Five-Hundred Word Challenge 105: A thing that happened on Sunday

An interesting thing happened to me on Sunday.

I was at a train station with my food shopping.
I took a few pictures of train tracks for my next submission into “Monochrome Madness” using my phone (as my camera is in the shop once again, or still, if I have mentioned anything about it since the start of March).

I first had one station agent come up to me telling me that I could not cross the yellow line.

I was crouching down and leaning slightly forward, but my centre of gravity was lower as I was not leaning too far forward.
He warned me that a train could come along and it was a safety concern.

Whilst he was correct, I told him I was fine and was just taking a picture of the tracks.
Besides which, at the station I was doing this, there was not going to be a train on that side of the platform for another ten to fifteen minutes and non-stopping trains don’t pass through there either.

Well, to be fair, it would be better for me to say that I’ve ever seen any non-stopping trains pass through there.

Anyway, another station agent came up and told me that I was not allowed to take photos on the platform as it was illegal due to security reasons.
I said that it was public property and there was nothing wrong with what I was doing.
He told me that it was illegal due to security reasons.

I said that there was nothing wrong with what I was doing.
I told him I was just taking a picture of the section of track that was directly in front of me.

He told me that it was illegal due to security reasons and if I continued he would call the police.

I told him I wasn’t going to blow up the station and that there was nothing wrong with what I was doing.

I tried to show him the picture I took to show him how harmless it was but he wouldn’t look.

He again told me that if I continued he would call the police.

I had stopped taking picture before the first time.

After a bit more back-and-forth, he repeated the “continue… police” bit again.

I was walking away by this point.

Now, it turns out that it is not actually illegal to take photos at a train station.

You need to ask for permission first and you’ll either be told you can and given a tag (perhaps with a form to fill out as well), or refused.

I found out on the internet and confirmed it at Town Hall station when I arrived there to change to a bus to head home and also talk to the station attendant there.

I have no problem with asking for permission, but I do take offense to having police action used as a threat or warning, because it’s a rather extreme reaction considering what I was doing.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:48:73

A bit slower, but that’s because I have been fairly quiet here.

Oh well.

Now, with all of this being said, I have to point out that the tone of the guy was also pretty unpleasant.
He also didn’t advise me of permission being required.
I was fairly calm throughout the whole thing, so I’m happy about that.

Also, what I wrote isn’t verbatim, but it’s pretty close.

The Grose River

Here’s a shot I took When I walked from Faulconbridge to the Grose River.

The walk I was on took me to this point, giving me a very open view of the valley and surrounding areas.

I think this is a rather relaxing “Landscape“.

To me, it feels quite quiet.

This is my submission for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Rusted Object

Here’s a photo that was taken on the same day as the last one.

As I was exploring around, I saw this, so I decided to take photos.

The rock I was on was a good number of metres above the ocean, so I wondered as to what it was used for.

I think it was mostly used as an anchoring point for either climbing down or for fishers.

Maybe it was used as a mooring point for boats, but it is quite high up for that, so I think that option is unlikely.

In any event, I like that it’s an object that’s mysterious to me.
It’s been weathered over time and (probably) taken a slightly different shape to what it used to look like.

This is my forty-eighth submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.IMG_3485 IMG_3488 IMG_3489

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 104: Another University Day

Another university day spent at university and a day before an especially long weekend for myself, due to the Easter long weekend and also due to not returning to work until Wednesday next week and, lastly, due to not being at university on Tuesday next week due to it being an early mid-semester break that throws me off a slight bit as I’d much rather it be in the middle of the semester instead of being after the fourth week as the semester doesn’t balance too well (or maybe it does), throwing things into chaos and disorder to an extent that is, really, only in my mind and not actually a thing as I’ll still be studying over the break anyway so I can make sure that I am doing the best that I can instead of just floundering along as I want to make sure that I pass and hopefully get a credit in the subjects that I am taking and therefore celebrate much harder than I actually would instead of getting all fails, but I’d still be happy with passes (and I’m aiming for passing at the absolute minimum as I will not accept anything lower so I have to study as hard as I possibly can from here on out), so I must study during the break to ensure that I do as well as I can do and hopefully better, reaching towards the star and beyond whilst sitting at a desk and burning words into my mind in a way that could be considered memory tattooing so as I never forget in any way, shape, or form until I no longer require the information, however long that may be and however long that may not be, depending on various factors; some within my control and some not within my control, so I will just work to do my best and then push further so my best gets better as I continue to absorb the knowledge like a well-made sponge whilst also making sure to precariously balance my joys found in music and photography and creating MS Paint masterpieces, alongside furthering my life that is spent at my job that I happen to enjoy whilst keeping my head above financial water and remaining a dark and brooding, misunderstood artist-type person who will forever remain an enigmatic mystery veiled in the fog of mystery and seduction as I slowly swing around on a rope and save people in a dashing manner whilst creating art that challenges the very notion of what art is and isn’t and at the same time bringing people to a higher understanding of what it is to be human, slowly making us all ascend to a higher plane of existence and hopefully bring everything into harmony and unison whilst coming to terms with the darkness that tries to overcome my should as I become a whole being once again and finally find my inner peace and am allowed rest.

Today is a chemistry day.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:53:81

Well, whatever the hell that was, it was what it was.
See how genius I am?

Water Over Rocks

Here’s a picture I took within the first couple of weeks of being back in Sydney after the Japan trip.

Ewe, Anna and I headed off to a beach, so I decided to do a bit of wandering around to take photos.

The “Dance” between water and rocks (and, by extension, land) is (to me) an interesting one.
They’ve been at it for ages.

This is my submission for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Imagine a World

It’s been a while since I’ve put up some sub-par poetry, so here you go!
This was meant to be uploaded whilst I was in Japan, but it didn’t happen… so yeah.

—–

Imagine a world where there were no sirens
Where construction didn’t make a sound
Where drilling did not ring in your ears
Where the scraping of nails on a chalk board was silent
Where grinding teeth could not be heard
Where car horns did not blare out in traffic
Where babies screaming was not known to the ear
Where loud arguments were never known
Where incessant buzzing was never found anywhere

It would not be a world worth knowing

—–

Anyway, now that that is done, it is done.

Huzzah.

Farewell to a Terrace

On the 15th of March 2013, I moved into a new place.

Well, to be completely honest, I signed a lease, went to the place I was going to be living in, went over the condition report, then headed to work as I wasn’t allowed to have the day off.

It was a two-storey terrace with two ground floors due to being built into the side of a hill.

On the condition report, the carpet was described as being “retro”.
It was old and crappy.

There was a bedroom under the upper ground floor that we referred to as “The Dungeon”.
Part of this was due to it not getting much natural sunlight.
Part of this was that it had a smaller, rectangular room attached to it that went under the veranda at the front and didn’t have good ventilation.
There were moisture absorbers in the room but they never were replaced, so opening the door and the windows for the room (there were windows inside between this room and the bedroom component) and leaving them open for long enough would leave the bedroom, the kitchen and sometimes the living room (The Dungeon was next to the kitchen which was next to the living room) smelling quite unpleasant.

The stairway between the ground floors was dangerous to navigate. Some of the stairs were bowed and some were shorter than the others. Due to always having slept in one of the bedrooms on the upper ground floor, I used them a lot and fell down them part of the way a few times.

There were a couple of times I fell up them.

There was mould that spread on some parts of the ceiling and a small hole that formed in the skirting board next to the stairs.

Due to tree roots growing through the pipes, there were a few times when they would become blocked which would lead to the kitchen would flooding with both water from the sinks and the bathroom (which was above the kitchen).

Due the pipe being connected to next door, there was once a shit storm in their back yard.

It was actually closer to a light drizzle, but still.

There was also the water feature in the living room that decided to run itself through a light fixture in the living room. We never found the source.

Our backyard was rather small and felt restrictive in some ways.

When one of the people I moved in with decided to move out after six months, my ex and I were a bit concerned as we were worried about covering the rent (although at the same time it was a good thing as there were a few issues).

Luckily enough he had someone he knew come around and check the place.
Je moved in at that point. We didn’t get along too often.

Just before Je moved in, we had someone in the smaller bedroom for about six weeks to a month to help keep the rent down.

About few months after Je moved in, we had someone else move into the smaller bedroom to help keep the rent down again.
It was also so they had some place to stay before they moved back to Victoria in December (they were spending about a year in Sydney). It was a friend of Ewe’s that I’d met a few times, so it was an easy choice to make.

During this period, the mood of the terrace was, overall, much better.
Everyone was getting along fairly well.

Once she left, we had another person come in and the mood was still good and everyone was still getting along.

Then I was dumped and life went to shit for a bit.
The third person left, I took the small room, Je moved into the upper ground floor big bedroom and our new third person took The Dungeon.

It was the longest I had not lived with a female.
I found it to be a weird experience.

From early 2014 until now, the relationship between Je and I began to improve. We still have stupid fights from time-to-time but overall things have been getting better. The ex was in my life and went again at one point.
That was hard, but it happened.

When we received the eviction notice in January of this year, I became a bit stressed, but I was also feeling apathetic about it at the same time.
Je decided he wanted to do his own thing for good reason.
I wanted him to stick it out with me and the other guy.
Part of the reason as to why was that I felt that we formed a team to some extent.
Another part of it was that I didn’t want to pay more rent.
However, it was mostly due wanting to still live with him as, despite getting annoyed at times with him (I’m sure there are times where I annoy him), he had become a friend and someone that, overall, I enjoyed living with.

He decided to stay but the other guy decided to go his own way.

I was too tired to argue for him staying at this point, but I did try to get him to change his mind on occasion.

Whilst I was in Melbourne near the end of February, Je inspected a place he had his eye on for a few weeks.

As soon as I got back, we applied for it.
The following day, our application was approved.
We were pretty happy about it.

We began packing and cleaning as we had to sign the lease in two weeks. It was a generous amount of time.
Whilst this was happening, we also were hunting for someone to take The Dungeon and then move with us.

Although we eventually managed to get someone into the new place after we signed the lease, initially we weren’t successful.

Gradually everything was packed away, but I wasn’t finished until the night before. I was feeling exhausted most of the time so I was packing slower than I wanted.

During the week prior to moving, I began to feel a bit sad.

I was lucky enough to be able to live next door to Anna, Ewe and Si.
Part of the reason as to why I wanted the place was so I could live next door to Ewe.
As our places are being renovated, they have to move as well, but they’re going to be easy to reach.

We moved out on the 9th of this month.
With the assistance of Ewe and Si as well as two guys with a moving truck, we were able to move the whole terrace in a day.

Je stayed behind to do some of the remaining cleaning.

When it came to the second last bit of stuff to go in Si’s car (we had finished with the truck at this point), I switched with Je and began cleaning the remaining dirty spots of the terrace.

Later on Si took me to the new place one more time to drop off the remaining items before taking me to a shopping centre to get the old keys cut to give the full amount of copies to my now-former real estate agent.

Later on in the evening, I went back to the place and threw out rubbish I left sitting on the veranda into the bins of a business on the street.
As they had filled the bins of the residents who lived on the street more than a few times, I felt it only fitting.

In the afternoon of the 10th, I went back to throw out a few more things as well as collect a parcel I had Ewe grab for me. There was a plastic-wrapped copy of the Inner West Courier that had been sitting in the backyard since roughly week or so after moving in.
At this stage, it had a small plant growing out of part of where it was rolled up.

It managed to outlast many of my relationships that ended whilst living there.

On the 12th, after having breakfast at my regular café I headed back to the terrace, went to where I threw it out and took it to the new residence.
I wanted to see the plant grow.

—–

Once I had finished cleaning, I put on a song that was melancholic and stood in the kitchen.

I had lived there for six days short of three years.

I knew I wasn’t going to miss the place, but I was the last person remaining from the original three that moved into the terrace and it was an odd feeling for me.
There were some ups and many downs whilst living there.
I had seen a lot of relationships I had go.
Some were worth the loss and some weren’t.
Some relationships became much stronger whilst living there.

I fell hard at some points in that place, but I always picked myself up.
Towards the end, whilst I was not too happy, I was much more confident in myself as I felt I was able to be “weird” and, in some ways, unrestricted again.
I felt driven to do work more on the things that I do.
I wasn’t necessarily as happy as I wanted to be, but I certainly was doing a lot better than I had in 2015.

It was funny how a string of unfortunate things managed to line up with living there as it was a place that was full of anger and sadness.
There were times of severe depression, emptiness and despair, but in the end, I came out of it okay and I am now able to continue on in a new place with Je.

I said that I wasn’t going to miss the place and that still stands.
However, I was going to miss living next door not only to a person who became someone I can call my best friend, but also three people that were, in a way, family for me.

I went into The Dungeon one last time.

A friend of mine had come over the week before and we sat in the bedroom part of it, just talking about stuff.

It wasn’t a pleasant room, but it was still one that had been part of my life in some capacity.

I walked through the place once more.
I said goodbye and then left.

Monochrome Sunrise

Here is a picture I took recently.

I was at Bondi early in the morning just after my birthday.
I went there to get pictures of the sunrise again, as well as take some time-lapse photos.

I like this photo as you don’t see many photos of the sunrise in monochrome.

My view probably has more to do with not coming across many more than anything as I imagine there’s actually quite a of monochromatic sunrise photos out there.

I also like how there’s a small wave in the shot. I think it adds a bit more to the photo in this instance.

This is my forty-seventh submission for Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.

Swans

I was lucky enough to get a shot of Swans enjoying a day at the beach together.

They must’ve been taking a brief break after finishing the soon-to-be-released album.

You can tell it’s Swans as Bill Rieflin is there, far to the left, doing what he does when he can.

Yes, I decided to reference the band because I could.

To be honest, I haven’t seen swans at the beach before (and would never expect them to be at this beach in particular), so I had to get this photo when I saw them.

It was whilst I was in Melbourne.

Perhaps they were there due to the calmness of the waters.

This is my forty-sixth submission into Leanne Cole‘s Monochrome Madness.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 103: At University

Today this five-hundred word challenge is brought to you by university, where I have the most facial hair by virtue of not shaving for two weeks as everyone around me isn’t old enough to grow more than a few hairs and eagerly await the ability to grow big peaches of hair on their face due to some sort of race to prove ones beard-status, thinking it looks attractive (sometimes it does) but not realising that they look like they’ve come out of some sort of pile of hay…

But I digress.

Or do I?

Perhaps I am talking about myself..

Anyway…

So it’s interesting to be sitting here with a brief break, resting my back as my huge chunk of boulder that I refer to as a laptop decides to relentlessly strike blow upon blow upon my back for no other reason than I have one that’s not fit for spinal consumption.

I’m actually feeling pretty good about university right now. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that I’m consuming yogurt whilst sitting in a library whilst beating the living hell out of the keyboard of my laptop whilst listening to something that could be considered heavy and I’m not doing any of it with a shred of irony as I don’t fit into that “it’s all ironic” crowd that I probably should, due to my dressing for mostly practical purposes and owning a shirt where a man is putting his head up another man’s ass whilst someone looks on in shock, and another shirt that has, in a fairly professional-looking font, the word “masturbate” on it.

Oh yes, I lack the irony that my hipper colleagues so readily exemplify with their very being of existence at all times, somehow all being the irony singularity at once and never at the same time.

I should be using this time to study, but I’d rather use it to type away, making this post for the day.

I have a lecture coming up, but in a way, this helps me prepare for it as I’m keeping the brain working in a thought-based mode.

Despite it being used for more creative purposes, it’s still thinking and thinking is good for the learning.

I do genuinely have a good feeling about this semester as I’m taking on more subjects which is nice, but everything feels a bit easier.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that, unlike everyone around me, I am as ancient as the cosmos that I inhabit (at least compared to them) and yet somehow they mistake me for being around their age (that probably has to do with the copious amounts of plastic surgery I have had over an incredibly short amount of time {never}).

It reminds me that… I don’t know what it reminds me of.

ARGH! THE WALL HAS BEEN HIT ONCE MORE!

I think that, in all honesty… nope. Definitely the wall.

Can I scale it? Yes.

I’ll now climb the wall.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:41:24

Pretty happy with that as I don’t think I’ve done one here before.

Now back to wall climbing.
