Beer Spider

Here is a picture of a leaf-curling spider using a beer label instead of a leaf.

A friend and I saw it whilst walking from Coogee to Bondi a couple of weeks ago.

I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but it feels as though the spider is living in “Harmony” with the wrapper, despite the wrapper being a non-living object.

In another sense, the spider is using it to remain in harmony with nature as much as it can.

Perhaps there were no good leaves around when it came across this.

This is my submission for this week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post.

I hope you enjoy.

Wall Patterns

Here is another shot I took whilst with Leanne Cole.

What I like about this photo is that the lines on the building are creating a fair number of shapes due to how they’re angled.

It is a colourful building, but it reminds me of glaciers due to this particular part of it.

This is my forty-fifth entry into Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness.

As this was a themed one with the theme of “straight”, I thought this shot fit the theme well.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 102: A Week of Studying, Packing, Cleaning, Music…

Originally, I was going to make this post about Je, as it was my one-hundredth five-hundred word challenge and we’re moving to another place, so I thought it would be a nice thing to do.

Then I wondered if I should have done that as… I don’t know.

I’m not big on celebrating milestones, so the idea of making this a celebratory post about how I reached one-hundred five-hundred word challenges went right out the window with the bath, the baby, the water and the whale.

I found myself devoid of things to write about as… well… it’s been a bit of a full-on week.

A week of studying, packing, cleaning, music, study, packing, cleaning, work, music, studying, packing…

You get the idea.

I probably could have done a lot more though, as I am more than aware that I’ve squandered more time than I intended to, but that’s now in the past and the past is behind me.

I’m still trying to decide as to what I want to make this post about but I have no idea.

That’s probably a good thing as now I’m able to entertain you all with something that is not entertaining at all in the slightest, unless it is actually entertaining, of which then I have to swallow my words somehow as I’ve decided for you what is and isn’t entertaining without your input or consent and that’s just not very fair.

Now, how do I get around to swallowing words if they do not have a perceptibly physical form when they leave my mouth hole?

Perhaps there is a way to do this, but, to be honest, I’m not interested in finding out how it would occur, as there are some things that are better off not being known.

Still, even if some things are known, it doesn’t necessarily take away the feeling of mystery and wonder that can be accompanying whatever it is that is then known, as opposed to it being unknown, which it was once, yet still had a sense of mystery and wonder back then due to the unfamiliarity with whatever it was, is, and forever shall be until it is no longer it and then something else, which would still make it it, but not the it that it was.

But suppose that it was never it as it was another it from the start, making it an it that was never it in the beginning?

Then it would still have been it, but possibly either less known or more known as it was, depending on how much one knew about it.

Of course, there is really no way of knowing what it was, but merely what it wasn’t, unless what it was was also known and what it wasn’t wasn’t known.

So I think this afternoon is going to be slow, but that’s possibly a good thing for me right now.

Still got a bit of cleaning to do though.

Unless cleaning knows that it’s it.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:24:70

Well, I guess that’s it for writing today.

Written at my desk at home.

Early Morning at Bondi Rocks

Here’s one of the photos I took on the day after my birthday.
I wanted to celebrate my birthday by getting up early and taking photos at Bondi, so I did.

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned that previously.

Oh well.

This is my (late) submission for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week.
The theme is “Half-Light” and I think that this photo represents the theme well due to there still being a great amount of shadow despite the sky beginning to light up.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

A Rule of Threes Joke

Whilst I was in Melbourne, I spent some time at St. Kilda and took some photos.

Here’s one of them.

For a lot of people, they feel that in some way, this image is like their “State of Mind” (yes, I’m ripping off Bymarion, so go check her stuff out because it’s awesome [yes, this is a haphazard attempt at making a plug and I don’t care because her stuff is awesome]).

I have a feeling that a lot more people in the world feel this way than don’t.

I know I have on occasion.

When I took this picture, I did it as I thought it would make an interesting shot.
I then realised that I could use the railing to hide the boats sitting on the water.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 101: Nothing of Interest

Today is the day that university resumes for me, so instead of talking about that, I’m going to just make stuff up in no particular order and seeing what happens in the long run because, hey, I don’t think I have much else to do right now other than things that I’m avoiding doing because I have no good reason to end this sentence with.

So… anyway… something!

Actually, I thought I had more to come up with today, but that seems not to be the case.

Quite frankly, I find that rather annoying, but what else can I do about it other than keep smashing my keys without any form of mercy in the hopes that my words end up making some kind of sense, seeing that I’ve got nothing to write about and am merely throwing things tog ether to see what happens whilst listening to someone speak to me at the same time which is taking my focus away from my writing?

The issues with keeping something playing in the background that requires more of my focus than I am willing to give to it, therefore creating the eternal battle between what will have my attention at any given time.

Now, where was I?

Oh right. I was on my bed and it turns out that I’m still on my bed.

How interesting.

So anyway, today there’s packing for the moving and studying for the learning.

There’s other things that I need to take care of as well.

Personally, I’d rather bathe myself on a bath of chocolate and slowly watch my face dissolve as I realise that enmity had taken over a little too much and the chocolate was a bit more acidic than chocolate should be.

It would be really acidic chocolate.

I’m beginning to think that… nope, still have nothing of interest or importance to say.

Sometimes the moving process can be daunting when you’ve accumulated more stuff than you want, but you still pack it all anyway as it’s become part of your hoard.

However, when you move, you then slowly go through everything and work out what you are going to get rid of and then actually get rid of it.

I’ve found that I have far more stuff than I actually desire to have, so I’ going to work through everything and get rid of a lot of it once I’m in the new place as I’ll have a bit more time to do it.

Maybe I’ll not get rid of it and see if there’s enough stuff to build a second home.

Of course, I do not have nearly enough stuff to do that, but someone can dream.

It is going to take a while, but it does need to be done at this stage of my life.

The books shall remain untouched though as you can never have too many books.

Well, maybe you can, but that’s not something I want to consider.

After all, I do like books.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 07:22:06

So you may be wondering why (at the time of this writing) there’s two of these listed as being number ninety-nine.

I’ve got to go readjust the numbers as one did ran over the word count, so I need to fix it.

Docklands

I was in Melbourne last weekend to spend some time with my brothers and step mum.

I was also there for a photography lesson with Leanne Cole.
It was fantastic.

I was able to learn about how to do long exposure shots and it helped quite a lot.

After taking a few snaps and getting some food, we started working.

Leanne lent me a filter and mount to use for my camera and showed me how to set up for the shot, as well as suggesting and taking me to parts of Docklands to shoot based on what would work for the day.

Yes, I am plugging Leanne Cole.
I don’t care.
It really was a wonderful experience and I recommend it.

What I really liked about long exposure photography is how it can make a lot of things look smooth and still.
There’s a certain quiet atmosphere to them that’s quite relaxing to look upon.

The last shot is my forty-fourth entry into Leanne Cole’s “Monochrome Madness“.

I’ll post more of the shots I took in Docklands at another time, but for now I’ll leave you with these.

Despite them showing that I’m very new to long exposure, I like how they turned out.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 100: The day of the sun

Today is Sunday, the day of the sun, in which we celebrate the moment when the sun tried to eat the universe and failed horribly, then decided to go within itself to prevent itself from doing such a silly, insane act, thus creating the star known as the sun, as we refer to it, that we also happen to rotate around with some sort of speed that cuts through space like a hot knife through a cold knife.

Yep. There’s no end to my imagination when it comes to these things.

However, this is a story that is so true that you will have no way of believing the truth in it.

So anyway, it was a cold and lonely day and the sun (formerly known as Roderick) was waking up after a night spent going on a drunken bender.

the three day growth was real and it had had enough of the killer headache (it had been one second far too long to want to deal with in any capacity).

Then it started getting really angry and started raging at everything, slowly punching all the other stars and kicking the planets as hard as it could because it was annoyed.

you see, Roderick had a hangover cure that was perfected and needed it badly, for the drunken bender was something that was not intentional.

Someone had stolen the hangover cure and Roderick wanted to know who did, but no one was confessing (because no one knew who did, thus preventing Roderick from finding out).

Eventually Roderick got so angry about not getting the information that Roderick decided that the only way to go from here was to go supernova.

Everything began to get consumed by the massive amounts of energy that were being released and the explosion was amplified by the headache and rage that was… raging… inside of Roderick.

It spread quite far, quite fast and it seemed that there was nothing that could be done to stop the inevitable.

It didn’t take long before the entire universe was being consumed by this explosion.

Suddenly, Roderick realised that this path was unnecessary and had gone on for far too long.

It might have also helped that Roderick realised that the cure was in its three day growth.

Roderick knew that the only way to stop what was happening by going within itself and taking the cure to its core.

Using all of its might, Roderick began to slowly force its way within itself, pushing past all the energy that was rushing past at a continuously accelerated pace, gradually becoming more and more damaged the further in it went, but refusing to stop, for whilst it was cold, the universe needed saving that day.

Eventually Roderick got to the core and saw its headache and rage.
Using what strength it had left, it launched as hard as it could towards these two entities, holding the cure aloft.

Then Roderick was reborn as the sun.

That is why there’s Sunday.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:45:24
Pretty happy with that time as I paused a bit towards the end.

A wonderfully stupid story to read on your Sunday.

Happy Sunday.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 99: Something About Housemate Hunting and a Swim

Well, it’s that time again where I try to bang out as many of my five-hundred words as possible as fast as possible using only my nose and forehead as the devices which shall touch the keyboard in a prompt and timely fashion.

You know what I do not like doing?

Hunting for housemates.

It has been a long and arduous process that has not been helped by the fact that Je an I need to find a new place to live, which has now happened.
We need to fork out a fair bit of money to take it, but we’ve still found it and that’s the main thing.

Now we need to see if we can get our current place rent free for the next few weeks and hope we find a third to move into the new one.

It’s stressful for absolutely no reason as, at this stage, we’ve ample time to get everything sorted out so we won’t have to worry about it.
The hope is that we get someone who won’t be flaky, as a lot of that has been happening.

I was in Melbourne over the weekend to spend some time with my brothers and step mum as well as get a lesson in photography from Leanne Cole, which I’ll talk about later in the week (I found it to be totally worth it).

I felt a bit bad about it as I felt that I should have been with Je looking for places.
However, it worked out. I had a brief, but good rest and Je found a place.

Well, I was still organising people to be interviewed as prospective housemates to move into our place, then move house with us, but still, I did have a (somewhat) relaxing one.

Then I came back, we got the place and now we’re fielding to move only into the new place.

As said before, it has been stressful.

Ewe, Si and I went to the beach today.
I’ve been doing fairly alright, but flipping out a little bit inside.
Going for a swim certainly helped relieve a lot of that.

We went to Maroubra; a beach that I haven’t had a swim at for a very long time.

We were able to get fairly far out and still be standing whilst having big waves to body surf, which we did.

At times we got dumped by the waves, but it didn’t feel like it mattered as (strictly speaking for myself) it was so incredibly relieving, as going for a swim tends to be.

I came out feeling a lot better than I had on Monday, and that’s a good thing, I think.

I think that I stress unnecessarily at times, but… I have nothing really to follow that up with.

I find that, as I get older I become calmer and get better at handling pressure (I think).
Sometimes it’s hard, but at least I can find peace and calm in the ocean.

A good thing.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:58:51
Just under!
Well, there’s still a bit of wiggle room there.

I think I should work on my stressing less more.

Written in bed.

Yellow-winged Grasshopper

Here’s a picture taken on the same day as the last one.
It was taken early into the walk.
I was lucky enough to be allowed to get close enough to get a “good” shot of this little creature.

It might’ve had to do with what seemed to be a problem with one of its wings; I’m not sure.

Grasshoppers can represent a few of the “Seasons” (the theme for this week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post).

As it is currently summer in Australia, this one was taken on a summer day that was hot at certain times.

Probably not everywhere, but for where I was, it felt hot, but that’s probably due to walking along a track with little coverage on a day that lacked clouds most of the time.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
