Hands and Hair

I was bush walking alone on Tuesday as I needed to get out of the city and didn’t want to wait for someone to come with me anymore.

I went to a place I hadn’t been before, marveled at the beauty, swam, took photos, contemplated the beauty of nature…

I’ll talk about the place another time, but for now here’s a photo I took.

After my short swim, I took some photos of myself (usually when I take photos of myself, I like to pull stupid faces or poses as I think it’s more enjoyable), then I started “experimenting”.

I tried to position my hands in my hair at certain angles and in different ways, looking to see what would come from it.

I’m pretty happy with the results.

I’m not sure what to make of this photo, but I like the shape of my hands and the various textures that are coming through.

I like how there’s bits of light that are making parts of my hair much brighter.

I like that it looks like my hair is trying to escape from my hands and my hands seem to be trying to keep my hair contained.

I like that it could also represent some sort of intense sensation being experienced.

This is my forty-third entry into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.
You should go see her work, as well as the other things that people are submitting into MM.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

The Sea and the Land

Here is another picture I took whilst in Newcastle.
I like this one due to  the how the colours work together, how despite the land not taking up as much of the photo as the sea, it still being important to the image, the waves…

It is fair to say that I like everything about the image.

I think it’s a pretty relaxed one as well.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Two Men on a Bench

Here is a picture of two men on a bench on the grounds of the Tokyo Imperial Palace.
There’s an interesting story behind this image.

Actually, there isn’t.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s photo challenge for this week. The theme this time is “Life Imitates Art“.

My original plan was to head out to the Royal National Park and get a shot of an area that I had done before, but it would have only worked iff an overcast day fell on one the days I was able to go (which, according to the weather report [assuming doesn’t change], would not have been that overcast) and the clouds allowed sunlight to pass through in a certain way whilst I was at the lookout point I would be using to take photos.

I’m still going to head to the Royal National Park and take photos, but due to the unlikeliness of it being an overcast day, I doubt the photos would work as an “update”, but they still would probably make for a nice comparison.

Anyway, I remembered a photo I took whilst in Japan and thought that it surely would have been comparable to a piece of art as the image was familiar to me for reasons beyond my taking it.

Lo and behold, I was right.

Annora Spence has created two artworks that my image is slightly similar to.

It is a bit of a stretch, but I do feel that they can be compared.

As a side note, I uploaded a monochromatic shot of the same two people last year.
I think this one is better.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 98: It’s Valentine’s Day

Today has been an interesting day.

Well, to be honest, it hasn’t actually been that interesting, but it certainly has had some things happen in it.
Whether they’ve happened to me or not is something that I am unable to comment on at this particular point in time.
Ghat is to say that nothing of particular note happened today. I did have breakfast with someone, but it was a catch up and did not lead to dangerous and sexy escapades.

I could have probably skipped on the danger, but I wanted sexy escapades, with some sort of nice action montage as well, showing me doing my taxes in some sort of furious manner (despite them already being done), and other events of interest!

Today has mostly been an excursion in learning how much lazier I become on a small amount of sleep, which turns out to be something I learn far more often than I should and subsequently forget far more often than I should.

I’ve been making the attempt to write for a good number of hours, occasionally getting into an upright position to try and combat the relentless dry heat that is refusing to give me a break when I need it most, typing out a few words and then going back to lying down and secretly crying on the inside as the hope fades away when I need it most, whilst keeping a shiny, chrome, cool exterior that says “I can do what I want, yet I choose to lie here defeated as no one does it cooler than I”, and by Jove, I was right!

So, it was hot and I was tired.
At this stage of the day, whilst I am still hot, my skin doesn’t feel like it is burning anymore, so that’s a nice plus.

Thank you day for deciding that it was best to get a bit cooler to stop my continual internal complaining about the heat, for I am feeling a bit like I should have more sleep tonight as there wasn’t enough last night, therefore allowing me to have more sleep and feel more awake as in my current state, I’m grumpy and would rather not do a thing, yet things must be done for the day to be completed as completely as possible, or something.

In other news, today is Valentine’s Day, known mostly for people throwing flowers at each other and force-feeding horses huge slabs of average cheese whilst reciting bad poetry continuously until the horse decides the best chance it has to try and get its waddle on (as it would be pretty bloated by all the cheese by the time it realises the only way to stop the madness is to run away) and getting as far away from the action as possible.

Valentine’s day is a day where it’s actually OK to go around eating the plants from people’s gardens in a bid to… I don’t know… cause superior romance to occur in our lives.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:56:53

I reached a point where I realised that, despite my desire to write, I had to do something to justify wasting most my waking time today.
I think I’ve succeeded… somehow.

At least in making something that is part life, part “wishful” thinking and part something else entirely.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 97: The Past Week (Kind of)

I’m currently sitting on my bed, in my underpants, allowing myself to sweat as it is, for the first time in a number of days, feeling like something close to an Australian summer day.

Still, I wouldn’t necessarily mind if it was a little cooler, but I’m not suffering, so I’m not too bothered by the weather at the moment.

This week has been a fairly long one, and yet it has also passed by quite quickly.
Well, it has been perceived as both anyway, as the flow of time doesn’t seem to actually shift around.

The final exam for my subject has been and gone. I don’t think I did well, but I don’t really care that much.

Wednesday was a work day and it was enjoyable.

Thursday came and went. It was a mix of up and down, but I don’t think that I would have preferred it any other way. However, I did end up heading home feeling somewhat drained and down, but that happens a lot when I head home from hanging out with someone or a group, so it wasn’t necessarily out of the ordinary.

Friday was another work day and that was when I think I started feeling the weight of expectation that I unfairly put on myself for no reason whatsoever.

Part of today was spent with Je looking for a new place to live, as we have to move.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned that recently or not.
Now that it’s mentioned, you know.

I bought ice cream on the way home and now am here, sweating in my underpants, listening to kind of sad music and feeling a bit sad, as I’m probably going to feel down for a few days, but such is life.

It’s a singular wave in a boundless ocean that occasionally comes across others.

Well, that’s probably not the most accurate metaphor that I could make, but it somehow feels a bit appropriate, so I’m going to stick with it, because I can.

I’m on a break for a few weeks before I have to return to study, but they’re going to be fairly busy, as is the way of things. I think that right now I mostly want to spend time resting, but I cannot (although I still will) as there are many things I need to take care of, which is OK as keeping busy will stop me from dwelling on things that could have been too much, so I won’t be feeling too down.

At the same time, my mind is full of things that don’t make me feel too flash, but I’m pretty sure I’ll deal.

At this present moment, what I’d love to be doing is sitting on a cliff and watching the waves roll on, staring out and letting my mind unravel and go through whatever thoughts it needs to.

I’ve not been feeling the best since Newcastle.

Still, I think the next few weeks will turn out pretty well.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:46:85

Wow.
This post seems somewhat confused.
Life.
I think I’m mostly craving a lengthy break to relax and think, but it’s not going to happen.

This post probably comes across as some sort of whinge.

I don’t know.

Oh well.

I think it’s mostly to do with memories.
They’re like the corners of my heart.

For now, I shall up shut.

Written in bed.

Atomic Bomb Dome

Here’s a few photos I took whilst I was at the Atomic Bomb Dome (actually called the Hiroshima Peace Memorial) in Hiroshima.

The site represents a lot of things for a lot of people.
Probably the most common would be that the past shouldn’t be forgotten.

The monochrome one is my forty-second submission for Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

I hope you enjoy.

A Wave

Here’s a photo I took whilst in Newcastle yesterday.
I’ll talk about my time in Newcastle at another time as I’m pretty tired right now and need to finish studying for the evening (which won’t happen as I’m probably going to crash a few minutes after finishing this off).

It didn’t take much “Time” before this wave crashed.
Nor did it take much time for others to do the same.
A lot of time did go by whilst taking photos of waves, but it was time spent well, filling me with enjoyment.

This is my submission into The Daily Post‘s weekly photo challenge for this week.

I think it works with the theme as it captures a moment during the sudden change of the wave.

Also, I think it’s a wonderfully odd-looking shot of a wave.

It looks so weird and kind of glacial in its shape and texture.

I’m pretty happy that it turned out as well as whilst it is clearly in motion, it doesn’t seem that way.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 96: Something… I don’t know

Today is the day of which is a Saturday, known as the day where some person sat down and caused mass panic as it was something that no one had ever done before.

This panic was so massive and widespread that society as it was known at that time ceased to function immediately, causing the shut down of everything and explosive amounts of VIOLENCE.

Personally, I believe there are more legitimate reasons as to why Saturday has its name, but sometimes something exceptionally stupid is more fun to read than the actual thing.

Sometimes.

So, it’s raining, I’m sitting in bed in my underpants and about to start getting into everything I need to get done in order to become the ultimate in knowing a few things that will enable me to…

Actually, I’m just sitting in my bed in my underpants, but study shall soon commence.

If there’s one thing I really like about the rain, it’s that it encourages curling up in a blanket.

Although, to be fair, I just like the rain.

I like a lot of things, now that I think about it.

Still, I do like the rain.

I think that somehow I might be stuck on a loop right now, trying to stall for time and come up with more words until my mind jogs back into place.

But you know, if it is indeed trying to jog back into place, why doesn’t it just run instead?

It would save a bit of time and it’s all about the metaphor in those past few sentences, as it wouldn’t really be running and whilst it may be using energy to remain powered (I don’t quite know but I imagine it is indeed the case [indeed]).

Where was I?

So the rain is water and water is the rain.

Nope, stalling for time again.

This is where things get hard as I’m trying to type as fast as I can whilst making as few mistakes as possible, essentially trying to avoid editing by getting it perfect the first time and I’m talking about something I don’t really want to talk about, getting sidetracked to the point where I pause as I need a break and then come back to bashing this out an hour later as I really should finish this off instead of leaving it only partially finished, as it’s still here and staring me down, threatening to blow me away if I’m not careful.

It did stop raining though, which means I can be lazy and head up the road for breakfast.
I can also spend some time studying up there, so long as I remain focused on learning and don’t get sidetracked by the inevitable fate of the universe as it slowly presses into my version of reality and consumes itself from the side.

Yes, I am literally just making things up right now, but it might just be entertaining enough to read.

One day, I’ll write something that makes a little more sense.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:51:90

There’s certainly a lot of trial and error that comes into doing these, but that’s also part of the “fun”.

Written in bed.

Snail

During a walk earlier in the morning (a few weeks ago), I came across a snail.

I thought it was a bit odd as there were no other snails around (that I could see), it was on a loose road and I don’t think it had rained through the night.

Then again, I am unfamiliar with the world of snails.

I took a picture as I thought it was pretty cool and I also wanted to see if I could capture it well.

I’m not sure if I did, but at least I gave it a go.

Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“ was themed this week.

The theme was “curves” and I found it a bit challenging, as I didn’t know what I could find that had curves.
Then I remembered the snail.

It’s shell is curved and somewhat hardy.
It also has a great pattern.

This is my forty-first entry into “Monochrome Madness”.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 95: It’s Time for the Almighty Cram

It’s the morning and I’m currently awake, hence my writing this.

Surprising, I know.

Still, it’s the first time in a while that I’ve been up and writing here as usually I do it in the evening as it’s a lot easier to procrastinate then than it is now, although this is being productive in a sense, so it’s not really procrastinating.

Anyway…

So today I’m off to work and tonight the almighty cram begins as I want to ensure I do well on my final exam and it being only a few days away, I figured that if I spend a lot of time cramming, I’ll be able to retain more information than I thought I would.

My biggest problem with the subject is the amount of terms that I need to be familiar with.

I can explain some of the things I’ve learned about fairly well (such as meiosis and mitoses, enzymes, some DNA processes, and something else that eludes me at the present moment), but I cannot remember most of the terms.

It was only this morning that I remember that the order of meiosis (or was it mitosis?) is prophase, prometaphase, anaphase, telophase, and cytokinesis.

I think.

So, the almighty cram will begin soon. There will be a brief respite to review a gig up in Newcastle, as well as work on Monday, but still, it shall be as righteous as it will be furious and I’m not quite looking forward to doing it, but I have to as I really want to make sure I pass and then go into full-time study without issue.

Not too fussed that I’ll be well out of my “youth” when I finally finish; I just want to make sure that I do what I want to do and if that involves many years spent studying, then so be it.

I throw down the gauntlet to the prospect of many years to come and I take to it like a hot knife through the butter of life.

I kick reason to the curb and prepare to stare down my enemy that is the jaws of life and do not flinch, preparing to grapple with the inevitable mystery and… mystery of it all!

You get the idea.

Suffice to say, I’m somewhat excited about what lies ahead of me right now, but the next few days are going to be very intense.

That’s the way it should be as I have a lot of work to do (and it’s not for lack of studying, let me tell you, although really, I could have studied a lot more than I did, but there’s no real time to ponder what could have been as right now it’s all about what will be).

Will I pass? To be honest, I do not know, but I certainly hope so.

Either way, so long as I give it my all and make sure not to attack any ducks or fight some sort of corporeal ghost fish.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:59:47

Somewhat surprised I remembered the order of meiosis and mitosis; not surprised I forgot that it was for both and not one.

Now, if only I could remember as to what happens in each one.

Whilst I am aware that cramming isn’t necessarily beneficial, for me a this point it will be as it will help me remember the terms I need to.

Written in bed.
