One Thousand Word Challenge 87: Attempting Decompression

It feels much like a warm night and now I can finally decompress. Maybe a sense of coolness will come over me and I will be able to relax sooner rather than later. Spent far too many hours today “active” and I need to deactivate and get to sleep soon. Sometimes that is the way things go, unfortunately, but that doesn’t mean that I’d rather things not. Oh well. What am I going to do other than keep on going on?

Perhaps writing some more after spending a lot of time writing is not the best way to unwind, but I guess it all depends on what comes forward and how it comes forward. Maybe this will be some sort of relaxing thing, free of any form or sense of tension and I will be able to go to sleep right after finishing this all off. That might just happen. That probably will not. What I imagine will come forward is what may seem clearly like some sort of intense, stress-related thing, though now that I think of that, that probably won’t happen either.

I don’t know what will come forward, but I do know that right now I am writing and I’m writing probably a bit faster than I should be, but that’s all okay in my books at the present moment as somehow I feel at ease with doing so. Might not be good for my health, but I will keep on going and see what comes out of all of this writing, though when I say that I am keenly aware that that’s generally what happens, and that is okay. It is okay to see what happens without quite knowing what will happen, even though what seems to happen is the thing that usually happens.

Well, anyway, I think that now that I have said that, I have run out of things to say, so inevitably what will happen from here is I will complain about things and somehow get to the end of all of this and then there will be something that can be read and someone will read it and there you go. I’ve managed to summarise the whole thing before even finishing it. I’ve managed to find some sort of clairvoyance about what I will write and that also is okay. It’s not the worst thing int he world. It’s fine to have a little bit of repetition in one’s life, but you can’t always go overboard, unless you need to, in which case you need to and then that is a thing that you need to deal with at a particular time, so you try to work through it and undo the thing that you need to undo and then you continue on and work to better yourself, or don’t.

Sometimes you just go for a walk outside of the house and see where it takes you. You’re not necessarily sure as to where it will take you. You know some of the path, but you might take a different turn to see something you haven’t seen before. It might be novel, or this might be something that you do all the time. Not a bad thing to do; need some familiarity in life, but not complete familiarity. Need a mix of things.

What will you see on this walk? Well, you might see some trees that you had not seen before you went on the walk. You might encounter some birds. Maybe you might even see other people. There are a whole slew of things that you may see that I cannot even get into describing as there are so many things that right now my brain is not allowing me to fathom them all. Maybe it would in the morning, but right now it isn’t and so you’re left with a whole load of mystery! isn’t that exciting?!

Well, maybe not right now as you’d maybe rather have a bit of a rest after a long day staring at screens. Walking can provide its own form of rest, but right now you just want to rest by closing your eyes for a bit and maybe going to sleep. It’s late at night and perhaps it is a little too late to go for a walk. You might see some birds, but they may also be far and few between. That’s okay; birds also need to rest when they need rest.

Well, you don’t mind going for a night walk, but seeing as you live near a body of water, there are mosquitoes about and you don’t have mosquito repellent, so you might be a little out of luck. Maybe you don’t mind being a mosquito buffet, but right now it’s close to rest time, so instead you are going to do what you do when you go to rest and then you’ll lie down and wake up in the morning and take care of other things then. Maybe then you will go for a walk as it will be more practical for you to do so, or something. If that is more practical for you, then awesome.

For me, however, there are no considerations for walking at the moment. Instead of walking I’m just going to go to bed shortly. Maybe there will be a little bit more writing after this, but maybe that too will come in the morning. There are plenty of options available to me and I don’t have to take them all now. I can take them later and later is fine. However, I know that if this wasn’t so close to my time to sleep, I’d probably take all those options now.

Oh well. I think that I’ve said all that I wanted to say and in far too many words to say it all, but I don’t feel any more relaxed. Time to switch off for the evening, methinks. I’ll take it easy and hope that I get to sleep sooner rather than later.

The time it took to write one thousand words: 10:42:50

I don’t know what to make of this. Probably not good.

Written at home.

Deftones: Ohms Review

Pretty sure that this is the longest music review I’ve written. Not sure if that’s a good thing. I’m sure there are parts I could’ve cut down by a significant amount.

I’ve spent most of the last six hours editing this and I need to decompress a bit now. I think that what I did well was really “get into” the album. Perhaps haven’t done enough to describe its sound, however.

Most of my interview and review work now appears on Culture Eater.
My colleague and I set up a Patreon to further develop Culture Eater as a source of good quality arts coverage from both ourselves and our contributors.

We’re looking at what we can give to supporters as we don’t want to set up a one way relationship, so suggestions are welcome. Podcast Eater is one of the things we’ve got going.

Please consider supporting, or at least sharing the Patreon page with others. Please also check out what our wonderful contributors are contributing.

I hope you enjoy.

“Genesis” begins Ohms with a buzzing and slightly wobbling synth. Echoing guitar notes come to meet it. It’s ominous, but it does not last. A short count and Deftones come in at full force and just belt it out. The synth keeps going in the background, helping to keep the song sounding brooding. The vocals alternate between a sort of drifting and sharp scream. When it comes to the chorus there’s a sense of rising up, if only for a moment and the song maintains its weighty, crushed sound.

So what is Ohms full of? Guitar playing that helps build rhythm. Bass that locks into the guitar and percussion, providing a great bridge. Groovy and snappy percussion keeping the structure strong and smooth. Vocals that range from a shrieking scream to a floating, dreamlike and emotive stretch of sorts. Heaviness begetting beauty. A whole bunch of stuff that Deftones touch on that help make a Deftones album a Deftones album.

What’s really nice about Ohms is the greater presence of synth. Usually Deftones the synth sits somewhere either behind everything or somewhere in the middle. Sometimes its more prominent, but it mostly serves in a passive role. You may not always notice it, but you’d notice it if it wasn’t there. On Ohms synth is much more present, though still in similar capacity as on prior albums. Often it fills space with something ambient and helps set and define mood well; sometimes it adds a slight touch added to the top of a note, almost as though it’s a quick poke. Occasionally it sounds like the synth rides the music to wherever it leads. Regardless, it effectively brings out definition and texture well by widening the songs that little bit more through a more active-sounding role.

As expected, Deftones put in a good deal of work into this album. Both “Ceremony” and “Urantia” sees the band driving on forward in a highly rhythmic capacity. “Ceremony” plays with building sound; “Urantia” with jagged, aggressive riffing in a non-aggressive framework, but both feel like the band really pushing rhythmic flow above all.

“Error” sees Deftones shift gear into something more… bouncy. Chino floats over a more harsh-sounding riff, but of course the song changes around a bit and there’s the dreamy stuff in there that Deftones can’t get enough of. Things become overtly melodic in the choruses and the song ends with something that feels “cathartic” that, whilst appreciated, can feel like it drags a little too long.

“The Spell of Mathematics” is much more dark and brooding in comparison; at least, in terms of sound. The rhythmic chug is low, heavy, “slow” and menacing; Vocals sit somewhere above it all mostly stay harsh and pointed. In the less full-on sections the atmosphere from what came before lingers on, keeping the mood consistent. Everything’s a bit “lighter” and the vocals soften, but it feels no less weighted. The song ends (after a few returns of a “reflection” of the opening riff) with what sounds like a finger snapping / clap combination that allows a sense of calmness to creep in as instruments slowly drop out, but once more things drag on a little too long. It’s not unwelcome, and at times you can sort of lose yourself in it, but a bit of brevity may have helped.

By this point Ohms has sounded quite straightforward; more so than usual for Deftones. “Pompeji” keeps going by playing with Deftones’ prettiness and heaviness. The quiet moments have an air of tension; the sudden shifts into overtly heavy groove bring forth a sense of violence. Then the choruses combine the two, creating an odd sense of reprieve. It’s kind of “off”, but the mood settles early on and remains reinforced to great effect. Toward the song’s end something more mournful in sound comes forth, as though it’s a scene overlooking a tragic aftermath. Here it works well as it feels earned rather than just added.

This leads into the opening pulsing synth and guitar scrape of “This Link is Dead” which is one of Ohms‘ strongest songs by far. The escalating guitar along with the screaming and snappy, deft and agile drumming creates this really harsh, intense energy. It’s full-on until chorus sections come in. Here the song becomes this sort of sludgy, groovy thing. Overall it’s a song that sort of sounds chaotic which belies just how linearly focused it is; it sounds like Deftones are wildly lashing out and purging, but focus and control keep things to the point.

A throbbing, stabbing bass drives most of “Radiant City” forward. Chino once again alternates between rough and dreamlike and once again there’s a strong focus on rhythm, though here it feels a bit more abstract. Choruses are incredibly melodic and anthemic and the song overall feels a bit more “romantic” in a sense. “Headless” also holds that sense of the anthemic, though it takes a “heavy lightness” approach and draws melody out to expand on atmosphere. It’s not necessarily doing anything amazing, but it plays itself out well enough due to its approach. Perhaps it would stand out better if most of both it and the album didn’t sound so flat.

Deftones’ music holds strong textural qualities and a strong implication of dynamics; Ohms is no different in that regard. However, when it comes to the released product, often the songs end up with parts that just sound really flattened; Ohms is no different in that regard.

Generally Deftones get past this issue as a lot of their effectiveness as a band comes from their sounding unified, their use of subtlety and emotion, as well as their ability to “experiment” whilst keeping the music from meandering. They’re one of the few bands able to blend heaviness and dreaminess to great effect whilst having their own sound. In turn their music reaches out and connects with people, and justifiably so. However, too often Ohms sounds lifeless to the point where it can become really tiring to hear. Some songs get past this, but not to the same extent as prior releases. They’re begging for more range so they can breathe and make an impact;, but rather than have that range they get a flatness that really fucks with the album.

One of the few tracks to get past the lack of range is the closing one, “Ohms”. Of all of Ohms‘ songs, this is perhaps the one that reveals itself the most over subsequent plays of the whole album. The quick descending guitar work creates this sort of oddly-chaotic feel that the rest of the Deftones have no issue in bolstering. Suddenly the song gives way to something more mid-paced, rhythmic, floating and determined. Chino allows his specifically vague words to really sink in as he delivers them with in this sort of “flowing” manner. The choruses add a bit more of a sense of realisation, but there’s still a sense of comfort and perhaps moving on; everyone rises up for each line, but only for a brief moment, preventing the song from lingering too much on itself.

After the second chorus the song rises up a few more times before returning to the opening riff which, in closing off the song, feels both climactic and cathartic. Deftones don’t sound constrained here; the lack of range still sucks, but they just push right past it with ease to create something quite moving. “Ohms” sounds melancholic and bitter, but also comforting. It sounds like a song expressing a sense of acknowledging a kind of darkness whilst choosing to not drown in it. It’s a solid closer, as well as a solid song.

When Ohms came out, I talked about it with a good friend of mine. As I’ve known this person for a while and as he was the one who introduced me to Deftones, I want to share a slightly truncated version of what he said about the album:

“I dig it. A lot. I’d say its more like their stuff / sound during Saturday Night Wrist/ Deftones. Bit more electronic experimentation and heavy riffs. Less melodic metal like that of Gore and Koi No Yokan. At times I’m not sure it knows what kind of album it wants to be but every re-listen helps solidify its uniqueness. I’d say the overall sound is more favourable to me than what Gore gave, but the specific tracks don’t hit as much as previous ones from Gore or Koi No Yokan. All in all I still really like it though, and am grateful for music by my fav band.”

I feel that what my friend said makes a lot of sense. There was something else about Terry Date and how he captures percussion, but what I want to focus on here is the sound and how the tracks hit.

Compared to Gore, and perhaps the rest of Deftones’ discography, Ohms feels quite streamlined. The band still “experiments” a bit, but it sounds more like the band narrowing itself. The album is more instantly familiar with itself for it, but there’s little room for stuff that, whilst perhaps odd at first, makes more sense the more you listen to it. That’s fine and Deftones deliver the “go right ahead, no divergences” stuff quite well. However, here they sound more like they are comfortable more than confident in pushing outward. Whilst Ohms still works well – it sounds cohesive and flows well enough – it feels a little too fine with playing it safe.

I feel like saying that undermines Deftones’ efforts here as they still deliver. It’s great that the synth is more prominent in the mix. It’s also great that, to a slight extent, they de-emphasised guitar without diminishing its importance. Whilst the lack of range in the songs makes too much of it feel homogeneous and not really stand out, there is some really strong work on Ohms. It’s Deftones making tasteful music; something they’ve always done and something they’ll continue to do.

Some of Born of Osiris

As opposed to all, or one, or none.

It’s probably quite evident that, what with my regular sharing of gig photos of past gigs that I miss gig photography. Hopefully that will be something happening again as of some point within the next few weeks. Not entirely sure that it will be happening again just yet, but it might just, so I’ll see.

Anyway, here’s a photo of see title.
Also, two photos of one member of Born of Osiris are here and here.

Not the best I’ve taken. Not the best I took on this particular night either. Still, I like the shot. It feels dramatic and kind of theatrical.

As this photo was taken for Culture Eater, there is a gallery here and a review here.

This is my submission into the one hundred-and-twenty-fourth Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.

The theme for this one is “Now and Then“.

If I could get a shot of an empty stage where this was taken at the present time, I would. It would make for an interesting comparison, I think, though maybe that would be lazy.

Anyway, I miss shooting gigs, I miss going to gigs and I miss playing gigs. Those aren’t important at the moment, however.

I’m surviving as much as I was beforehand and I’m still trying to get out where I can. Still, looking for a new job, still co-running Culture Eater. I’m also still trying to sell my “art” and not succeeding, so other than being home a bit more often due to not traveling for work and gigs, not much has changed in my life. In that regard I’m really lucky.

I certainly have more disappointment in the general public at the current moment due to how many people are not wearing masks and not showing any care or caution in the current situation. That’s a change.

On a completely related note, I’ve links to places where my “art” can be purchased to the side of this post. If you’re not interested in purchasing any of it, then at the very least please share.

The challenge is hosted by four people and cycles weekly:

Week 1 – Patti

Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya

Week 3 – Amy

Week 4 – Tina

This week’s challenge is curated by Amy. Next week Tina is curating.

The challenges are pretty fun and there’s a lot of room for interpretation that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment. If you’re into photography, then I suggest participating, or at the least checking out what other people are submitting.

I hope you enjoy.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 813: A Lazy Day

Once more I am writing about writing and once more I find myself struggling to do so, as this is the final stretch and we are rounding the corner of my complete and utter disregard for writing a story that goes somewhere. It has all gone nowhere and somehow I am fine with that, but of course we will have to see as to how it all pans out  by this evening. I may stop writing for the rest of the day after this. I am not entirely certain. There are things to do, even though it is my day off. It never ends, so I shall keep on sweating whilst I sweat over the things that I am attempting to write. It is a lascivious  lifestyle, let me tell you.

Anyway, it is rather warm in here at the moment and I think part of that is due to clouds trapping in the heat. Supposedly it will son thunderstorm and it makes me think about the rain and being inside whilst it rains. I don’t necessarily want to write about that, but that is what is coming forward and so that is what will come out of my writing today. Yes, it is a slow day. I should have started a bit earlier, but I’ve been lazy, so here I am now and that is okay. It could be worse. It could be better, but it could be worse.

Still, I’d rather not be smelling the smell of my own sweat right now. I had a shower earlier, don’t want to feel like having another one so soon, or so presently. Such is the way of things I guess. Could be raining outside right now though, and that would make me think more about the rain than I perhaps I would like, but sometimes that is the way that things go. It’s not a bad thing to think about the rain, admittedly.

Maybe it is if you’re overly fixated on it for no discernible reason, but maybe that too is not a bad thing. I don’t know if it is or is not, but what I do know is that right now I am okay with my room of bed being warmer than I would like as somehow it is galvanising me into action.

Well, that is what I am telling myself. I don’t actually know if that is indeed the case. Maybe it is my own desire to do things that is making me do them. Maybe I can blame myself for this one. If I can, well, I guess then I can blame myself for my writing of things that don’t seem to matter or make any sense to write down, unless they do make sense, in which case, here you go. It all makes sense as I said so and somehow this will be the work of a genius, for the genius is just so inherent in the writing.

Well, it’s time to leave fantasy land.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 04:46:94

If there is one thing that NaNoWriMo has helped me with this year (other than other things I’ve stated in prior inane writings), it is my writing speed. Seems to be getting a fair bit faster over the past few weeks.

Anyway, this bit of writing is rubbish.

A Poem About Questions and Answers… I Think

Not sure what I was going for here.
I do like the imagery that comes forth as it is rather silly, but this also seems to provide nothing outside of base imagery.

I hope you enjoy.

Shuffle in, shuffle out
There are questions that need asking
Though only in whispered tones
For the quiet needs to be kept

The group follows softly
Gentle are their touching the floor
And in hushed silences
They do not have answers

A strong desire to be raucous
And answer irreverently
Creeps through the small group
Though they fight the urge to do so

Though without any answers
They can think to provide
They request one to be provided
As they keep on moving with care

Eventually the silence is cut
And the words expected are said
A collective sigh of relief
Sounds out without a sound

Anamanaguchi: Helix Nebula

I heard “Helix Nebula” a while ago and managed to get my hands on it. Only isten to it on occasion as it’s a song that I forget about then remember and play again.

Well, that is until the last few months when I finally bought the EP it is on which I’ve played a bit since purchasing.

This below was written during one complete play of the song. I think that perhaps I should have gone with multiple rather than one as, whilst the song is brief (or at least feels brief) and rather simple sounding, I could probably say a bit more whilst remaining off the cuff.

I think at the very least I’ve describe some of the song in a really rough manner.

“Helix Nebula” is from Anamanaguchi’s Power Supply.

I hope you enjoy.

Oscillating synth sound as synth sound fades in in the background as ambience. Slight build, stop then a sudden explosion of something more celebratory. Feels like a rocking out.

Painting a scene of joy and flowing fast and movement, though not quite of movement. What feels like a solo is not. It’s a rocking out. Sudden stop and then a quick percussion with lower sounds, then it pumps up again, though following this new melody… sort of.

Brief passage, full sound, then back to the previous celebration. Just joyous and fun, following blippy sounds toward something, then to something a bit less rising and more harmonious, sort of. A quick playing around with what is going on and the sounds continuous the joyous journey and drive for a few moments.

Then we return to the main celebratory passage which rises to a different level to continue. A note draws out a bit, then a pleasant, fun “cheering” continues for a brief moment before it all suddenly stops.

Five-Hundred Word Challenge 812: Decadence in Tressels

Dragging myself over this dotted landscape of harshness and brutality. The sky is hard and the setting sun is vivid, but a silhouette of myself is all the remains as a reminder that not all remnants get to see their days out in freedom.

Instead I just drag myself along on my two feet up upon the hill and it is all dry and starless and somehow I have to keep on going as though there is no choice in the matter. Perhaps there once was choice and now there is little else other than obligation.

Hoping the night comes sooner rather than later. It is as though the sun is staring at me, unblinking and unflinching. It is though the sun would continue to stare where it not for the fact that the earth rotates and as such the sun can only stare at my for so long. Getting behind the incline won’t help, as the sun will still be there, waiting, waiting until I need to rise up once more.

Once the night comes I can rest, but still I must carry the weight of expectation upon myself and continue to walk. It will provide a reprieve, though only a small one. Still, it is one most desired and most appreciated, for one can only walk for so long, expecting some sort of change in circumstances, yet still losing themselves along the path they think they follow.

Were it not for the decadence in tressels, perhaps there would be no walk at the moment. Perhaps there would be no journey where I had to cast myself beyond and away from myself. Perhaps there still would be thirst considered an inconvenience rather than as a constant.

I look not toward the sun, but toward where it casts its light against the face of what I walk along and see how its colours create a forceful imprint, irresistible, for only the sun decides when it will relent.

The land is quiet and still and I am very much a temporary visitor, looking to find my way out and continue on in the hopes that I may find some sort of chance to finally relax and return to what I once knew, but the longer I spend walking, the more I seem to forget myself. Even if I were to return, would it still be the same? Could I argue that this traveling would be one that I could cast aside? Would I be able to be comfortable with what I once had?

All questions I want to ask but don’t want to answer. Little changes but the scenery, and despite my desire to become once more more than my own husk, I have little choice other than to reside in it and keep on moving forward, or at least attempt to, for the idea of moving forward seems so distant these ideas. The scenery changes, but the sun remains harsh and all that I do is keep on walking forward.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 08:37:39

There’s kind of a personal history behind the phrase “decadence in tressels”, but it’s a rather uninteresting one.

Whilst writing this the phrase popped back into my head after not having thought about it in a rather long time, which was nice.

With this I think I was going more for mood than I was imagery. Not sure.
I like the ideas in the writing, but I feel that it’s overly dramatic and really messy.

A Pocket of The Hawkesbury River

Some of The Hawkesbury River on an overcast day.
I feel like this particular part looks rather enclosed, which it is not. Despite appearances, this is not enclosed at the far end.

I like the peace of this photo, as well as the “smallness” of it. Just kind of quiet and scenic.

Nothing amazing, nothing bad; sort of in a middle ground.

I hope you enjoy.

Stretched Writing

This was kind of my attempt to add to my NaNoWriMo rambling this morning.

Went elsewhere. Kind of an exploratory thing, kind of empty waffle.

I hope you enjoy.

Sitting here, doing that thing that I usually do. Going to try and avoid repetition as much as I can, but to be honest we already know how this will likely turn out. I’ll see what I can do, but no promises.

Anyway, I’ve already started and I don’t know as to what I’m going to cover this morning. I think that all of the writing that I’ve been doing this month has left me bereft of things more so than usual, which may or may not be a problem. It gets the junk out of the way, but right now I’m just struggling. Maybe I need a rest. Maybe I need to recharge. There are probably a lot of things that I need at this point, but my stubbornness demands that I persists. There is no stopping. I must continue with the going forward into territory that I know not about in the hopes that I get through in one piece on the other side. Whether this does happen or not is another story entirely, but I have to keep pretending to try. If I don’t, then how am I to continue on with whatever it is that I am doing?

Well, now that I’ve said that, I guess now the struggle really sets in. You see, I’ve been struggling for a bit and now I’m struggling some more. I keep on pushing on but now I’ve run out of things to say this early on in the writing, so the topic has now become about my running out of things to say so early on. I think this might just be a bit of a problem that is piling on top of all of the other problems and so now I just sit here and twiddle my thumbs, though in my kind in the hopes that something comes up and I can just keep on going on and get on with all of it. I’m tired. I want more sleep. should not have gone to bed so late. Maybe that’s the true cause of all of this.

Maybe it is not and I’m just deceiving myself once more. Maybe it is truly time to admit once more that I’ve taken on more than I should. Sure, I’m not melting down, but that does not mean that I’m doing alright with all of the excess writing. I guess it is the way that it goes and, as mentioned a little earlier, I’m just going to keep on going with the whole thing and hope for the best. There are less than ten days to go before the writing eases off, so that is a good thing. I’ll be able to relax sooner rather than later, I hope.

Maybe then a swarm of ideas will come flooding down the river of my mind and December will be the most creative that I have been in a while. Of course what I’m hoping for here is probably unlikely, but there is no telling as to what will happen. Need to keep an open mind about the whole thing. Need to stay steady and sturdy. If I close off now, then there is no telling as tow hat I will miss out on. Therefore, I shall not close off now and instead close off a little later so as to see what happens.

Now, the question becomes thus: How much later is later enough? There is no telling, of course, but perhaps we can divine some sort of inference based on the information at hand.

Now, in knowing that later comes “later”, which is to say at a future point in time that is not the current point in time, we know that at some point in the indeterminate future there will be a point where later will arrive, so long as I consider later to be a set point in time for this particular event rather than something that will keep on moving forward. Important information to consider.

Now, we need to consider as to what it is that we are waiting for, or in this instance what it is that I am waiting for. What I am waiting for is a sudden increase of ideas of which to build things off of in order to make my writing more interesting, or at least gripping, or something else entirely. This is indeed what I am waiting for, as though inspiration will just flow into me like the water that I drink when I drink water from a receptacle holding water. This is something else to consider.

What are the pressures? What is it that I feel is causing myself to run out of that proverbial steam? Perhaps it is NaNoWriMo. That is what I believe the main pressure to be in this instance. Adding so much more writing to my writing is causing me to struggle a bit. It can help with the writing as it cuts all the waffling out and makes me a little more focused, but perhaps it is not distilling things properly and there is a lot that is escaping outward due to my decision to participate once more in a thing that creates a lot of stress for myself.

How do I go about removing this pressure? I could stop now. That would probably be the smart thing to do. However, the thing with doing that is that it then means that I do not complete NaNoWriMo. It’s not about the sunk cost; it’s about wanting to complete what I start. There is little time left and I am rather ahead, so what I can do at this point, at least, is write a little less rather than a little more. That way it takes a bit of the pressure off and I still might just finish ahead. That would be a smart thing to do as that would give me a little bit more time to rest and relax and all those other things.

Now, will I do that? Probably not. Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment in that regard.

I also need to consider that perhaps the reason why ideas are not coming to me is that I am not looking for them. I have only explored a small subset of a small region and I can truly branch out from here, but instead of the ideas needing to come to me, I need to go and find them. I need to find out where those ideas are lurking and study them and then learn from them and then go from there in the hopes that it unlocks something and then I can write about that idea and take it to the proverbial bank and then write some more.

That all said, I do know that once I am done with NaNoWriMo, I will be relaxing a little more and perhaps that will mean that I can search for the ideas a little more efficiently and take it all from there.

I don’t know as to why I have written all of this. I know that once this month is over I will be able to explore things a bit more. I also know that perhaps I should not have undertaken the extra writing this month and I would have probably been fine. That said, there is a chance that things would be the same and I would be writing this all out anyway. That is a thing that happens sometimes and that is something that I cannot ignore.

Maybe I really should just stop writing for a little while. that too is a good idea. However, that certainly is something that I do not want to do as I do really enjoy the art of writing and that is something that I don’t want to stop. I just need to keep on digging out of my hole. However, in this case I feel as though I’ve dug myself a cavern and I’m firmly entrenched in it now. That might also be an issue.

Well, I think that now that I’ve said all of that I need to think of other things to say, but right now I don’t have anything. I’m tired and I’m lazy and I start work soon and that unfortunately requires more of my time this morning. I don’t have much of a say in that, but at least it will give me a time to listen to music and take care of other things, or something.

Well, taking care of other things just means taking care of work, so really, I’m not doing much of anything and that may be a problem, but seeing as I get paid for it I guess it’s alright. Could be worse and all that other stuff.

Hoping for a relaxed day. Don’t know if it will be relaxed, but that is what I hope for and I can keep on hoping. Maybe it will be busy and go by quickly. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just need energy at the end of the day so I can keep on doing other things that I need to take care of. The day doesn’t end with work but instead it just transitions to something else where I keep on working. That’s kind of okay.

Alright, I think I’ve said enough for now, so I’m just going to stop with the writing now. There isn’t much time left and I don’t know as to what else I can say that I haven’t already said. Well, there are plenty of things that I can say, but right now I don’t think I have the ability to give them what they require in order to truly flourish, so yeah.

Or maybe I can give them what they need to flourish, but that would require a bit of gardening and so I don’t feel like doing that right now as a few minutes to sow some things and then water and fertilise them is not enough time to get it done properly and so I really should just stop and get on with it, as now this is all more pointless than usual, so I’ll worry about the other stuff a bit later.

Some Development

A view I saw and subsequently took a photo of whilst walking from Cowan to Brooklyn.

This feels both like an open and closed scene.
Open due to the amount of space in the shot and closed due to the pockets of development being constrained in space.

I like that there’s more bush than there is development here. Sure, some of that development is necessary, but it seems to be mostly minimised. As such, you get to appreciate the area as it is more than you think about it as it was.

I hope you enjoy.
