Five-Hundred Word Challenge 86: A Sentence

It is currently evening and I’m sitting here in my underpants, writing the thing that will inevitably be read by at least one person out there in the wide world that is the world that we live on and they will not know that I was in my underpants, somehow sweating furiously from my armpits, although that may have had to do with the fact that I am currently typing away at a very fast and furious pace, ignoring all the spelling mistakes that I am making as I’ll no doubt be able to edit them to make this look a little less crappy and messy so then it will appear to be more readable for whomever reads it and at the same time wonders who the mysterious, amazing, graceful, smooth, handsome, wonderful stranger was that wrote this was, not knowing that it was some guy sitting in his underpants furiously destroying his keyboard with his fingers as a pace that should not be repeated often as it doesn’t allow for quiet, subtle key pressing, instead coming out as loud, angry VIOLENCE that a poor keyboard should never have to experience as it probably is doing some sort of damage to my keyboard and I really should take it easy but I feel I’m on a role here and whilst I haven’t posted anything for the past couple of days, I felt as though I should have as I think that there are a few people out there who enjoy reading whatever it is that I send out into world, although I don’t quite know what it is, despite knowing exactly what it is (rubbish, sometimes) and still putting out for people to read as I like to pretend that it’s part of my mystery and enigma that makes me so damn attractive and charismatic that it reverses on itself to the point where I’m only mildly damn attractive and charismatic (in the same way that a truck colliding with a cactus is charismatic), therefore leading my avoiding the zeitgeist as much as I can as it will mean interacting with people that I don’t want to interact with for reason that I can’t explain as there really are no reasons that I can think of right now beyond “I don’t want to interact with them and prefer the people I already interact with, not knowing if they are part of the zeitgeist or not (I think)”, yet finding myself inexplicably drawn to the whole nature of it so much that I go on lengthy rambles that don’t seem to be going anywhere or revealing anything new that would possibly be interesting beyond a casual read, although, now that I think about it, there’s nothing wrong with that and it can in fact be useful if applied to the right situation (not one that I can think of right now but you can’t really win them all now, can you?), but then again, that would require a lot more thought.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:07:31
This did not turn out how I expected it to at all.

I did decide near the start of writing this that I would try to make it one continuous sentence, but still… this was not expected.

I decided to put it under fiction due to the “charismatic” bit.

A Different View of Anzac Bridge

Here is a different view of Anzac Bridge.

I don’t think that pictures of it at this angle are common.

This was taken recently during time spent walking.

Anzac Bridge is fairly close to where I live and easy enough to cross.

This is my choice for the purpose of representing my interpretation of “Alphabet“, the theme this week for The Daily Post‘s photo challenge.

The arches look a little bit like Λ from this angle. They also look a bit like and A.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 85: I think I’ve Bitten off More Than I can Chew

“I think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew”, Hass thought to himself.

Hass was quite hungry on that particular day. He hadn’t had breakfast or lunch and it had reached a late period in the afternoon.

The sun was no longer beating down directly on him, but it had not said its goodbyes and gone beyond the horizon.

He needed to eat something but there was no food in the kitchen and, at that particular point in time, heading off to the supermarket seemed like it was going to take far longer than it usually would.

Hass was seeking a quick fix to this problem and didn’t want to have to work hard to get it.

He decided that, in the interest of removing his hunger as quickly as possible and making sure that he stayed full for a while, he’d head up the road to buy a meal.

No, not just one, but two, or maybe even five!

He knew he had to act quick as if he waited any longer, he’d start feeling pain in his stomach as it was beginning to rebel against the body that decided it would be a good idea to not get food for the explicit purpose of remaining satiated.

Hass had plenty of time to do the shopping on the way home in the evening, as the supermarket wasn’t what one could consider a significant detour, yet he chose not to as he could “always go later”.

Deciding that the best course of action would to first be to get out of the backyard, then put on some pants and a shirt before heading to get a fast meal, and that is what he did.

He did it faster than he usually would; not quite a surprise, but not expected either.

Soon he was walking at an accelerated pace to the local burger place. He knew that the food was quite filling and whilst the price did leave something to be desired, the flavours would blend well and the meal would be big.

As soon as Haas stepped into the burger place, he noticed the temperature inside was a few degrees cooler and therefore more refreshing as outside all that could be felt was a dry, suppressing heat that should be avoided at all costs.

He also found himself undecided on what to order.

After a few minutes, he decided to give up and picked three burgers at random.

The staff that served Hass looked upon him with curiosity whilst processing his order.

Hass sat down and waited for his food to reach him.

The hunger was almost unbearable. It was reaching the point where he was considering eating the table.

It didn’t take long before he had his three big burgers in front of him.

He quickly grabbed the one closest to him without admiring it’s shimmering beauty and took a bite bigger than he ever had before.

There was too much food in his mouth. He couldn’t chew.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:03:94

A bit slower than the last two but still pretty close to being under ten minutes.
Huzzah?

Right now I should probably be studying, but I have a strong desire to eat as I haven’t had breakfast yet.

That probably influenced this story about the tough journey in search of food.

Maybe I’ll follow it up with a sequel.

A Can on a Fence

Here is a picture of a can on a fence.

I saw it whilst on a walk, so I took a picture.

The very same picture you are viewing now.

I like it.

No particular reason. Just do.

This was on the fence outside of the Sydney Fish Market.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 84: I was Going to try and do Two Five-Hundred Word Challenges, and a List of Plugs

I decided that tonight I was going to try and do two five-hundred word challenges because I wanted to.

Originally, I was going to write about how I was going to go to Brighton-Le-Sands in the morning for a swim before I headed off to work, but then decided not to as, based on the first sentence alone, I thought I was going to repeat the information of each sentence within the same sentence.

Then I decided that I was going to write about how, despite it being a small problem in the grand scheme of things (and even a small problem among the problems that I have and think I have), I wasn’t entirely happy with how my writing was going recently as I want to be able to write more serious pieces, and more surreal and abstract pieces, but am only able to write in an absurd style. Then I realised that I’m not really unhappy with this and just need to work on balancing what I write about as well as put more reviews up as there are a few things that I want to review but have not gotten around to doing.

I realised that I didn’t actually feel like writing about anything else tonight and it would probably be better if I spent the evening relaxing so I’m fully charged for tomorrow and any future days that come my way, allowing me to battle them without difficulty.

I should probably also spend more time working on music and MS Paint Masterpieces as I haven’t done that since Christmas.

Yes, that was a plug for MS Paint Masterpieces.

No, I do not feel shame for advertising it as I think the page is worth checking out as a lot of it is equal parts fun and stupid.

Okay, I’ll stop now.

I realised that, after churning out one five-hundred word challenge (that was lacking in sensibility), and spending a good part of the day at university, I was feeling devoid of ideas. I needed a break instead of spending more time bashing away on a keyboard, vomiting words out of my fingers in order to construct sentences. I also wasn’t feeling like diving into my mind and trying to do more stream-of-conscious writing, although I probably should do more of that, but not right now as I’m not quite in the mood for writing sentences that only seem connected in some manner if you’re willing to grasp at straws to try and make connections.

I think I’ll spend the rest of the night taking it easy, because I don’t really feel like writing any more than I already have and should probably look at going to bed early to make sure that I get a good amount of sleep instead of staying up late for no reason whatsoever. Maybe I’ll read some more of Finnegans Wake.

So, instead of doing what I originally decided to do, there will not be two five-hundred word challenges from me.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:39:71

I’m deeply saddened by how much slower this was than the last one.
It was insanely slow. It shouldn’t have taken anywhere near as long as it took to write this.

Anyway…

Recently I decided to do a long list of plugs for some people who I think are worth checking out, but I didn’t want to make it a separate post, so I’ll put it here.

Le Dot, run by Nathalie, is focused on photography.
by marion by Marion is one I’ve plugged before, so I’m going to again. Photos, illustrations, and many other things.
Afthead , run by afthead, is full of knitting and writing and the occasional photo.
Stephellaneous, run by Stephanie, is intense, serious and humorous writing.
Brainspace from Laoghaire is another that is focused on photography, as far as I’m aware.
Spanishwoods, run by Spanishwoods, is photography and poetry.
leaf and twig is run by seedbud. It is also full of photography and poetry.
Storytime with John is run by John. He writes stories, among other things.
Amanda Lyle puts her stuff up on Inside the Life of Moi. Writes about life. A mix of serious and fun.
Josh Wrenn also does serious and fun via My Friday Blog.
Photo Ni Ompong is where Ompong shares his photography and occasional sketch.
Cee’s Photography is full of photography from Cee Nuener.
Joshi Daniel Photography is run by Joshi Daniel. It shows photography from Joshi Daniel.
lemanshots allows one to see the photography of lemanshots.
crowcanyonjournal shares his photography on Crow Canyon Journal.
kendonoob is about kendonoob’s journey in kendo. Still s young blog but it shows promise.
TheReporterandTheGirl is run by TheGirl. It’s predominantly writing from TheGirl

These are all people who I think are worth the time checking out as I think their content is good.
I know I’ve missed quite a few that I like (Leanne Cole being one of them, but as I link to her blog weekly, I thought that it would be okay to omit her in this case), so I’ll add them the next time I do this.

And check MS Paint Masterpieces, run by some mysterious person who is as enigmatic as he is unknown.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 83: The Opposite of Day

So I was going to write about how I did well in an assignment and am seriously considering arguing for lower marks as I don’t think it was worth the mark it was given and how my worrying about the fact that I didn’t get a call about the job was silly (well, it was silly to worry about in the first place as if I didn’t get it, I would just spend more time looking for a job instead of less time looking for a job), as I got the job (whilst it’s early days, it seems like a good environment, but I ‘ll dedicate a full post to it some other time), but as I’m not in the kind of mood that I’d need to be to write about those kind of things (as I’ve had way too much sugar [in the form of ice cream, of course]), instead I’m going to write about something that is totally, utterly insane.

In fact, it will be so insane that you will become insane from being within its proximity.

It’ll emit insanity so hard that it’ll spread so fast that no amount of home runs in a staring contest will save you from the plight of the birds when the birds have become far too aware of their plight, forcing them to become the guardians of the piece (yes, the piece) in order to protect the world from eating itself again, just like the time it ate itself and everyone lost balance for all of two seconds, thus causing the delay in the path around the sun, creating the opposite of day; the eternal darkness of temporary reprieve from searing light; the awakening of the moon on an unlit background; the  embracing of a shadow stretched out far beyond its usual capacity although it is still within its capacity; the time when the stars come out to dance by remaining completely still in the way they appear to us, other than “twinkling”, whatever the hell that actually means; the bringer of relief from a hotter day than one should actually expect, the point when most people will go to sleep for periods longer than one hour but shorter than thirty-nine; the period of time where visibility is reduced for the type of that people have unless they are assisted with a light source that is not necessarily a natural light source; the period of time where I realise I’ve probably had far too much sugar and really should work on getting on with whatever the hell I was going to write about but I’ve forgotten; the time where I feel I should be reading Finnegans Wake but instead do not read Finnegans Wake; the bringer of a cooler temperature unless for some reason the temperature is not willing to budge; the enabler of dramatic poetry and lonely walks with few people around unless it’s a walk through a park with lamps; the time that is affectionately known as “not daytime”!

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 9:39:02

I… sugar… yeah.

I think I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again: I like Finnegans Wake.

I am actually considering arguing for lower marks, but probably won’t.
Also, I do have a job again. Hooray!

The Floating Torii

Here are some pictures of the famous torii that can be found at 厳島神社 (Itsukushima Shrine), which is on 厳島 (Itsukushima).

From what I’ve read, the shrine has been destroyed a few times and the current torii hasn’t been around for too long.
With that being said, the torii feels quite nice to see, especially at high tide (which is the optimal time to see it) as its angular structure looks like it’s floating, with the reflection adding to its beauty.

I’m not too sure as to what I could possibly say about the torii other than what has been said before.
Whilst I have some respect for it and appreciate its appearance and spiritual importance, I didn’t and still don’t care much for it.
I thought there were greater things to see in Japan.

However, it was worth seeing and I think that, if you’re planning on going to Japan, you should go check it out.

I would recommend at high tide early in the morning if you can, as there will be significantly less people around.

I don’t think all of these photos are good (although, there was one that didn’t make it as it made the torii look like a toy to me), but they were chosen as I felt it was important to show the torii at different angles.
I don’t know how much it contributes to information about it, but I don’t see a point in viewing it from only a couple of angles, so that’s what I wanted to add (if it hasn’t been done before).

The third photo is what I’ve chosen as my thirty-eighth photo for Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness“.

I hope you enjoy.

Boss is the Boss of Them All

During time in Japan, I came across a few vending machines that had Tommy Lee Jones advertising a canned coffee.

I thought the advertising was equal parts odd and funny.

After the first few days seeing this advertising, I decided to buy my first.
The coffee advertised was Boss coffee.

I liked the taste and decided to set out to try as many of the different flavours as I possibly could without going overboard in my consumption of it.

Some were better than others, as is the way of things.
I did go back to some

Overall, I enjoyed drinking them, but will probably not do so again due to how much sugar may be in them.

I decided to take a picture of every Boss coffee I drank (I might have missed a few and not all of the ones I took a picture of are shared here) for reasons that currently elude me.

I think it might’ve had to do with a desire to track as much as I could whilst there.
I’m almost 100% certain it had to do with my thinking it would be ridiculous and fun to show people a bunch of pictures of coffee cans.

However, I do know that I took the last one to be as absurd and ridiculous as I thought I could make it, with the can being held aloft, looking majestic and mighty.

After all, any less would be a disservice, as Boss is the boss of them all.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 82: Today is one of Those days

Today is one of those days.
It’s one of those days that has a transition between daytime and nighttime and vice-versa.
It may not necessarily be in that order though.

It is a day where things must be done and I will inevitably have to get up and go purchase something for the purposes of consumption so that I am able to produce more energy to be able to purchase something else that will also be used for the purposes of consumption, forever continuing on in this eternal pattern, for consumption must be done in order for energy to be produced.

It’s a vicious cycle.

It’s also Monday.

I’ve spent a good chunk of this morning learning about energy production within cells.. I think. I’m fairly certain a lot of what I’ve been learning this morning has to do with photosynthesis, but I could be wrong.

It’s been productive.

Sleep has certainly helped.

Soon I shall raise from my throne and begin a journey of lengthy time to a place known as a “super market”, to purchase edibles so that I can feed myself for another week whilst I study more.

Until that point comes, I must continue my studies and remain rigorous in my gregarious solitude… my dedication to the arts of learning without freaking out too much about how much information must be absorbed in order to get ahead in my studies to become a better student and get better marks whilst hopefully furthering me along the path of academia, eventually pushing me into the science of marine so that I can spend my life looking at things that live underwater (and possibly above water), whilst on the odd occasion, heading out to do field science and take photos of creatures of the ocean.

It’s a noble, lofty goal and I plan on achieving it.

It’s going to take a lot of tea and screaming to get there, but by Jove, I’ll get there!

Well, eventually.

I have actually been studying for most of this morning, mostly due to having a good sleep last night. Soon I’ll be done and be able to squander my afternoon on other things, then spend the evening studying some more.

Maybe I’ll head out and go for a night walk around the water, taking photos of things and things that are not things.

So many decisions.

I feel somewhat relaxed right now, which is a good thing.

I spent a small portion of yesterday beating myself up for not understanding what I was trying to learn, but I was also feeling quite tired and not in a mood to gain knowledge that may or may not serve me well down the track, depending on where life takes me.

I was also much more tired than I am today.

You know, I thought that today I’d be able to write something that was much more interesting than what I’ve conjured up today.

Maybe I’m too relaxed or something.

Maybe I should study more.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:17:78
Could have been faster.

I was really hoping I’d be able to come up with something far more interesting, fun and adventurous than this, but alas, it was not to be.

Kickflips

Here are some photos that were taken shortly after I obtained my camera.

I was with a friend and we were visiting Melbourne.
When we saw these skaters, we were somewhere around St. Kilda.

I decided to take pictures of them.

Today my words are as wooden as my dining table.

This week sees The Daily Post issuing the theme of “Weight(less)” for its photo challenge.

I was originally going to use a picture of a plane, but changed my mind when I rediscovered these shots.

They may have been more appropriate if the theme was “motion”, but still, I think they work.

The skaters look like they’re hovering and the way their bodies are angled looks fantastically bizarre.

It seems almost as though the skateboards and the skaters are dancing with each other.

I should quickly note that I’m not sure if they were practising kickflips, but it looks like they were.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
