detected and then lay down, facing ti the outside of the alcove in case they needed to move quickly.

They weren’t able to sleep, but they were able to relax, if only slightly and briefly.

The sound of something light falling could be heard. It was coming from near their head.

They shot up and got out of the alcove as quickly as they could.

Once out, they turned around in time to see its roof slump down, preventing them from being able to use it any further and forcing them into a situation where they had no choice but to continue on, but at least they were able to lie down for a few minutes, allowing some sort of temporary reprieve from the tyranny of standing upright in wet clothes during a storm at night.

It was not a thought that was needed, and it remained as such, for they still had a long way to go before they could say they were safe.

A long way indeed.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:03:90

A bit faster than the other night.

Oh well.

Written at my (new) desk at home.

Sunset at Saint Peters

Here’s a shot I took yesterday afternoon.

I conducted a quick processing of it this morning.

I think it came out fairly well; especially with the light.

I like how long the shadow of the fence appears here.

I think the cloud cover helps with making the light appear the way it does.

Also, I think that the person being in the photo is nice.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

A Face in Profile

I took this shot at Coogee a few weeks ago.

I was trying to get a contrast between the rock and the sea, hopefully mostly defined by light and shadow.

I think I ended up with something better.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Easter

This was something that I planned to do around Easter, but that fell through.

It was made last week on Sunday.

I hope you enjoy.
