The Three Sisters

Behold! A photo of the Three Sisters!

It was cold and cloudy and I’m quite happy with the result, mostly because, whilst I can see that they are interesting, I’ve seen them enough times at this point that them being less visible ended up being significantly more interesting to me.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 12: A Second Field Trip Day

Like other locations, there was some talking about stuff on Mount Canobolas.

After that, we headed to the location at which we were staying for the evening.

I tried to get some shots, but it was raining and windy, leaving the only place safe from the rain being behind doors.

Food was served (surprising, I know) and talking was had over meals that were decent.

I was feeling very tired by this point as I hadn’t had a good sleep for over a week due to stress and my own brilliant idea of staying up later than I should, so after dinner and some more chatting, I began heading off for bed.

Whilst outside, I talked to some of my fellow students for a few moments before one of the academics on the field trip was getting everyone to head back to the dining area for a quiz that was described as being partially compulsory, saying things like there would be a role taken and that not attending could get us sent home in the morning.

Being tired, I was pretty angry about this.

I approached him and respectfully declined.
He told me that it was a team thing and it was only going to be half an hour, to which I told him I wasn’t much of a people person (which is true as, whilst I do pretty fine with people, I do prefer to do my own thing a fair bit of the time [depending on my mood, of course]), then headed to bed. I wanted to get more than six hours of sleep and I also wanted to do something in the morning.

Whilst in bed, I talked to two of the others in my dorm as they had skipped the quiz as well, so they got to hear me rant a bit.

Then I fell asleep.

When I woke up, everyone was asleep. I put on my clothes as quickly as I could, grabbed my camera and tripod, and then headed out to look for a hill so I could take some pictures of the sunrise.

I didn’t have much time so I tried to move quickly.

I headed in one direction and found that it would involve hopping over fences that would not be easy for me to do, so I headed in another, found that it went far enough from the accommodation (which was on a cattle station, in case anyone was wondering), realised I left my filters back in the dorm, decided to head out as far as I could anyway, then set everything up and began to take pictures.

A few minutes later, I found out I was facing the wrong way and the sun was rising to the left if where I was facing.

I hopped over a gate, made my way up a hill, and tried to capture it, but I missed out due to how much cloud coverage there was. Still, I was happy that I got to see a bit of it and I was able to get a few photos anyway, so it still worked out.

I made my way back to the dorm once I was done and then prepared for breakfast.
After breakfast, a few others and myself headed out to check out some of the animals on the ranch. It wasn’t the greatest thing I’ve experienced, but it was still pleasant.

During this, I found out that the quiz went for about an hour and a half and that the dorm that I wasn’t in featured a lot of people being drunk and loud., leaving students who didn’t get drunk in said dorm to lose a fair bit of sleep.

Anyway, we all had to get ready to leave, so we did. I hopped into a car that was for two of the academics so I could avoid feeling ill (I get travel sick from time to time and don’t do coach buses too well [although, there are times when this is not the case]). Then, leaving late, we headed off to our next destination.

We headed out to a field and saw some fossils, which was interesting. However, rain meant that it was not as pleasant as it could have been.

We made a quick stop at a town before our next location, so, after having a quick walk through it, a couple of my fellow students and I headed down to a river that ran alongside the town to check it out and also so I could take some photos.

Once done with the town, we went gold panning for a little while. It was interesting. I didn’t enjoy it probably as much as I thought I would, but I’m not averse to doing it again.

At this point I had to hop on a bus as some of the academics were heading back to UNSW, leaving room for the academics who were driving to now hop onto the bus.

Everyone got ready, when all of a sudden a disgruntled tractor driver appeared, telling off the driver of the bus that I was on, then having a go at one of the academics for a while whilst blocking the road. It took a little while for it to end, but eventually it did, seemingly in a peaceful manner, then the tractor driver drove his truck away, allowing us to begin the journey to our final location before all heading back to UNSW: Jenolan Caves.

Unfortunately, it took a bit longer to get there than any of us had hoped, as one of the students found himself feeling quite ill and had to get the bus to pull over so he could throw up (supposedly he was not hungover), which eventually lead to the academics who left us in the car to come and meet the buses to pick him up and take him back at some point.

Well, after that, it was fairly smooth, albeit long sailing to the scenic Jenolan Caves.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 20:51:37

A lackluster performance of writing.

Oh well. The final stage of the uninteresting summary of this will be up… in time.

Reflection

This is another shot I took at Pyrmont Bridge (around the same time as the last one).

I think that the reason why I took this is I had an idea about positioning my camera.

I’m pretty sure that it turned out the way that I was hoping it would.

I say that as I’m happy with the result.

I like how everything is reflected (especially the clouds), and how not everything is reflected at the exact opposite angle.

I like how the colours came through in the sky.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 144: The Joy of Group Work

There’s certainly a lot of wonder and passion that goes into doing things that make me stress harder than I really should because, instead of rethinking plans and strategies, it’s much easier to start losing it internally and increase my chances of getting some sort of super-massive hernia.

In this instance, it’s group work.

Now, I know that the chances of me adding anything new to the conversation surrounding group work are quite small.

However, I’m still going to rant about it because, well, I feel like it.

Group work is a bane. It’s a plague among the souls of us all that only servers to corrupt and destroy.

Well, that’s not entirely true. It’s mostly a pain in the ass when it comes to university assignments, yet, as far as I’m aware, it has no real bearing among future group work as that is usually a bit different.

If I’m wrong, then I’m wrong. However, I don’t believe that is the case, but then again, I can only go along with what experience I have and I must be prepared for that to be challenged and accept that my perception could be quite incorrect.

Anyway…

For one of my subjects this semester, group work is required.

We need to get something together as a presentation for everyone to be able to watch.

I’m not sure as to how much of it will actually end up being useful (we all need to be able to do something that can be used for study [as far as I’m aware]).

Essentially, it needs to hold attention through being interesting and be able to provide clear, concise information.

Well, it would seem that everyone in my group is not understanding of what I want to do, and perhaps that lies on my shoulders for not communicating.

At this point, we have a shortage of information in the format needed and I can say with conviction that that does not lie on my shoulders, so I’m going to choose to be arrogant about that, at least.

The major problem that has occurred due to this is that I’ll be editing it all together and only have some parts of tomorrow and Thursday to get everything sorted and, due to the shortage of information, will need to somehow get the rest of it as quickly as possible, then wade through everything and cobble it all together, hopefully sooner rather than later, whilst sorting out other things due to… well now I’m just crapping on instead of actually being proactive. However, I do have that option right now, so I am going to exercise it merrily.

Suffice to say, due to a lack of communication on the part of most of us (myself included), there’s now a lot more pressure to get everything together and I’m not handling it as well as I should, hence my whinging right now.

I can only hope that everything gets gathered together with very little difficulty, then victory becomes apparent.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:22:18

This should probably be re-titled “The Joy of Aimless Rambling and a Slight Lack of Coherency)”.

Oh well.

The location of the writing of this brilliant piece of tripe was the UNSW law building.

An end of Pyrmont Bridge

Here’s a shot that was taken just before this one.
I think I was trying to see if I could get a good view of the bridge.

I’m quite happy with the result.

I think it has a decent balance of colour and I like that people have blurred.

I also think it has a nice warmth to it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 143: on Being Single (Kind of)

Well, I really need to hurry as I set a post to be published at a future time a bit earlier in the day and now it’s not long before that future time arrives.

Due to my wanting to make this blog based more around writing than it is photography (as it once was), I don’t have much time left to write.

Of course, in the interest of trying to get this done, I hit my knee on my table in an impressive display of dashing grace, which is always a good way to start something.

Anyway…

So, it’s getting late in the night, it’s a bit cold, and I find myself feeling a bit lonely, as is the joy of being single.

I’ve quite enjoyed being single. Still am. It’s not so much the “I can do so much more” crap that I could go on about, because, whilst I am doing more, that has nothing to do with the part of being single, as being in a relationship did not prevent me from doing what I’m doing now.

It’s that, sometimes I find myself missing having someone around, but only sometimes.

It can be nice to wake up next to someone on occasion, as it can be nice to go somewhere and see something amazing and wish you had someone there with you when you don’t.

It can also be nice to have someone there who, despite flaws and occasional arguments, can get right in you and see you at your most vulnerable and still be fine with you being who you are.

Sometimes I get a bit soppy and romantic about things, but I don’t see a problem with that.
I need to stress that I’m not complaining about being single. It’s been a while since a relationship last graced my doorstep and, to be honest, with that I’m fine

After everything that happened and my lack of success in entering another one (not that I was necessarily actively pursing another relationship), I decided to give up on the whole thing and just do what I do, mostly because I’ve other things to worry about and, whilst I have fancied a number of people, I’ve worked more on the friendships I have.

I don’t get sad and downbeat by my situation (well, sometimes I do, but it’s rare), but I do sometimes find myself missing having someone around, because, whilst I’ve all my friends in my life (and they are good friends), sometimes it does feel like it gets hard not having someone closer to me.

But only sometimes.

Most of the time, I don’t find myself caring about whether there is someone around and I feel quite content with that. There’s something I find enjoyable about being single, but I’m not sure what it is.

If a relationship did come along, I don’t think I’d say no. However, for now, where I am in life when it comes to that sort of thing suits me fine.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:42:90

Decent speed.

This is probably the least uncomfortable thing I’ve written about in a long time, and it’s not even that uncomfortable.

What have I become?

Maybe that means I’m feeling fine, or something.

I should probably point out that it took me a while to feel comfortable with being single and it, just like being in a relationship, can have some pros as big as it’s cons, so yeah.

<_<

One Thousand Word Challenge 11: A Field Trip

After an exciting few days that involved a field trip to Bathurst and some of it’s surrounding areas for a few days, and a moment on Saturday where, whilst I was still physically appearing, I kind of phased out of reality (or detached and floated off somewhere, I think), it’s now a Monday, and also a public holiday, thus being a day where I’m not earning the sweet, delicious coin I need to buy the supplies that keep me sustained, but at least the plants that I’m trying to grow are looking happy (except for the ones that are still seeds, for I can’t tell if they are doing well or not yet), so that’s always a bonus.

I’m not going to talk about the phasing out of reality moment because, to be honest, it’s not that interesting (although I doubt anyone would accuse me of being interesting when it comes to some [or a lot] of the things I’ve written here, so perhaps it’s more just that I don’t feel like writing about it, if that is indeed the case, although I’m not sure, so yeah), but I will attempt to write about the field trip, for that is something that happened before said phasing out of reality.

The beginnings of the field trip lie in the heart of the morning hours of the glorious day known as Thursday.

It was an early wake that I had, although not any earlier than usual.

Unfortunately my body decided that waking up well before any time I needed to be alert was a brilliant idea and thus I had less sleep than I had anticipated and hoped.

It had been about ten to eleven days since I last had what could be described as a decent sleep and thus I was left feeling much more tired than I hoped.

Unfortunately this somehow lead to me leaving later than I had hoped I would.

I got ready as quickly as I could and then took off, walking down to a road where I could catch a bus that would take me to university with great promptness, hoping that I would not be late, as there was a deadline for the time I needed to be there.

It would seem that it was not to be, for, due to leaving the house ten minutes later than I wanted to, I was going to arrive to the location of departure at university after the departure time.

Once in the city, I decided to make the decision to catch a cab the rest of the way. It turned out to be a good decision, for I arrived where I was meant to be with time to spare.

After sitting around for a while and having some tea (I prepared a thermos before leaving home as I like to take tea with me when I go somewhere early in the morning if it’s a location outside of Sydney), I hopped on one of the buses that was going to be driving my fellow students, as well as myself, around.

We left late.

To be fair, it was only about fifteen minutes and I didn’t regret taking the cab from the city, but still, it would have been nice to know beforehand.

Oh well.

We began to make our way out of the city using the underground tunnels, and once we were away from traffic, it did not take long for us to make it to our first destination; the Three Sisters in Katoomba.

I still don’t find them too interesting and I think the middle sister looks like a gorilla (something I’ve thought for a very long time).
We were given some time to wander around and take notes, and answer questions before we had to head off to our next destination which just so happened to be the fossil and mineral museum in Bathurst.

It was here that I met someone who I got along with quite well.

We took note of a cobweb between two rocks in one fo the display cases. It was… cobweb-like.

We were somewhat hungry, so he, a few others and I headed off for lunch (for we had some time to get food at this stop) and talked about nothing in particular.

Eventually it was time to leave. I asked one of the people running the field trip if I had time to go to the bathroom and they told me I did, so I went to the bathroom.

I then caused a delay with the buses (possibly).

We left and then made our way to Mount Panorama, did a partial lap, and then made our way to another location after that, which was some mystery location, but not before finding out that one of the students was left behind in Bathurst (someone went to pick them up).

The mystery location had some great views, but sadly we were only there for a few minutes. Maybe it was ten. I do not know. Either way, I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping that we’d have more time there to look at things (as I wanted to have some time to take a few good photos due to how the landscape was shaped, but you can’t win them all).

From there, we went to a hill and walked up to where the buses were told to wait for us. Along the way there was talking about some of the rock and soil, as well as looking for some rocks. It was as riveting as it sounds.

Well, to be fair, it was nicer than I’ve implied, but it was more the view and the environment than anything else.

The last place we were going to for the day (not including accommodation) was Mount Canobolas. Whilst looking out the bus window, I saw something that, once the bus stopped, had me leaving the bus immediately to see I could capture with my camera.

It was, to me, incredibly beautiful.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 19:35:15

Well, a decent time, to be sure.
Anyway, there’s more banality to come!

Big Night Sky

Alright, last post for the evening.

I’m feeling tired, so I’ll write in the morning instead of now.

I decided to make an attempt at astral photography last night, so I headed to Jubilee Park and started snapping away.

Of course, due to light pollution, this did not turn out as well as I hoped it would.
With that being said, if I had a car, I would have driven out of the city to take this shot.

Oh well.

It took a while to process, and I still think I’ve a long way to go with this kind of photography, but I do like how it turned out, mostly because a fair number of stars can still be seen.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Colossal Hedge Monster

This was made yesterday.

It was based on a photo I took a long time ago that a friend of mine used to reply to me recently.

I decided to adapt it.

I hope you enjoy.

A Mediocre Poem on Sleep

There’s truly no end to my genius… if my genius was actually genuine.

Ha ha, and so on.

Anyway, here’s something I just drummed up. Not great, but I like it.

I hope you enjoy.

—–

Lids so choose to flutter above and try to close the door on their guests
The guests to their best to try and keep the doors open
Far below is a gateway that expels heat and moisture whilst the doors let some liquid out
Mainly wetting the guests who try to ignore the act
Whilst from the gateway below a long rumble can be heard

Everything beings to turn and change their facing direction
The doors close and the gateway goes silent
But the guests will be there again
In a small number of hours
Whilst the gateway will open for various other attractions
