Five-Hundred Word Challenge 854: A Rant on Today

I’m trying to think of something to say at the moment. Something articulate and caring and perhaps poignant. Doing this under a time constraint is perhaps not helpful to trying to say something that express what I want to express, but that’s  the way I’m working at the moment.

There are issues with what is going on at the moment and I think it is important that people try to stand back and start trying to think about what it is that they’re doing and saying rather than keep on going.

If you are truly interested in supporting the democratic process, then rather than trying to break into a government building, you would support the democratic process. I don’t think a a good chunk of people who are essentially committing some form of terrorism are interested in upholding the democratic process so much as they are interested in not accepting that their desired candidate lost an election.

A while ago I touched on this, not knowing as much of the picture as I do now. Whilst I stand by some of what I said, I don’t stand by parts of it and, had I made myself more aware of the underlying reasons behind those protests, I imagine I would have been much more thoughtful and understanding with what I wrote.

I think that protest is important and the will of the people is something that needs to be recognised more often. That said, I don’t think what is happening at the moment is something that should be supported.

Essentially what I’m saying is that what I said in the past was from a position of ignorance and I should have thought more about what was going on before I commented. That’s not to say I’m any less ignorant now; There’s a lot to unpack and know regarding what was happening then.

I feel the protesting then was much more warranted. Whilst I don’t feel the same about the current “protesting” against the election results, I do support the right to protest. I think that, given the circumstances and the lead up to what is currently happening, this particular event should not be supported. This is one that should be condemned and disparaged.

People need to think about their actions and what they’re putting out into the world. I don’t think enough of this is done, though perhaps it is and some people just don’t care about what their actions lead to. If that is the case, then that feels very much like a great shame.

I do hope that people come out of what is going on okay and I do hope that The United States of America moves toward a path of prosperity and progress that has the environment and the populace treated better, and I don’t mean just some people and small portions of the environment; I mean the whole thing.

There is a lot of responsibility that comes with power, and some wield it with great irresponsibility.

I probably should have spent more time on this.

A Patch of Light in an Overcast Sky

I took this photo whilst a storm was rolling in.

I don’t have much to say about it other than my liking of the contrast of shades.

This is my submission into Leanne Cole‘s “Monochrome Madness” for this week.
I suggest checking out Leanne’s photography, as well as checking out what other people submit.

A lot of what people are submitting will likely end up here.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 853: Punch the Day Away

Time to punch the day away, but I’m not sure what that means. Just will have to roll with it and see here this sea of oceans decides to wave on by and carry us to, as there are many shores of leaving and many shores of embarking upon adventures that go nowhere other than further and further into themselves, which is a thing that might just happen at the present moment as there is no out other than inward and inward is the new outward as they say.

Whoever they are say that a lot and I don’t know why as, to be honest, it seems like something that doesn’t make for much sense and sense is not what it is that I’m looking to make at the moment, though maybe it is, so therefore I should try and say things that make sense so that the thread of sense is made and therefore there is some semblance of sense-making that makes sense rather than a load of nonsense that doesn’t make sense as that is not something that I want to make until I do, in which case I will then do it then rather than now. There are other things of which I will explore but that exploration has to wait for me to reach it and so I do this now and that later.

At the moment it is cold and that is nice, but I should rug up and then get warm and then do some other things that involve motion of the physical variety so that I move through space and the atoms and then reach a point where I am no longer at the original point and therefore have moved through space and time and dimensions and therefore there are other things of which I will then experience so that when they are experienced I will have experienced them and then have grown as a person in my journey to grow as a person, which is something that I’d much like to do. Growing is great; shrinking, not so much,.

So, yeah. That is the thing that I wanted to outline even though I’m not sure as to why it was that I outlined. Feels more like I did a big circle of sorts and then began consuming myself in order to reveal the hidden depths of the truth that I do not know so that I know more of it, but of course that all is not at all what happened and so I will keep on doing the thing that I am currently doing in order to make sure that whatever this is, it is what it is not when it is not what it is, which is what it is, so therefore I have done a thing and shall continue on my merry way to wherever it is that I need to go next in order to cross to the other side of a location and then keep on going forward.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:08:15

Don’t know why I waited until shortly before heading to bed to share this.

It’s kind of… It’s something.

Small Hop

On New Year’s Day I went for a walk and took photos of birds such as this ibis.

I was following the ibis in the hopes that I’d photograph it as it took off. Instead I got this shot which I quite like.

It’s sort of a small action shot, but I think it shows form quite well, as well as expression of intent.

I hope you enjoy.

One Thousand Word Challenge 103: Act of Waking Up

It all started with the act of waking up. There was some stretching, then there was some becoming aware of one’s surroundings. Once aware., there was plenty of lying in bed, doing very little and doing one’s best to move as little as possible. It was a good start to the morning; or at least, it would have been had it not been too early a waking up.

The sun was yet to rise, though it was getting there. Attempts to get back to sleep were made, but of course they were futile as it was all too easy to become aware and alert and out of a sleepy phase, and so there was the lying in bed for a while, being alert and aware, though hoping that would all fade away and some more rest would be gained. Of course, it was not to be and there were other things afoot, such as the being awake and the encroaching knowing of having to be awake all day whilst feeling overly fatigued. Such was the way of things and such was the way that it was going to be all day.

Eventually there was the decision to get up, for there was little else to do at that present time. Perhaps read a book. Not entirely sure; getting up was the first priority. If one could get up, then one could do things. Getting up was, of course, the easy part, not that any of it was difficult, but being tired certainly made things feel more so.

There seemed little to do after rising and so, in the rising of the waking sun the kitchen seemed like a good destination to go toward. Caffeine was available there and perhaps that would help with shaking off the fatigue that so encrusted their being and their very soul.

Unfortunately coffee was not instant and whilst that was often an appreciated thing, in this instance the desire was to feel awake sooner rather than later and so having to wait for the water to boil, the french press to be filled and for the coffee to be ready seemed to stretch for some sort of unmitigated eternity.

Of course the wait was not that long, but these things have a habit of making themselves feel so and when you’re feeling impatient, of course things that take a little bit of time will seem to take far more than they actually do.

And so the wait began and it was over in a much shorter period than expected (as is the way of these things). Poured into a cup, it was still too hot to drink, but perhaps in a few more minutes it would be ready to go.

They carried the coffee back to the bedroom and placed it on their work desk, which was a desk where typically they would work. They then moved a large pile of clothes from their chair and onto their bed, then sat on their chair. They turned on their computer and hoped that somehow they’d find the right piece of music for the morning. Something to signify the waking up of the earth and the dawning of a new day.

Of course there was nothing quite there; not anything that could be played aloud at least. Instead some sort of lukewarm ambience was picked and, after enough minutes passing, settled itself as the mood setter for the morning.

The coffee seemed cool enough and so it was consumed through failed attempts at pacing out the drinking. Small, frequent sips took over and the coffee, despite its heat, lasted less time than it took to make.

Hoping to get some form of writing done, they opened up a blank document and started placing down words in the hopes that some sort of pattern revealed itself. Many minutes of sitting there, passing the time and hoping for the best passed. Then it was many minutes of hoping for something. Words came out and sentences formed, but there was no seeming meaning or intent beyond the act of trying to find something that would work.

It seemed as though at the very least the morning was going to be unproductive. Sure, it was still before the sun had fully risen, but there was only a few minutes until that event had passed its peak and the ingested caffeine was not doing much to help. Sure, it was keeping them feeling a sense of being awake, but they wanted to feel fully awake, which was not something they were going to be able to gain from what they had.

Perhaps they were writing the day off too early – which they were – but that is what it was already feeling like. This was not something they could not surmount, and in fact had surmounted many a time. However, the desire to get that little bit more sleep was weighing a little too much on their mind and so they let it take over their thoughts and put them into a position of feeling ill-fated and dreading. Still, at least the coffee was nice.

There was no particularly awe-inspiring light show outside, but the sunrise remained pleasant nonetheless. Had they sat on their front patio instead of inside in their room, whilst not seeing all of it, they would have seen much more. Perhaps that would have been enough to help them feel a little more optimistic about the day ahead, which eventually they would. However, in sitting in a room without the greatest amount of light, they instead followed a different path through the day and so had a different colouring to everything. It led to the creation of different things and on the plus side those things were reached sooner rather than later. However, they still silently bemoaned their fate for those first few hours, letting their fatigue drag them a little more than they’d normally allow and thus shaping how they wrote, though of course it could’ve been worse.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 15:48:31

Partially based on my waking up earlier this morning than I’d hoped.

As always I want to spend more time working on fiction. At the moment I’m going to try and push that a bit more and see where it takes me.

Regarding this bit of writing, it’s rather plain, which was part of the intent, but I don’t think it produced the result I was looking for.

One Thousand Word Challenge 102: Too Much Rambling Right Now

Time keeps on ticking away and I sit here staring off into space trying to work out whether the stars make the ocean or the ocean makes the stars. This is of course a reference to space which often is referred to as an ocean, in which I guess it is. I can’t argue against it not being an ocean in a metaphorical sense as I am not a space biologist and so would have no real idea of whether it is or not in the metaphorical sense. Perhaps in the literal sense it is also an ocean, but that is not something that I am much interested in getting into. Need to get into other things at the moment and so I will not pay much attention to that idea.

Whatever it is that comes next, however, I hope that it does involve the exploration of something that leads to curious endeavours in the pursuit of learning and growing and the learning of growing in order to grow the learning through growing learning.

Anyway, I think that that is where the line is drawn. I know that is is drawn somewhere int here. Where exactly is a surprise and must be discovered. This is in no way an attempt to cover for my writing absolute rubbish, but in actuality the reality of whatever this thing is, so therefore you need to do the discovering and work it all out in the way that you need to do so in order to be able to find the answers that you seek, which in this instance is knowing precisely where the line is drawn so that you can know when you are crossing it, assuming you even do decide to cross it.

There is every chance that you don’t and therefore play by whatever the rules are, but perhaps you believe that the rules are meant to be broken rather than pushed outward or something, in which case you may merrily skip over the line and make it your not-master. I can’t think of the word required to replace that phrasing at the moment.

Perhaps you do not care and merely decide to walk away, in which case I must admit is a valid decision despite my not wanting it to be as if I allow it to be a valid decision, which I will, it means that I’ve allowed a third option that does not control for what I want controlled. You could just walk away from all of this and it would be fine. Who cares about some arbitrary and meaningless line that doesn’t make sense as the context is not understood?

You could also just walk through the whole thing and not care about it also and that would also be equally valid. Of course I also want to disallow this, but unfortunately I will not as there need to be options at the present moment, even if those are options of which I do not want to allow. What if I don’t allow them and then everything gains more bias than I had initially hoped? This would be more of an issue than I would like to admit on top of the things that I already don’t want to admit and so all of this is more and more becoming decisions made begrudgingly and that was something that I wanted to avoid, but seeing as I am unable to, I guess then that whatever this is should proceed as it is. Despite my lazy resistance, I should allow it to proceed as planned. However, perhaps I will now be the one who walks away.

You see, what I really want to do is stare off into space and let the day pass on by, but seeing as I am currently unable to do just that due to being bound by my own sense of not wanting to waste the day, I need to sit through these things and then get them out of the way, thus taking away my desire for one thing only to have it filled by the desire to do another thing and all it ends up doing is chaining together and I’m stuck on this rolling thing that I cannot get off of until I decide that I can get off off it, therefore forcing my hand into a position where I am doing the thing that I am doing at the present moment and therefore not making any sense as I don’t know where any of this is going, but perhaps there is a thread within all of its glorious crud that can be followed, and perhaps following that thread will lead to an exit and therefore I don’t need to keep on writing gibberish until I decide that it is time for me to keep on writing gibberish.

At the moment I can tell; you that I want to write something more constructive, but perhaps that is something that must wait for another day as at the moment I am rather tired due to the lack of sleep that I regularly obtain, so this is perhaps the best I can come up with at the moment. At the same time I feel as though I can do much better about this, but perhaps now is not the time. Perhaps in a few hours it will be a better time for me to write and do the “creation” thing and then get on with doing some other things so as to be able to fulfill the day ahead and make sure that I keep it filled with doing things that lead to some other things and so on and so forth.

But truthfully, despite being tired I also need to go to the bathroom and should probably take care of that before I continue so that I can have a little more focus on what I’m doing as the need to use the bathroom is more of a distraction than I’d like.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 10:36:81

I’m happy with the writing speed, but this is a real mess.
I can see a few places where this may have become something interesting to write but I kept on veering away for some reason.

Theatre

A photo of a sign indicating the right direction to go if you want to go to a particular theatre.

I don’t want to say how I got this shot and pretend that, whilst the sign itself is not written backward and there was no software processing used to render the lettering backward, there was some sort of mysterious and secret technique applied to capture the sign as it is. However, truthfully the way I captured the sign appearing as though the lettering is backward is far more straightforward than I’d like to imply.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-twenty-ninth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Favorite Images of 2020“.

My favourite image of 2020 is one I can’t share until the person I shot it for shares it, but this one was shot during the same event the photo I am not able to share yet was shot at and I also like this one a fair bit due to how devoid of external context it appears.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week’s challenge is curated by Tina. The next one will be guest curated by Anne Sadler of Slow Shutter Speed.

The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 852: Meandering Heap of Rubbish

Well, here comes the afternoon, or it would be that way if the afternoon was not already here. I’ve started a bit late but it’s all alright. Could be worse, I think. Could be better, of course, but it could be much, much worse.

Legs are sore from walking this morning but need to get on to that fitness train, or something. Need to be doing a bit more moving than I had last year. Don’t want to let go or something. Want to hold on. I don;’t know as to what it is that I’m on about right now, but I think you get the idea, or something.

So anyway, it’s humid and that’s fine. Could be worse. Don’t mind a little bit of humidity. Too Mich is not pleasant, but sometimes a little bit can be alright. Maybe later it will be too much, but right now it is not bothering me and so I can keep on writing in peace, or something. Can relax a little. Put my hair up and let it down and then do the other thing that makes this sentence complete.

Am doing stuff now but just want to relax. Take it easy and keep on reading my book and forget about things that I need to do in order to do the things that I don’t need to do, or something. There are things that require my attention and so the attention that they require are the things that I will give the things and…

So I went into this hoping for something a bit more grounded and less messy but instead of producing something of that type what I’ve written thus far is just a bit of a mess. I don’t want to do that right now. Right now I want t0o show some sort of focus and not this meandering heap of rubbish that doesn’t go anywhere except further and further down into the cracks of quality until the cracks end and it falls into the abyss of refuse. That is not what I want to do and so I’m doing my best to avoid such a situation as such a situation that is very much like the one that I am creating now.

Well, it already has gone out the window and I don’t know what to do from here. There is little to pick up and I am just a person floating in a sea of their own hubris and so I need to find a way to get out of this, but the sea is vast and no land is in sight. I know not what way to go or what wind to follow, but if I can build some sort of watercraft and then try and catch a breeze, then I am sure that with enough time I will eventually be led out of this and be able to start building again, but with a much sturdier foundation than the one on which this writing sits.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 05:26:28

Not sure as to what to make of this one.

It’s okay?

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 851: Conversation at The Brain Centre

So yesterday I woke up in the morning as opposed to the afternoon and I felt rather heavy. I felt heavy in the head and heavy in the brain. It wasn’t the worst of feelings, but it certainly was not something I would describe as pleasant, as is the way that these things go on the odd occasion.

The feeling did not get worse or better, and instead lingered on throughout all of the morning. It was bothersome in its refusal to relent and so I made a decision that I felt would help to lead to the resolving of the issue and therefore allow me to go about the rest of my day.

I headed on down to the brain centre to try and work out what was going on and if they could remove the discomfort. There wasn’t much of a wait which was a good thing, I feel. It meant that I could try and find a solution sooner rather than later and therefore this mild discomfort would be alleviated without me having to spend too much time living with it beyond what I had already lived with up to that particular point of the day.

So I waited and then they called me in and I had to walk to the specific professional’s room that I was seeing and I overshot as I wasn’t paying attention, then walked into the wrong room and there wasn’t anyone in that particular room so I stepped out and then walked to the room of the professional that I had to see. They greeted me and I greeted them and then they asked what exactly was wrong.

“You see, professional-type person, I’m having this feeling of heaviness in my brain.

You’re having heaviness in your brain?

I am having heaviness in my brain.

Have you considered lightening the load a little?

What do you mean?

Well, you might have a heaviness due to adding too much weight into your headspace and therefore increasing the weight upon your brain. This causes issues where there is a sensation of heaviness in the brain.

Sensations, you say?

I do say sensations. However, that is beside the point. The point is that there is a heaviness in your brain.

Can you be a little lighter and more informative of the issue?

The issue is that you’ve a heavy load in there.

But you haven’t done any examinations. How do you know that?

I just happen to know.

Well, you certainly layer it on. I think what I need to do is lighten the load.

Have you tried that?

Not yet, no.

Then perhaps you should.

I just might. Thank you for your assistance.

Not a problem. Just one last thing before you go. Please sign this waiver so we can legally claim your brain later.

No thanks. I’ll just leave.”

And so I left, feeling disgruntled over what I’d experienced. It could have been worse, but I felt no closer to having a solution.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:17:05

This came from the idea I had, then forgot, then remembered again yesterday.

Didn’t think it would kind of centre around a conversation, but that’s what ended up happening.

One Thousand Word Challenge 101: Searching for my Idea

So I had this idea for writing something whilst I was in the bathroom and then I think I waited too long as now I can’t quite remember what the idea is. I think I have a vague recollection of what it was that I was going to write about, but that’s about as far as this recollection goes and I feel as though this is a bit of an issue as the idea was a good one (I think), though good in the sense that it was going to be rather silly and I felt that that would make for some fun writing for this morning.

I guess that now that I want to try and recapture that idea, I need to go on some sort of journey in order to chase it down and find out as to where it has gone. If I do that, then perhaps I will finally see what it was and be able to remember it and therefore we will greet each other as though we were old friends, or something.

The issue that compounds upon this, however, is that I don’t know where to start looking in order to commence the journey of searching and that itself poses a problem. Oh sure, I could start where I am right now, but how do I know that that is the right place to start? What if that turns out to be the misleading way and therefore I end up getting farther and farther away from the idea of which I thought of whilst I was in the bathroom? What then?

I don’t want to have to go through some sort of massive process that leads me further and further away from whatever it was that I was trying to work out so I could write about it and therefore end up somewhere far and away and in some distant land of which I don’t recognise, thus causing me to have to find a way back and during that way back go on many dangerous, yet exciting adventures over a period serialised by some sort of weekly screening on some sort of screen of which will allow the adventures to be viewed, with some episodes being classified as filler in order to break up the main flow of the plot in order to allow for some sort of lightheartedness among all of the darkness and serious gravity of plot moving at the required speed of board executive decision requirements in order to fulfill some sort of demographic quota.

I need to make sure that I go in the correct direction the first time so I need to sit down and work out all of the things that I need to work out so that the first step is the most careful of steps. So long as things keep on going in the direction that I need them to go in – that being the direction that will lead me to the idea that I don’t quite remember – then I will be able to get there eventually and not have to worry about a series of adventures needing to happen in order to get back to the start of the series adventures that need to happen in order for me to be able to get back on track and get back to doing what it is that I desire which just so happens to be finding the idea I originally had so that I can finally write about it and therefore tuck it away for some sort of future use. That is the plan and that is the goal.

Ultimately there will be adventures either way, but I want to make sure that the adventures are ones that lead me in the right direction rather than a direction in which I do not want to be led.

Well, I guess they would all lead me in the right direction, but one would take longer than the other.

Now that I think about it, maybe it would be better to not worry about which way is the right way to start looking and just go with it and see what happens. There is a virtue in planning, but ultimately I’m not overly fussed at the present moment. Of course that may change sooner rather than later, but going the wrong way isn’t the worst of things that could happen. If I’m not overly fussed about digging up the idea, going the wrong way might just be the right way anyway as it could lead to discovering things that I would not have discovered otherwise. That is a thing that is worth considering. There are a lot of things here that are worth considering.

Still, this is all stuff that I don’t particularly want to think about at the moment and instead I just want to get on with my day and work out the things that I need to work out in order to lead myself back to the idea…. wait; no I don’t… or do I?

Alright, I think I’ve lost my train of thought and should therefore probably go back to the station so that I can wait for the next train and then hop on, sit down on one of the empty seats and let it take me to where I was which was working out how much I care about planning the first step of trying to work out what my idea was by looking for it, and whether the making sure the first step is the right step is necessarily going to be better than going the wrong way as both will provide adventures and ideas and perhaps remembering the original idea is not overly important.

However, there often is a long wait for the train and so maybe instead of waiting for it I’ll just follow the tracks for a while and soak in whatever views that affords me whilst thinking about the idea and hoping that it eventually reveals itself.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 12:31:20

This was fun to write.

I remembered the idea that I had early on and will probably use it for the next thing I write. Decided to just run with what I was writing instead of changing course.
