A Boat and Flowers

This is another picture that was taken (with my phone) during one of my walks.

I like boats and I like flowers, so here’s a photo of a boat and flowers.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 94: Something About Feelings (I Think)

What a day.
What an absolute day of a day.It was a day where I had far too much caffeine as I needed to do something to somehow offset the lack of sleep I had last night.
I’m pretty sure I was thinking about how I’m older than a significant portion of the students doing the subject that I’m doing, but that could just be the caffeine that is still in my system rearranging the memories to somehow favour me in a better way than I thought they could, or something.

Suffice to say, I am older than most of the students.
I’m also glad that I’ve been working for over a decade now and am still fairly “young”. That makes me happy.

Anyway, that’s not what the post for tonight is about.

Tonight, it’s about something that’s not entirely unrelated, but somehow still related to university, in that it’s related to people, as they attend university (sometimes) and do the things that they do to help them get ahead in life so that one day they can have a crisis of study choice and then go and do something else for a while, kill off their imagination and then work a 9 to 5 desk job that will leave them feeling as though their is a hole in their chest as they never set out to become a baron of the skies.

Yes, I am rambling and being overly critical at the same time, as I know that that kind of thing has a lot more complexity behind it than what I suggest.

I’ll get back on topic.

So, today I was pretty jacked up on caffeine.

A few days ago, a friend of mine may have strongly implied that they fancy me. I don’t know if they did or didn’t. It might’ve been direct. I’ve no idea.

I pursued this person for a little while, but eventually… I don’t know. The feelings kind of moved on. Still think the person is cool and do enjoy talking to them, but now I don’t know what I feel towards them.

Then there’s some at university that I think I fancy, but I do not know if they do or don’t.

I think that, in all honesty, the best thing to do is to leave it all be and just not do anything, or at least get confirmation some way so I can confirm where I stand, but I’d rather not, as that creates less drama of sorts, although it’s only really drama in my head.

Realistically, it’s not an issue at all. I know stuff like this happens all the time and either something will change or something will not and I’ll still have two friends that I can call my friends… obviously.

Well, that’s all I had to say about it.

I was hoping I’d be able to write something about how I feel sad (or depressed) after hanging with people sometimes, but I think I’ll save that for another time.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:46:68
Somewhat surprised I was able to write about life in under ten minutes.
This post is pretty crap. Thought about writing about it too much and… well… yeah.
Still, it is (kind of) about the worst problem in the world, by far, bar none.

Jokes aside, yeah. A sub-par post about things that are, ultimately, non-issue.

Written in bed.

Fountain Grass

Here’s another photo I took whilst on a recent walk.

I was in Lilyfield at the time, wandering about, look at things, as one does.

Eventually I was lucky enough to come across this view with this grass.

Well, to be honest, I saw the view, then I saw the grass, then I tried to combine the two.

I think that this is a relaxing image, with colours not being intense and a lot of growth combined around the abandoned train tracks in the background.

It seems so peaceful to me.

If I’m wrong about the name of the grass, please let me know.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

A Tree Looking at Vines

Here is a picture of a tree that I took a few weeks ago.

I thought  that, from the angle I took the picture, it looked as though the tree was looking at the vines growing on it.

I don’t think it quite turned out that way, but I still like the picture as the tree still seems like it has a head.

The reason as to why this tree has a bit of red on it is that I was using a custom setting at the time that I unintentionally created when I received my camera back from the repair shop.

The setting likes red a fair bit.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 93: Mosquitoes

Of all the things that will get me writing faster than anything else I can think of, getting eaten alive by mosquitoes is probably, the greatest, most powerful motivator.

You see, I do not like getting my blood drained by those insects that fly around, making buzzing sounds that become difficult to hear the older you get, making them harder to notice and therefore more likely to strike without someone noticing their presence, therefore increasing their efficiency at successfully taking blood without being injured to death.

There are many minor inconveniences and in Australia, they usually are one of them, but they are also a very large minor inconvenience that causes no ends of scratching and torment upon my poor, shattered soul that merely cries at night, bemoaning its fate to be stuck in a body so susceptible to mosquitoes, having blood taken to fill themselves in order to allow them to keep doing the things mosquitoes do, other than buzz around and consume stuff.

It would probably benefit me greatly if I wasn’t currently sitting next to the back door, but alas, it is better that I do not study in bed, for if I do, I will not actually get much study done and end up doing something else that will consume many hours, thus decreasing my ability to learn and retain enough information to ensure that I successfully pass the course I’m doing over the summer semester, therefore leading to me spending more time working on completing my bachelor of science.

I must sacrifice some of myself in order to assist in passing this course, but I do wish that the mosquitoes would give me a bit of a break sometimes as it can get rather annoying.

Maybe their plan was to lead me to this point in my life so that they could have free reign for a while, proving that they play the long game better than anyone and anything else in the world.

Although, that would be far too sinister, even for them.

To be honest, I find that getting “bitten” by mosquitoes to be not much more than an inconvenience and not something to spend time getting worked up about.

I think that has a lot to do with living in Sydney, as malaria and Ross River fever aren’t (as far as I’m aware) known to be something that occurs here (or most of Australia for that matter [I think]).

It does get annoying at times, but if it happens, it happens and I’m not going to do much about it aside from a brief scratch as there’s other things I could spend my time doing, such as writing about mosquitoes and study and write about mosquitoes instead of studying, slowly avoiding the dreaded inevitable that may lead to a path of mystery and intrigue if only I’d sit down and get to it instead of procrastinate the day far beyond anything resembling away.

Well, time for much study!

Not before scratching though.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:41:62
Surprisingly fast as I thought I’d do much worse than this.

Okay, I’m done procrastinating… for now…

Written at my desk at home.

The Revenant Review

The Revenant is a great film that I am glad to watch.

It starts off with some hunting and then an attack that some of the characters, including Leonardo DiCaprio and his son in the film, escape.

Eventually Leonardo DiCaprio is left for dead, but manages to survive.

Crawling his way to survival and eventually walking again, he ends up teaming up with a bear that, despite having differences in personality, find common ground and relation, and work towards taking down a Colombian drug cartel, lead by the man who decided to abandon him in his darkest hour.

The film is amazing.
The script is strong; the film is shot well.
The pacing is on point and the minimalist use of music allows people to reach their own conclusions about what to feel instead of being outright told what to feel.

The scene that features the tiger peeling skulls for flowers to bloom from the cranium whilst the bear and DiCaprio play chess whilst discussing the ultimate fate of the universe whilst holding off bad guys in a stealthy and unexpected manner is a highlight.

It is an esoteric sui generes buddy cop film and I’m glad I saw it.

——

So I saw The Revenant recently and whilst I enjoyed it (especially the dialogue being mostly kept to a minimum), I kind of wish that it was more like the above.

It was made well, but I felt that it suffered from the opposite of a problem I felt Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens had: It felt as though it could have been shorter.

Still, I do think it is worth seeing as, whilst there are some moments that aren’t as strong as they could be (I can understand the use of CGI, but sometimes its use is too obvious and sometimes it does seem like you’re being told what to feel), it is a decent film.

There are some really great shots that are beautiful, whether they be more of the environment or of the characters.

Also, given the nature of the film, the acting is more physically driven than it is dialogue driven.
Given the nature of the film, it paid off.

I recommend seeing it.

A Family of Cockatoos

Here’s a shot that I took whilst Ewe and I were in the Blue Mountains on the weekend.
We’d gotten up early to get pictures of Mount Solitary at sunrise.

Whilst we were at the location we wanted to be to take photos, these sulfur-crested cockatoos flew past us, so I took a photo of them.

A very lucky shot for me.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 92: ZOOM!

ZOOM!

I don’t know why I started this post with that.

I felt it was a good idea, but there was no rhyme, nor reason beyond that.

It’s probably a bad way of starting this off as it has no real context, there’s nothing apparent as to why it should be used as an appropriate way to start this post off, there’s nothing to justify its inclusion in this post and it starts with the letter”z”.

I think I should probably start again, but the problem is that now that I’ve used it, I can’t really change that.

It’s now in the past and the past is forever.

I could try and find a way to travel back in time to change it so that I can undo the pointlessness of using the word “zoom”, all in capital letters, to start this post off, but that would mean something that happened after it could also end up being changed irrevocably and forever, lest I travel to a point to change that at the same time, but of course that could lead to something else being changed, therefore creating some sort of loop where I’d be traveling to various moments in time that are very close to each other just to prevent changes that would be caused by my changing the start of this post from the word “zoom” to something else like… I don’t know… “craunch hat”.

Of course, that then raises another problem.
The other problem being that there would now be two words that start the post off, increasing the load and also being words with what could very likely be far less context than using “zoom”, creating additional issues, as I would then have to travel further back in time to try and fix that as things would get worse if I didn’t.

I would have to find a way to prevent additional changes and then change “craunch hat” to something like “Adonis cheese melt”.

You know, the more I think about this, the worse it seems to get and all that’s happening is that more problems will be cropping up.

Maybe it would be better to just not have a starting word for this post, but then the problem that would occur is that there would be no indication of what is being read, as no one would have anything to start off with.

I’ve been told that I could use the editing options to change the word and whilst this would have the effect of not adversely affecting the past, the problem is that doing so would be too complex.

I think that, at this stage, I should probably just avoid doing anything and leaving the word as it is as it’s a much safer option for now, preventing small, but catastrophic changes that could end up leading to a path that one would never want to go down, if said path became an option that would be followed.

To be honest, I don’t know.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:37:60

I think that, as I’m feeling quite tired, that’s a pretty good time.

Interesting story behind this one: There’s not actually an interesting story behind it.

Hurr hurr hurr.

Tree sap

The great thing about tree sap is that it can look quite “Vibrant” when exposed to sunlight.

This was taken this morning, whilst walking near Leura.

I think that it represents the theme used for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge this week quite well, due to the sunlight hitting this bit of sap, making it appear quite bright and strong in colour.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 91: A Laughing Bus Driver

Back in December, on one of the days Ewe and I went to Bondi Beach for a swim in the morning, we had a rather interesting bus trip back home.

We hopped on the bus and found we did not have enough money to actually catch it, but the bus driver let us on anyway and laughed when he did.

I figured he was a jovial fellow, not knowing the chaos and destruction… anyway…

So, during the trip back to where we’d be getting off, every now and then he would say something and then laugh. It was a hearty “ha ha ha”.

Ewe and I weren’t exactly sure as to what was going on, but it became a bit intense when we hit traffic really early into the journey, which lead to the driver saying something else about the traffic and then laughing again.

During this, occasionally when the bus had to stop to let people off, the doors would stop working momentarily, which lead to the driver saying something about the doors and laughing.

At one point, whilst in the traffic and whilst there were a lot of people on the bus, he mentioned how there were lights that were read on the dashboard in front of him, “Ha ha ha. Too many people, ha ha ha”.

It took a while to reach Bondi Junction. When we did, the doors on the bus stopped working.

He said something along the lines of “The doors aren’t closing, ha ha ha. Oh no, ha ha ha”.

Everyone is on the bus and wondering as to what is going on.
After a few minutes, people started getting off the bus to catch a train into the city as it looked like it was going to be quicker (I’m pretty sure the driver suggested this). Ewe and I hopped off and waited, and soon enough, the bus started working again.

A little bit further into the journey, the doors stopped working again and wouldn’t close.

There was more things being said and laughing.

The only thing I think I caught was “You’ll have to hop on the next bus, ha ha ha”.

So, Ewe, the other passengers and I hopped off and hopped straight onto the next bus that came, which Ewe and I were somewhat thankful for as, whilst the bus driver seemed like a cool guy, the talking and laughing was becoming a little too intense for us.

Sadly the second bus did not take us all the way home and we had to change once we reached the city.

Now, the reason why I mention this is that Ewe and I were up in Katoomba earlier today.

We went up last night and when we came back, we had to catch a bus to Blacktown and then a train from there.

The laughing bus driver came to mind and, due to the length of the bus trip, we were glad he wasn’t driving it.

It would’ve been too much.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 11:28:31

Far, far too slow.
We had to deal with track work today.
It’s not the worst thing, but it certainly does slow things down.

Anyway, I decided that I’d write about the laughing bus driver today whilst on the bus we had to catch, as we talked about him a lot and invoking his style of talking and laughing was slowly driving us insane.

However, I couldn’t help myself.

Written from bed.
