A Tree

Here is an “Abstract” photo (although, is it really?) of a tree that I took recently as, after almost seven weeks, I have my camera back.

It is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 109: Uni Students Make me Angry

Uni students.

Uni students.
Uni students.

Uni students make me angry.

Looking at them makes me angry.

I cannot believe the anger they manage to bring out of me sometimes, for it is an angry anger that is quite angry.

It’s cold and I’m having a bit of difficulty typing right now.

Anyway…

The other day I was walking to a lab when I saw two skinny guys with a stall that was about changing something around and recognising rights.
One of them was wearing a shirt with Karl Marx on it with “Rebel” written underneath it in a similar style to the Andre the Giant face with “Obey” underneath it.

When I saw what they were “protesting” about, I began to get really angry.
It wasn’t because I disagree with what they were protesting about (I do and I don’t; it’s something I’m not going to get into as it was about wording and whilst I support the overall fight for the rights of what they were trying to support, I don’t agree with the wording as I don’t buy into guilting people, besides which, that’s only my view on the thing and doesn’t change the fact that the overall issue is still something that needs to be addressed by more people, but that’s a story for another day); it was due to my thinking that they didn’t have a mix of people and they would probably be the first to jump up and talk about privilege because they’re young and stupid (and whilst I am young, I’m a genius).

Besides which, they wouldn’t have been doing what they were doing if they hadn’t heard a brief news story a few weeks prior about how someone wanted to change the wording of something. It his highly unlikely that what they were doing wouldn’t have happened as they don’t actually care.

Yes, I become irrationally angry about uni students and that’s the way it is.

However, something that really grinds my gears is hearing the conversations that uni students have.

You hear them say things like “I’m going to fight the corporations by posting on Twitter from my iPhone version whatever, because we need to take them down”, or “I was going to go out on the weekend but I’m not entirely sure as I’m beginning to find that not everything I do is as kosher as I thought it was and whilst I do think the institution of religion needs to be taken down, I need to make sure I embrace my fusion of Judaism Buddhist to the fullest extent so I can make sure I do my best to help heal the world”, or “I can’t believe this corduroy is half off!”, and I hear this and it’s incredibly annoying because they don’t realise just how pointless what they’re saying is and how it’s not going to make any difference, yet they say these things with the utmost weight and importance.

Uni students really make me irrationally angry.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 14:14:51

Much slower than I hoped, but hands being cold was probably a contributing factor.

To be completely honest, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with uni students. It’s more the rampant hypocrisy of some of them that annoys me.

With that being said, people “protesting” about something that does matter is still a good thing (and probably something I’ll poorly rant about here).

Pardon the exaggerations and irrationality.

Also, the “mix of people” bit was due to what was being “protested” about, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter.

Old Wharf

Here’s a picture I took in February whilst at Balls Head Reserve.

From what I’ve read, this wharf was used for coal transport a long time ago.
Now it’s just there, probably falling apart slowly, yet still standing.

I’ve been past this wharf a number of times.
I like how it’s a partially broken-down, worn out.

I also like the pattern of the wood.

This is my fifty-second entry into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.

Moored Boat

Here’s a photo I took whilst on 厳島.
This was whilst I was walking to the Natural Botanic Garden (or possibly through it at this point, as a few months ago I found out that I was looking for it whilst in it as it starts on the road I was walking along and I didn’t realise this).

How do I describe what I like about this photo, beyond its monochromacity (is that a word? Would “monochomism” be better?).

I like that this being in monochrome brings out some of the details.

I like that it’s quiet and in some ways, relaxing.

I guess I find it powerful and moving.

I really don’t know.

It gives similar (or the same; I don’t know) feelings that I have difficulty describing when I look out to the ocean.

I also like the boat sitting there.

This is my fifty-first submission for Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 108: On the Creature in the River Thames

So I was going to write about how some uni students (by that, I mean a good majority of them for some reason as I unfairly lump a lot of them together, but that’s my bias) really piss me off, but instead I’m going to write about these “sightings” of a creature in the Thames.

There have been two reported sightings of an unidentified creature in the Thames recently.
The areason as to why it is currently unidentified is that we do not have good footage of it yet.
With that being said, personally, I don’t believe it is a monster.

Here’s what I think it could be:

A whale that somehow got into the Thames.
It kind of looks like a whale to me.

A prank of some sort.

Viral marketing for a new monster film. Possibly a sequel to or remake of The Host.

Viral marketing for an event.

A seal or another known sea creature.

An unknown sea creature.

I don’t think it is the last though.

What really surprises me about this is that there is so little available footage of it.
I know that a lot of people don’t generally pay attention to their surroundings these days (or look around at all), but you’d think that if this was something unknown like this, there’s would be far more footage of it available to view, all at different angles and zooms and whatnot.

This makes me think mostly that it is viral marketing first and then a whale second.

But then again, in the general public, who really knows right now?

Maybe I’m being rather cynical about this, but I can’t help it.

This kind of thing happens a bit too much and then (most of the time) we’re left with some odd sort of hype machine and buy into something that we treat as magnificent, good, or…
You get the point.

I think it would be marvelous if it turned out to be an unknown sea creature. I really would. If it was a whale, that would also be marvelous.

If it was any sea creature, I’d be nonplussed about it, but happy at the same time as it wouldn’t be some sort of stupid viral marketing to get people to go see or buy something that will almost inevitably turn out to be not that great anyway.

With that being said, if it is… I don’t know. I ran out of steam about what I was going to write here, so now I’m gasping at the straws that dangle themselves in front of me, just out of reach.

What if this is actually a common occurrence and all the people that are the English are playing us for the fools that we so rightfully are?

That is always another possibility, now that I think about it.

Actually, it isn’t.

Anyway, I’m leaning towards this mostly being false. A viral marketing campaign that manages to “cleverly” trick people.

However, I’m looking forward to being wrong.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:43:04
Slower than I hoped.

Oh well.

Yes, I am being cynical.
No, I do not care.

Whilst not my worst bit of writing, it could certainly be much better.

Passing Storm

Earlier on in the year (in January), Ewe and I were in Katoomba to catch the sunrise on a Saturday morning, as well as to help Ewe’s mum out with some stuff around the house.

When we arrived on Friday (as there was no chance we were going to get up and make the commute Saturday morning), we saw a storm that appeared to be approaching.
Lucky for us, it didn’t come to us in what was then the near “Future“.
However, it didn’t appear that way for the (roughly) seven minutes we were standing there as I took pictures.

This is my entry into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 107: It’s a Friday Night

It’s a Friday night.
It’s a bit cooler than it was yesterday, but that’s okay as the temperature is meant to be getting lower as Sydney approaches winter.

It’s certainly a relief from what it was like in early March (much warmer than it usually is, which may not be a good sign).

I want to be out, taking photos, or perhaps even working on music, and yet I am sitting here, preparing to study as I need to get a lot done between now and Tuesday.

Yet, instead of doing that, I find myself spending time thinking about How I have traveled in life so far, as well as where I’m going, if I am indeed going anywhere.

Big things that don’t warrant much thought as there are far more pressing things to think about, such as learning formulas and how to use them.

And yet I cannot help myself right now as my mind likes to do its own thing and take me wherever it wants to go.

Suffice to say, I’m sitting at a desk trying to get to work and finding myself unable to due to the fact that I’m thinking about stuff that does not matter right now as there are far more important things on my plate.

I’m in a room in a fairly new location that is a fair bit more comfortable than the old place.
Maybe it’s the comfort that is making me think this way, as I probably do not like being comfortable with my surroundings.

Well, not too comfortable anyway.

I operate better when I’m restless (I think).

I think that part of my sitting here and not actually studying might also have to do with my being rather tired right now, as I’m lazier than usual when I’m tired.

Probably means I should get sleep more often, but I’m not complaining (I think).

Perhaps what I really need to do is stop typing right now and hit the books. Then, after hitting them , opening them and starting the studying process so that I can learn and retain the information that I need to be the best I can be at this point in time, but that may not happen as I’m thinking too much about my life whilst trying to bang out something that is serious, yet only partially succeeding.

Well, the seriousness is a full success, but the quality is is not.

Whilst I’m still fairly young, I feel that in some ways I should be doing a lot better than I am currently, and in a way that kind of sucks as I’m not really old enough to be thinking that way. It’s a pointless way for me to think, as I’m not near retirement, I’m doing okay (perhaps not as good as I wish I would be, but that’s neither here nor there) and I have a lot to do to keep me busy.

However, I can’t help but think about where I am right now.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:58:60
It’s one of those nights where I’m tired and procrastinating and decide to try and write about… something… and it ends up coming out average at best.

Oh well.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 106: Once More, Procrastination

It’s another day in the bag of cats full of chickens.

That is to say, I am sitting in the library at university, preparing myself for the inevitable point of the day where I throw my hands up into the air and declare myself lost beyond all forms of redemption and knowledge, forever floating throughout an empty vapid space by sliding along the carpet through the motion of one foot lifting, moving forward, then making contact with the surface underneath me, followed by the other foot doing the same thing, repeated for however long it takes me to get from one location to another if I so choose to travel in that manner, as there are other ways of getting from one point to another, but that is beside the point that is trying to be made at this particular point in time, of which there is no point to make and I am merely procrastinating without too much use of sesquipedalian loquaciousness; something that is rather unfortunate, now that I think about it, as that would make for a much more interesting read than what I am doing right now, which is just one really long sentence with no form or meaning beyond “I’m stringing together what I can in an effort to make it seem that I’m more profound than I actually am”, whilst a beat plays itself out in the phones of the head on my ears into the receptors and bone-like appendages (unless they actually are bones) that are located within the drums of my ears to help me hear the sounds that are being played out of my headphones right here, right now, because music is something that I thoroughly enjoy, unless it is not music that I enjoy.

And there was a bit that I enjoyed a fair bit.

I’m wondering as to why I bother wearing shirts on cold days.

That is to say, a shirt, for it would probably be more effective to wear multiple shirts at once, although it is not that cold, although it probably is in the mountains, where the temperature is usually lower than it is in Sydney due to reasons that I don’t quite understand (although I probably do [I think]), but perhaps it doesn’t matter as I’ll be having a sleep tonight and getting the rest that I should at night, but not before studying and hopefully seeing some people and learning and studying and listening to more music and banging away at the keyboard attached to my laptop, but not without copious amounts of procrastination, fascination, elaboration and desecration in a nation that has flagellation on its list of cancellations.

Perhaps I should just stop this and get to studying as I don’t have too long before I have to go to classes anyway.

But then, this would be far too short and I wouldn’t know what to do with myself because I don’t know what to do with myself.

Yep. Definitely going to study.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:18:66

Faster than yesterday.
Hooray?

I feel I’ve been a bit too neglectful recently, so hopefully I can up the output again.

Tracks up Close

Here’s one of the photos I took that got me in trouble.
The other two are almost the same as this one.

Anyway, for my fiftieth submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness, I decided to get a “Close Up” of train tracks (it is a themed MM).

I don’t have much to say about this photo.
I like how angular it is.

I like that it’s only a small section.

Train tracks, overall, don’t mean much to me, but I do like how they are very much a representation of an aspect of travel.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Long Exposure at Bondi Rocks

The monochrome photo here was my forty-ninth submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

These were some of the photos I took when I went to Bondi in the morning to do photography for my birthday.

It was mostly so I could practise long exposure shots, but I like how these turned out, as well as many of the other photos I took during that morning.

There’s a bit of silkiness and calmness to these ones, but they also feel very much in motion (to me).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
